Gleeson’s Townhouse and RestaurantPosted on 21 May 2012
This was a meal of two halves. My seafood chowder was excellent and wife chicken dish was equally good. The mains really disappointed; my rare stead was burnt and my wife's fish was very poor. Having said all that the staff very extremely nice and couldn't have been more obliging. The wine list here is very reasonable as is the food. The owner commented that his regular chef was off for the Heiniken Cup Final. My recommendation is that he get a better standby chef. Overall the experience was good and we will return.

Caffrey's of BatterstownPosted on 04 December 2008
This is one of the best things to happen foodwise in Meath for a while. They serve a very traditional menu with lots of steaks, fish, lamb and pork. What I really liked was the lambs liver fro starter. Portions are on the big side and good value. What really impresses me most is that they will pick you up and drop you home if you live in the general area of Dunboyne, Clonee ratoath etc. at no charge. Pity other places don't follow suit.

Hilan ChinesePosted on 04 December 2008
Had a very interesting Hot Pot where one cooks their own food in a fondu type of vessel. One side was a mild stock while the other was spicy. We were provided with sliced beef and lamb, prawns and tofu. it quite good fun but we felt that the meat was rather tastless (the fact that it was still half frozen didn't inspire). Overall the athmosphere was very good and we enjoyed the experience.

Mao Restaurant (Dun Laoghaire)Posted on 19 March 2008
Had lunch here one Sunday. A bit noisy because of the number of children but I suppose you would forgive that on a Sunday. The service was friendly and excellent. One of my guests was allergic to lemon and the waiter ensured that her food didn't touch lemon and gave he a separate jug of water without lemon. The food was excellent and very nicely cooked. My starter of soup was particularily good. The fish dishes excelled. Portions were more than adequate. Prices offered very good value for money.

Moonduster Inn & RestaurantPosted on 11 January 2008
What really impressed me with this place was that some thought was given to the wine list. I was delighted to find a Berry and Rudd wine at a very reasonable price. The food is bistro style and very very tasty. Normally I have steak when I go here and my wife and friends have fish which is always cooked perfectly. Had their hummus last time and it was divine. Well worth a try!

Mad Fish Restaurant @ Cronins PubPosted on 11 January 2008
Cronins Bar is great so I was delighted when they opened the restaurant. Steak and Fish are the order of the day and one can't argue with the value of €140 for a two course (starter and mains) for four people including a bottle of wine and a few beers. Its not often that my wife half can't finish a plate of fish but this one beat her. The chef is doing very well here and the food is really well presented by very courteous staff. If ever you are in Crosshaven it's worth a visit and I believe the lunch food is very good as well.

Overdraught Bar & RestaurantPosted on 11 January 2008
If you are hungry this is the place to go. The menu is very much no nonsense bistro style with huge (I mean huge) portions. The seafood chowder was creamy (the way I like it but too rich for many people). Steaks were well cooked and I never got as big a portion of fresh scampi done in beer batter. This may not be (definitely isn't) the healthiest if places to eat but it's great value. A meal for 4 including two starters, four mains, one dessert one bottle of wine and three beers came to €171. Good value for what it is.

FlamesPosted on 15 December 2007
The menu here includes your traditional Chinese and Thai dishes with a few original ideas. The duck with mince meats and vegetables was colourful and taste great. The prawns in garlic with vermicelli are equally good. Service is friendly and efficient, though a little fast. The extensive wine list offers wines at reasonable prices. Starter and main course for two with a bottle of wine came in at €70.30 which was good value for money. We will return.

Grasshopper InnPosted on 14 December 2007
Went for lunch in the Grasshopper recently and the palce was like faulty towers. It was about 1.15pm and the chef announced that the turkey wouldn't be ready for another 15 minutes. There was little else of interest on the carvery menu so I went to get a soup and a sandwich. The soup of the day was cabbage and cheddar cheese. Being adventurous I decided to give it a try....it didn't work for me. Left waiting a long time overall which isn't ideal at lunchtime

The Signal Restaurant at The Station House HotelPosted on 14 December 2007
Most people associate The Station House with weddings, but there is far more to it than that. The restaurant offers a real old diningroom athmosphere with silver service, properly dressed waiting staff and food that's worth travelling a few extra miles for. Lat time we were there I had a steak while my wife opted fro a prawn dish. The presentation of the food was superb and tasted delicious. Because it was mid week the place was fairly quiet but there was still a great ambience. The prices are very reasonable for what you get...Sunday lunch is a bit manic so we tend to avoid it. If you haven't been to the Station House put it on you r list now.

Stone Haven RestaurantPosted on 14 December 2007
Only came across the Stonehaven recently and have eaten there twice. They certainly offer a variety on the menu such as Venison, Ostrich, Camel, etc as well as your steaks and chicken dishes. The atmosphere is brilliant and the staff are very friendly. A meal for two runs at about €85 including a bottle of wine which is good value for money. We will be back.

Ho Wun Chinese Takeaway & RestaurantPosted on 14 December 2007
Ho Wun have an excellent value set meal for €16 per person which includes starter, main course and desert. Their spare ribs are very good as is the soup. The value meal main courses are clever. Pick your meat; beef, chicken, pork or duck and then pick your sauce. While the vaue meal portions are a little on the small side, it's hard to fault it. Eating off the a la carte menue ensures that you get large portions of good food. The wine menue is very limited, but very good value. Staff can sometimes be a little over familiar which could scare some people away.

Slevin's BarPosted on 14 December 2007
Have had lunch here often. Their beakfast is the best value in town; bacon, 2 sausages, fried egg, fried potatoes, tomatoe, black and white pudding, beans, toast and coffe for just €8.95. The carvery lunch is of good quality and variety. Haven't had an evening meal there yet but the menu looks interesting.

Da Panza RestaurantPosted on 14 December 2007
This restaurant has its ups and downs but it seems as if it is on the way down. Had a meal recently. The prawns were served in a greasy sauce. The steak at €24 didn't even have salad or vegetables. They realy screw you on the wines. Total bill for two with a bottle of wine came to €94. Very bad value for money. We will not be back.
