Ballymaloe HousePosted on 24 February 2013
We went here for Valentines day and were terribly disappointed. In our opinion there was nothing special done for the occasion other than a single heart shaped chocolate at each table setting. The meal was tasty but nothing special or memorable, there are many restaurants around Ireland who are serving better food at more realistic prices. Staff were friendly and attentive. But for €70 for dinner it was expensive.

Siam Thai (Malahide)Posted on 10 October 2012
A group of 6 of us went here for a 2 course early bird at €22 each with tea/coffee.
For the early bird you choose from various sections of the main menu, so lots of choice. Spice levels of the dishes clearly marked and more or less spice can be requested.
Only fault was that there was about 5 minutes between the 1st main course being served and the last which we felt was rather long. Delicious food, freshly prepared and no MSG.
Portion sizes were good and none of us opted for dessert
Live background singer was pleasant
Very good value, friendly service and definitely a place I will revisit.
As it was a busy weekend night, once we’d finished eating & had our coffees, we were politely asked if we’d like to sit at the bar so as they could use the table.

Ristorante Rinuccini RestaurantPosted on 10 October 2012
After reading the reviews and knowing that the restaurant is visited by people when celebrating, I was a bit disappointed. The food was good but nothing special, portions sizes on the small side. There is a good wine selection. Water was not topped up during our meal though the glasses were empty. Service was intermittent and we were left quite a while after we had finished before being able to get our bill.
A couple who arrived shortly after us requested a bottle of champagne as soon as they were being seated. As a result the staff were very attentive.
I had tried to make a reservation earlier in the day but was told they were full. As we were passing we decided to see if there had been a cancellation. They seated us immediately – rather strange! And there were several empty tables
Overall nothing special just average

A seafood platter to delight – generous mix of about 5 varietes of fish & seafood included smoked salmon, mackerel, prawns and crab served with a salad garnish and fresh homemade brown bread. The seafood chowder is full of chunky pieces of fish and more like a stew than a soup – delicious. Food was great, service a bit slow but it was quite busy

Granvilles Bar & RestaurantPosted on 23 August 2012
Dined here with some friends and we had a terrific meal. Starters of stuffed mushrooms and prawn bruschetta were big enough to share. The cod was fresh & flaky, cooked perfectly, the seafood crumble was full of chunky pieces of fish, a tender rib-eye steak cooked exactly as ordered and the chicken supreme moist with a delicious sauce.
A selection of fresh vegetables wase served with the meals. The portions were generous and no dessert was required but we did opt for a fruit crumble between us.
Early Bird & Full bar available
Generous portions, very friendly staff – I wish I lived closer to be able to dine here more often

Food WorksPosted on 12 August 2012
With a reservation for Saturday night, we arrived on time & were seated immediately. We were hoping to order from the set menu. When I asked if we could have that menu I was told abruptly – that finished at 7pm. We had checked it out earlier during the day where it is displayed on the door without any time specifications. Not so friendly a start.
The menu we were given had limited choice of 6 starters and 7 main courses – not the same as the ones listed on the website. Picky eaters or those with dietary restrictions could find it difficult to find suitable food.
The crab starter was tasty as was the pear & feta salad. 3 of the group had hake and the fish portion sizes varied a lot with one being at least 50% bigger than the other 2. A good sized lean sirloin steak was cooked as requested. 2 small dishes of baby potatoes were brought and there were no options to order vegetables as sides.
Desserts Tart tatin & Chocolate terrine desserts were sweet. Although we requested tea & coffee to be brought with the desserts, the ice cream had completely melted before these were brought.
The restaurant was busy & extremely noisy, we had difficulty hearing our conversation at a small table of 4. Service was functional not friendly. So although the food is good, there were too many niggles for us to return.

Cafe SolPosted on 12 August 2012
On a recommendation we visited here for lunch. As well as the menu options there were several specials on offer all explained when we were presented with menus. Most cost EUR10. A bottle of water was brought when they came to take the order. I had the feta quiche served with a generous portion of salad and my partner had a falafel pitta again with salad. We asked for more salad dressing but it was not brought but otherwise the service was fine
The wooden tables chairs & flooring make it rather noisy so best suited for groups and not intimate occassions
The restaurant closes for about late afternoon to get set up for dinner. Small busy restaurant, we didn’t have a reservation for a late lunch but I would think that reservations would be recommended.

The Forge RestaurantPosted on 12 August 2012
We opted for an early bird dinner here and had some terrific food. As well as the listed early bird menu online they have almost as many more available as specials on the night.
I wasn’t sure what to expect with my starter of tian of avocado with garlic and lemon marinated chicken, chilli and lemon grass syrup and rocket salad but it was a delicately spiced & very tasty. The pan fried seatrout, cooked perfectly.
There was monkfish as a special and we asked if it could be cooked differently than what was on offer – no problem – meaty, moist and served with the freshest vegetables.
It is evident through the taste that the freshest produce is used.
Tea/coffee & petit fours served with the set menu at no extra charge – a lovely touch & welcome finish to our meal.
It is obvious why this restaurant has won so many awards.
Pleasant staff, good service, delicious food beautifully presented and competitively priced – we’ll be back.

Key LargoPosted on 12 August 2012
They have a great location overlooking the Nore and we had reserved an outside table. The 2 course menu for EUR10 looked appealing but you get what you pay for. Our salad starters were fine – their fresh home made dressing tasted very much like thousand island. The chicken burrito was an unappetizing, unspicy chicken wrap served without any garnish. The Penne Al Frutti di Mare was poor – there was 1 prawn, some imitation crab and a few other pieces of fish served with too much of a very bland creamy, tomato sauce. The service was functional.
I wouldn’t have thought that Italian & Mexican food would work together on a menu and still don’t.

The Donkey Shed RestaurantPosted on 02 August 2012
Even though we went for a later lunch the restaurant was still fairly full with only 2 tables available and there was steady business throughout our visit with departing tables being cleaned quickly. We were served quickly.
There is a range of salads and sandwiches on offer with plenty of gluten free and vegetarian options available.
My grilled vegetable salad was tasty but very oily, it seemed like the vegetables were fried rather than grilled. It was served with 2 wedges of cheesy garlic bread. When I asked about how the veggies were cooked I was assured they were grilled but that maybe it was the dressing I found oily.
The New Barn salad had a delicious mix of fresh vegetables but again it was swamped in dressing.
Chunky homemade chips were delicious and all portion sizes are generous.
We finished off with some good coffee.
I would return but would request salad dressings on the side.
On site farm shop worth a stop to buy some fruit & veg

Very disappointed with our most recent visit here. We had always enjoyed delicious pizzas, garlic bread and fresh salads. There was always a good friendly atmosphere with the restaurant always being busy and reservations required at weekends.
It has lost its appeal, the restaurant had only one other table occupied during our visit. And even with that service was slow, food just about average and the staff just didn’t seem to care.

KajjalPosted on 26 July 2012
A group of 6 of us went here for a 3 course early bird at €19.95 each.
The early bird consisted of a choice of 3 starters, kebab, vegetarian and prawns, a choice of 3 mains Chicken, Prawns and Lamb served with rice and naan bread and an ice cream dessert.
The tables are well spaced and set with crisp white linen.
We had a reservation & were seated immediately and were brought iced water and poppadoms with a selection of chutneys. All the starters were brought and were delicious – lean meat kebabs and succulent prawns. Each person’s main course was served in its own little lidded pot with side dishes of pilau rice and plenty of naan. Various different spice levels had been requested and we were all happy with the level of spiciness of our meals. My chicken dish had large chunks of chicken breast in a very tasty sauce.
Courses were served in a timely manner, cleared promptly once finished and we were left to chat without feeling rushed once we’d finished
Very good value, friendly service and definitely a place I will revisit.
Even though it was a midweek night, the place was very busy so a reservation would be recommended. Full menu and take away also available.

La CavernaPosted on 17 July 2012
Went for an early bird dinner here and it was good. We arrived a little late so let the waiter know we were going to the theatre and were in a hurry so to expediate the meal we ordered our starters & wine. We shared starters of crispy calamari and garlic bread. The lamb shank was served on a bed of mash covered in sauce, it was well cooked, tasty though the red wine sauce lacked flavour. The seafood medley pasta was delicately flavoured though there wasn’t much seafood in it. The brownie for dessert had a cake consistency and was ruined by heating in a microwave. The apple pie wasn’t as good as Moms.
Portion sizes were good, water & wine glasses were topped up at regular intervals, the service was friendly & speedy. I thought the early bird was reasonably priced. I would like to return when I wasn’t so rushed.
There is another dining area downstairs which I think would be great for private functions.

The Dolphin Hotel And RestaurantPosted on 11 July 2012
We had a meal included in our B&B stay and were looking forward to it as there are several Georgina Campbell & BIM Seafood circle plaques on the wall.
The restaurant had only 1 other diner when we arrived. Our order was taken promptly and there was friendly service throughout the meal, but the meal itself was very disappointing. The wine arrived already open (screw top). The goats cheese starter was tasty, the prawns had a lot of batter. The steak was served on a bed of onion rings, mushrooms and pepper sauce with chips & side salad accompaniment – the steak was requested as medium but was well done. The sea bream meal consisted of 2 pieces of fish on a bed of spinach, the accompanying white wine sauce was served in a ramekin and arrived with a skin on it – it was tasteless and lumpy. The ‘creamy mashed potatoes & vegetables’ accompanied the fish were awful – the mash was grey, not creamy and tasted like it had been made some days before and re-heated, the vegetables were supposed to be ratatouille consisted of overcooked soggy carrots, parsnips, peppers, courgettes and aubergines served in a dish that was too hot to touch. Coffee was served before dessert and the sticky toffee pudding dessert was average.
Portion sizes were decent and service friendly but really I don’t understand how it could have won so many accolades. During our visit only 4 other diners ate in the restaurant.

Saagar Indian RestaurantPosted on 24 June 2012
When we arrived it was quiet but had filled by the time we were leaving. We were seated quickly and given menus. As we were using a voucher we verified from which menu we could order but it took 15 minutes before our order was taken. However after that everything was served in a timely manner with water being topped up regularly. Poppadums & dips were brought along with the wine, we shared tasty starters of vegetable samosas & chicken tikka.
When ordering the main courses we ensured the waiter knew we liked spicy food. The main course dishes of Chicken Madras and Lamb Jalfrezi were cooked to the agreed spice level and very flavoursome.
Fresh coffee finished off the meal nicely.
Manager was circulating, chatting with diners and checked on us during the meal
Generous portion sizes and I was able to get my leftovers in a box to bring home.
Menupages voucher was very good value.

TGI Friday (Blanchardstown)Posted on 24 June 2012
A busy Saturday evening, we sat at the bar for a few minutes before being seated. The Mojito I ordered was very expensive especially as I couldn’t taste any rum – the glass was filled with an awful lot of crushed ice. They offer a 2 course menu for EUR15 which is good value. The bruschetta starter was OK. The Jack Daniels chicken was good but the cheeseburger very disappointing – bland.
Pleasant staff and timely service but overall expensive for a burger joint

Hadn’t been here for a while and won’t be in a hurry to return. The food & prices are average, the service very mixed. My main course was served & they had forgotten about my starter but still tried to charge me for it. Most of the food is processed/pre packaged, the chips were cold and portion sizes on the meager side. My partner requested his steak medium – it was served extremely well done and barely edible.
Coffee was weak and luke warm

Went here for a girlie group night out – 12 women and would definitely recommend this for a group. The staff explained all the specials & set menus clearly before we ordered. Orders taken and even with the variations requested everything was served as requested and brought to the right person. Several staff were organized to bring all our meals together which is so nice with a group – meant no one was waiting.
All enjoyed the food, standard Italian fayre served well.
Water jugs were brought to the table and filled as required.
They allowed for separate payments with different cards. The service couldn’t have been better & I look forward to returning

Brasserie Sixty6Posted on 22 April 2012
Had heard so many good things about this restaurant that I didn't believe that it would live up to the hype.
Arriving on a Saturday without a reservation, we were greeted in a friendly manner and told we could have a table till 8pm.
Wine & bread were served quickly but service after that was a little bit slow. A table beside us who had arrived & ordered after us were served before us
Fresh creamy dressing on my Caesar salad topped with Parmesan shavings. Instead of croutons, there were slices of bread like Melba toasts. The meatballs were in a rich tomato sauce. We had requested a few changes to the ordered dishes, which were taken into consideration and our meals served accordingly. When the main courses were presented we were not asked if we wanted any condiments, 3 servers went by before I could catch the attention of one to get a pepper mill.
Tender, thick pork chop with good accompaniments. Pasta was tasty though seemed to lack the pine nuts.
Portion sizes were adequate

Portion sizes is adequate for lunch and you won't feel too full afterwards.
We were the only customers there so no atmosphere really, but there were some workmen drilling and doing noisy work which was not pleasant.

We were given menus quickly but after that service was rather slow.
Being by the sea and at a fishing port we expected fresh fish. One of the specials was crumbed haddock – it had a thick batter/crumb coating and the fish did not taste fresh. Vegetables were good and portion sizes generous. Tea/coffee was served before dessert.
Banoffee pie was the worst I’ve ever had, it had a dry pastry with a very thin sliver of toffee with slices of fresh banana. Crumble of the day was fruity but served with lumpy custard. We were not checked on during the main course
There were several small children running around noisily.

Citron @ Fitzwilliam HotelPosted on 16 January 2012
What a disappointment. After reading the reviews here I was looking forward to a good meal but it really didn’t live up to it. The starter of blue cheese and pear consisted of tinned pear and a quenelle of blue cheese mixed with cram cheese, the pork rillette served in a jar but contained so much fat it was inedible. The salmon au poivre had a mere shaking of pepper on it and was the greasiest salmon I’ve ever had. The beef cheek was tender. There was a lack of vegetables and no condiments offered not even salt & pepper on the tables.
Blasts of cold air coming up from the open lobby doors.
Staff were attentive but I wouldn’t return. I think the only other diners in the restaurant that evening were on a package with dinner included as part of their stay

Small cosy restaurant, though tables are very close together.
We ordered garlic bread and pizzas. The garlic bread was generous slices with plenty of real garlic.
The pizzas again were of a generous size but the taste was disappointing. The bases though thin were quite doughy. One was supposed to have Prawns & smoked salmon – there were chunks of fresh salmon on it. There was too much cheese and the sauce had little flavour.
Staff were attentive when we arrived though no one checked on us during our meal.
Unlikely to return

Had a weekend lunch here recently and have to say it was only OK. The food was tasty and the set lunch offer appears to be a good value but extras add up quickly. The seafood paella was tomato based and not as described on the menu. Even though there was plenty of tables we were put in a corner beside the toilets with an extra place setting. Service was slow and meal portions quite small, we had various drinks including water but had to ask for them to be topped up. A basket of bread would have been nice but we weren't given any even though I saw it on other tables. Nobody checked on us during the meal and after the main course, empty, dirty plates were left sitting for about 15 minutes. I wouldn’t be in a hurry back.

We started with prawn and crayfish salad with main courses of baked sea bass and salmon and due to the good sized portions, we shared a dessert of rhubarb crumble. The fish was beautifully cooked, flaky and delicious. Most of the vegetables served are grown on their own allotment.
There is a good wine selection as well as a full bar.

On entering this restaurant, it didn’t look or give an atmosphere of anything special but looks can be deceiving.
Service was friendly and attentive.
The wine we selected wasn’t available and a very suitable alternate was brought.
Food portions are very generous. We like spicy food and we got flavoursome spiced Indian. The shared starter platter could feed 2-3 people easily. The Jalrezi excellent.
We shared one portion of rice and one naan and it was more than enough.
While finishing our wine after the meal, we were brought a complimentary drink – Tia Maria, Bailey’s and cream looking like a pint of Guinness in a shot glass :) and a plate of fresh cut fruit.
It was steadily busy throughout our visit with both take away and sit down diners.

Germaines of BaltinglassPosted on 17 May 2011
I always try to find something good in every situation, but unfortunately there was nothing good about my experience at Germaine’s recently.
It was busy with a lot of families celebrating communions, so there were many young noisy children running around.
It is an old fashioned carvery, with fayre options and portion sizes that are no doubt adding to the increasing overweight problem in this country.
Turkey & Ham was on offer, I asked for turkey alone but was told they couldn’t separate it. As I don’t red meat. There was some soggy southern fried chicken and very greasy salmon available – neither was appealing looking. No vegetarian options other than a plate of vegetables. I opted for veggies and got a plate with 3 scoops mash potatoes, some carrots and cabbage for Eur6. My partner had the same with some well cooked beef which looked very dry but he said tasted fine.
There is a menu on the tables with offering ‘homemade’ desserts which is served by the waitresses. We opted for deep dish apple pie. It took 15 minutes to arrive. It was commercially made, filled with artificial apples and served with strawberry ice cream.
I thought that the Celtic Tiger had gotten rid of this type of food – I guess not.
There are no hooks in the ladies toilets on which to hang a bag/coat.

Mix Asian Fusion RestaurantPosted on 27 April 2011
Good range of Chinese & Indian food here both to eat in & takeaway. Also the option of asking for something that may not be on the menu. Very busy at weekends when reservations are recommended.
Food quality is good and always seems freshly prepared. Varying spice/hotness can be requested
Attentive friendly service, pleasant atmosphere and very family friendly.

The Tower Bar & BistroPosted on 27 April 2011
Great place to stop off for a bite after a walk on the beautiful beach an you can still look out at the Irish Sea. Outdoor seating available (weather permitting).
A varied menu with lots of daily specials & friendly service. My only complaint would be that my companion is coeliac and when she asked if there was flour/wheat in a few of the menu items (soup, casserole) that waiter didn’t seem to know but after some prompting did ask in the kitchen.

Stoop Your HeadPosted on 27 April 2011
Went here on a midweek night around 9.30pm and the place was full. We even had to wait a few minutes for a seat – popular venue. The set menu offers a great variety for a reasonable price.
Portion sizes were generous and there were 2 large pieces of fresh battered fish with the fish & chips.
Atmosphere was cozy, service friendly and attentive and I’ll definitely be back for more

The Living Room at The Residents HotelPosted on 27 April 2011
We were welcomed by the barman as we entered and the service he gave us was friendly, bu that really was the best part of our visit.
I have to say that the menu is very lacking, it is a pub menu from the 1980s – steaks, burgers, chicken (Kiev, Maryland) and the only fish on offer is fish & chips. All the food was processed with only a salad garnish that seemed fresh. There seemed to be little difference between the pieces of chicken that were served as Maryland and Kiev – crumbed, fried and cut. Very little garlic on the Kiev. Lots of batter on the fish, but only a thin piece of fish inside.
Baileys cheesecake was served with ice cream (no cream!), it was creamy but did not taste of Baileys.
Not great value for less than average quality food EUR80 for 2 starters, 4 mains, 2 desserts and 2 glasses wine.
Wouldn’t be in a hurry back until the menu is greatly improved.
During a visit to the Ladies room, I noticed hat some of the toilets were without toilet seats and those with seats were broken.

Gourmet Food Parlour BallyboughalPosted on 26 April 2011
This is a great little find of a café. Large variety of sandwiches, salads, pastries. Dined here with a coeliac friend last week and she was delighted that gluten free bread was available. Friendly staff & fresh food. Service is leisurely but not slow, this is a place to linger and enjoy the meal. Outside tables great for sunny days.
Would love to see the Grange open for a single seating set evening meal

The Oar HousePosted on 26 April 2011
Great little restaurant, fresh seafood, friendly staff. Had a late lunch there with 2 others, one was on a very restricted diet and they accommodated her wonderfully without making her feel like her special requested were an issue. We had hot bowls of creamy chowder served with bread and grilled tiger prawns with steamed veggies. All fresh and nicely presented.
I particularly liked when they asked of we would like water they offered “..sparkling, still or tap”. The server checked on us regularly.
