Brasserie Le PontPosted on 14 June 2012
A brilliant little restaurant. Have been here a few times, the food is consistent and live music from 7 o clock on weekends is a huge plus. One thing I would say is that the service is a little unsettling - from an incredibly bubbly waitress serving us for most of the night, a waiter showing us the meats on the menu for the evening (which was a very nice touch) to another almost thumping the dishes on the table as they arrived, followed by a fake smile and running off! The value for money is also good and with a varied wine list I shall be returning soon!

The Cliff TownhousePosted on 14 June 2012
Contrary to the below reviews, had a beautiful meal here. The white washed dining room with the retro navy leather banquette seats give it a fantastic feel, but I felt the staff were all a bit obnoxious which brought down the atmosphere a bit. The early evening menu is fantastic value and the a la carte has an excellent selection though! I had the asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise to start - a simple dish but when done very well (which it was!) is absolutely flawless. The sea trout was cooked fabulously for mains and the seafood linguine it was served with mussels and crayfish was just as delicious. The desserts that we had and came out from the kitchen all looked beautiful and tasted wonderful, and the cocktails were really classy and liked the way they were all classics but with a twist. Can't wait to go back!

Absolutely love this place, have only been for lunch but would love to go for dinner! The raw menu can be a bit hit and miss according to your tastes but are certainly all an experience to try, the juices are all amazing and the glamburgers are an absolute must! Brilliant atmosphere and good service makes this place an absolute winner!

Dobbins RestaurantPosted on 14 June 2012
Really can't see what the fuss is about this place. Although in a strange location, the outside looks pleasant and the hostess was friendly, but when I was seated, the decor was tatty and the staff went from being friendly to a little standoffish. We decided to go for the early evening menu, which at e27.50 for 3 courses I found a little steep in this day in age - I had the crispy prawns for starters; they were nice, but not bursting with flavour or anything. I had the chicken for main which was edible, but also by no means special. The fondant potato was very dry and the presentation looked like something you would expect in a nursing home! My dining companions were equally as unimpressed as I was, we didnt stay for dessert and the bill came to e122 for 3 early bird menus and 2 glasses of wine! Was incredibly confused by how people rant and rave about the food and value here. I also felt completely ripped off and utmost definitely won't be returning.

China SichuanPosted on 14 October 2008
I was so looking forward to the china sichuan moving up to sandyford, and I was bitterly disappointed. Firstly, we arrived at 17.55 and it was raining. We attempted to open the door, but it was locked. I think it was the owner on the phone that saw us but rudely looked straight through us and never opened the door. So we waited 10 minutes for it to open. When we sat down, we found it a bit stupid that they made a new modern menu, but yet would do things that you would normally get. wouldn't it make more sense just to perfect what were used to? The menu has no descriptions. the staff member we dealt with was friendly. But when we got our meals, we were shocked! I ordered kung po chicken, which was very peppery and had no veg in it whatsoever. The tai chien chicken was ok, but a few mouthfuls left quite a kick at the back of your throat. The fried rice had no flavour, and the veg in the soft fried noodles totally clashed and were like fresh air. Funny how this place used to be the best Chinese you could get in Dublin, but i think that has changed looking at some of the other reviews!

The Counter DundrumPosted on 14 October 2008
I can't agree with these previous reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed the counter the night I went. The B.Y.O.B idea is innovative and a bit of fun. I did have one thing I could disagree with: the prices. 9.75 gets you the smallest burger, 4 toppings a cheese and a sauce. I think you are bullied into all of these and it's not fair that you aren't given a discount for what you exclude. all the same, the burger was tasty, the roasted garlic aioli was the best I ever had, and you get a LOT of fries. I'm definitely going again!!!

Seapoint in MonkstownPosted on 14 October 2008
I was impressed by this restaurant. The menu was diverse, service was friendly and it was good value. However: one problem - the vegetarian option. I got gnocchi with ratatouille. It came and I knew by looking at it it was out of a packet. The pasta was bland, as was the ratatouille and the sour cream sauce was horrible. Although, I did try the other companions salmon and hake and thought it was beautiful. So I'd reccomend, as long as your not going with a vegetarian.

Yamamori NoodlesPosted on 28 September 2008
Japanese foods is one of my favourites and was meaning to try this place for years. Was incredibly impressed. There's also the added bonus of being able to have sushi. All the food we got was magnificent, particularly the salmon and chicken teriyaki. We got 1 side, 1 salad, 3 mains, 3 pieces of Hashim, a bottle of water and a glass of wine all for 65 euro! I'll be definitely heading back soon

The Restaurant @ Marks and SpencerPosted on 25 August 2008
Ate in The restaurant and was very very impressed. There is so much to choose from in the menu and the set menu (a smaller selection of main courses, any dessert + glass of wine for 12.50) is very good value. I had the lasagne al forno, the nicest I ever had, my dining partner had the small prawn and avocado salad which was massive also. We had bread and water and bill came to under $25! The place was buzzing and had a contempory feel to it. I am definetly coming to the restaurant again very soon!

Patrick GuilbaudPosted on 15 August 2008
Went to Patrick Guilbaud for lunch and was very impressed. The dining room is nice, bright and airy, but the decor is quite bland, but nice. Although we arrived early, all eyes were on us and we felt quite uncomfortable with all the fuss. Also, having to crumb the table after every course was a bit much. I had soup to start, which was a little thin, but tasty. All of us had halibut for main course which was beautifully cooked in butter. Also, portion sizes were quite large so there was no need for dessert. We were given petite fours after the meal. It was quite reasonable, at $173 for 4 2 course lunches, a glass of wine and 2 bottles of water. Although I would warn people about this place's dinner prices - main courses range from 45-95 euros!

Hartley's RestaurantPosted on 09 August 2008
I went here when it had just opened, and I was highly impressed. I had the halibut which was lovely and the surroundings were great. However, I thought the staff were a little inexperienced. I wouldn't reccomend the burger after a further visit though - they stuffed it full of mustard seeds. If its a lovely night, the terrace is really nice overlooking the harbour. Overall after a few hiccups, this place has turned into a brilliant restaurant!

Wagamama (Cork)Posted on 24 July 2008
I am a regular of the branch in Dublin, but was bitterly disappointed about Cork. In Dublin, the staff are friendly and will do anything of the menu for you practically. In Cork, this was different. The waitress was rude, and wouldn't check the kitchen for anything, which in the end could have been done. The food wasn't as nice as Dublin's, and a few special orders which generally have no problems miraculously had them. If I'm back in Cork, regrettably, I will avoid it.

DylanPosted on 24 July 2008
Went here recently for a meal and was pleasantly surprised. The dining room is unusual and clean with massive chairs at the back of the room and a leather padded bar area! The staff were friendly and the menu was nice and varied. We didn't have starters, but got plenty of bread and a l'amouse bouche which was unexpected of apple and celery soup. We had the cod and sea bream, both of which were delicious, and I loved the unusual cutlery and delph! We didn't have desserts, but were brought over a massive plate of petit fours, which we couldn't finish! It was pricey, but well worth a try. I will certainly be coming back soon!

Shelby's BrasseriePosted on 14 April 2008
I didn’t think Shelby’s was much to rave about. The entrance felt like walking up a hotel corridor and the entrance wasn't very clearly identified. When I went in, I found the interior very cosy and appealing, but more attractive upstairs. There was plenty to choose from. The pork ribs were tasty, as was the chicken supreme. I didn’t particularly like the rosti however. I found it a bit too bland and boring - the menu was retro but very little was made to make it interesting. The staff were friendly and was adequate value for money.

Gordon Ramsay @ PowerscourtPosted on 15 February 2008
I have to say, I do not agree with some of these reports - I thought this place was great. I had the scallop starter and although we only got one scallop, there was enough on the plate. It was exqisite! I got the sea bass for main course, which I liked, but I tried the john dory and much more prefered it. We all got the carmalised apple tart tatin for main course, which was the nicest thing I ever had the pleasure of tasting. The amuse bouche, breads and pre-desserts were all just as wonderful - the parmesan bread is a must if you go!
I also stayed the night and was impressed with the breakfast. The oatmeal pancakes were divine and there was a wide selection available.
Overall, the food was superb. All of the staff were extremely pleasant, and although pricey, I would recommend you try this place at some stage.

This restaurant is nothing to brag about. I went there with two other people, and they weren't blown away by it. The food was nice, the suroundings were nice, but the atmosphere was awkward at 6:30 as we were the only people in the restaurant. The place was a bit pricey for what we got too. One thing they both shared in common infamously was the bad service. It took ages for our meal to come.

This place does fantastic food, and has become popular. Thank God for the refurbishment it needed badly, now gleaming with beauty with the original chairs from the old restaurant.
