Gourmet Burger BistroPosted on 08 May 2010
We visited here as a family of 4 back in March. Looking for somewhere new to eat in the city, we weren't disappointed. The vast range of mouth watering burgers made my choice very difficult. One member of our dinner party is not a fan of burgers so we range in advance and checked with the manager if there was any steak we could order. He reassured us that it was possible to take the sliced steak from their salad and serve it with chips. When this dish came out we were all shocked and in awe at the amount of chips and tender slices of steak that were on the plate. Needless to say, our steak lover was delighted! The rest of us were also delighted with the quality of our burgers although one said he was disappointed that he could not taste the Satay sauce on his lamb burger, although I'm sure if we'd asked more more the staff would not have hesitated to get it. The small ramkin of chips on the side seemed disappointing at first, but as we got towards the end of our meal we soon realised that it would be near impossible to have eaten any more than what was available! All in all a very good meal. Service was good and the cozy settings ensures a great atmosphere. We were also quite amused at the pictures on the wall. I look forward to returning again and making my way down through the menu!! I definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone I meet!

Zings @ The Maryborough House HotelPosted on 12 February 2010
Had never eaten here before. The restaurant was busy, which is a good sign for January. My first thought was that the white table clothes made the table look more like a cheap conference event rather than a contemporary restaurant - which the menu seemed to suggest it was. I ordered the Pork Belly and Prawn starter which was lovely. Unfortunately the beef stir fry had so much soy sauce that it was too salty and I struggled to get through half of it. The Chocloate & Malteaser Moose was a bit disappointing, it was too heavy and I asssumed that the malteasers would be crushed up into the moose, like that of a Malteaser cheesecake but it was presented with 3 malteasers on top. Service was good, a cracked glass was promptly replaced and as the wine we had odered wasn't in stock we were recommended another by the manager. Can be a great restaurant after some minor changes

CornstorePosted on 12 February 2010
Been there twice now and have had the same experience both times. Over priced, bad quality food and service that leaves something to be desired. On the previous occasion a party of 15 ate there, we all ordered our food at the same time but half of the dishes arrived some 30-40 minutes later and 2 of the steaks weren't cooked to the desired temperature. I had the Thai Curry which was satisfactory but not great. Needless to say, none of us will be returning.

Chan's Chinese RestaurantPosted on 12 February 2010
After sampling dishes from the plethora of Chinese restaurants available in Douglas and Cork city, Chans is the one place that comes up trumps every time and has been a firm favourite in my family for years. while the restaurant is lovely and cosy with its large fish tank it is usually quite empty, which is a pity as the staff are friendly and helpful-without bing 'in-your-face' and the food is simply delicious. I hope to see more customers in the restaurant in future

La LavandaPosted on 12 February 2010
after eating here about 3 times I must say that this is mediocre food in a mediocre setting. While the menu is 'funky' and 'modern' a lot can be said for the quality of the food which is often disappointing. While my mind seems to have blocked out some of the dishes that I, my friends and family have tried, I certainly won't be forgetting the dry lasagna I had on my most recent (and hopefully last) visit. Service is ok but not great and there are too many tiny tables squashed in there. While i understand the need to get the most out of floor space, it shouldn't harm the customer's experience.

Barrys of DouglasPosted on 12 February 2010
Have stayed away from eating here for a long time due to mixed reviews-most of which weren't very complimentary. Had lunch over the Christmas and ordered a chicken wrap and chips from the menu. The chicken wrap was surprisingly good as they can easily taste bland. However the chips arrived a good 5 mins before the wrap and were cold when the sandwich arrived. I also noticed that the Turkey on the carvery ran out at only 1.20 and was not replaced which can only be a major disappointment for anyone coming to lunch from then on. All in all, service was alright, food was ok but for the price it's definitely not worth it, either lower the price or get in some decent chefs!
