Wilde - The RestaurantPosted on 10 August 2010
My fiancé and I had dinner here on Saturday night as it was our anniversary and we wanted to do something special - and it really was!
The level of service is great and the food was the best I've tasted, anywhere, ever.
Himself had caesar salad which is made freshly at the table and was really tasty. I had the smoked salmon to start which was a lovely lightly smoked piece of fish.
It was the main courses that really won us over though. My fiancé had been going to order something else when the waiter came out with the cuts of beef to show them to us (I did think they should have asked if either of us were vegetarians before bringing out the tray but better late than never I suppose and as neither of us are no harm done!) - and he immediately decided to have the fillet steak instead. He also ordered a side of colcannon mash which was deliciously creamy.
I had the sea bream which had the tastiest crispest skin, and was served with leek and chorizo - it worked perfectly together.
For dessert I had the creme brulee and he had the chocolate fondant - again we couldn't find any faults.
It is a high end restaurant and so yes the prices are high but we felt we had great value for our money. For 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts, a coffee, two waters, 2 beers and a half bottle of wine it was 135 with service charge. Given the standard of the food we were more than happy!
As a nice touch they gave us a little jar of their steak seasoning so will have to use it next time we're cooking steak at home! All in all I'd recommend it to anyone and we're totally delighted to have booked our wedding there!

Eatzen Chinese RestaurantPosted on 02 December 2009
I went to Eatzen with my mother and it was fantastic. While it is not laid out like a traditional chinese restaurant the room is airy and light and it made me smile when I walked in - it was a really pleasant surprise.
We went for the early bird - I had shredded salt and chilli chicken for starter. It was a large portion, perfectly seasoned and really tasty. My main course was beef in szechuan sauce with fried rice. Again the portions were great sizes and the food was just so tasty.
For me it was the best Chinese food I have ever ever had. It was physically hot - as in steaming hot which is rare for chinese. The sauces had different tastes and textures. Basically I loved it and can't wait to go back with my other half

Hard Rock CafePosted on 18 November 2009
I visited Hard Rock Cafe as a group of 6 on a Monday night. It wasn't particularly busy but then it was a Monday night. Our waiter was excellent - he was chatty, funny, attentive and very knowledgeable about the cocktails and could answer all our questions!
The 5 euro cocktails were excellent value and we took great advantage of them as we were celebrating. I had nachos with chicken for a main course and it was nice apart from the chicken - it was just cooked cubes of chicken put on top, the chicken wasn't cooked in a way as to make it blend with the dish or have any particular flavour. However everything else was lovely and the service was first class.

China SichuanPosted on 17 November 2009
We went for the lunch menu - starter and main course for 15 euro, great value. Unfortunately they then charged 2.50 for a tiny bottle of coke which ruins the bargain a little.
The service was excellent, from the manager to the waiter and waitress who served us.
I had chicken and sweetcorn soup which was fine and then beef and black bean sauce with fried rice. The soup was lovely but the main course was a little disappointing. The beef was quite fatty and all I could really taste was soy sauce. It was served with some broccoli which was not al dente, it was raw. My OH's salmon dish was much nicer and I would recommend it over the beef.
Finally a small point but I don't think the "fried rice" we got was actually fried - it was sticky and fluffy and tasted just like boiled rice so if it was fried it must have been for about three seconds.

Pizza HutPosted on 24 October 2009
A group of 4 of us went in here for lunch. The other 3 had the pizza buffet for 9.99 which to be honest didn't seem like great value to me but I suppose it depends on how hungry you are!
I just ordered a salad bowl and was waiting ages for the waitress to come along with the proper sized bowl. I thought the salad bar was quite good although the cucumbers were huge! I liked that there were different things like pickled onions, seasame seeds, bread sticks etc. there as it made it feel more like a meal.
I've been in here lots of times - I'm not really a fan and would never choose it but if I'm with others who really want to go in I won't kick up a big fuss.. I don't dislike it that much

Milano (Dundrum)Posted on 24 October 2009
I went to Milano's yesterday with a friend and as usual it was a very nice experience. We went in around 7.30 and it was packed - they said about 20 mins for a table but they rang us within 10 mins. We were sitting near the window which didn't have a nice view but that didn't really bother me.
I shared a portion of olives with my friend - nicely seasoned and tasty. They now take the stones out, big improvement!
I had the La Reine pizza - could maybe do with a few more olives on it but otherwise it was tasty. It was a little too soft in the middle - bit diffcult to manoeuvre but I managed it!
Nice buzz in the restaurant and the staff were great - we never had to try too hard to get attention and neither were they hanging over us even though they were busy and under pressure for seats.
We had a voucher for 2 mains for 15 euro so really it was astounding good value!

The StreatPosted on 18 October 2009
I keep going back here and I'm really not sure why except maybe convenience. I went to Streat in Cork and it was gorgeous so always thought this place would be the same but it's really not. There's no atmosphere at all and the prices are ridiculous! Also I really don't see the value of putting a boiled egg in a breakfast panini with sausage and bacon... it just doesn't taste right.
The only positive is the Maud's Ice-Cream... I won't be going again there are better places just a little bit further away

Acapulco RestaurantPosted on 18 October 2009
My boyfriend and I went to Acapulco last night and as usual it didn't disappoint! I always choose here when I get to pick where we go for dinner and it has never let me down. As usual the waitress was very attentive and we didn't have to wait for anything, neither were we rushed. I had the nachos supreme for starter and my OH had the chicken wings. My nachos were delicious but his chicken wings were a revelation! They were different from any I've tasted before which is refreshing as there are so many mediocre chicken wings available. I had a steak burrito which was lovely, if I had to fault it at all it was that the tortilla at the bottom where it had been wrapped under was too thick due to the number of layers but I still managed to eat it all ;) The deep-fried ice cream with butterscotch sauce is gorgeous and the frozen margaritas are huge! My first one was a bit disappointing with some large lumps of ice but apart from that it was great.
Lovely atmosphere too, the place was always full - as soon as a table emptied it filled up again. Possibly turning up the A/C would have been an option as sitting on the little balcony when the heat is rising off the full restaurant floor can get a bit warm

Il FicoPosted on 07 October 2009
I went to Il Fico as part of a large group and the service was excellent - we were not rushed to our table, we were offered drinks in the small waiting area while we waited on the other members of our party. Although I didn't have a starter I tasted the calamari a friend had ordered and I found them a bit over-cookd and rubbery. However the complimentary little basket of garlic pizza bread we got was absolutely delicious!
For main I had the spaghetti with mussels, calamari (cooked much better) and prawns... it was heavenly! It was such a huge portion I couldn't finish it even though I really wanted to because it was delicious.
Next time I go, if I can resist that pasta dish I'll be going for pizza - they were huge and really thin and crispy.
I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was nice. On a par with other restaurants but nothing spectacular or even memorable.
The only downside for me was the singer, I would hve preferred quieter background music as I didn't find she added much to the experience.
I hope to return (very) soon!
