Plan B offers simple, well cooked fresh Italian food & wine in a warm, casual atmosphere. Really like the place. Prices are quite reasonable too. This is a popular, charming local spot where you will continue to return to.

Ananda

Ananda

Don’t be put off by the entrance to Ananda, the experience is very worth while. The dining room is beautifully decorated. We went for the tasting menus – start anise and cinnamon (€55 & €44 respectively) with a bottle of dry white Graves. The wine list contains some nice wines at reasonable prices. Now down to the food, the amuse bouse certainly gave us a flavour of what was to come. Starters were truly amazing – an individual tasting of fish, lamb, duck and tiger prawn cooked with various spices and sauces was sensational. My mains included four dishes of lamb, cottage cheese, prawn and chicken cooked with an array of spices and included Bombay potatoes, spinach saag, pilau rice and four types of naan. Exceptional. All food was very well presented and service is very informative, professional & pleasant. One of my nicest & memorable dining experiences in Dublin.

Went here for lunch recently on a recommendation, having passed it by foot over a hundred times. Interior is quiet stylish Lunch deal at €14.50 is good value. Service is friendly and professional. My starter of tandoori chicken and mains of lamb madras with naan was very good and not too oily. Overall a very good experience. Look forward to going back.

Koishi

Koishi

It’s not the first time I’ve been to Koishi and each time I’ve been impressed. Went here for lunch on a Monday. The lunch special is good value at €14.50 for a starter and main. Everything about Koishi comes across as traditional. Salmon & tuna sashimi was very good. The chicken ramen for mains was very good also – full of miso flavour, filling yet light. Service here is welcoming and friendly. I’m looking forward to trying my next dish soon.

Cava Spanish Restaurant & Tapas Bar

Cava Spanish Restaurant & Tapas Bar

Posted on 08 December 2008
Was visiting some friends who had made a reservation in Cava. Nice atmosphere in pleasant surroundings. The tapas selection is good if a bit pricey. We decided on an assortment of tapas to start – all well received. I had the venison special which was good if a little overcooked. I was surprised that the special was the most expensive dish on the menu though. Wines were good and service was helpful and pleasant. All in all would recommend.

l'Ecrivain Restaurant

l'Ecrivain Restaurant

We arrived for our 8.30 reservation, took a seat in the bar at the piano where we were served our drinks. Menus were presented and after a short time our orders taken. Prices seem to be more reasonable than other Michelin starred city establishments. Our table on the mezzanine was large. Service was excellent and food was very good indeed. The wine list is well chosen. My starter of seared rare tuna was very tasty and my venison for mains was also good. My wife had the goats cheese to start and Angus beef fillet for mains – both well received. All dishes were beautifully presented. We finished with the chocolate tasting plate and cheese board. Overall we had a very nice evening. L'Ecrivain is a special occasion place, it is expensive but an experience to savour.

Lisa's Trattoria

Lisa's Trattoria

You could be in Italy in this restaurant. There’s no questioning the authenticity of the food and our waiter was very attentive and professional. Lisa’s seems to have a regular Clientele and the menu is good value for money. Would I go back? Not sure - there’s something about Lisa’s that I can’t quiet put my finger on.

The Winding Stair Restaurant

The Winding Stair Restaurant

I had lunch here on a Monday lunchtime. The charming dining room was full of both people and atmosphere. Our table of four had a nice view over the ha’penny bridge. Service was professional and friendly. Food was very good. My duck fillet and confit leg with braised red cabbage was full of flavour. However, I do think the lunch menu is expensive (there is no difference with the evening dinner prices), but as the dining room was full it certainly isn’t putting the punters off. Overall very enjoyable and would definitely recommend.

Eden

Eden

Posted on 23 September 2008
Eden continues to impress. We were fortunate to get a late reservation for four on the terrace on this fine Saturday evening, the Hard Working Class Heroes festival was on in Meeting House Sq and the noise may have put some people off using the terrace. Most of the music was good so it was a bonus. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and provided excellent service. Our food was very enjoyable. I had the grilled asparagus with mushroom duxelle & hollandaise – the parmesan tuille was a little overdone. My wife had the smokies – an Eden stable, which she enjoyed. For mains, one friend & I had the fillet steak with béarnaise & chips... beautiful. The rare & medium rare steaks were cooked faultlessly. My wife had the goat’s cheese salad as a main and her sister had the catch of the day – both well received. The wine list is varied and provides good value for money. Four espresso martinis rounded the night off nicely. Looking forward to the next visit.

Roly's Bistro

Roly's Bistro

Posted on 17 September 2008
Visited on a buzzing Saturday evening in late August. Met with a certain degree of arrogance at the front desk and shown to some unimpressive seats in the Roly’s café section. However, the food was excellent and the ambiance enjoyable. We had the starter of chicken liver parfait and the Cashel Blue rocket salad. For mains my loin of milk fed veal was cooked to perfection – a real delight. The beer battered fish & chips was very well received, the batter light & crispy. You certainly get plenty extras of veg & potatoes – we actually sent some back as they weren’t required. Service was inconsistent which is a real pity. Also, even though service is included the waiter who brought our asked if I wanted to add a gratuity to our bill which I felt inappropriate. I felt that we did get value for money. Altogether, we had an enjoyable night however some tuning of service is required.

Yamamori Sushi

Yamamori Sushi

Eat here frequently enough. There is always a good buzz in the place - even early in the week. Sushi & Sashimi is quiet good for Dublin, though I've tasted nicer (Michie Sushi / Sushi King). Good selection of Asian beers. Good service although difficult to catch some one's eye once the bill has been presented (universal problem)! Very good value for money - can eat good sushi & sashimi here reasonably inexpensively. Like the open kitchen and spacious room – although tables can be a little tight at time. All round, would definitely recommend to a friend.

ely winebar

Good atmosphere but food disappointed. A good buzz for a Tuesday night. There is no question regarding the wine selection. Service was attentive and relaxed. The food, however, was very disappointing. My duck salad starter was bland. A friend did enjoy the carpaccio starter. My main of scallops was completely over cooked and not enjoyable. Tried some of another friends lamb and it did not impress. The menu is pricey and represents poor value for money due to the standard of the food. Would I eat there again – probably not. Would I return for a glass of wine – yes.

Koh

Popped in early on a Thursday evening without a reservation, no problem getting a table. Impressive bar with relaxed, professional service. Nicely decorated main dining room. We were a table of two, the tables either side of us where empty but I can imagine it could get a little tight. Starter of scallops (daily special) was well presented and perfectly cooked. My friend had the fish cakes – very flavoursome. My prawn phad thai was good, well flavoured with beautifully plump prawns. My friend enjoyed her Singapore Noodles – again the prawns impressed. A bottle of Old Coach NZ Sauv Blanc went well with the food. A desert of lemon grass and mango & passion fruit sorbet was nicely refreshing. The place was getting quiet busy as we finished. Overall, food was very good and good value. Service was prompt and professional. A great addition to the Italian quarter.
