Chez Max

Chez Max

Posted on 12 May 2008
Ooh la la! Last Saturday I had lunch with friends at Chez Max. It was the perfect way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon. The food is simple but delicious, I had the Moules Frites which were so good I couldn't bring myself to share them! There were a good selection of wines by the glass and the staff are all french too which adds to the authenticity.

The perfect place to spend a summer's evening in Wexford! The extensive menu caters for all tastes - from steaks and seafood to pizzas and pastas. On arrival, menus are accompanied by crusty fresh bread and olive oil, the wine list is short but very well planned and the service is infallible. This was once an old creamery and the main dining room is lit by candlelight alone. You can watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen and Pa Pa himself comes to your table to make sure you're having fun! Having said that, the experience is not cheap but is worth a visit for a special treat! Now a warning - the portions are HUGE so feel free to ask for your leftovers to go!

This is a great little find! Fast friendly service and yummy food. Just what you need when you take a break from shopping or a great place to meet! The staff are so friendly and happy to recommend in case you're indecisive like me! I'd highly recommend the chowder and chips!

Best value Early Bird in Dublin Although the menu is limited and rarely changes, it is very well thought out and there is something for everyone. I come here at least once a fortnight for brunch, lunch or dinner and have never been disappointed. The staff are always friendly and so helpful. I was gutted when they removed the passion fruit creme brulee from the menu but the banana sticky toffee pudding is more than a substitute!

This is a gorgeous place to go after a bracing walk around Howth Head. The food is hearty, healthy and the portions, HUGE! The seafood is so fresh and the huge bowls of fish soup and chowder are meals in themselves. Warm, welcoming atmosphere and great for families too. Book a table to avoid disappointment.

The Steps Of Rome (Chatham Court)

The Steps Of Rome (Chatham Court)

Best place to re-fuel. Shopping on Grafton Street, no time to stop and eat, about to collapse? Steps of Rome is the perfect place to grab a delicious slice of fresh pizza and a bottle of water to eat on the go - cheap as chips and SO yummy. I'd highly recommend the Patate - pizza with potato and rosemary....mmmmm...

There's just something so special about this place. I love just calling in for a gorgeous glass of wine and some pate or chips! It's surprisingly unpretentious for a wine bar. The somelliers really know their stuff and never let me down. It's the perfect place for a rainy day pick-me-up or a girls night on the town!

The Unicorn Restaurant

The Unicorn Restaurant

Posted on 29 April 2008
I had my worst ever restaurant experience here. After having booked our table weeks in advance for a 2pm lunch, they said our table wouldn't be ready until 3pm. After finally being seated, the waiter was so painfully rude that we debated whether to even stay or not. Shortly after we had received our starters, our waiter shouted at one of my guests and as fellow diners watched on in shock, we walked out. I've had to return to The Unicorn for a business lunch, and was shocked to find that it is not just the service, but the food that needs to be addressed. Never.again!

Bay Restaurant

Bay Restaurant

Lovely lazy lunch... On driving through Clontarf recently, we decided to stop for lunch at the first place we found. This just happened to be Bay. What a treat! We enjoyed a fantastic 2 course lunch that left us full and satisfied and although we swore we couldn't eat another bite, we couldn't deny ourselves a dessert to share. We stayed for hours just gazing out the windows at passers by and enjoying the jazzy music. Such great value at €55 for two including a few cheeky beers...

Asian Cuisine - ZAO

Asian Cuisine - ZAO

Service with a sigh... On my second visit to Zao we dropped in at at 6.45 for their Early Bird dinner, which ends at 7pm. On arrival, the waiter looked at his watch and sighed before showing us to a table and handing us two dirty laminated menus from which to choose. The early bird menu offers a starter and a main course followed by ice cream and tea or coffee. Portions are half the size of those on the a la carte menu, served on cold plates and ungarnished. Twenty minutes after our main courses had been cleared we had to wave to attract attention before requesting our desserts and coffees, again this request was met with a sigh... I actually felt guilted into leaving a tip.

I can see why Mario's is so popular. We went here for a family birthday last Saturday and had a fantastic meal. We got the big round table and were so well looked after by our gorgeous waitress! The food was such good value and everything was made with the freshest ingredients. I'll be back!

Kinara Restaurant

Kinara Restaurant

I cannot rate Kinara highly enough! I've been here twice - once with a large group of girlfriends and, more recently on a date! On both occasions the food was delicious and the service was the best I've ever experienced. Although it is expensive, if you're a fan of indian food, you won't find better than this in Dublin. The cocktails are top notch too!
