Ashford OrientalPosted on 28 March 2013
I went here midweek with the Menupages deal and have to say the value and quality was fantastic. The staff were lovely and helpful, and the food was amazing. We had tangy ribs and wontons to start, and the shredded chicken (very much like a street snack) and Beijing beef for main, with beansprouts. An ample glass of wine and the prettiest orange sorbet I have ever seen!
No restrictions on the deal made a nice change to many restaurants. The only negative was that the freezing weather conditions made it very cold inside too and the handful of brave people were scattered throughout the room. We will definitely be back.

Oliveto RestaurantPosted on 11 March 2013
I went here with my boyfriend as it recently became his local. We had drinks at the bar while waiting for a table because there was a play on in the hotel. The staff were brilliant and sorted a table out. Really lovely warm atmosphere. Best Bruschetta I think I have ever had. We both opted for pizzas, lovely thin crust from their visible pizza oven. I had the Oliveto which was mozzarella, olives, rocket, plum tomatoes and parmesan. I polished the whole thing off. Highly recommended.

OdessaPosted on 18 July 2012
I took my mother here for a meal deal, which made the value good. There were no restrictions on the menu, which was also good. I had the pulled pork sandwich, which came with a nice bean salsa. It was delicious. My mother had the chicken quesadilla which also didn't disappoint. We ordered chips too, each chip being the size of a potato, and although they too were perfect, we were defeated by the amount. The desserts weren't great, but not bad either. The only small let down was slow service and slightly erratic seating. But overall, a good meal.

Jewel in the Crown (South William Street)Posted on 18 July 2012
Ate here for lunch off the value menu and was pleasantly surprised. A lovely veg samosa, followed by a really delicious Chicken Karai. Just spicy enough, the flavours were great, and the chicken was really tender. Followed this by a huge mango lassi! Value is really good and I would recommend to everyone.

The Club BarPosted on 12 April 2012
I used to eat here all the time, but the quality started going up and down, so I waited awhile before trying again. I personally wasn't disappointed, having the scampi, with lovely chips and side salad. Also excellent was the chicken in a blue cheese sauce. The two boys ordered rib eye steaks, which both found to be on the tough side. The staff were excellent and very accommodating. It was quite quiet for a friday night, but pleasant. I will definitely go again.

Hunters HotelPosted on 09 April 2012
I have always loved Hunters, and brought my mother here for mother's day. I'm giving it a perfect score, because it was by far the best meal and the loveliest restaurant experience this year. We had a beautiful table in the main dining room by the window, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We both had the pate to start, and the sole and lamb for mains. The accompanying veg was amazing, with a fantastic carrot and parsnip bake. Coffee and dessert in the lounge and a walk in the gardens finished off a gorgeous spring day. A true gem, and I encourage everyone to take a day out there.

Spice of IndiaPosted on 19 January 2012
Came here for a quick bite to eat with my other half. We just missed the early bird, so stuck to main courses only. The staff here are so nice, and make you feel very welcome. I had a lamb dhansak, which was just right, and the lamb was super tender, their naan bread in particular is excellent, very light and flavourful. I will definitely be back. The standard menu is of average value, but the choice and food are very good.

Pyg RestaurantPosted on 30 December 2011
It's a tradition for my mother and I to eat here for lunch on our Christmas shopping day in Dublin city. This is the restaurant in the Powerscourt Townhouse, rather than the bar itself. We initially moved tables three times because it was was so cold, but the staff were very accommodating. We each had a lovely panini, one with chipotle and chicken, the other with mozzarella, and pesto. We usually get their skinny fries, but they had run out, so we had the slightly too chunkiest chips I had ever seen! The experience wasn't quite as relaxing as we had hoped, but the food was very good.

UkiyoPosted on 13 December 2011
Was treated to a birthday lunch here and wasn't disappointed. It had been years since I had eaten here. I had the miso soup and the bento box, which consisted, among other things, of a refreshing melon, mint and cucumber salad, as well as spicy tofu and mushrooms and bok choi with black pudding! The meal was just right, filling, warm and tasty. The staff here are lovely and the room is airy and great to watch the street from. Would recommend for somewhere a little different.

Chatham BrasseriePosted on 27 November 2011
I had lunch here with a group of friends recently and while previously loved this restaurant, am now a little let down. I had the calamari and whitebait to start which was plenty and very good, but my friend ordered the chorizo kebab and when it came it was so small and lost on the plate it looked comical. I had the trout for mains which was good if a little bland. My main criticism was the service. Our waitress took the bread despite being asked to leave it, and tried to clear away people's plates as soon as they were finished, regardless of the fact that others were still eating. I had to finally say something when she tried to take someone's plate when they had only turned away for a moment to speak to someone! Value was average, and the meal ended up being not particularly relaxed.

Kathmandu Nepalese RestaurantPosted on 21 November 2011
Having had the best takeaway ever a few weeks ago, I decided to eat here for my birthday with my partner. I can't praise this place enough. The food is absolutely to die for, and the poppadoms are the best I have ever tasted. If you like hot food, the Sherpa Chili Kukhura is wonderful. The place was bustling, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. We went for the early bird which gives you more than enough food at really good value!

Bella Cuba RestaurantPosted on 17 November 2011
My boyfriend took me here with the Menupages deal. We were initially disappointed by the tasting platter arrangement. The service wasn't great, very inefficient. However, to be fair, we found the food excellent, especially the chimichurri steak and the yucca fingers. It's a little risky to have the platters, as you could easily get things you don't like. Some choice would have been better. Value was good for what you got. We did enjoy it, but wouldn't go for that kind of deal again.

The Port HousePosted on 17 October 2011
I have eaten here quite a few times now, and find it very hard to fault anything. My colleague and I shared four tapas plates: asparagus with garlic mayo, prawn pil pil skewers, jamon croquettes and crostini with manchego cheese. We also had a bottle of beautiful Portuguese wine. Everything was delicious, and it was lovely and cosy and warm. We sat downstairs in the cave area, fully lit be candlelight. This is a place for anyone.

Bits and PizzasPosted on 21 September 2011
Went here as a mini celebration with my other half, and weren't disappointed. I used to eat her quite frequently, so it was nice to see it hadn't changed. the staff were efficient and friendly, and the atmosphere bustling. We shared the chicken wings to start, and both had Americana pizza for mains, as we're both fans of the Jalapenos. We also enjoyed a lovely bottle of Sangiovese. A great reliable restaurant!

Milano (Dun Laoghaire)Posted on 28 June 2011
I used to lvoe Milano's and was looking forward to trying the new Dun Laoghaire branch. Unfortunately, I was let down. The restaurant was relatively busy, but all the doors were open, making it cold and windy. I ordered the four seasons pizza which was adequate, but not nearly as good as it used to be. For dessert, I decided to try the Dolcetti, which is a nice idea, and chose the Caffe Gelato, which claimed to be "coffee gelato with a chocolate straw and a coffee bean". I received a half melted ball of coffee ice-cream with neither straw nor bean. I thought this showed a lack of effort, as it's the little things that count. Service was quite slow, and I won't be hurrying back.

Ouzos Bar and GrillPosted on 04 April 2011
I took my mother here for Mother's Day with our respective partners. They offered a set menu at €29.95 for three courses, which I thought was average value. The place was nicely packed, with a nice buzz, although the acoustics make it a little noisy. The food was top notch. I had the liver parfait and the cod, with apple and cinnamon crumble for dessert. The boys opted for the fish and chips. We all concurred that it was one of the best meals we had eaten in ages. The staff were super accomodating and friendly. Top notch!

FXB MonkstownPosted on 01 April 2011
I went here for lunch with a work colleague for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised at the room, warm and casual, achieving a cross between a pub and restaurant "feel". I was attended to immediately, and found the service throughout to be excellent. I chose from their "Grazing" menu; spiced beef on brown bread with a tomato relish and side salad. It was all very tasty. The beef was lean and flavourful, and the salad had lots of nits bits in it, like carrots and seeds. The value was quite good, and the portions generous. I would definitely recommened this eatery.

Harrys Cafe BarPosted on 15 March 2011
Went here for lunch at 1. Harry's is always busy, but managed to get a table quickly. I had the soup and sandwich deal. Soup of the day was a delicious chunky, spicy tomato and brown bread. The bread wasn't standard, but rather a very nice french style brown. This accompanised with a goat's cheese tortilla, done just right, nestled beside a small side salad. The service is always excellent, and there's a lovely buzz about the room. Going home, I couldn't resist getting one of their to die for raspberry scones.

Il Fico Sicilian CaféPosted on 10 March 2011
This is a new restaurant beside old favourites.
I availed of the 3 course for €12.95, which was brilliant value.
I had chicken wings to start which were perfectly cooked. Pizza with chicken and chili for main, lovely crispy thin base. Tiramisu for dessert which I didn't eat, but it seemed to go down well as my dinner partner inhaled both his and mine. Staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, with a good sense of craic. The only downer was the fact that a few beers brought the price up by twenty euros, but that's standard. Thumbs up all around!

Giddy Goose CafePosted on 06 March 2011
I was very surprised to see the low rating from other reviewers on this. Maybe I've just been lucky but every time I've eaten here I enjoyed it. I had a work lunch with colleagues a few days ago and had the Giddy Goose Club, which was delicious. Nicely toasted bread, metled cheese, chicken and plently of perfectly cooked bacon, with their signature relish as well. It was very busy, but the staff were friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is always bustling, and the room is pleasant and bright. Value is average. I have also had breakfast here in the past many time and have never had any complaints.

Mao Restaurant (Dun Laoghaire)Posted on 31 January 2011
I love Mao's and have yet to be disappointed. I had the pumkin spring rolls to start which I love, with the plum sauce. For mains I went for the chili lime beef, which is just divine. The beef was tender and the noodles just the right consistency. Both myself and my partner had Tiger beers. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They close really early on a sunday night, so the atmosphere was too quiet. Value is average, but the portions are always pretty substantial. A very handy, excellent little restaurant.

Chai Yo TeppanyakiPosted on 20 January 2011
After discovering that Yo Thai in Donnybrook was gone/moved, I was consoled by going to Chai Yo, the sister restaurant.
We sat at the Teppenyaki table for the experience and had great fun watching the chef do his magic. The food was delicious: a combo plate of chicken, salmon and beef, wih egg fried rice and vegetables. The flavours were equally wonderful, some spicy, some sweet and sour.
No real criticism, except that I wouldn't continue going to the teppenyaki table, I would book a normal table upstairs. Same food, just without the drama! Atmosphere was great, very lively. Thumbs up for sure.

The Real Gourmet Burger - Dun LaoghairePosted on 05 January 2011
Unlike the other Real Gourmet Burgers, this location is still very much in existence and going strong. I ate here with my other half after the cinema on a sunday after having a burger craving. I had the cheeseburger, with garlic mayo and red onion. We also got their lovely rosemary fries. The burger was delicious, perfectly cooked and tasty. You must not be afraid of getting your hands dirty here, the burgers are very tall! It was a little quiet, but then it was mid snows and late-ish on a sunday. I look forward to going back again!

Siam Thai (Andrews Street)Posted on 31 December 2010
Had been meaning to go here for ages and wasn't disappointed. Started with the chicken satay which was one of the crunchiest I have ever had, but still very good. For main course I had the chillies and thai herbs with chicken. I found this absolutely delicious. The only slight complaint is that they were a little heavy on the lemongrass, which made a few mouthfuls overwhelming. Service was excellent, fast and accomodating. The wine list is also excellent. Great central location, I give it a thumbs up! It was the fully dinner menu so value was average, but there are also early bird specials.

The Queens BarPosted on 13 December 2010
Usually go here quite a bit with my other half, but hadn't been for ages. I had the wings, and he had a burger. I love their wings, just the right amount of spices and sauce, nice blue cheese dip. And you get loads of wings! Also comes with finger bowl to keep you clean. The burger was well done and meaty, and the chips were perfectly cooked. Glad we came back... it's a nice place for a pint and a meal. Value for money is pretty average, and service can sometimes be a bit slow... only two drawbacks.

El Bahia Moroccan RestaurantPosted on 05 December 2010
I've been here many times, as you can usually rely on getting a table and enjoying good food. This time however, I felt it has slipped a little in terms of food quality. I had the friend aubergine to start with pitta, which was delicious. The entire party had tagines, mostly chicken. I had Essaouira tagine, and found it too salty and a bit bland in other flavours. Also, it tasted too similar to the other chicken tagine. Service wasn't great, lack of customer "feel good" factor. Value was excellent. I would still go back.

Thai HousePosted on 30 November 2010
This is probably my favourite local restaurant. The food is always perfect, and the service impeccable. They will always do their very best to accomodate you. I have the chicken satay to start, which I find perfect. For mains I love either the jungle curry or the mixed red curry, and I know the thai green curry here is also excellent.
They always offer a value menu and wine specials as well, so you really can't go wrong.

The Dining RoomPosted on 25 November 2010
I brought my mother here for her birthday, and we had the value €25 menu on it's last day! I can safely say it was the best meal I have ever had in Dublin. The restaurant and atmosphere are enchanting, the staff and service were excellent, and the food was to die for. The main course of quail with gnocci was simply out of this world. I wish I could go every week!
