Little Caesars (Harcourt Street)

Little Caesars (Harcourt Street)

Posted on 29 April 2012
Firstly I would like to point out that it's pretty rare that all items on the menu are reduced to €6.99 until 5pm. Definitely a great selling point! Went for lunch with a friend here recently as hadn't been in a few years. She ordered the goat's cheese salad which was all but average. a generous portion of goat's cheese which was delicious but salad consisted of a few chunks of onion, a measly scattering of walnuts and a sickly sweet honey dressing. Her €3, generous glass of house white helped wash it down, however.I got the chicken in mushroom and white wine sauce and chose chips to dunk in the sauce. The portion was really decent and the sauce was tasty but the chips were of the 'iv been under a hot lamp my entire chip-life' kind. Not so great. We left full and thankfully didn't spend an arm and a leg but i'm not sure we would have been so forgiving otherwise!

Gourmet Burger Kitchen - GBK (South William Street)

Gourmet Burger Kitchen - GBK (South William Street)

I return time and time again to GBK and am never dissatisfied. Great selection of burgers with really fresh and delicious toppings. I must say I tend to always go for the same blue cheese burger as it is just scrumptious. I have tried the falafel, Cajun and avocado and have never been disappointed. Also the onion rings are sooooo good especially with the slightly lemony garlic sauce!! Would sell my soul for the recipe!! GBK manages to find that perfect balance between fast food and gourmet- great if you're in a rush and unwilling to spend a fortune yet always delivers on quality and service. There's also the great deal of a choice of classic, falafel or chicken burger with fries and drink for a reasonable €10. Not bad I say!

Queen of Tarts

This is a really quaint and snug cafe across from the City Hall and Castle. I had a delicious apple pie with plenty of filling and lots of cinnamon and a hot chocolate which was perfectly rich and creamy. Perfect treat on a cold dreary day. I will say, however, that I paid a hefty €8 euro for the privilege! Also, it was quite difficult to find a spot to sit. I noticed a lot of people coming in and then leaving as there was no room. Everything looked delicious but I think it's the kind of place for treats only as the prices are a bit much for cake and a hot choc. Still worth a visit though :)

Manifesto

After some drinks at Copan, down the road, the munchies got the better of us and we went on the hunt for something decent! Enter Manifesto! The place was packed ...on a wednesday night.... in prime recession time. Must be good! We waited for ten minutes and it was worth the 10 min wait, really delicious and fresh starters (the aubergines+tomato+mozzarella was scrumptious, but be warned... A whole 12" pizza will follow and it's so delicious you will not want to leave a piece resulting in absolute and utter food coma ( of the best kind!) Price wise not the cheapest but worth it for the freshness and quality of the food. Oh, and we got a doggy bag so more treats for later!! Great atmosphere, delicious food. Yes , I will be back!

Rotana Cafe Restaurant

I went there for lunch one day and really enjoyed the meal.the lunch special is particularly good at 10.9- for two courses. Nice portions too!! Hummus and pitta to start which was tasty-nothing too extravagant but nice nonetheless. I had the chicken and doner kebab in lebanese bread for my main which was delicious!!! I was absolutely stuffed afterwards too! The garlic Sauce was particularly tasty! The staff here are so friendly which really is reason enough to return not to mention it's bring your own booze and they provide hooka pipes! Who could say no? However, be wary of big groups before you decide to have a quiet dinner! Nice little place with good food and service. Is quite pricey though, so lunch is maybe the best option! Definitely worth a visit!

Kafka (Dublin)

Kafka (Dublin)

Posted on 26 April 2012
I went here last nite and when we asked how long it would be for a table the waitress shook her head and simply said " i don't know." Rather unhelpful don't you think?!! When we did get a a table we found it to be very cute with little candles everywhere. Staff were friendly and professional. I had the calamari to start which took forever to be served and was very dried out. I then had the bacon and cheese burger which was nice but nothing to write home about. In times when there are such amazing speciality burger restaurants, there is a lot to live up to. Sadly Kafka's burger did not. My friend had the rather huge (no complaints) brushetta which was delicious, then a pesto pasta with potatoes and olives.Quite frankly, we were shocked that the olives were not pitted. Nobody wants a broken tooth with their main course! It was also absolutely swimming in pesto which was very sickening. I had heard great reviews of Kafka but was quite let down and to be quite honest, with a rather hefty bill, I find it quite baffling that it is so popular.

Bijou Bistro

Bijou Bistro

Wanted somewhere special to have a nice bunch and couldn't have picked a better place. The service was fantastic and felt like a really special place. I got the Eggs Benedict which were perfectly cooked and my boyfriend got waffles with bacon and maple syrup. The food was really delicious and everything was perfectly presented. The prices were quite steep which was unfortunate as it would put me off going again except, maybe, on a special occasion. In these times I think Bijou could afford to drop their prices a little.

Time after time I find myself going here as I find it hard to beat! Even as a struggling student a few years ago, this was my special treat( if a bit on the steep side). Now however, the prices have dropped but, wait for it.. the standards have not!! My boyfriend and I go nearly every weekend and get the veggie club sandwich with fries and a drink for €10..... between us!Now is where I add that you should see this sandwich before you call us stingy!! It's a monster of a sandwich. Also, I am not a veggie and would usually pick a non vegetarian sandwich but this is superb! The staff are always so lovely, the atmosphere is very chilled out and the food is delicious!! Would recommend this to everyone and anyone!!

Seagrass of Portobello Bridge

Seagrass of Portobello Bridge

I love love love love this place!! did I mention love! ''Thank you Seagrass for your fabulous early bird menu that allows us to have a three course meal of the most delicious food for a very reasonable €21. Change this and I may not love you so much!!! '' The last time I went here I ordered the paté with my very own little sour dough loaf (adorable), followed by the Pork belly (heavenly), and just about finished off with a Cointreau and chocolate pot (waddled home ). My boyfriend had the goat's cheese starter( light as a cloud!), salmon (was slightly jealous) and the crumble (yum yum). Needless to say, we were happy as Larry. In fact, we were happier! This place is a gem of a restaurant. A la carte is quite expensive but the Early Bird is the best!

I love the atmosphere in this place as it has got quite cozy seating and there's an outdoor area should you need a cigarette! lovely coffees and decent cakes (€4 for both is a great deal!). Food, however, could definitely do with a revamp. It's quite a limited menu and i got the vegetarian panini which , to be honest, was pretty gross (huge chunks of red onion, under-cooked panini and too much relish). My boyfriend got the BLT (basic enough-right?) . Pretty poor BLT! BUT , at the risk of sounding too negative, the staff are nice and the atmosphere good... coffee and cake kinda place :)

El Toro Bravo

El Toro Bravo

Posted on 21 April 2012
Went here this evening hoping for some really tasty dishes as is the nature of Tapas but was sorely disappointed. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was okay but the food left a lot to be desired. Stingy portions and quite bland food. We had the patatas bravas which consisted of some unseasoned potatoes and a tiny portion of what could have been shop bought tomato sauce. The chicken in herbs was more bone than chicken and we also got what resembled mashed tomato(minus any flavor) on toast. The calamari was actually quite nice though:) Really was optimistic about El Toro Bravo but, unfortunately, was very let down.
