Ko's Chinese Restaurant

Ko's Chinese Restaurant

Posted on 25 November 2012
A lovely restaurant in Cavan town with very unusual, classy décor. Prawn crackers and a jug of water were brought to our table as soon as we were seated. Menu is fairly extensive, if a bit pricey. We opted for a platter for two as a starter. It was very tasty, but not worth the €19 price tag on it. It’s the most expensive starter platter we’ve ever had, anywhere. I had mixed vegetables in hot garlic sauce for mains, absolutely delicious, and an extremely generous portion. All meals were served on very fancy dishes (still doesn’t warrant the high prices though). Service was very good and staff friendly and cheerful.

Red Panda

Have dined in the Red Panda previously and have always enjoyed eating here.. The food on this occasion was equally good, and portions generous. There was something lacking though. We got a feeling that the restaurant may have changed hands since the last time, as the staff weren’t as friendly as on our previous visit. Because it was mid-week there weren’t that many diners there, with the result that staff were standing around chatting. It also meant they were over to our table like a shot as soon as a plate was empty. It’s good to see plates being taken away promptly, but it's a bit off-putting to think that our every move was being watched. Service was prompt (perhaps a little too prompt) but things do get lost in translation when the servers don’t have very good English!

Statler Bar and Waldorf Lounge @ Osprey Hotel

Statler Bar and Waldorf Lounge @ Osprey Hotel

Posted on 17 November 2012
Dropped in here this afternoon for something to eat. We stood for a few minutes at the entrance to the lounge while four waiters looked at us, said nothing, and continued to talk amongst themselves. We got fed up waiting so we seated ourselves at a comfortable table. Menu is standard lounge/bar fare so we both ordered scampi and chips and tea for two. Took a bit of time for our meal to arrive, and while that’s usually a good sign that a meal is being cooked freshly, we can't say we were over excited with it when it arrived. The chips were good and chunky, if a bit overdone, the side salad was adequate, but the coating on the scampi was hard as a bullet. They were obviously cooked for too long. We didn't dare plunge our forks into them for fear they would up shooting across the room, we so ate the individual pieces with our fingers! The surroundings in the lounge are quite nice, and the wall of bottles behind the counter is a good feature. I liked the ladder that is pushed along on a rail to facilitate access to the higher bottles. It reminded me of some of the old drapery shops in Dublin when I was growing up. However, nice surroundings didn't compensate for the very average meal we had today. It cost €25 for the two of us, which wouldn't break the bank, but I've hard far nicer meals for less money in other eateries. Service was good at our table but it’s a pity we had that encounter with indifferent staff when we first entered the lounge. Overall it was a bit of a disappointment as we'd heard a lot about the Osprey, but it didn't deliver for us today unfortunately.

Thai Spice

Thai Spice

Posted on 04 November 2012
This is a cosy little restaurant hiding up a laneway at the Amiens Street end of Talbot Street. Have been to Thailand and this is the most authentic Thai food I've tasted in Dublin - ever. Could see into the kitchen and was amazed watching them churn out dish after dish, all freshly cooked to order, whether it be for the sit-in diners or the takeaway service. Food is absolutely tantalising here - a feast for the taste buds, and it's so colourful and presented on lovely oblong-shaped plates. Service was good and the meal was excellent value for money. Couldn't fault a thing about it. Had a great meal and an enjoyable evening and will most definitely be going back again very soon. I would highly recommend it to prospective customers.

Popped in here for a snack before heading home after a visit to the cinema. The place was absolutely devoid of atmosphere, and needs something to add a bit of life to it. I just had Garlic Mushrooms with a pot of tea. The portion was very generous and was served with two very thick slices of delicious toasted bread. Service was nothing to write home about, and the staff aren't the friendliest. It's a real ‘quick snack’ place and not somewhere you'd go for an intimate meal. It suited our needs this evening but we certainly won't be rushing back.

Had a 3-course meal here with a GrabOne voucher. First impression was the restaurant was nice and spacious with a decent gap between the tables. I liked the decor on the walls too - large colour photographs of the gondolas in Venice. We were seated quickly and given menus, but nobody asked did we want a drink as we looked at the menus, nor was water offered. There’s quite a bit of choice on the menu and there are lots of deals on offer. I had Spicy Chicken Wings for starters which were cooked to perfection and falling off the bone, but were unfortunately plastered in sweet chilli sauce – as was the lettuce that decorated the plate. Pollo Cocciatore followed for mains but it too had excessive amounts of sauce – tomato puree on this occasion. I’m very fond of both these sauces but feel the chef was a bit heavy handed with them. Sauces served with a meal should not overpower the main ingredient, and on both occasions last night, they did.

Was last in this restaurant four years ago and it was very good then. There’s been one change though – it’s even better now! Had the most delicious three course dinner here on a MenuPages voucher. For a Wednesday evening the place was buzzing, and a constant stream of customers ensured the tables weren’t left empty for long. Nice to see everyone being given the same menu, regardless of whether they were a MenuPages customer or not. I had the Spicy Prawn Crabcakes for starters, the grilled Brill for mains (that was the special this evening) and a tantalising zingy lemon tart with fresh cream for dessert. There isn’t a thing I could fault about this restaurant. The atmosphere, the décor, the service, the food, the wine…. I could go on.

We got a table in the window to the front of the restaurant, which was lovely, but they could do with bringing the covering on the window up just that little bit higher. We felt as if we were 'on view' to passers by. If the covering even came up to shoulder height it would be much better, and would still allow diners to see the lovely coastal views. There is a dining area to the back of the restaurant, but we are glad we weren't seated there as the toilets open right on to the area! The food here is well cooked and nicely presented. Service was good (even though our waitress was a bit scatty). We enjoyed a nice bottle of red wine with our meal and shared a pancake dessert with ice cream. Be warned this is a very large dessert for one person! The restaurant was pleasantly busy all evening, and although we enjoyed our meal, it didn’t have the ‘wow’ factor for some reason.

This is a great place to have a meal. There’s lots of choice on the menu and the service was good, even though it did slow down a bit as the night wore on. Our waitress was absolutely charming and very good humoured – it makes such a change and added so much to a lovely evening. Our meals were delicious and we had dessert too. We got excellent value for money, which included a bottle of wine and we would recommend Flaming Jacks to anybody visiting Derry city. Just one word of warning, it can get extremely noisy in the disco bar next door, but we enjoyed listening to the choice of music, which was far enough away from us not to ruin our evening! We dined on a Friday night so we don’t know whether this is just a Friday night thing with the disco.

We had the pleasure of a delicious meal in this restaurant while staying in their B&B for a couple of nights. This establishment is in an exquisitely picturesque location - a little it of heaven! The dining room overlooks the harbour and it is such a relaxing place to eat. Mouthwatering, beautifully cooked and presented, we couldn’t fault anything about it – the Sticky Toffee Pudding is to die for by the way!! We would highly recommend Herons Cove as a place to eat, but booking is essential as it is so popular, and with good reason. Their menu is fabulous and if you're a fish lover, then you've got it made. Staff are friendly and courteous – we couldn’t ask for more.

Staying overnight in Kinnitty was a birthdayl treat and we had a meal booked in the Sli Dala restaurant. It's quaint, and old fashioned, but just perfect! The dining room looks out onto the massive lawn in front of the castle. We had a gorgeous meal in candle-lit surroundings. All the food is totally resh and locally sourced. Can't say enough good things about the meal, it was perfect from beginning to end. Service was good and staff friendly. Dining in Kinnity would be a rare treat for many (as it was for us) but we would certainly recommend it.

Had a delicious three-course meal in the hotel's bar whilst on an overnight stay. Menu options were very good and our meal was served promptly by friendly and attentive staff. We dined in the bar because the restaurant wasn't open, but that certainly didn't take from the meal. Mid-way through the evening, the lights were dimmed in the dining area and this added to the lovely atmosphere with candles flickering on the tables. Dinner was particularly good value for three courses, well cooked, well presented well and of a very high quality. It far exceeded what we would expect from bar food, so well done to the staff here, on all counts.

This is a lovely restaurant in the heart of Wexford town. It’s big and spacious and the décor is very appealing. The menu isn’t extensive, but what was on it was good. As soon as we were seated, a bowl of prawn crackers was brought to our table. We were only having a main meal and it was delicious. Service started off well but then became a bit hit and miss, which it shouldn’t have been because the restaurant wasn’t that busy (it was a Wednesday evening - hence our very low rating for atmosphere, or lack of it!). Food portions were decent and staff pleasant. The quays are nearby for anybody wishing to go for an after-dinner stroll (which we did). We would recommend the Emerald Gardens to anyone visiting Wexford.

The Harbourmaster Restaurant & Bar

The Harbourmaster Restaurant & Bar

Posted on 18 May 2012
First impression – very bright and airy and a nice aspect looking out over the water of one of the Liffey docks. It wasn’t till we were seated that we noticed what a dreadful condition the chairs were in – the backs of them were all worn and shiny and the seat part wasn’t much better. They really were filthy looking and need to be either covered or replaced. It looked very bad and really is not acceptable. We were seated down at the back end of the restaurant, right beside a door that led out onto the decking. We were tormented all evening by patrons going outside for a smoke but also by staff going out for various reasons and not closing the door behind them. I got up at least a dozen times during the evening to close it. There were another couple dining near us and the man actually had his jacket on he was so cold. Management in the Harbour Master need to attend to that door immediately, as I’m sure it’s just a simple matter of fixing the spring that should automatically close when someone walks out the door. They also need to attend to a serious leak which was spilling down onto the tiles at the corridor leading to the toilets in the basement. There was a sign saying “Wet Floor” but no attempt seemed to have been made to wipe up the small flood that was there and it is an accident waiting to happen. Despite all that, the meal was gorgeous. I had the lamb which was tender and delicious, and the fresh vegetables and garlic potatoes we got as sides were perfect. Service was very good, it’s just a pity about the other negative aspects.

Good World Chinese Restaurant

Good World Chinese Restaurant

Posted on 04 May 2012
Good World has always had a reputation for great food, but on this occasion I felt it didn't come up to the standards we had experienced previously. Opted for Crab Meat Cocktail for starters. It was nicely presented, but very difficult to find the crab meat in it – perhaps it was just smothered with seafood sauce, because that’s all that could be tasted. Had Szechwan Prawns for mains with boiled rice - a very nice dish and a decent portion. Had one of those frozen ice-cream desserts, which was surprisingly nice and finished off our meal with coffee. The bottle of red we chose was rather sharp and didn’t go down too well, however it’s a lottery when choosing wine – you win some, you lose some. Service was good and the restaurant was absolutely jammed by the time we were leaving, so it's obviously a very popular venue.

Typical Italian-style restaurant – lovely music playing in the background, candles were flickering, fresh clean table linen dressed the tables – it was just perfect. It’s quite a small place but ideal for a quiet meal. There are some tables on the patio outside, and on a sunny day I’m sure it would feel almost continental dining outdoors, but not on the evening we visited! The menus are very good, and we opted for the early-bird, which had a pretty good selection on it. I had Bruschetta for a starter and Seafood with Fettuccini for mains – both scrumptious. Fresh water was topped up at our table all evening. Beautiful food, excellent service (by one waitress who looked after everbody) a delicious bottle of wine, and two coffees all for under €60. This is exceptional value which would be hard to beat anywhere.

Swans Chinese Restaurant (Kilkenny)

Swans Chinese Restaurant (Kilkenny)

.This is a lovely restaurant restaurant. Can’t remember the last time I encountered such pleasant and good humoured staff. While it was fairly quiet when we arrived, it didn’t take long before all tables were occupied, and as soon as we tasted the food we realised why Swans is such a popular dining spot. Had the Meat Sung (for 2 people) to start (absolutely mouth-watering) followed by Beef Kung Po (to die for). My dining companion had Chicken in Honey and Plum Sauce, which was also excellent (I know this because I stole some of it!). The portions are very generous and we were left to enjoy our meal in peace. Tables were cleaned down promptly and the white linen table napkins were twisted and folded into shapes that looked like water lilies. All in all, a really nice place to have a good meal, with great service and value for money.

Paid a return visit to the Jasmine Palace as we were so impressed with it last time around. On this occasion we were seated in a different area altogether and there just wasn’t the same ambience. A lot of dishes have been taken off the menu too. Not sure if this is just for the early bird or if it’s right across the board. Our meal was good and the service was prompt, but there seemed to be a lot of staff just standing around, which was a bit off-putting. Our return visit was disappointing, and it does seem that things have been allowed to slip a bit.

Tamara Restaurant

Tamara Restaurant

Posted on 29 March 2012
Parking close to Tamaras is available in the Square, which is just a few minutes walk away. First two hours are free and each our afterwards costs €2 which is very good value. Have visited this restaurant on several occasions since it opened many years ago and our last experience here about 12 months was not a good one. The standard of food and service had definitely dropped, but the prices had risen. Glad to see therefore that management have seen sense, and they now have a Seasonal Menu offer of three courses for €20, which we opted for. There’s a pretty good choice of 6 starters and 10 mains. We were seated promptly and the standard bowl of prawn crackers was brought whilst we decided on our meals. We’d barely settled ourselves in our seats when a waitress was over to ask if we’d like to order drinks. We asked her to give us a few minutes, which she did, but unfortunately the next waitress was in like a shot asking the same question, to be followed by two other different waitresses over the next 10 minutes. I don’t know whether this is restaurant policy that serving staff constantly push customers to order drinks, but it’s not pleasant and was a downright nuisance in my view. We ordered our starters, which were brought promptly and had barely finished when another waitress was over clearing up and asking if we were ready for our mains. The food was lovely, but I do think the portions have decreased considerably in size. Likewise as we approached the end of our mains, another waitress was over asking if we wanted to see the dessert menu. We looked at it, but it consisted of those awful, tasteless frozen concoctions, so we declined. Needless to say, the coffees arrived with lightning speed when we ordered them. We had a good night, but waiting staff were constantly hovering, which made me feel uneasy. The toilets in this establishment are spotlessly clean, so full marks for that. Despite the good value I won’t be in a hurry back. Tamaras need to retrain their waiting staff on how not to annoy diners. When i

This is a lovely restaurant, spread out over three floors, but only the street-level dining area was in use this evening. It’s a long and narrow establishment, but clever use of a large mirror along one wall gave the impression that the room was twice its actual size. It wasn't very busy as it was quite early, so it's not possible to comment on the atmosphere. I had Garlic Mushrooms for starters, Chicken Masala for mains, a delicious warm Chocolate Brownie for dessert, coffee to finish off and somewhere in between we managed to squeeze in a bottle of wine! Gorgeous meal, very good service and overall a very good experience. Would recommend La Caverna and it won’t be the last time we’ve eaten here, that’s for sure.

Chrysanthemum Chinese Restaurant

Chrysanthemum Chinese Restaurant

Posted on 06 March 2012
Have just returned from a lovely meal in the Chrysanthemum. The restaurant, which is in the grounds of the Orchard Inn on Butterfield Avenue, opens at 6 p.m. which was very handy as we went there straight from work. There's plenty of parking in the grounds and the area is well lit. They do a very good early bird of 3 courses for €17.50 per person. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant, but you wouldn't expect one at 6 p.m. in the evening. What I would expect though is a restaurant to be warm - the Chrysanthemum was absolutely freezing. A dish of prawn crackers were brought to our table along with glasses of fresh water which were topped up by the waiter for the duration of our meal. The menu wasn't extensive but the choices on it were good. I had soup to start (which warmed my frozen bones up for me) followed by House Special Chow Mein. My dining companion had Spare Ribs to start followed by Prawns with Ginger. We both finished off with coffee - no drinks this time as we were in the car. We both agreed the meals were excellent - had we been at home we'd have licked the plates clean. The service was prompt and our waiter was very pleasant. There were quite a few tables occupied when we were leaving so this is a popular place by all accounts. Will pay a return visit at some time but do hope they have the restaurant warmed up by then.

Sinergie Restaurant & Kudos Bar

Sinergie Restaurant & Kudos Bar

Posted on 03 March 2012
This review is about Kudos Restaurant as Sinergie isn't open during the week. The one thing lacking in this restaurant the evening we dined was the atmosphere, but to be fair it was quite early and there were only a handful of people dining. It's a big restaurant, separated into two distinct areas by double doors and it would take a lot of customers to fill it. We were served by a charming and very friendly waitress who was very knowledgable about the dishes on the menu. Decided on having a dessert instead of a starter, and had Chilli Prawns for mains (mouthwateringly good) and Crunchie Mousse for dessert. The latter was totally sinful but deliciously light. A bottle of wine and two coffees rounded off our meal. The meals here are very affordable, and considering this is a restaurant within an hotel, it's good to see that customers aren't ripped off simply because they are staying on the premises to dine. We've no idea what prices are like in Sinergie, but perhaps there are MenuPages diners out there who have tried it and will let us know.

Vanilla Pod Restaurant

Posted on 03 March 2012
This is a small but beautifully decorated restaurant with clever use of candles throughout, which added to the lovely atmosphere. The menu is good and although we wouldn’t normally be dessert people, we just couldn’t resist what they had to offer. I had chilli prawns for starters (to die for!) and salmon for mains which was served with good old fashioned chunky chips - like your Mammy would make. From start to finish, it was a very good experience, service was prompt and staff friendly. Just one comment for restaurant owners – restaurants are inclined to bring coffees just after desserts (and sometimes beforehand). Coffee is supposed to round off a meal, not to be sipped with your ice cream! As a result the coffees are left to the side while desserts are being demolished and then end up cooling considerably, even going cold. Apart from that, couldn’t fault anything. Would visit the Vanilla Pod again, I loved it!

Used a GrabOne voucher for a brunch at this café. It seemed that many other people were using vouchers as well. Initially when we went in, the waiter didn’t seem to have a clue what we were talking about. Have to admit, my first impression of this place wasn’t a great one. It was noisy and untidy, and we had to go looking for a clean table to sit as. There was only one person at the counter doing everything apparently and I know he can’t be two places at one time, but tables should be cleaned down as quickly as possible when diners have finished their meal and departed. It really looked awful. The brunch was absolutely huge – two eggs, three sausages, two rashers, hash browns, mushrooms, beans, toast and a side bowl of chips. It was freshly cooked, but I just wasn’t impressed by the café.

Service is very good and the two waiters who looked after us on that evening were both friendly and efficient. The meal was absolutely delicious, food cooked to perfection and plenty of it too. We were each served with a dish of freshly cooked vegetables from which we could help ourselves. I had Kilmore Key Crab/Prawn salad to start, Silverhill duck for mains and a mouthwatering pannacotta dessert. It was topped off with two coffees and a bottle of wine. Had a very enjoyable evening here. The meal was delicious and service was very good. Two negative points though. On each table there’s a set of three little stainless steel dipping dishes. Two of the three dishes on our table were minus the handle in the lid. This really should be attended to as it doesn’t look good because there is a hole in the lid where the handle had been attached and it’s quite obvious that the handle has been broken off. The second thing relates to paying the bill. When the waiter came to the table, I was asked out loud if a gratuity was to be added to the VISA card. This was within earshot of other diners and was not a nice thing to do. I told the waiter I wouldn’t be doing so and he didn’t seem too pleased about it. If a tip is warranted, I will leave one on the table, but I never put a tip on my credit card. A situation like this could cause serious embarrassment to some diners, and possibly even make them feel obliged to put a tip on their card. It’s a practice that has crept into restaurants here in the past few years and I do not like it.

Chameleon Restaurant

Chameleon Restaurant

Posted on 21 November 2011
This restaurant is laid out over three floors, with a very narrow stairway so those of an unsteady disposition might prefer to dine on the ground floor. The seating arrangements have been mentioned in other reviews of the Chameleon. Diners have a choice as to where they would like to sit, either on traditional chairs, or at the low tables. I was intrigued watching people seated at the low tables. Have to admit I couldn’t sit and eat like that as it looked extremely uncomfortable, despite the profusion of velvet cushions and candles to make it look appealing. We were left waiting rather a long time for our meal to be brought to our table after we’d ordered it. That’s probably a good sign as it means it’s being freshly cooked, but it did get to the stage where we were wondering were they ever going to feed us. Service was good, particularly by a young waiter who told us he was only working there a few days. He was very pleasant and extremely helpful in explaining the dishes. There was a non-stop stream of people arriving here all evening, and a reservation really is necessary. I enjoyed the meal, but it didn’t bowl me over. Perhaps Indonesian dining is something that ‘grows’ on someone over time?

We had an advance booking but found ourselves in town much earlier than the planned time, yet this was no problem to the staff and we were seated without any fuss. It’s a small, busy restaurant and filled up fairly quickly. There was a good atmosphere which got even better as the evening wore on. The menu is very good and the food is absolutely delicious. We were served by a very pleasant waitress with a great sense of humour. Enjoyed a lovely evening here, we were left to dine at our leisure and to top it all we were given free coffees on the house at the end of our meal. It’s earmarked for a return visit - very impressed with our dining experience here.

Beautiful décor in this restaurant – not your typical Indian décor - but very contemporary. Staff very pleasant and welcoming. Got a great seat the window! It’s a very busy restaurant, and it’s easy to see why – the quality of the food is excellent and presentation was top-class. They have the most unusual and quirky crockery and glassware, and it all adds to the overall dining experience. They also provide a take-away service, but that aspect of the restaurant is carried out discreetly and not in view of the sit-in diners. The toilets here are absolutely spotlessly clean, smelling of fresh flowers and beautifully kept. Terry towelling hand squares and hand cream are provided. Have never seen anything like this in a restaurant before. Monaghan people are very lucky to have such a great restaurant in their midst! Will be back here at the next opportunity we get, and the sooner the better.

Nice spacious restaurant, and rather quiet for a Friday evening. Couldn't judge the atmosphere as a result. We didn’t take the car, but for anyone using their car to get here, parking is a problem in Terenure generally. You will get 1 hour free parking provided by the restaurant. There’s a note to this effect on the door – that’s if you’re lucky enough to be able to find a space in the first place. It’s a clamping area, so don’t have your night ruined by having to pay a big release fine. I had Prawn Pakora for a starter and Beef Balti for mains. Both dishes were very elegantly presented, delicious, and mouthwatering. The beef in particular was so tender I could have eaten it with a spoon. All in all, a very enjoyable, relaxing will definitely go back and try something from their rather extensive main menu.

Cape Greko (Malahide)

Cape Greko (Malahide)

This is a lovely restaurant in a prime spot in Malahide village and, being upstairs, one gets a view of the sea whilst dining. It seems to be quite a popular place with everyone, from couples to families and everyone in between. I like the décor, it’s simple and understated and the Greek music being played in the background was subtle, yet could still be heard. Service was very good and delivered with a smile. Like a previous reviewer, we were left to enjoy our evening without being rushed to leave once our meal was finished. The meal was delicious and there are lots of mouth-watering dishes on the menu to tempt us back again. Maybe next time we’ll have a dessert instead of a starter as we didn't have room for both!

It wasn’t too busy when we arrived here this evening, but it filled up very quickly. There were quite a few ‘reserved’ signs on tables, so it’s obviously a popular place. It’s a bit cramped in layout, the tables feel as if they’re on top of one another, and it doesn’t help with people having to squeeze past your table on their way to the toilets. Having said that, the meal was very good, full of colour and bursting with flavour. Service was prompt and staff friendly – and with a bill of €54 for two early birds (3 courses) and a bottle of wine, that’s pretty good value.

Hadn’t tried Persian cuisine before so this was a first. Had a delicious vegetable kebab – lots of lovely freshly roasted vegetables on a bed of mixed leaves with a tasty dressing. The portion was generous and very filling, just the thing to keep you going on an active sightseeing day. It wasn’t that busy as we were quite early for lunch, but customers began to trickle in as we left. It seems to appeal to all ages, and the value is good, particularly the lunchtime offers.

Had intended using up some MenuPoints in this restaurant, but there were plenty of special offers on so we decided to hold off and use the points in another restaurant at a future date. There were 2-course and 3-coures early birds, different combinations of offers, some with a glass of Stella Artois, and others with wine. We were brought a jug of water as soon as we were seated, and on mentioning MenuPages we were given a free glass of red wine. I had the Tiger Prawns in garlic and chilli, they were juicy and succulent and perfectly cooked. Service was prompt and staff friendly. There was a steady stream of diners in and out all evening. Toilets were clean and tidy and the meal was good value. Don’t forget to mention MenuPages and get your free glass of wine!

The Bracken Grill Steak & Seafood Restaurant @ The Bracken Court Hotel

It's neither possible, nor fair, to judge the atmosphere in a restaurant when a meal is booked for 6 p.m. The Laveer is a spacious restaurant and there were only two other couples there at that time. We went for the €29, three-course meal-for-two. We shared a starter and a dessert and both chose different mains. I had the Hake with dill mash and it was delicious. I’m a fish lover and have never had Hake before but after tasting it last night, will definitely have it again. It was beautifully cooked, tender and moist. The mash was lovely and creamy and we were brought a very colourful side dish of roasted vegetables to accompany our meal. The dessert of Chocolate Ganache Pudding was to die for. Meals were well cooked, and presentation was top class. Service was prompt - our waitress had a great sense of humour which added to the evening. It came to €51 for two of us (including a bottle of red wine). That's very good value by any standards these days.

Jade Garden (Dundalk)

Jade Garden (Dundalk)

It’s a bit hard to peruse a menu before going to a particular restaurant if there’s no menu posted on MenuPages despite the fact that restaurant is listed on the site! Was doing a bit of research before going to Dundalk, and of the three Chinese restaurants listed on the site, none of them had a menu posted and only one had a review done on it. Needles to say, the latter is the one we chose, and it was a good choice. This is a very tastefully decorated restaurant, and diners can enjoy a meal in pleasant, relaxing surroundings. It was busy the night we were there, but that didn’t interfere with the service, which was very good. A refreshing change was the jug of iced water that was brought to our table the minute we were seated. We were also brought a dish of prawn crackers to nibble on whilst deciding on our main meal. I had Crispy Beef with Chilli and Garlic, which was absolutely delicious. One thing I have mentioned before, and which is becoming far too common, and it’s the practice of having to order rice, (or chips), at extra cost, with your meal in a Chinese restaurant. Rice is a staple food in China so I do expect it to be provided with my meal. Having said that, the meal was very good and there was no rush on us to leave the restaurant, we were left to dine at our leisure. I hope the owners of the restaurant read this review and would suggest they consider posting a menu on this site.

Old Mill Restaurant (Temple Bar)

Old Mill Restaurant (Temple Bar)

Posted on 12 July 2011
Temple Bar was hopping on this sunny Sunday afternoon, but there were very few diners in the Old Mill when we called in. Had a main course of a Club Sandwich which was substantial and delicious. It was served in a very fresh, soft floury bun, topped with a fried egg before the ‘lid’ was put on! It came with a side salad and a dish of lovely chips – crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Enjoyed dipping the chips in the garlic mayo which was provided with the meal. There’s plenty of old memorabilia of days gone by displayed around the walls of the restaurant, ranging from notable characters from Dublin’s sports, literary and music fields, to reminders of the struggle for Irish freedom. Our waitress was chatty and friendly, and service was very good. Great place for grabbing a quick bite to eat before heading home after a busy day out.

Glendalough was buzzing with tourists on Sunday afternoon, which is not surprising given the beautiful weather. My choice from the menu was Donegal Salmon which was served with freshly cooked carrots, cabbage and fluffy mashed potato. It was all dressed off with a generous helping of garlic butter and a chunk of lemon on the side. It’s refreshing to see that there are still dining establishments where quality fresh food is beautifully cooked and presented without being smothered in sauces of one kind or another. Couldn’t fault this visit to the Glendalough Hotel, it was a delicious meal, with good service, and enjoyed in pleasant surroundings.

Just back from a very enjoyable lunch in the Poitin Stil. The place was thronged with diners, yet there wasn't that 'packed' feeling about it. Being a warm day all three of us opted for salads from the extensive selection on offer. I had the Cajun Chicken salad and it was mouth-watering and absolutely delicious. It was €10.95 which was excellent value for the very generous portion that was served to me. It was as big as a dinner, so I'll be full for the rest of the day. Diners who choose salads can help themselves to bread rolls and brown bread to accompany their meals. There was a very good menu at the Hot Counter, and the portions there were also substantial judging by the trays of food that were carried past us. Will definitely be back again for another visit.

Tung Sing

Posted on 27 May 2011
Had eaten in the Tung Sing before and remembered the food was lovely. Not so last night unfortunately. First thing was that was off-putting when we were seated was the discovery that they were using paper table cloths. That’s just not on – it felt like we were at a children’s tea party. My dining companion remarked that there was a linen table cloth underneath the paper ones, but that it was dirty on his side. That’s not acceptable either. Service was prompt and staff were pleasant, but the Manager saw fit to sit in the corner with his nose stuck in a newspaper for the evening, which didn’t look very professional on his part. I felt that the place had gone completely downhill. Tung Sing Chow Mein was my choice of meal, and a jug of gravy was brought to the table to go with it – very peculiar. Needless to say the gravy wasn’t used. The Chow Mein didn’t have the ‘wow’ factor that so often accompanies Chinese food. Was totally underwhelmed with the whole experience.

If you're lucky enough (as we were) to get a table near the windows in the Merchants Bistro, you will be rewarded with uninterrupted views across Cork City. The Bistro was busy with couples, groups and families. Service was prompt and staff friendly. I had a delicious steak, cooked exactly as requested and served with lovely creamy mashed potato and a selection of five freshly cooked vegetables. Have never come across such a variety of vegetables (per person!) whilst dining out before. Presentation was excellent. A dessert of profiteroles drizzled in warm chocolate sauce, dressed with a fresh strawberry and dusted with icing sugar, looked almost too good to plunge a spoon into, but I managed - eventually! A nice bottle of wine during the meal and two coffees at the end, all added up to a lovely evening. Will definitely dine here again.

The Blazin Grill Steakhouse and Seafood

The Blazin Grill Steakhouse and Seafood

Posted on 15 May 2011
Hadn’t been to the Blazing Grill before, and was looking forward to trying it out. Was glad we’d booked a table, as it was very busy when we arrived. First thing we noticed was the background music – it should be subtle, not loud and intrusive. The prices on the restaurant were not the same as those advertised on MenuPages (needless to say, they were more expensive than those advertised on the site). Can this be amended on MenuPages please? I ordered Garlic Baked Mushrooms for starters. It was a very attractive looking dish, but only had two mushrooms and definitely had no garlic in it. Two mushrooms is a very meagre offering for a starter. Service was good initially but after we’d finished our starters and the dishes cleared away, they forgot about us. We could see that diners near us, who’d arrived after us, were tucking into their main courses. We must have been waiting at least 15 minutes before steak knives were brought to our table. It was another 5 minutes before there was any sign of our meal which we had to enqure about from the waitress who took our order. We didn’t realise until we’d started to eat that they’d mixed up the steaks! We’d ordered a medium- rare and a well-done. It’s obvious there was a panic in the kitchen when they realised they'd left some diners without their meals. We just switched steaks, but an error like that shouldn’t have happened. It could really upset someone who ordered a well-done steak to be served up a medium-rare instead. Having said all that our meals were delicious and we enjoyed them. The presentation was top-class, and it’s a pity the service wasn’t the same. Am not sure about a return visit to this restaurant. Food is delicious but a meal out consists of so much more than the food - it's the whole package that counts.

Attended a special celebratory dinner party in the Odessa. Very interesting establishment spread over four floors - rooms everywhere (and lots of stairs to negotiate!). Good rooftop area at the top of the house - decked patio area for smokers, or those just wishing to take in some fresh air. Delicious meal, but service was a bit slow. On first sight, portions appeared small but we agreed later that there was enough in what was presented. Nothing worse than being left with that 'stuffed' feeling after a meal. Can't comment on value for money as it was a party treat for us. Will try it some other time and assess the cost then. Atmosphere was great because of the party we were at, but by the sounds of things there was plenty of partying going on in all of the other rooms as well. Overall, a very pleasant evening.

Have passed by the Cedar Tree many times before and always intended visiting it, so seized the opportunity earlier this evening. It's a very bright restaurant - at least one can read the menu without requiring the aid of a miniature torch! Loved the mosaic tiles on the wall and table tops. The menu is pretty good and they also have an early bird, but we didn't go for that today (maybe next time). There were some Lebanese families dining there, which is always good to see. I had the Kibbe Saynieh (oven baked lamb) - it was absolutely delicious and came with a mouth-watering salad. Had ice-cream for dessert, and there was enough in it for two people, so we shared it . Ordered coffee but have to admit, I didn't like it - it's much stronger than anything I'd be used to, but at least I tried it. Service was very prompt and staff friendly - couldn't ask for more. Will definitely go back for a return visit.

This is a lovely restaurant hidden in the heart of Temple Bar. On first glance, the menu doesn't seem that exciting, but it's the quality of the food that's offered and not an exhaustive list of different dishes, that matters. The Bruschetta starter was deliciously refreshing and light, served on crusty warm bread. I had the Italian style pork for mains and was served up three large, thick slices of pork in a mouth-watering sauce. Didn't think I'd finish it as the portion was so huge, but eventually managed to clean the plate. A side salad order had enough for two people. Service was very prompt and courteous. This is the best Italian meal I've had in the city centre in years - it's authentic Italian fare, and not a sign of chips on the menu - great! Will definitely go back again.

The menu is a delight, with plenty to offer - lots of lovely savoury and sweet crepes, bagels, salads, soups etc. . My daughter had Feta Salad which she declared absolutely delicious - I had a taste of it so can agree with her on that. My own choice was Brie/Sundried Tomato/Pesto Bagel and it was really lovely. Side salads were deliciously fresh, with a lovely mustard dressing. The cost, with two cups of tea, was €18 -excellent value for a tasty, filling lunch. Great atmosphere in this busy restaurant, excellent service and a good experience all round. Will definitely be back for a future visit.

Even though it was very early evening when we got there, the restaurant was busy enough, and it filled up quickly as the evening wore on, with pre-theatre people. Hadn't been here for quite a few years but the food was as good as the last time! Lovely menu and good choice on offer, particularly for those interested in availing of the early-bird options. Service was quick, staff friendly and food cooked to perfection. Not really being 'dessert people' we were tempted by the Tiramisu, and what a delight it was! If you want a quick, cheap meal with a difference (Japanese, Sushi or whatever) this is the place, but don't expect restaurant standards as I'm still undecided what category of 'eaterie' to put this establishment into. MenuPages don't have it listed as anything particular, making it impossible to find using the Japanese, Sushi, Asian or Asian Fusion filter options on the site. Can this be looked into and sorted please as it's not helpful to potential customers.

Service was very good - we were looked after by a charming and very pleasant young lady. Can't understand how MenuPages have this listed as a 'cheap eats restaurant' - our meal came to €82. That was for a starter platter for two, two mains, a beer, a soft drink, a bottle of wine and two coffees. Food orders were taken promptly - the menu is quite good with lots of choice. For two starters and mains, one soft drink and two coffees the bill was €25.30. That would be pretty hard to beat, specially around the Grafton Street area. Our meals were delicious, freshly cooked and very nicely presented, and service was quick. We had quite a relaxing meal and while I would'nt say the restaurant was mad busy, there was a steady stream of customers in and out. There was no atmosphere in Cactus Jacks today, but it wasn't the restaurant's fault. We visited just after lunch, and only two tables were occupied. We just assumed that the 'rush' was over. It's a pleasant, nicely lit restaurant. I had a Burrito - cooked to perfection and very nicely presented, and my friend had Chicken Fajitas. We both enjoyed our meals, portions were plentiful - we couldn't face having dessert. Two soft drinks and the two meals came to €30 which is pretty good value for what we got. Only one negative aspect - despite the restaurant being practically empty, we were left sitting for almost 15 minutes before our order was taken. We had to call the waitress and remind her we were there. She then looked surprised as if we'd just appeared! Overall it was a good experience. We were seated at the window and it was a bit worrying to observe the empty tables and chairs at the many eateries along that strip. Maybe it was just because it was immediately after lunch hour, but if not, it's a mystery as to how they're managing to stay in business.

There was a slight delay when we arrived in having our table ready so we were promptly seated at another table and given drinks on the house! Food was beautifully cooked and presented, service was excellent - couldn't really fault this restaurant. Loved the fresh chunk of bread that was brought to the table as soon as we were seated - a lovely homely touch. We availed of the "buy 1 main course get 1 free for 2000 points" so it worked out great for us. Two important things that Menu Pages members may not be aware of - 1. If you mention Menu Pages on arrival (or present your booking confirmation if you have one) you get free cocktails on the house! So not only did we get the drinks on the house initially due to the delay with the table, we got the cocktails AND a free main course due to the points. 2. If you use the Drury Street car park you just show them your restaurant receipt when you return to your car and you'll get 20% off the cost off your parking. That's printed on the top of the bill from the restaurant. Full marks to Brasserie Sixty6 for customer service!

Paid a return visit last night to discover it had changed hands - and not for the better unfortunately. Service was hit-and-miss, seriously lacking the professionalism of the previous owner, and the menu and wine list were a disappointment. Prices are far too high for the quality of food now being served. I had Cajun Chicken on a bed of noodles - the noodles were extremely greasy, and I couldn't finish them. With such a large number in the party, there were lots of different dishes ordered and there was nothing but praise for the food. Presentation of meals is superb and it seemed a shame to plunge a fork into such beautiful art work! Try the chocolate souffle with hot gooey chocolate core for dessert - it's absolutely to die for. The Queens Bar

Posted on 29 June 2010
Lunch and cool drinks al fresco on a sunny day is a lovely thought. We seized the opportunity today while in Dalkey, to visit the Queens – always looks very inviting when passing by. Patio was quite busy but we managed to get a table. Things got off to a bad start when my lunch companion asked for something she’d seen on the menu displayed at the front of the pub. The waitress very rudely slapped a menu down on the table and pointed out that the menu on display out front was the Evening Menu which is different to the Lunch Menu. I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad (€2 extra for the chicken, which is a bit steep, but I knew that before ordering). Service was prompt but my salad was most unimpressive. Apart from it being the most expensive Chicken Caesar Salad I’ve ever had (at €10.95 – is this because it’s Dalkey??) there wasn’t the slightest hint of a taste of Caesar dressing. It didn't actually taste of anything, and was very disappointing. Two salads, a side order of cheesy garlic potatoes [a tiny portion I might add] some cool drinks and two coffees came to just under €38 – dear enough for lunch and far too dear for what was delivered to our table. Would probably have to remortgage the house to have an evening meal there! Won’t be paying a return visit to the Queens.

Have to give this restaurant 5 stars, all the way through. Charming location in the lovely village of Laragh - buzzing with activity inside, yet relaxing. Good atmosphere too. Just the place for a nice relaxing meal after a long day's hiking the hills around Glendalough. We were 45 minutes late, but that wasn't a problem. We were seated promptly & orders for drinks taken, allowing us time to peruse the menus. Fabulous selection of meals - the only problem was trying to decide which dishes to choose. Excellent service, and all meals were beautifully cooked and presented. Wouldn't normally be a dessert fan, but couldn't resist the temptation of Warm Lemon Meringue Pie. Have to disagree with a previous reviewer - it was absolutely delicious. Great value too - four course meal for two, a beer and a soft drink, plus a bottle of wine - €83.80. We were also given free Baileys liqueurs on the house to round off the evening - this eatery is definitely on the 'return visit' list.

We were seated immediately (no reservation required), a plate of poppadoms/dips was brought to our table and our drinks order was taken. The menu provided plenty of choice, but the wine list could do with improving. Our meal was delicious, and service was very good. Coffees were 'on the house' which was a nice gesture. It's a very small, compact restaurant, and could perhaps do with a little 'touching up' here and there. The paint on the low-level radiator was in bad condition and it's not very appealing to be looking at something like that whilst having a meal.

This restaurant is a must for Chinese food fans. It's small and cosy and the food is just fabulous. Atmosphere was lacking as it was late afternoon, but would imagine it was buzzing much later on in the evening. One very good sign in any Chinese restaurant is to see the number of Chinese families eating there. Service was excellent, non-intrusive and water glasses were topped up constantly. Portions are huge, so make sure you go with a good appetite! Two courses and bottle of wine set us back €50 - that will be hard to beat anywhere. There was 10% off yesterday because it was St. Patrick's Day, but even with 10% added, it still would have been excellent value. Will definitely go back. Only have two negative aspects to report - the first is very important for prospective diners - BRING CASH as they don't take credit cards here! The second is the tables - your plate is actually on a sheet of glass and the table cloth is under the glass - made it feel and look like a canteen, which is a shame as this is a charming little place. Any chance they might remove the glass? It's easy enough to launder table cloths and my dinner guest said there was a washing machine downstairs in the gents.

Busy place this on a rugby Saturday afternoon! Lovely building - nice first impression when we walked inside. Were seated immediately, and lucky to get two seats tucked away from the madding crowd. Meal was average, nothing to write home about - the chips which accompanied my lasagna were tepid and the salad on the plate was warm ... !! Food service was good but had a hard enough job trying to get hold of someone to calculate our bill. Will excuse this because of the crowds due to the match. They've an offer at the moment of a four course meal & bottle of wine for two for €59. Might be tempted to try that. One other thing -about the toilets (almost always a necessary visit when having a meal). They're down in the dungeon and spotlessly clean but I DO NOT like the fact that there's a left turn for the ladies, a right turn for the gents and no dividing screen between the two. There are only cubicles in the men's (to spare their blushes?) but I don't think it's good enough and can't understand how that was allowed in the plans when it was refurbished.

This restaurant occupies a nice little spot opposite the prom in Cobh. There was a gentle 'buzz' when we arrived here early on Wednesday evening. It's a cosy little place with a quaint private 'booth' situated at the front window (which was occupied). Good choice of meals on the menu. Service was quick and waiter was attentive without being in our faces. Meal was delicious and we had a nice bottle of wine, but the wine list wasn't very exciting and could do with being extended. It was a wee bit pricey, but we enjoyed it nonetheless.

Had an enjoyable dining experience here on a miserable, wet Wednesday evening. Two early birds (4 courses), a soft drink, a beer and a bottle of wine - €59 - super value! Food was very good and service was great. Will definitely come back here next time we're in north County Dublin - for the value, the service, and to try the other dishes on the menu.

This place is a little gem - quaint, full of character and in a beautiful setting in Dalkey. Great for access as it's beside the DART. We chose the 4-course special including a bottle of wine for €80 per couple. The whole meal was absolutely delicious - the service and personal attention was excellent, without being in your face - and the chef came out at the end of the evening to ask if we'd enjoyed our meal. We'll most definitely be back here for another visit and would highy recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

Scent Garden Restaurant

Scent Garden Restaurant

Cheap and cheerful - and very busy for a Thursday evening. Perhaps it was something to do with Arthurs Day? Pub downstairs was buzzing, so may have helped the upstairs business. Both sit-in diners and takeaway kept the place going all night. Meal was great value - €14.95 for a starter, soup and a main. Service was fine despite the busy evening, and the food was very good. Not exactly the place you'd take someone for that special occasion, but that's just a personal opinion.Only one criticism (and have said this before about other restaurants) - the take-away business should not be visible to the sit-diners. Because of the way the Scent Garden is designed, there was a waiter dashing back and forth from the kitchen and across the floor to the counter all night long with takeaway orders. Didn't bother us because we were sitting on the upper floor, but would not have enjoyed sitting in (or near) his path.

Dropped in here earlier this evening - we had no reservation made, but were seated promptly. Restaurant was extremely quiet (recession/midweek?), so it wasn't their fault it was lacking in atmosphere. Had a very nice meal - two mains and some drinks. Waiter was very friendly and service was quick. Great idea the parking voucher - experienced that in another establishment last week. Hopefully it's a trend that will catch on with restaurants. Have to comment on one thing though - the menus were very tatty and a thick black marker had been scratched through some of the items that are obviously no longer available. It doesn't give a good impression, which is a pity, as the meal was very enjoyable. I wouldn't imagine it should cost too much to put right!

Lunch time visit for a party of 10 from work. Very pleasant, bright and cheery restaurant. The place was buzzing. Our orders were taken quickly and the service was very good, prompt and friendly. The lunch time offer of €9.95 is terrific value - everybody was very pleased with the dishes they'd chosen. I had the Tagliatelle Alfredo - absolutely yummy, creamy and delicious. Will definitely be back here to try it out at night time. There's limited parking around the back, but if you're lucky enough to get a space, make sure you ask for your voucher at reception - you then place it on your dash where it can be seen. Having had a great lunch for under a tenner, you don't want to come out to a clamped car!

Victoria Chinese Restaurant

Party of four visited Victoria for a birthday celebration - hadn't been to this restaurant for a long time. Pleased to report the food is as good as ever, actually it was excellent. Pity about the decor though, it needs a thorough overhaul. Black carpet and black ceilings??? ... no no no ... Also, there are four holes in the wall, up towards the ceiling, where a bracket (possibly for a TV or a speaker) was obviously screwed in at one time. It looks bad, and there's no excuse for it. Other than that, no complaints, would go back for a meal again but seriously hope they do something about the decor in the meantime.

It's hard to rate the atmosphere in a restaurant when there's hardly anybody there in the early evening. It's a spacious restaurant with plenty of windows, so it's nice and bright. We went for the early bird menu. Service was quick, staff pleasant. Food wasn't that remarkable, but hunger is good sauce! Last visited the Ming Court about 4 years ago and it was definitely much better back then.

Called in here for a pre-theatre meal. We hadn't booked, but that was no problem - we got great seats at the window and watched the comings and goings on O'Connell Street as we dined. Very good value for two mains, two glasses of wine and two coffees. Service quick and friendly and staff very helpful in explaining the dishes on the menu. You'd almost pass this place by (it's upstairs on the Gresham side of O'Connell Street, just up from Burger King) - the entrance door is rather small, but do venture in, it's well worth it. We'll definitely be back.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK Liffey Valley)

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK Liffey Valley)

Posted on 21 April 2009
Had lunch here today with a friend - nice place, bright and pleasant. Our waiter explained the lunch 'offers' of the day. Yep, you guessed it - it only applied to about 4 of the burgers from their menu, but we weren't interested in any of those 4 burgers. Didn't order chips as the waiter told us the burgers were 'huge' - he wasn't kidding. Food arrived quickly and was tasty enough, but nothing spectacular. The spectacular element was the cost - I do think that €10 (and upwards) is FAR too much for ANY burger, regardless of where it's purchased. It was almost €30 for lunch - that's too expensive for what we got. Luckily we didn't order chips as well, which brings me to another point - nearly €4 for a portion of chips is unacceptable - and they're small portions at that (saw them being served to other tables). Can anyone explain why there are no prices against the food items on the sample menus for GBK on the MenuPage site? (apart from the fact that it might scare people off before they even get going there)

Montys of Kathmandu

We got off the Luas and hit Temple Bar this evening to see if we could find a different type of restaurant. We thought Montys looked interesting. There was a steady stream of diners, which is always good to see. The meal, while tasty, wasn't anything spectacular or very 'different' - it was much the same as other Indian meals we've had. It was rather pricey for two starters, two main courses, two beers, a Diet Coke and two coffees (€71). Can't see us rushing back any time soon - we know there's better value than that around Dublin city.

Golden Jade Restaurant

Called into the Golden Jade on the way home from a sporting event. The restaurant was very cold and seriously lacking in atmosphere. Ordered Yuk Sung for starters and the iceberg lettuce was brought out .... followed about 10 minutes later by the minced pork - we nearly had the lettuce eaten by the time the rest of the dish arrived arrived. We were left waiting that long for our main course we thought they'd forgotten about it and we had to chase it up. The main course was delicious but the service was very bad. That's not acceptable at any time, and there was no excuse for it tonight either - it's not as if they were run off their feet. We arrived before 7 p.m. and by the time we were leaving only two other tables (besides ours) had been occupied. Menu a bit on the pricey side for what's being offered.

Have just spent two and a half hours seated at a window table in this very pleasant restaurant. We watched the Friday night revellers dodge the heavy rain in Dame Street as we enjoyed an excellent four-course meal, with wine. Service was very good and staff were attentive without being intrusive or annoying. Loved the quirky plates the meals were served on - a lovely touch! Very good value for money - definitely worth a return visit.

Had lunch here with approx. 14 work colleagues celebrating a leaving 'do'. We were seated immediately and orders were taken promptly and accurately. Fair play to the waitress I don't know how she managed to get it all correct with such a big group. Food here isn't anything to write home about - it's just a burger bar (with ridiculous prices for burgers, in my opinion). Having said that we were all back in work on time - well done again to that waitress. Full marks for atmosphere ... we created it ourselves!

A little gem on the quays - lovely place to have a meal. Nice atmosphere, pleasant surroundings, beautiful food. The seafood risotto is a must-try! Service very good and waiters friendly - it was lovely to hear them speaking Italian amongst themselves. Profiteroles were off the menu tonight, so we had Tiramisu .... fan-tas-tic! It was feather light and absolutely delicious. Restaurant location is perfect for the Luas and buses, you'd be in and out of town in no time at all. Would definitely recommend it and will go back for a return visit in another while.

This was my first visit to Joels in quite a long time - had become tired of the menu, which had remained the same for years (or so it seemed). Was pleasantly surprised with the changes - we were seated almost immediately, despite it being such a busy time of year, so close to Christmas and all that. The place was buzzing with people, we were served quickly - all our meals were very good. It's great to see that they supply crayons and colouring paper for the kids - bonus points to Joels for that! Portions were very generous and the meal was good value for money. Will go back for another visit soon to see if they keep up the standard.

First time visitor to this restaurant - very impressed. Loved the decor, great lively atmosphere. Had a selection of starters at the table, and a vegetarian lasagna (out of curiosity) for the main course - top class! Service was very good considering there were more than 20 people in the party - general consensus was the food was excellent. Very good value as well - will definitely visit Dunne and Crescenzi again.

Haven't been to this restaurant in over 20 years - since the days when it used to be called the Universal. Meal was unremarkable - my friend had soup to start, but said he'd tasted better. Service wasn't great - we were left waiting rather a long time for our main course. We ordered wine when we got there but the waiter went off and forgot about us. We ended up asking ordering it again from the waitress. Meal was pricey enough considering we didn't have dessert. This restaurant is not on our list of 'favourites' for Chinese dining!
