AnandaPosted on 06 April 2012
I had a meal in this restaurant on 18th March. Wow, it is fantastic. From the moment we walked through the door until we left everything was perfect. The decor is beautiful and we found the staff to be very polite and professional. We love Indian cuisine but most Indian restaurants in Dublin have almost identical menus which can be a bit boring. Ananda has a completely unique menu and also do meat and vegetarian thaalis (a complete meal with a selection of different dishes, rice and bread). There is a nice area to sit and have a pre dinner cocktail whilst studying the menu and wine list. There were three of us and we all opted for vegetarian or vegan choices. Each dish was wonderful. I had the most amazing green apple sorbet for dessert. Being vegan, it made a very pleasant change for me that the staff understood the term and advised me, unprompted, when I ordered a bread that contained a dairy product. I can’t wait for another occasion to go back to Ananda!

Roly Saul The RestaurantPosted on 18 March 2012
I was really disappointed with my meal at this restaurant. When I arrived I checked to make sure they could cater for my vegan diet and was told that all food was cooked to order so there would be no problem. When it came to ordering I was left completely embarrassed. There was nothing vegan on the menu (which is fine) but there was not even a vegetarian option on the starter menu. I told the waiter to leave my meal entirely up to the chef. He returned to us a few minutes later, informed me that I could have a plate of vegetables. The last time I was presented with a plate of vegetables as the vegetarian option was back in the 1980’s! To add insult to injury the waiter then asked if I would like my food when the rest of the table were having their starters or when they were having their main courses. I was shocked, as were the rest of our party. He was a bit taken aback when I said that I would like both a starter and a main course like the other diners at the table. In the end I suggested a salad for my starter. Bottom line - I will never go back to this restaurant. What chefs and restaurant owners need to understand is that vegetarians and vegans have families and friends. When selecting a restaurant of family occasions or celebrations the food requirements of the vegetarians and vegans are taken into account. By not catering properly for vegetarians and vegans restaurants are excluding lots of potential bookings.
