Brasserie 15

Brasserie 15

Myself and my partner went for Sunday Lunch. Hadn't heard great reviews but was eager to see for myself. The place itself is nice and different to anything else in the area (unfortunatly only Chinese, Italian and pub grub available in the D15 area!) We hadn't booked and were asked firstly to eat at the bar which we declined. As it happened a table became free quickly. Very very little space between tables could hear the next table's conversation loud and clear. Not sure if the a la carte menu is available on Sunday but we were only given a Sunday Lunch Special which is good value at €20 for 3 courses. The starter choices were poor and unfortunately the actual starters were not much better. I chose the smoked salmon and egg salad, of which there was very little of either and a large portion of disgusting potatoe salad plonked in the middle of the plate. My partner's calamari was edible with a garlic sauce thrown over it. My main of lamb was tastey and served with potatoe and veg. My partner's chicken was miniscule - very poor portion. I'm not a dessert fan but I was told it wasn't bad and a reasonable size. I would give it another try but certainly wouldn't book it for a special night out...

Hugos

Hugos

I had an early evening dinner in Hugo's with my partner last night and overall feel positive about the dining experience. The menu is slightly different while there is a large choice of both starters and main, there was nothing I felt that I "must have". I chose a chicken salad starter and roast pork for main. The portions were rather small and the pork dish, while delicious was accompained by a sauce/gravy and potatoes and salad. The salad, I felt was a little unnecessary as it just became quite soggy in the sauce. However apart from that everything was delicious. My partner chose duck for starter and chicken for main course, the portion of chicken was a bit of a joke, it looked like 2 wings on his plate. The duck in his starter was actually a larger portion than the chicken in the main course. I liked the ambience and the service was good. Hugo's only have a wine licence, which is a little annoying. It's definitely worth a try. Don't book tables downstairs.....very pokey....!!

Casa Nostra (Dublin)

Casa Nostra (Dublin)

I tried Casa Nostra last Sat night and was extremely disappointed. After an unpleasant experience over a year ago, after reading the favourable comments on menu pages I decided to give it another try. The starters (antipasti + caesar salad) were at best average. After waiting approx 45 mins for our main courses they were very disappointing. By charging €25 for a fish special, the fish (cod in this case) was compleletly over done, dry and tasteless. My partner's pizza was pure stodge packed with lots of cheese. For an Italian restaurant you would think the pizza would be a safe choice. However on a positive note, the staff were very friendly and we were given a drink on the house for our long wait for main courses (without having to ask). There is also a nice atmosphere, but unforunately that's not enough to get me back there anytime soon! Still not a decent Italian in the Clonee/Ongar area.

Jaipur Restaurant (Ongar)

Jaipur Restaurant (Ongar)

I ate in Jaipur for the first time last night with 3 friends. I have to say I was very very impressed. The food and the service was fantastic. There wasn't much of an atmosphere being a Sunday night in the suburbs. I can't wait to try it on a busier night. One dining partner ordered the duck for starters and it was fab. For 4 of us including 2 bottles of wine, 4 starters and mains + 4 Irish coffees, the bill came to 188.50 which I think by today's standards is good value. I would have no hesitation in recommending Jaipur, Ongar.

Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
