Bon Appetit Brasserie

Bon Appetit Brasserie

Posted on 13 January 2013
It's a real pity. I hate getting the feeling of being ripped off and thats what you get when you go to Bon Appetit. At 60 Euro per head for their dinner menu I think that it is reasonable to expect some potatoes and veg to be served with the main course. Nope, this is all charged as extra. The food is good and very well presented. The service charge of 18 Euro added to my bill is excessive. I am always a good person to tip but when the choice is taken from you it leaves you with the feeling of "We will get every last cent from you". Tea and coffee is charged at 4 euro each. I think that I have said enough, only one more thing, We won't be back. I was not surprised that there were so many empty tables. Come on Bon Appetit get your act together and stop ripping valued customers off.

Bloom Brasserie

After 102 reviews it's time to say goodbye, My final review is our meal at Bloom Brasserie. The food was perfectly prepared with fresh ingredients. My duck starter was tasty but very small in size, and not worth 10 Euro, my girlfriends walnut salad was good and much better value. For mains the steak was decent and sea bass delicious served with a good portion of roast potato. The added cabbage and chorizo was too small a portion, the deserts were delicious particularly the home made ice cream and a very good coffee wrapped up a most enjoyable meal. Prices should be looked at. Thats it goodbye Menupages.!!!!

Noshington Cafe

Noshington Cafe

It takes a lot for me to complain in a restaurant, however I did just that when asked how my meal was. I pointed out that I was disappointed as there was a lot of inedible twigs(more like branches) in my salad. The manager sympathised and told me to mention it the next time that we were in and she would make amends. So on our next visit we were asked again by the same lady was everything ok, we agreed that it was, the food was a bit better this time around but no offer of a coffee or discount to make up for previous bad experience, although she was well aware of it. Also I would like if they installed some type of fly zapper as there seems to be a lot of flies around, and the cakes remain uncovered at the counter. Overall having visited Noshington on three occasions I feel that their customer service is lacking to put it mildly. I wont be going back.

Tiesan Cafe

Tiesan Cafe

A Cafe for a sunny day. !! We visited Tiesan today, The space inside is very limited and only seats about nine customers. There is plenty of room outside providing it is sunny. The menu is mainly sandwiches on focaccia bread. Well presented and tasty. The food here is expensive, eg the full breakfast is 11 Euro , and they follow the trend of other local restaurants by not including tea or coffee in the price. This in my book is a black mark against them. The service was fair but the whole place lacked atmosphere. A few smiles from the staff would go a long way. The boss had the special which was an omelette priced at 8:50. Nothing to write home about. Would we go back, em at a push.

Beautiful location, when the sun is shining, but the service is extremely slow. They desperately need to organise themselves. The prices are high, eg all cakes around 5 euro. The kitchen staff were not wearing gloves while preparing the food and watching one of them stuffing grated cheese into his mouth while making a sandwich for a paying customer was rather off putting to say the least. The jury is out on whether I would go back.

Pub grub at restaurant prices is what you get at Casey's. Portions are small and the food is considerably overpriced . A breast of chicken on mash is 18 Euro, A fillet of chicken burger at 16 euro is dearer than anything that I have paid in the centre of Dublin. I asked for the bill four times and eventually just went to the bar and paid. Overall a poor performance on Casey's behalf.

Nice location for a cafe, but thats where it ends. The food is very average and lacks any sort of imagination. The bagel special of pineapple and ham was very average indeed, a slice of processed packet ham on some pineapple, need I say any more. The side salad which accompanied it lacked taste, imagination and substance. The coffee was bland. It's a pity but my visit to The studio was like a journey back in time. It could be so much better.

Great wholesome food and very competent service. However the prices are at the limit of the upper end of the scale. It is always busy so they have no need to drop their prices, but coffee and a scone at six euro makes it a pricey place to drop into. I really enjoy going to Avoca but two lunches for thirty euro is expensive.

This really is a mixed bag. We liked the food although portions are on the small side. Starters of chowder ( too salty) and pasta were nice. Their bread was delicious but we had to ask for some. Main courses of steak and Cod were very tasty. we ordered a side portion of grilled veg which was very small. The deserts of sticky toffee pudding was the onlly dissapointment. The pudding was cold and only a small amount of toffee.... it should be smothered !!!. Service was very prompt, the background music is quite loud and really the wrong choice. Tthe staff were great. Used my hi - life diners card which saved me 30 Euro on the bill. Nice evening overall

The menu is quite varied and offers good choice. I had the homemade soup with is served with a small pan of hot brown bread. Delicious. The customers next to me were complimenting the scones as "the best that they ever had". You will do well getting a seat in Bibi's, not only is it popular it is really small. It is very tastefully decorated It seats about 12 persons with extra seating outside. The service is excellent, there were six staff on the day I visited. The food is delicious, fresh, and a little bit expensive for lunch. I had a salad plate comprising of three salads, roasted aubergine with yougert, sweetpeas with hazelnut dressing and pearl barley with wild mushroom. As you see not your ordinary salad. This was priced at 12:50, a little steep. When I added my two cups of coffee the total was 17:50. Steep for lunch. The flavors were delicious . It is a pity that the place is so small but I was glad to have chosen it. I will definatly go back.

"Top marks for food" but it really is a puzzle as to what the Ormond Wine bar is???.It seems to be a mish-mash of a few different styles, arty cafe, restaurant, games room, We decided to give it a try last night keeping in mind that it is newly opened. The table beside us had 12 people playing board games, Screaming kids included, there was some great music downstairs which was drowned out by the piped music.... you get the picture and this was at 9pm. The french onion soup was ok, but served with only a drizzle of cheese. My steak was delicious, however surprisingly when I asked for a steak knife I was told that they don't have any. Most surprising was when we ordered tea, a mug was put on the table with tea bag in it.... no they don't have tea pots. And Finally... the toilets are unisex. So there you have it, good food at good prices, the rest including the service is all over the place. From now on it will be strictly daytime dining.

Quite simply, Overpriced, lacking in atmosphere and staff that need training. There is no Lunch menu and prices at lunchtime are just too expensive for what you get. "Adequate at best" is how we found Pinocchio Cafe. I felt that I was sitting at a restaurant in Dublin Airport waiting for a Departure flight. The Lights are far too bright, no music, no candles, and flat screen TV's around the walls promoting their cookery courses. Oh sorry I forgot the tables are facing the kitchen, so you have a wonderful view. The Food is quite simply over priced for what you get. The starters go from 10 euro right up. The fillet steak which I ordered was cut to ribbons and served with a few roast potatoes. My girlfriends pasta dish was expensive and tasteless. The side salad which we ordered was an absolute disgrace, it was a small plate with lettuce , half a tomato and some onion with no dressing. They charge 4 euro for this. Desserts were about the best part of the meal, and with coffee the bill of 83 Euro was excessive. Pinnocchio is more suited to a lunch time trade. It is far from the best Italian in Dublin. I have eaten far better food for a lot less elsewhere.

Beckett's pride themselves on good food and they are good at it, however it must be said that you can get equally as good in many other places for a lot less. They are charging Dublin City Centre prices. Example their fillet steak dinner is 28 Euro and this is without veg and potato which are priced at 3:50 each. That brings up the price of your meal to 35 Euro for a main course. In these times this is simply far too expensive. I enjoyed my meal at Beckett' s and stayed the night in the hotel. First time here and was impressed. Good quality food and at a reasonable price. The service was good with glasses being regularly cleared from the table. Party of six all satisfied. They charged for a bottle of wine which we never got, however I reckon it was a simple mistake. Overall not a bad spot.

Chez Max (Baggot Street)

Chez Max (Baggot Street)

Posted on 14 December 2008
"If it's not broken then dont fix it". Thats obviously the thinking of the owners of Chez Max when opening up their new sister restaurant of the popular Chez Max of Palace Street. I have always been a fan of The Palace Street restaurant and this is no different. The decor is extremely similar, tables, chairs the exact same and that goes for the food as well. It is exactly the same as Palace street. There is one difference in that there is a lot more room in Lower Baggot Street and a good deal more comfortable. I am glad to see that they have kept their prices reasonable.I would have liked some changes in the menu, eg rabbit breast instead of leg. However thats only a small quibble. I expect to come back here again and again.

Having heard 'How Wonderful' this place was I decided to give it a try. First impressions were that the place was grey and dull with dreadful grey tables and chairs. The waitress who was friendly started to explain hoe we could 'build our own burger' by ticking off the boxes on the menu. I found this unnecessary, complicated and irritating.I ordered a chicken fillet burger off the main menu, and yes thats what I got.... a fillet of chicken in a basic bread bun, no salad or anything else with it.The bread bun was even a cheap one.My friends burger was slightly better, only slightly though. Overall I found this place to be another version of Eddie Rockets, but even they can do it better. Another one to strike off the list.

This restaurant could be so much better if they made a little more effort in some areas. The service is good, the food is nice but thats really about it. There is no atmosphere in the place. Food wise my girlfriend ordered The cod dinner, and thats what she got, no potatoes, or veg served with it and at 22 Euro we found it wanting,With so many restaurants closing down during this time, Fallon and Byrne will have to step it up a notch to remain in the Game. Overall a disappointment and I won't be going back.

Dropped in for lunch and was surprised to see how few were there. The decor is dated and the whole place should be revamped. The food was tasty but very over priced for what you get. A panini and chips for 12 Euro is not good value. Their coffee was nice but I certainly wont be going back in a hurry.

Well done to One Pico for grabbing this opportunity by the scruff of the neck. While every other business is moaning about pending recessions they introduce a set lunch menu of fine food for 20 Euro. We had delicious breads, confit of duck, hake and corn fed chicken and lots more. We have gone three times in the last two weeks and have enjoyed it every time. Lets hope that other restaurants follow their lead.

Il Vignardo

Posted on 21 September 2008
The only positive thing to come out of the evening was the food. We had intended to go elsewhere but because of the poor reviews on Menu Pages we decided on Il Vignardo. Well that was a mistake. This place is geared towards the Lunch time trade. There was no atmosphere and very few customers, and to be honest the decor with the imitation vineyard ceiling is appalling. A good plasterer is urgently required. The food was fresh, and tasty and service was good. However this was the first time when I handed back a dessert. Their 'Homemade' Tiramisu was dreadful. They serve it in a cup, enough said. Do yourself a favour and give this place a miss at evening time.

We tried The 12th Lock for Lunch today. It really is located in a beautiful setting. The waiting staff were very on the ball, we were asked three times in the first two minutes what we were having. The Chicken Cesar Salad and the Beef Wrap were very tasty and well presented. Value wise it could be a little bit better with most items on the menu priced at 15 Euro, which makes it a pricey lunch. Overall a fine place to dine

"As full as a butchers pup" is an old saying and that is exactly how I felt leaving Brownes Deli and Cafe last night. As restaurants go Brownes is very informal, but a very good Bistro all the same.If there was a little more effort put into the decor (eg Chez Max) ,then it would be a hard act to follow. The food here is top notch. We had the French onion soup and scallops to start, the Boeuf Bourguignon and Mussels for mains and sticky toffee pudding and very good Lattes to finish. All of the food we had was delicious. The Bill came to 75 Euro which I think is very good value. No doubt we will be back.

"Italian food as it should be" thats what you get when you eat at Il Primo. We were made very welcome right from our arrival. The service was excellent and very professional, and it was easy to see that the waiting staff were passionate about their food and had pride in their menu and restaurant. We had a quail dish and sirloin / salad for starters. For mains I tried the Risetto and my partner had lasange. The only quibble which we had was the Tirasimu, which was served as a very small portion. If it was twice the size it would just be about right. We finished off a very satisfying meal with tea and good coffee. Two glasses of wine and a bottle of water(5 Euro) brought the bill to 90 Euro. For Italian food this is a little pricey, however it won't stop me returning for another visit.

What a fantastic sunny day it was in Dalkey. We decided to eat outside and enjoy the good weather. We found that the menu somewhat outdated, by this I mean you could have your steak, pasta, club sandwich etc all served with chips. What wasn't on offer were selections of fresh salad sandwiches, rolls, panini's or anything lighter than a full meal. We enjoyed the food and the service overall was not too bad, but a few fresh ideas would not go a miss where the menu is concerned.

We decided to have a "pit stop" at the Expresso Bar Cafe, in order to fuel up, as we were only half way through our walk of the leafy Dublin 4. Although we arrived when it was very near closing time, they accomodated us with some very nice coffee and two delicious deserts of what could only be described as Chocolate biscuit crunch. We had to "up the pace" on the second half of the walk to try and work it off, but it was well worth it.

What a Rip Off this place is.It is expensive for what you get, and just to prove my point, the lady beside me (with the I've just been ripped off look on her face)was charged E2:50 for two slices of plain white bread for her child.I went for the chicken wrap with coffee which came to ten euro. There is no effort put in, and the wrap is served with a couple of crisps. The staff are uninterested as there is a captive audience of patrons. This sandwich bar is a place to be avoided.

I had a duck starter and a very tasty Lamb rice dish as my main course.Overall our meals were well presented, full of flavor, and had lovely texture. Well as the saying goes "If you buy cheap, don't be surprised if you get cheap", and thats really about the best way of describing the early bird menu at Toscana.A party of six of us went in tonight pre theatre, We decided to order from the early bird Menu. The starters were tasty but tasted like a real Microwave job. The main courses were poor overall, my meal, was Penne Pasta with what looked like stewing beef in a tomato based sauce. Those of us who had lasange seemed best pleased. The biggest disappointment however was the desserts. I am a lover of Tiramisu, and whatever was served to me looked, and tasted like it had come out of a packet. However I will say that the atmosphere upstairs seemed very lively as was the service. At 22 Euro per head it's a cheap meal, however the food tastes every bit as cheap. I won't be going back.

The steaks were a bit on the crispy side, most of the waiting staff were foreign but had quite good English. I have had worse meals for a lot more money around Dublin. Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
