The National Gallery Cafe & Restaurant

The National Gallery Cafe & Restaurant

Posted on 22 April 2012
The Gallery cafe is always busy, so I tend to go mid-day, pretty much once a week, every week. The reason I go so often is the soup. The soup is always incredibly tasty! I have never gotten a bowl that I didn't think was delicious, but here's a tip for soup lovers in Dublin- if you happen to arrive on a day they are offering vegetable soup, tell them to hold the croutons, because they will put them on automatically, and even if you are crouton-mad, you will NOT be mad about these croutons. If they are not blisteringly hot and searing your taste buds off, they quite frankly, taste quite horrible. I am an ardent fan of the butternut squash soup, and you will receive a delicious roll AND a slice of soda bread- good value for under a fiver. However, the rest of their menu is not great value. The quiche and salads are particularly overpriced.

Yamamori Noodles

Yamamori Noodles

Posted on 22 April 2012
Visited Yamamori Noodles on Georges St. for lunch with my sister. I ordered the Vegetarian Bento Box which was extremely delicious, particularly the sweet potato tempura and the pickled sushi rolls. The Bento boxes are excellent value for the variety they offer, along with a filling bowl of brown rice and miso soup, I was left feeling pretty spoiled. My sister ordered the "lunch" Bento, which included some very tasty fish, in particular, some crispy crab drizzled lightly in a very moreish sauce. The service was prompt and I especially liked how each customer is presented with complimentary green tea whilst reading the menus. I would not hesitate to come here again and try some other items on their very large and varied menu!

The Bloody Stream

The Bloody Stream

Posted on 10 January 2011
It was great to get in out of the cold and to be greeted by the warmth of a blazing fire. The Bloody Stream was extremely busy at lunch time on Sunday, we were waiting about 10 minutes for a table. My companions all ordered the fish and chips, which comes served in newspaper- something we are convinced contributes to good flavour! I ordered mussels and a side of chips. It took a good few mins for my mussels to arrive after everyone was served theirs, which meant I was still eating while everyone had long finished. However the food tasted great, especially the chips! The mussels were good value, but we felt the fish and chip platter was a bit overpriced at around €15 each, but we know they do the same dish at a special €9.95 each on occassion because we availed of that before...hence the disappointment at the standard price! Overall we had a grand time and we likely would go back.

Cornucopia Whole Food and Vegetarian Restaurant

Cornucopia Whole Food and Vegetarian Restaurant

Posted on 23 February 2009
I absolutely adore Cornucopia's yummy veggie food. It is so fresh and flavoursome. Last sitting I had a very tasty pasta bake, with a zingy shoot salad. The price was good, the service was also good. I would eat my lunch in here every day if recession permitted but then there would probably be something else preventing me from returning too quickly... The fact that it seems to be always packed to the gills isn't exactly the problem...that is a testament tot he quality of the food. It is the resentment that seems to emanate from it's customers in general when one is forced to sit with them because it is so cramped. Or it's some frazzled bohemian lady shoving oneself out of the way to get to the spare seat with a breathing room. Or it's how when one gets up to get a drink of water and someone nosedives into your seat, in spite of belongings and an uneaten plate of food clearly indicating that yes, this place is already taken. And it's the laser beams that shoot from their eyes trying to vaporise the perhaps overly polite person trying to tell them they will be finished soon, but not yet, that prevents me from returning here as regularly as I might. Love the food...but the atmosphere summons up some dread in me.

Indian Ocean Dublin

Indian Ocean Dublin

Posted on 30 March 2008
Could hardly believe my eyes when confronted with the lunch menu for Indian Ocean on Montague Street - a mere €9.99 for a starter, main and a sundry. The limited choice for the lunch menu doesn't matter theres a style to suit every taste. I sampled the Dali Bora for my starter and luxuriated in the delicately spicy taste of Aloo Palak for my main. It was all delicious and the portions were not too tough to get through. My partner had spicy chicken to start, and lamb for his main - it was very much to his satisfaction. I would definitely come here again as somewhere a little more special for lunch time- you can't got wrong with the lunch menu price considering you could get a salad and a bottle of water for almost the same price elsewhere. I would advise people get there early for lunch, as this place fills up very quickly indeed thanks to the high standard and good prices.

Oscar Taylor Restaurant

Oscar Taylor Restaurant

Have eaten here five or six times, and it has been fantastic every time. My partner usually orders the French onion soup for starters while I occasionally have the crab bake. Both are very tasty. For mains he usually has the venison cooked medium rare, which is always divine, as is the stuffed pork Clonakilty in a pastry casing I usually order. Desserts are always a generous and worthy affair.

Govindas (Merrion Row)

Govindas (Merrion Row)

Posted on 21 May 2007
The delight that is Govinda's was only discovered two weeks ago by my colleague and I- we had been feeling quite jaded with the options available around that area for lunchtime. We ordered the veggie burger with subji, or vegetable selection. We were not expecting the enormous plate of goodness that arrived 10 minutes later. They have a great vegetarian selection available and of particularly good value is the Govinda special take-out, for 6.25 you can freely pick and mix you way through several vegetarian dishes. There are also some tasty desserts available. But what was nicely surprising was the warm and friendly service offered by a particular woman there. She always greets you with a smile and helpfully explains everything for the novice. We will return here regularly for lunch.

El Bahia Moroccan Restaurant

El Bahia Moroccan Restaurant

Posted on 21 May 2007
I have eaten here with my partner on three occasions. We adore the decor and the have always found the staff to be very pleasant! We usually have starters, the kobiza is especially delicious. Some sausage style dish is sometimes order by himself and he declares it to be really tasty. Once they did not have what was ordered- rabbit. But this was had on the following occasions and was absolutely gorgeous, cooked in sultanas and sweet spices, really nice. I usually have some lamb tajine dish with cous cous, as the latter soaks up the juices and is really delicious. The lamb has always been very tender and seems to melt in the mouth. This dish is complimented with the nice cheapish Rioja on the menu. We have not indulged in the desserts, but it was a staff member’s birthday on one of the nights we ate there and they kindly gave us some of his birthday cake! The Moroccan coffee is always the highlight for me, a dark and heady mixture of sweetness and spice that leaves one feeling very happy and relaxed!

Eddie Rockets (Parnell Centre)

Eddie Rockets (Parnell Centre)

Posted on 21 May 2007
I come here regularly with my friend before we go to the pictures and I usually look forward to it. There has never been anything wrong with the food we have ordered, though I would say Eddie Rockets (Empty Pockets) is not very good value, considering it is essentially a burger and chips menu. Still, I can never resist a good chocolate milkshake; the taste has never changed in any Rockets restaurant over the past few years. The veggie burger is very tasty.

Captain America's Cookhouse And Bar

Captain America's Cookhouse And Bar

Posted on 21 May 2007
Though it is often chaotic and busy it is sometimes nice to wait on your table in Captain A's and enjoy a cocktail. We attended this place regularly to the point where the staff would recognise us and seat us more quickly than what is usual. They also occasionally gave us discounts for being good customers, which was incredibly nice and made the experience more enjoyable. The staff were always efficient and very friendly. I would tend to order lasagne, vegetable or beef, the latter being decidedly heavier to bear. Then I discovered the veggie burger- yummy! My partner would order the very expensive steaks, medium rare, but they nearly always arrived fully cooked. Like most American style eateries, the portions are massive and it would be hard to fit in starters and deserts. The nachos are a dinner on their own. Desserts are very rich, especially the chocolate cake, you might regret the decision to order it!

Hard Rock Cafe

Hard Rock Cafe

Posted on 21 May 2007
We have eaten in Hard Rock Cafe several times. The most enjoyable aspect of this place is the cocktails, refreshing and delicious. The food is average, and one will receive an enormous plate of whatever is ordered. It is too much hard work to eat a starter and desert too, the former being enough for a dinner on its own and the latter being usually very luscious and heavy. You will leave Hard Rock Cafe absolutely stuffed- as far as American eateries go; this one is a little more than ok.
