I love French food and was very pleased with the food here. I'm not a meat eater, so the choice was a bit limited for me but for starter I had Filo Pastry Goat's cheese, and for mains the Wild Mushroom & Emmental tart. It was all delicious, although the mushroom dish was extremely salty. I tasted my husband's onion soup which was lovely and he was very happy with his steak as well. I love the decor, music, lighting etc. The service was excellent, very prompt and friendly. The food is a little on the expensive side I think. The seating is extremely tight, it is quite a squeeze, and you wouldn't want to have a private conversation here! There is a lot more space at their Baggot St. restaurant, which is excellent also. I would definitely return and recommend Chez Max.

Our visit to this restaurant was early on a Friday evening, without a booking. The place was quiet enough, but quite busy (and noisy) by the time we were leaving. The decor was dull, the service just adequate but without warmth. No nice music. All of this of course meant zero ambience. However, the food was good! I had a caprese salad, I did think the tomatoes could've been nicer but it was fine overall. I had turbot for mains and it was perfect. Didn't have dessert. I would go back and give it another go but not for a special occasion or anything!

We tried this place for an early bird on a Thursday evening. The food was nice enough but nothing to rave about. There's a lot of potential I'd say, because it was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle, while remaining right in the city centre. The decor is dated, but that'd be fine if everything else was up to standard. The main thing that let it down for us was the service. There was a waiter and a waitress, both of whom seemed indifferent, it felt like the food wasn't so much served to us, but rather was plonked in front of us, without a smile or any pleasantries. In my opinion they both represented this restaurant very poorly. I must say that while nobody was particularly rude, I've never actually previously had the experience of feeling that our custom was grudgingly accepted! The value of the food was good, but that's pretty pointless, when the atmosphere is so poor. For me, the best thing here was the music, but that's not enough to warrant a return visit or a recommendation to friends.

Pretty average.... Had dinner here early on a Friday evening. It was about 5:30pm and was pretty packed when we got there (and there was a queue when we were leaving). I had a salmon fishcake to start and cannelioni for mains. Both were ok but a little on the bland side. We after we got our mains, we realised we'd lie a side of chips to share, which we requested. We were so impressed when the waitress arrived back with them about a minute later! - but they were cold and had obviously been sitting in the kitchen for ages. I thought that was very poor and it gave me the impression the waitress just didn't care. We didn't bother saying anything, as we hadn't the time, and the place was so busy with tourists. The location is great, but I'd really rather make an effort to go a little further afield for better food & service. It's not a place for a relaxing evening meal, as it's so noisy and busy. I would only go back if I was really stuck!

First time here, passing through Athlone on a Friday afternoon. Decent lunch menu, and I had a goat's cheese dish, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a miserable wet day, but it was still great to have a riverside table, and watch the boats go by! The location is great, and it's quite a big place, so it wasn't a hassle to get a table. Very nice decor. Pleasant, friendly service. I would definitely have lunch here again when passing through Athlone. Hubby was impressed also.

Best all-round restaurant I've been to in a long time. I couldn't find fault with it! My husband and I popped in mid week for the early bird, what great value it was! The kitchen opens at 5:30, but we were there at 5:10 - no problem, we could be seated and have a drink, browse through the menu. To start I had the smoked mackeral pate on toast, and for main course I had a summer chicken & veg pie, both were delicious. I finished with the cheese slate. Obviously, it being so early, it wasn't busy, but it had filled up quite a bit by the time we left. We found the service friendly and attentive. The decor is, to my taste, the best of any restaurant I've ever been to - I loved it! Based on other restaurants we've been to, for the quality of everything, we found the prices much more reasonable. Overall, we both were so impressed, with every detail, and are already making plans to go back, can't wait!

Had a lovely meal here on Sunday evening. The menu was generously varied, and they had a good early bird menu. A la carte is on the expensive side, with starters at €14 and mains at €30. For my starter I opted for Baked Bluebell Falls Organic Goats Cheese in a Curry Crust with Panfried Balsamic Pears, which was an unusual but lovely combination of flavours. For mains I had Pan seared Fillet of John Dory topped with Crispy Potato Crust served on Pan fried Jerusalem Artichoke, Shi-Take Mushroom and Bok Choy. It was very nice but the sauce was extremely salty, which was the only flaw for me. For dessert I had the Iced Hazelnut and Pecanut Parfait served on an Orange and Ginger Salad, which was delicious, as I love nuts! The welcome we received was very warm and friendly, and the service was consistently so, however I found the dining room a little cold and lacking in atmosphere. A little background music, nice lighting would have helped also. Overall, it was a good experience, good food, and I am keen to return to sample more dishes from an interesting menu. (Note to Menupages: the menu is not as shown on this website - but the restaurant's own website has an up to date one)

Had lunch here on Sunday. I love Italian restaurants because I usually have a great selection of vegetarian food. I didn't find a great selection here, so I took ages to choose. I opted for the spinach & ricotta ravioli with butter and sage, which was fine, except for the butter and the sage! The quantity of butter was a heart attack on a plate, and I spent half the time trying to scrape it off the pasta! My pal and I shared a plate of antipasti firstly, which was very good. I tasted the chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream which was yum. Liked the coffee. The decor is nice but it is verging on a bright diner so I wouldn't recommend it for an intimate meal. It is clean and fresh. The service was fine considering it was busy. I'll be back.

Had lunch here on Saturday. When we arrived it wasn't busy and service was good. The waiter who served us unitially was pleasant, but that was the beginning and the end of that really. Staff did drop by the table frequently to top up water, fold napkins etc. which is all very good, but a bit pointless when they have almost sour expressions on their faces. As the place got busier, we were basically abandoned and sat waiting ages for dessert order, bill etc. No consistency in service. Fortunately the food makes up for this. I didn't think much of the lunch selection, but then I'm not a meat eater so I'm limited before I begin. I had the artichoke tart with salad which was quite nice, apart from the few blades of grass I removed from the salad. I tasted some chips which looked to be the skinny, frozen, processed kind, and tasted extremely salty. We also had dessert which was good. The decor is nice, kind of simple French cafe style. It's neither cosy nor cold. The only thing I feel this place lacks is atmosphere, which could easily be sorted if the staff were generally happy looking and friendly as opposed to looking miserable and serious, which surely must put some customers off. I would give it another go, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to.

Had lunch here Thursday. It was quiet enough as you would expect midweek. I was in a group and we all opted for the three course lunch which was great value at €26. The menu offers a great variety, especially for someone like me who isn't a meat eater. I had the smoked salmon starter, the sea bass, and the brioche pudding. We all were very happy with the food, although if I was to be picky I'd note that my coffee only half filled the cup! Service was very good. I really couldn't find fault with anything. I would recommend it and would return.

Excellent Early Bird menu, and the best value of this menu type I've seen in a long time. I had the fishcake to start and salmon with lemon butter sauce for main course. I really enjoyed the food. We shared a plate of nachos which I thought were a bit poor to be honest. I had a glass of house red wine, which was very nice as house wines go. The service was very good, friendly and efficient. The decor is very nice, modern but cosy. The toilets are obviously cleaned regularly, which I always take note of. We will definitely return to try more dishes.

Have dined here quite a few times, and I'm still not sure why, because personally I don't find the menu that appealing and always order the same thing! Popped in here early Tuesday evening (around 6:30), the place is buzzing with after-work diners. I like this place in a middle of the road kind of way. It is popular and usually quite busy, as it was on this occasion. I had never noticed before how noisy the place is - I think because on this visit we were seated right by all the traffic, in the middle of the room. My husband and I shared a tortilla starter which was nice and fresh. For main course I had penne pesto which was nice - it is a decent portion and a starter isn't necessary! The staff are usually fine here and our waitor was friendly enough. Fresh & clean decor. Good place to meet a friend after work or shopping, but not for a quiet romantic meal.

Worst service I've experienced in a long time. Had lunch here on Sunday. The place was about 70% full, and there were 3-4 floor staff that I was aware of. We were waiting about 15 minutes for our order to be taken, by a waitress who seemed robotic and indifferent, no smile, no pleasantries, nothing. I ordered a very simple dish - crostini/bruchetta thing - two pieces of bread, each with a piece of roasted pepper, then goats cheese, then pesto on top - quite basic. So, one piece had a small portion of goats cheese on it, the other had the skin from the end of a goats cheese log - but with no actual cheese on it! Since the cheese was the main ingredient that I was interested in, I decided to call over the waitress to draw her attention to it - she didn't say a word to me - just took the plate out of my hand and walked off! Talk about rude! Then I had to wait another 15 minutes or something while they made me another one, which wasn't necessary - they could have just put some cheese on the dish I had to begin with, but no. Instead they delivered me a new one, when everyone else had finished their food, so I ended up eating alone. Ridiculous. The we were waiting ages again for someone to come back to us to order dessert, for the bill etc. I was so irritated by this, how unprofessional and unfriendly this place was. I am not at all hard to please, but really, if a waitress can't force a smile or make any kind of effort to relate to customers on a basic level, it just makes me wonder what kind of business they're trying to establish. I am left confused about this place, and I would give it one more try to see if the service improves, drastically, because actually, the food was quite good all round. I was so annoyed on this occassion that we decided to do something we've never done before - to not leave a tip.

I've been coming here since I was a child and now I like to take my son here, he loves it - particularly for the desserts. It can get busy Saturday lunchtime obviously, but we arrived for a late lunch (3-ish) and there was no problem getting a table. There is a good variety of fast food here. On this occasion I opted for pizza which was nice, but should come with a health warning regarding the serious amount of cheese loaded onto it! That said, I'd rather have too much than too little, as at least I have the option of scraping some off. Also, they provide proper steak knives woth the pizzas, which is good. My son loves the milkshakes. The service is usually good here, I find it adequate at least.

I often take my son here on a trip to town. I was here on Saturday this time, and was surprised that it wasn't too busy, but it did fill up after a while. Considering this, the staff weren't as attentive as I usually find. The service is usually adequate. The value here is great, especially at lunchtime, and the pizzas are always good. The main reason I will not give 5 stars here is because they can't get such a simple thing right: the popular food here is pizza, yet they only provide blunt butter type knives with which to cut them. For various reasons I need to eat pizza with cutlery, and here I find myself struggling to simply cut the pizza and end up rocking the table back and forth, not to mention being left with tired hands! I might as well have had a spoon as a knife! That is annoying, but otherwise Bad Ass Cafe is great value, family friendly, and won't break the bank.

Very Satisfying, in every way! Had dinner here last night (Thursday). Have been here several times, even though it's well out of our way, we make the extra effort! For starter I had fishcakes, which were very nice, my husband had minestrone soup, which was really good also, a real winter warmer. For mains I had vegetable lasagne which was delicious, but could only eat half because it was a generous portion and I was trying to leave room for dessert - which a white chocolate panacotta, yum! The waitress serving us was lovely, and very efficient. I love the decor, kind of Italian country kitchen feel to it, and the lighting is perfect. We arrived at 7 and there weren't many others about, but wow! - by 8 the place was full, which says it all I think! I have to end by saying the value here is fantastic.

Very pleasant experience! Had dinner at Becketts on Saturday night. First time here, good thing we booked as it did fill up. For my starter I had a goat’s cheese tartlet which was nice, for mains I opted for a vegetarian dish: a stuffed beef tomato which was the only disappointment of the evening - it just wasn't to my liking. For dessert I had a delicious lemon sorbet. The three people with me were very impressed with the food. Also, a major plus was that the staff were locals which, I find wherever we go, often makes for good interaction, and is something we particularly appreciate when we find it. They were very friendly and chatty, which only adds to the experience, and would be the deciding factor in encouraging us to return to this restaurant, as it is a bit out of our way.

Firstly I have to say Indian is not my favourite type of food, only because I can't tolerate spicy food so I'm very limited in the variety of dishes I can try. However, Indian is my husband's favourite so I go along from time to time, and usually end up with chicken Korma, which is very nice. Last night was our first time in Vermillion and it turned out to be a real treat even for me. For starter I had chicken Tikka and for main course I had Murg Shahajahani which is like a more interesting Korma. The food was delicious, and my husband was very impressed also. The decor is modern and very comfortable, with the lighting just right. They have made a special effort with the toilets, which particularly impressed me, because I feel this aspect of a restaurant is often overlooked. The service was spot on, friendly, efficient, without being in your face. A great all round experience for us.

My first time back here after a bad experience next to an obnoxious xmas crowd a couple of years ago who made our evening miserable (the staff left them to it even though we complained). It was a quiet Monday evening so it didn't get very busy. Service was fine. I was very disappointed with the garlic bread which came in the form of a very dry baquette. The pizzas were delicious however, and I have to say I would probably go out of my way to come back here if I was about town and fancied a pizza.

Had lunch here today (Friday). Have eaten here several times and the food is consistently good. A good variety on the menu. The staff are really great here. It is very popular, and I think you always should book for dinner. It was 75% full at lunch time, which is a telling sign; there was a nice buzz there today. Only one flaw with this restaurant, it seems to do great business, yet is in real need of redecorating - particularly the toilets. It is the only thing that lets this restaurant down. Having said that, it wouldn't put me off returning now and then on account of the good food quality and service.

Very pleased Was here with a group on Saturday evening. Firstly, great variety on the menu. From the (30 Euro) set menu I had smoked salmon for my starter which was delicious. For mains I had whole baked sea bass in garlic butter (which is 4 Euro extra) which was cooked just right and without the sauce being too heavy. For dessert I chose Baileys cheesecake, which was lovely with a fluffy texture, however the flavour certainly wasn't Baileys! I think it was lemon but it was great anyway! The service was excellent, they were on the ball at all times, and we were a table of ten - also the place was full, which is a good sign. Very popular for birthday meals it would seem! Everyone was very happy with the food. Highly recommended.

Awful... Had dinner here on a Sunday evening, on the ground floor. It was very quiet custom wise, but not as regards the music which was loud-ish, but what is worse, it ranged from pop to fast dance, which is so bad for any restaurant. It was like eating in a niteclub. The food wasn't good. I had a fishcake which was below average, and for mains I had garlic chicken which was ok, but both dishes were extremely greasy and each came with a side salad that did not look a bit fresh. I did not enjoy the food at all and the atmosphere was worse. My two companions felt exactly the same way. Needless to say, we didn't even consider staying for dessert. The service was fine, but that couldn't make up for everything else that was so poor. Never again.

My husband and I had lunch here on Thursday. We've been here many times for breakfast and lunch, so I cannot comment on dinner. The food and service are great. The only downside for me at lunchtime is a lack of vegetarian or fish dishes, indeed every second dish has chicken in it! Space is lacking, and I wouldn't recommend anyone with buggies or prams to dine here, unless it's a nice day and they want to park outside. You also have to time a trip here, as it gets so busy and you may be spending time standing around in a queue.

Popped in here for dinner yesterday. Bennigans is good for fast food. It's a place you drop into for a bite, not plan an evening out in. This was our second visit here and we found the service very good. We ordered three starters - chicken fajita quesadillas, golden mushrooms, and deep fried mozzarella sticks. They were all nice but let me warn you, we also had main courses that we didn't need - the main courses are normal portion size but the starters are huge!! There were about 10 mushrooms in a portion for example! Next time, we will share the starters! Don't expect anything special here, it is fast food after all. We will return to Bennigans when we fancy this kind of food in Dundrum.

Least favourite Siam Thai that I've been to (out of three). We ate there on Saturday evening. Starter was very nice (chicken satay skewers) but I was disappointed with my sea bass main course which was a bit boring. I don't know if it's a Saturday night thing, but the place was packed and quite noisy and for me it was like dining in a super pub, which is not my idea of a relaxing atmosphere. The service was ok considering how busy it was, but there was no sign of friendliness. I was dining in a group which wasn't too bad but I would've been annoyed if I'd been out for an intimate romantic meal - forget that! I will return to Siam Thai, but only to Dundrum and city centre.

We had an evening meal in a group, so we had to opt for the set menu. Even though you would expect limited choice on a set menu, a few people in our group mentioned that they didn't like the choices available, including me. I had the French onion soup for starter, which was pleasant enough. For mains I had a creamy mushroom tagliatelle which was quite nice. For dessert I had a cinnamon pear with a chocolate mousse thing, and between myself and two others whom I spoke that had chosen this also, nobody liked it. My husband had gravalax salmon which he said was ok, small portion. For main course he had beef which was very good and for dessert creme brulee which was ok. I didn't understand why we had to choose from the set menu because the restaurant was certainly never more than a quarter full, if even that. Generally I would say it was good value, but the food was nothing special, and the lack of choice was a major disappointment all around. The hotel itself is lovely, very comfortable, and the service was very good, and very friendly and helpful.

Can't beat it! My husband and I stopped by here on Monday evening to see if we could get a table. The main area was full but we were accommodated on high stools in the bar area, which we were happy to take. Our waiter couldn't do enough for us, and he was very friendly and efficient. The service was just great, all courses served very promptly. I had satay skewers to start and garlic chicken for my main course. My husband would not normally have fish but he had a cod dish. We were both very pleased. My husband had chosen this restaurant to take his work group to the following day, and the reports coming back were very good, it was a big hit! The new decor is new and fresh, although I didn't see the main dining area properly. The standard of the food in this restaurant is so good I'd have been quite happy even if they hadn't bothered changing it!

Fantastic. We were very excited about Siam Thai coming to Dundrum, as we are locals and have tried every other place around - we also knew what to expect from being to the restaurant in Andrew's St. in town. We weren't disappointed. My family came here for our evening meal after a few hours shopping. I am not great when it comes to Asian food, however, in Siam Thai I am not afraid to be a little adventurous (as I see it!). I had sea bass which was absolutely delicious, although I felt guilty because I couldn't eat all four fillets on my plate! Both my husband and son adored the food. The decor is lovely, very cosy, and feels a step apart from the other places in the town centre so far. I don't normally comment on the bathroom facilities, but I like it when they make an effort, and I love the wallpaper in the ladies! The staff were extremely efficient and pleasant, and we had an all around faultless experience!

Good experience, apart from grumpy looking waitress! We ate here last Thursday evening, for the first time. I like the decor, I found it cosy, and it was a nice kind of place to shelter from the rain! The food was quite good, we thought it was good value. The service was dine, in that the waitress was prompt etc. - however I found her a bit off-putting as she refused to crack even a tiny fake smile, even though I did my best to be friendly to her. It may sound like a small thing, but in my opinion, if you can't manage something as basic as this then you shouldn't be in a hospitality type of job! She wasn't rude, but still it was bad. I would go back again, but to be honest, if I was served by somebody like this again, then it would be my last visit.

We dined here on Sunday evening last. We were staying in the Marriott, and after a few false starts, we decided to walk a bit further to try Poppadom. Two of three of us don't like spicy food, so it was a bit of a risk, however, we found the menu reasonably varied, with a great number of options to choose from. My husband is a huge fan of Indian food so he was more easily pleased, although he would have more experiences of this type of food to compare it with! He was very pleased with his meal. After helpful suggestions from our waitress, I opted for the signature dish, which was chicken pieces with a nut stuffing and I really enjoyed it. Although we are used to comparing meal out with Dublin prices, even so we found excellent value at Poppadom, and found it a good place for an introduction to Indian food. Service was good. We would definitely recommend it and will be back. Also, if you are in Limerick on a Sunday when everything else you try is closed - remember Poppadom!

Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
