40Foot Bar&Grill;Posted on 17 February 2013
I went there yesterday with my other half for Tapas.
We got the chicken wings, calamari, ribs and lamb with Potato Bravas and two drinks.
It's basically 20 for 4 mains and the potato thrown in.
Service was pathetic. I don't think our waiter even spoke to us. He took the order, dropped the food with cutlery (which was disposable wooden cutlery) and left. I wanted desert and tea/ coffee but he lifted the mains without a word and disappeared for the next 40 mins to mooch behind the bar or walk around with his nose in the air.
The food was fairly basic. The wings came in a melted blue cheese sauce which was vile. They were inedible. The lamb was a mince in another pungent sauce, also unfinished. Herself ate the calamari but the sauce with them wasn't great, the ribs were okay. The potato were the nicest part of the meal.
I cannot emphasise how disinterested and appalling the service was. This was on a Saturday afternoon and they treated the customers with total disregard. In the end I went to the counter to pay which also passed without a word from the server.
It was dead in there for a Saturday evening. I can see why. The only thing that was nice was the weather. Sterile sterile place.
I did ask that they might put on the match and was told that they didn't have the channels. The TV was set to the radio. All in all utterly forgettable.
Avoid.

I ate here with my girlfriend on a menupages offer.
There was a another couple that were on the same offer. We were both seated downstairs away from the main restaurant between the kitchen doors and the entrance to the toilets and largely ignored for the night by the waiting staff presumably because it was pre-paid.
The food was outstanding but we waited 40 mins for a starter, 50 mins for our Mains. I had the soup and hte veal which was cooked excellently and my girlfriend had the mushrooms and the sea bass.
We waited a further 50 minutes to order dessert and the waiter brought the wrong desert. They did change it no problem and apologise but we sat down to eat at 8 and didn't get out until well after 11 which is a bit ridiculous. I would advise anyone to not accept a seat downstairs if on a voucher.

My girlfriend and I ate on a voucher here last Friday and it was an excellent experience.
€35 for two three course meals and I had a beer and she had a white wine.
She had the fish cake starters and I had the soup, both were excellent and the brown bread with the soup was lovely.
The steaks were delicious but with only chips as a side it's a bit limited. We got onion rings also and they were very greasy.
Dessert's were apple pie and she had the tiramasu. They were both covered in thick chocolate sause. The chef must have a fondness for it. :)
Overall great value on a voucher. Not sure if it would be great value at full prices to get a steak and some chips but you are paying for the gimmick factor.
The manager must be complimented on his service. He was outstanding.

I had a meal here yesterday, Sunday and was pretty disappointed to say the least.
I popped in with my girlfriend for the second half of the United game, and there was a good few patron's in the bar. I ordered a steak sambo and she had an all day breakfast with two drinks. The match had ended and the bar had quietened down and one of the staff that wasn't or server noticed that we still had nothing in front of us, our drinks had not arrived a half hour later, so she enquired with the kitchen. It appeared our docket had not gone through and they offered to comp our drinks. That was understandable but it appeared they never informed the kitchen and we had to wait a further 40 minutes. The food when it came was basic, the steak was not a nice cut, was half fat. I ordered wedges and got fries, the bread was a chiabatta with a large amount of onion presumably to make up for the lack of meat, the salad was pretty thin and there was not much of it. My partner's toast was burnt.
They did comp the meal when I enquired if someone had informed the kitchen the first time to put a rush on and they admitted they hadn't. We were told the manager was aware of it but we didn't see him. I wouldn't have found the experience too bad except when we we leaving one of the servers remarked sarcastically that she supposed we would not be back. I live in Rathmines, sadly I will, but not for food.
A nice spot for a few cocktails after work. Beautiful decor and I've been looking forward to eating here but sadly for food, over-priced, poor portions and appalling service.
