Bridge Bar and BistroPosted on 25 March 2013
Went for Dinner in Bridge bar last week. There must have been no show on the theatre as it was not too busy. However the atmosphere was still nice, just not buzzing.
The food was of a very high standard. For starter I had the Carpaccio of Wicklow Venison which was fantastic. My partner had the Seared Scallops which were nicely cooked came with a delicious black pudding, although the white onion puree was not the ideal accompaniment for me. The starters were however very expensive at 16 and 14 euro a piece so it was no surprise that the tables either side of us skipped starters completely.
For main we shared the 32oz Steak Delmonico for 2 people sharing which was absolutely fantastic and beautifully presented. We ordered medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. The sauces and sides were also very nice and overall this was one of the best main courses I have had in years. At €62 (for 2) this was a reasonable price and there were no annoying extra charges for the sides.
Desert was nice and well priced although the ice cream was lacking anything special.
The wine selection was good and all price ranges were covered.
Service was excellent. Polite and knowledgeable staff, and plenty of them. Service was not rushed but there also was not too slow.
The décor was lovely and the toilets were clean and well maintained.
Overall an excellent visit and very nice food. Will definitely visit again.

Wasabi Japanese RestaurantPosted on 18 January 2013
Menu was extensive with a good selection of hot and cold food. The waitress was very professional and helpful in explaining the options, I would have given five starsonly for the incidend outlined below. Japanese tea on arrival was very nice touch and the portions were very good.
The quality of the food was ok but it did lack a bit of flavour and balance. The tempura chicken main that I have was mostly batter and very little chicken. What chicken there was seemed to have a very poor texture and no flavour. The tempura prawns for started were massive and very nice.
Tempura squid with the starter was extremely rubbery and hard to eat but the squid (not battered)with our second main was excellent and of the perfect texture. Overall a mixed bag on quality but very good on Service and quantity. The atmosphere as not great but it was very quiet when we attended.
The main negative on our visit was that we ate here on a voucher we bought through menu pages that was supposed to be 30 euros worth of food for €14, They made a big thing at the time of sale to say there were no restrictions. Booked via menu pages and mentioned the voucher. When we got the bill it was for just over 30 euros. I presented the voucher and the difference at which point there was a big conference between the staff. 10 minutes later they came back with a new bill for the same food for 8 euro extra. A total sham as would have not bought the voucher had it been €30 for €22. Very Unprofessional.

Masterson's Steak House & Wine BarPosted on 12 December 2012
Had dinner with a group of four. Had never eaten here before but had heard good reviews. This is a large restaurant that holds a lot of people but they keep the tables very well spaced out. The athmosphere was great as people could have fun without being in their neighbours face.
The menu was impressive. The starters of wings and mushrooms we had were very tasty but could have been slightly larger for the price. I was always going to get steak and they have plenty to choose from. These are in the 20-30 price range but the sizes are good. I had T-Bone and it was a good size but a little over cooked. My wife had medallions of beef and this was superb as was the duck I also tried a bite of.
The Eton Mess I had for desert was a disappointment but some of the other deserts at our table were very good.
The menu has lots of options on burgers and meals around the 12-15 euro mark so I would not hesitate in going to Mastersons even if I wanted a light dinner. They also had a good vegetarian selection. Overall very happy with the meal and price. In addition the service was good and they had no problem putting sauces on the side instead of on the plate where requested.

The Green HenPosted on 12 December 2012
Had Lunch here with some friends. It cost 25 for three courses with no tea/coffee. This puts the price in line with some of Dublin’s top restaurants for lunch and the menu certainly sounds delicious.
The downstairs is beautiful and has a nice atmosphere.
Unfortunately the food was not up to par and the service was also quite poor.
Service: Although it was only 12:30 and not too busy we were asked to order all 3 courses together, the service was slow and there was quite a gap between when each person in our group of 4 was served. As a result some of the food was cold by the time the party was ready to eat.
Food: I had Steak Tartar for starter which was only ok. The quail egg was hard and lacked flavour. Friend had crab salad that also lacked any flavour of crab, It was like the chef forgot to taste what was being served.
For main I had Pheasant. There was plenty of meat but it was quite dry and there was very little source (celeriac puree) served on the plate. There was only a small portion of veg on the plate and no sides of veg were served. It had truffle mash that seemed like ordinary mash but the baby artichoke was the best part of the meal. My friend had a steak which was good size an nicely cooked but came out cold.
For desert I had a very nice chocolate brownie. Friend had a lavender Crème Brulee with Mint Ice Cream. This did not work, it was ill conceived idea and poorly executed. The flavours did not work and the Crème Brulee was extremely runny.
Coffees were fine but did not come with chocolate or biscuit.

Burritos & BluesPosted on 14 November 2012
I have tried a lot of burrito places around Dublin for lunch and to me this is by far the best. The ingredients are fresh and portions are good. I always go for the silver bullet and have never been disappointed. It is around 50c more than some other take away places but you get a lot more for your money and there are plenty of seats. Only problem is there is never any blues playing. In fact the atmosphere is no better than any fast food burger joint.

Vittos RestaurantPosted on 12 November 2012
Had a disappointing visit to Vittos. The Pizza was mediocre and the server left us a long time waiting even though we had two young kids and indicated that wanted to keep things moving. The kids pizza is way overpriced and the selection was limited.
The restaurant advertises special offers around town but when you go in they only give you the full price menu which is way overpriced, especially the kids food. If you ask about the offers they don't seem very happy.
This one is only for tourists only. I will not be going back as there is far better Italian to be had not far from the town.
The building and location are very nice, there was a good croud in and the decor is pretty good.

Regatta Bar@Cryans HotelPosted on 12 November 2012
The carvery in Cryans is standard fare but good value for money, good food in a clean environment with good facilities such as baby changing etc. Staff are nice and there is a number of areas where you can eat away from the main bar. You will not go wrong for the money and the portions are ample to keep you going into evening. I would rate this above the average for a carvery. They usually give out pints of orange cordial free with meals and not just water which is nice.

The Moving StairsPosted on 12 November 2012
In my opinion by far the best place to eat in Boyle this bar has been opened and closed on and off over the last number of years.
The food has always been of a standard well above standard pub fare and the Vodka & chilli chicken I had on my last visit was a real treat. Prices are good and the service is very friendly and quick enough.

Bruno's RestaurantPosted on 12 November 2012
Had a nice meal in Brunos. Both had Pizza for main and it was of a very high standard. Good portions and well cooked. The restaurant has been very quiet any time I have been there but that is usually off peak. The bar area to the front is not as welcoming as it should be and it would not tempt me to stay around for a drink after the meal.

Hole In The Wall Phoenix ParkPosted on 08 November 2012
Staff are very nice but there are not enough of them. Service can be patchy as a result.
The Tapas are excellent and the deal on 6 plates for €25 is one of the best in Dublin. The rest of the menu is just on the high side of reasonable. On the flip side of this diners are allowed buy wine at a reasonable prince in the attached wine shop and have it with the meal at no extra charge. The selection is excellent so you can have wine that would usually be €35 - €40 in a restaurant for around €16.
Most of my food was of a high standard and I had a Lamb main which was very impressive if a little small. I have had steak before which was over cooked and again on the small size. Overall this is an excellent venue in a unique setting with a good atmosphere and busy bar to go to after the meal.

Roly's BistroPosted on 08 November 2012
Ate in Rolys last night. Had Crab & Apple salad which was ov a good standard and very nicely presented. Portion size was also very good. For main I had the Steak - rib of beef and to my surprise it was one of the best steaks I have ever had. Perfectly cooked and full of flavour. Portion size was fine but could have been slightly larger as there was a fair piece of fat on the meat. The accompanying veg was top class and there was plenty of it. Potatoes had a very distinctive flavour which was very nice for a change.
Knickerbocker Glory for desert was fine but partner had the cheese cake which was to die for. Really impressed.
Service was swift but not too rushed. There was wide selection of reasonable wines which is also positive.
Only real negative was that 2 extra glasses of wine were added to our bill but this was quickly rectified.

Mamma Mia Deli Cafe BarPosted on 30 May 2012
Went for Lunch and had the pasta special with a creamed broccoli sauce. The service was prompt and friendly. This place is so small that you need to get there before One unless you fancy sitting outside (although blankets are provided). My pasta was ok but lacked a bit of flavour in the sauce, it didn't stand out as great but was perfectly edible. Other pasta dishes around us were presented better and looked to have more ingredients.
Partner had a fantastic Italian Pizza which was very traditional.
Will definitely go again for Pizza.

KajjalPosted on 30 May 2012
I enjoyed an evening meal in kajjal. Very difficult to get an evening booking at the weekend. The food is excellent and the service was quite good although all the parties food was not brought all together. The atmosphere was a little stuffy with very few people appearing very jovial. Perhaps this was to do with people talking quietly as the tables are quite close together which is my one complaint regarding the venue.
