SalamancaPosted on 23 February 2010
I gave this place full marks when I reviewed it last year but sadly the staff are letting it down now. I've been a few times since my last review and the experience you have completely depends on the staff. The food, as ever, was great. I had the steak with potatoes and pepper sauce which was cooked perfectly and the potoes were lovely. My friend had the same. We were waiting for quite a while for our food on this occasion which I've not experienced before and as it was only lunchtime, it was quite quiet. When I asked for the bill, I had 20 minutes left so I decided to have a coffee too and asked for both together. After 10 minutes, my friend had to leave so I held back. 10 minutes later I had to leave so I paid at the counter and found my coffee waiting there for me - the staff are not good at getting the bill and bringing the coffee in a reasonable amount of time. And most frustratingly, they can be seen cleaning tables. I had a sip of my coffee and had to leave - was really disappointed too as they serve lovely coffee.

WagamamaPosted on 23 February 2010
Had the lunch special on Thursday and was a bit disappointed. The dish itself was the seasonal special of turkey breast, beansprouts and green beans with rice. The turkey was lovely but there was only three pieces! And they weren't chunks of turkey, they were carved pieces that had been chopped up small. It could have been for a vegetarian. The rice tasted like it hadn't been washed. The vegetables were really fresh though and the juice was nice. I'm so suprised at the poor standard as I've always been a huge fan of Wagamama.

Doheny and NesbittPosted on 23 February 2010
Wasn't overly impressed. I like pub grub as much as the next person but it just felt a bit flung together for me. Ordered a sandwich on brown bread, it came on white. It was toasted so I didnt notice until the waitress had gone. Nothing else on the plate - just a giant white bread sandwich with ham (admittedly freshly carved), not fully melted cheese and scallion instead of onion. Bit disappointing. Could have done the same myself at home, only better.

Watched the rugby here for Ireland V Italy and had a lovely pub lunch with some really nice wine. We had a selection of starters; chicken wings, garlic bread and chips and garlic mushrooms and it was just perfect grub for watching the game. We ate at the bar which added to the atmosphere for us. The staff are really friendly and the place is lovely and cosy.

Sushi King now closed on Dawson StPosted on 23 February 2010
Ate here on a Friday lunchtime. The only thing I don't like about this place is that they have recently put more tables and chairs in and it's getting really cramped. Other than that the food is great - I had chicken terriyaki and have also recently taken away some of the daily specials which have been really nice. The chicken yellow curry was lovely. The sushi is nice but some of the tempura ones can be a bit too mayonnaisey at times. The best stuff goes early so best to take your lunchbreak before 1pm if possible.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK South Anne Street)Posted on 23 February 2010
Took advantage of the €5 burger deal at lunchtime with a friend from work. The quality was great and the price applies to any burger on the menu. we also shared a bowl of chips on the side which were really nice. The place was really busy but there was a nice buzz. We were however, left waiting for our food for a bit longer than we would have liked and they were very slow with the bill so we had to get up to pay for it ourselves to get back to work on time. I'd still go back though, and maybe go 15 minutes earlier to avoid some of the rush.

Carluccio's CaffePosted on 23 February 2010
Ate here with my friend one Friday after work and was delighted to find they had a set menu. The last time I ate here it had worked out really pricey. We had a bowl of olives to start. They are the nicest olives I've ever had in my life and I would go back for those alone. The garlic bread is to die for and the pasta dishes are just gorgeous. My friend had the pasta with clams and I had the minced Italian sausage with penne. They really do know how to make a bowl of pasta taste beautiful. To finish we had coffee - they have two different types which is great as we had one each and were able to compare. We also had wine with our meal - the house white is lovely and much cheaper than the rest of the wines on the menu. I'd definitely recommend a girlie dinner here.

Burnell Bar and Grill @ Hilton Dublin Airport HotelPosted on 23 February 2010
I had breakfast here for the first time on 23rd Jan with a friend of mine and I have already been back a few times. There is a hot buffet with all the regular fry-up components (although some of them were actually grilled). There were cold meats and smoked salmon, breads, yogurts, fruit, cereal, pastries, juices and bottled water. The chef will cook any type of eggs you like to order and the coffee, which is costa, is all included in the €10 flat price. We sat there for a good hour and when they were closing the kitchen they asked if we would like another cappuccino and if we would like to take it to the bar - all included in the price! The value here continues to impress me. I have also recently been for lunch and had lovely homemade soup as well as fantastic fresh fish and chips on another recent occasion.

The Blueberry Tea RoomPosted on 23 February 2010
I love this little cafe, it's my favourite place to eat in Donegal. It's always really busy but the service is good, the staff are friendly and the quality of the food is consistent. I always have the pasta special which is really nice (although at €10 is pricey enough for a bowl of pasta in a cafe). The chicken goujons are also tasty and they do a great soup and mash for kids. You do have to wait for a table at times but things are moved along very quickly and you're never waiting long.

Really fancied some fish and chips being right beside a fishing port so I go to the Tara Towers, order my battered fish and chips and I get.... Frozen fish. The disappointment was unbelievable. The chips were fine, although also frozen. The fish was unforgivable and for the price we paid it was enough to swear never to go back. The service was good though. The prices they're charging here for frozen food are criminal.

Peking Chef Chinese RestaurantPosted on 23 February 2010
This used to be really nice but since it's changed hands the food has gone downhill. It shows too because the restaurant was empty. The cutlery deserves a mention because it's incredibly heavy and not comfortable to eat your food with. We used chopsticks for the meal as a result. The spring rolls were fairly standard. I had chicken sezchaun which was really gloopy and was like something that came from a jar. My partner had special fried rice which was ok. It's way too expensive for the quality of the food.

This is not great value for money. Absolutely everything is overly deep fried. I had the (overdone) chicken wings which were nothing special and the garlic mushrooms were out of a bag. This is a great little restaurant in the Craft Village. Its in the corner and is often full but if you're willing to wait for a table its well worth it. The menu changes daily as far as I know, although you will get some regulars on there. My boyfriend had the burrito which I tasted. It was gorgeous - really authentic. I had the prawn green curry which was really lovely for a cafe. The coffee is decent and the atmosphere, although a bit cramped is nice a lively. The shops in the craft village make this a nice setting for your lunch.

Went here for my Christmas party and had a lovely time. It was a set menu which had a mixed starter for everyone to share. This was lovely, there was something for everyone and plenty on the plates. I had a red curry for mains. the waiter was visibly unimpressed that I wanted red curry instead of the green on the set menu. It wasn't a problem to change so I though the attitude was unnecessary. I was too full for dessert but everyone elses looked really good.

O'Neills Bar & RestaurantPosted on 10 August 2009
Went here for drinks after work and decided to have dinner there too after seeing plates coming back for other people. It's a carvery style set up but you can also order from a menu for a plate of food such as fish and chips etc. I had the fish which was lovely and the chips were exactly the kind of chips you'd want with a nice big piece of battered fish. Very tasty. Boyfriend had the beef and guiness stew which was actually really really nice (I stole some!) with rice. They load up the plate which makes for a hearty dinner. Great pub grub. Only downside is that the pub is laid out in sort of pockets here and there and doesnt lend itself to a great atmosphere.

Jewel in the Crown (South William Street)Posted on 10 August 2009
Went here for lunch with a friend. This is not the most earth shattering Indian food you'll ever have but its tasty and is cheap and cheerful. Unfortunately the place did smell a bit of damp which didnt turn me off my meal but it doesn't do much for the atmosphere - it pushes it to the side of ever so slightly dingy, especially as there is little or no natural light coming in. That aside, the waiter was friendly and was more than happy to oblige when I asked for my jalfrezi to be extra hot. It didn't disappoint! It's great value for money at €7.50 for a main at lunchtime and the service was quick.

El Bahia Moroccan RestaurantPosted on 10 August 2009
I had always wanted to try this restaurant but put it off due to mixed reviews. They have a number of specials on at the moment so 3 of us said we'd give it a go. I have to say my experience was an enjoyable one. The atmosphere was lovely; you're taken from bustly Dublin to authentic Moroccan surrpundings which I loved. The service was very pleasant and efficient (possibly more attention placed here due to the reviews?). My boyfriend and I wanted lamb tagine which was not on the early bird menu or the August menu but my friend had the special 4 course €14 menu for their 10 year anniversary and enjoyed every mouthful. Our lamb tagines were really tasty although I think they could have done with a little more meat, especially as we ordered from the main menu. Our starter of red peppers with spices was absolutely to die for and I'd go back especially for that. Overall it was a lovely evening with not a hint of the negativity that previous reviewers had encountered. It's only downfall is that the portions are not big enough and need more meat. I would give this place a go or even a second chance if you're interested in a completely different experience.

Went for lunch. Won't be going back. There's a new lunch menu which is soup and a sandwhich for €6.50 or €7.50. Thats good value but when I asked if it was possible to toast the sandwich I was told no - which is ridiculous coming from a place who serves hot food at certain times and who used to do hot lunch. Soup wasnt great - very very watery and really salty. I opted for egg mayonnaise as I couldn't have a toasted sandwich. There was more mayonnaise than bread and egg put together. Really sickening.

The food is great here - recommend the red curry. To be fair, there's no atmosphere as the decor is bland and there's rarely more than 10 people in the place. Normally we are one of three tables occupied. The prices are good though and if you are happy enough with the company you have then its a nice cheap and cheerful place to eat. Not for romantic or social nights out though! Would go back for the food.

Casa Pasta (Howth)Posted on 09 June 2009
We had a bit of a bad experience here - but saying that I would go back. There were a bunch of kids who were unsupervised - they'd been booked in by their football coach and left there when the restaurant staff had been led to believe he woudl be staying with them. It got noisy but the professionalism with which we were dealt was fantastic. The restaruant manager was lovely, gave us the meal on the house and for this I would go back as the mishap was not their fault. The food was not as good as it can be as I think we got the last of the weeks purchases on the €25 menu. However my pasta was very nice. The wine was good and the decor is very inviting and cosy. I will try it again and I'm sure I'll be back here with a better review.

The Restaurant @ Marks and SpencerPosted on 09 June 2009
This was nice. The staff were very friendly but a little run off their feet. This cause slight delays but nothing major. I had the chicken which was well cooked and the tomato and mozarella panini got the thumbs up from my friend. I didn't think there was much atmosphere about the place - could be down to the fact that everything is white and stainless steel. For that reason I wouldn't go back - was a bit like a clinic. But worth a try for the food and you can make up your own mind about the decor. Value wise it was middle of the road - wasnt cheap but didnt break the bank either. I just think there are better places to eat for the same price.

Cafe LeonPosted on 03 February 2009
People rave about this place but I just wasn't mad about it. Possibly because we were led upstairs to a room that didn't feel like part of the restaurant. Very Parisienne which I actually really like but they didn't capture quite so well as we were waiting a very long time for menu's, drinks and then an age for our food. We had two children aged 12 and 8 who got really restless at having to wait so long. Admittedly not the best place for children but coupled with bad service and a dull atmosphere it just wasn't an enjoyable experience. They just don't quite have that Paris theme mastered yet in my opinion.

I didn't like this at all. For such a prominent location I think the food is nowhere near the standard it should be. I went here on a Saturday afternoon about 5pm so they weren't rushed off their feet and still the service was terrible. I had pasta with shellfish which had one empty mussel and one large prawn. I'm not sure what the rest of the shellfish was. The sauce wasn't nice either and it was luke warm. If you've no other choice than to eat here I would choose something extremely basic from the menu. Although not hugely expensive, was way overpriced for what you get.

I've been here hundreds of times and can definitely recommend it if you're looking for really good pub grub but a little more upmarket than usual. In saying that, it's still quite cheap. The sandwiches are made with such effort, they're always very tasty. The nachos are one of my favourites. They're baked fresh so they're still warm on your plate, with spicy mince with jalapeno peppers, melted cheese, sour cream and guacamole if you ask for it! Heaven! The red curry noodles with chicken and shrimp are another favourite of mine. The coffee is good too, they serve Starbucks. Service is very efficient.

This place is good for something a bit different. All the food is on a bar type layout and you choose your own veg and meat to be cooked on the barbeque. It's really cool to watch. Five stars for this place, it's absolutely fantastic. It's really cheap but the food is the best Indian I've ever had. The sauces are made from really fresh ingredients and you never have that layer of oil you can sometimes get with an Indian dish in a lot of restaurants. As far as Eddie Rockets goes, this is one of the better ones. You know what you're getting when you go there and it's not overly unpleasant like some of the other ones in town. It's ok for something to eat when you're on the move. In general I think Eddie Rockets is overpriced though.

Eddie Rockets (Baggot Street)Posted on 29 August 2007
This was an awful experience, went for a few drinks after work and popped over here for a bite to eat. The service was awful, our waitress was really rude and I could swear they put sugar in the garlic sauce. Left me feeling quite ill! WAY too overpriced for what you're getting. The one on Dame street is miles better.

Punjabi By NaturePosted on 29 August 2007
The food here was lovely and the service was great. I went with my boyfriend - there's quite an intimate atmosphere so it's a nice place to go for a romantic meal. I had chicken jalfrezi which was gorgeous, there was nothing left on either of our plates!

Wynns Hotel BarPosted on 29 August 2007
I went here for my grandad's birthday and that's really the only type of occasion I would recommend this place for. It's very old fashioned and quiet. The staff are very old fashioned - it's like taking a step back in time. It would be a good venue for a retirement/70th birthday party as the atmosphere is perfect for an older person. There is a bar beside the restaurant with a fire which is nice. The food is ok, I had the trout. Everything else on the menu was like Sunday dinner.

Old Plaza RestaurantPosted on 29 August 2007
I love this restaurant, I've been to hundreds of Chinese restaurants and I can't enjoy Chinese anymore unless I have it here! The early bird menu is brilliant value, starter, main course and tea/ice cream for 18 euro. I also had a birthday party in one of the rooms at the back of the restaurant. There was a Karaoke machine and the staff were just brilliant - they even sang a few songs with us! I've been here about 50 times and I've never been disappointed.

The Porterhouse (Bray)Posted on 28 August 2007
This place is great - fantastic food, really tasty. Brilliant atmosphere and friendly staff. If you're lucky enough to go on a nice day you can sit outsite with a lovely view of the beach. Just really good pub food. Recommend the chicken salad with avocado and my boyfriend loves the Irish Stew.

Roly's BistroPosted on 28 August 2007
Lunch menu is good value, the food is great although the service is a bit all over the place. It's a nice place to eat but I don't think it quite lives up to the hype. Three course lunch is about 21 euro and the food is really tasty. Ceaser Salad was way too over-dressed though. I had the prawns as a main and they were very good. Desserts are fab.

Jewel in the Crown (Ballsbridge)Posted on 28 August 2007
Brilliant value lunch menu, €2.50 for starter and €7.50 for main! It's a set menu but normally there is something for everyone. Food is tasty and service is efficient. Nice for a cheap lunch away from the office.

Al BoschettoPosted on 28 August 2007
I have often been here for lunch as I work across the road. The staff are very pleasant and very helpful. The food is consistantly good and good value for money. The ceaser salad can be a little over dressed though. The service is quick which is ideal for a one hour lunch break
