Ghan House, Carlingford to host 2 wine-tasting dinners in May
In May this year Ghan House in Carlingford, County Louth is hosting 2 wine-tasting dinners in conjunction with James Nicholson Wine Merchant.
Ghan House is a beautifully restored 18th Century country house just a tree’s length away from the ever popular Medieval Heritage Town of Carlingford. Log fires, candlelit dinners and Georgian ambience make Ghan House the unique place for your romantic evening out.
The restaurant, in the splendid Drawing Room overlooking Carlingford Lough, uses the best of local, Irish produce and herbs & vegetables from the gardens. The Irish Restaurant Association has awarded them “Best Hotel Restaurant” for 3 consecutive years, 2010, 2011 and 2012 and they have recently been upgraded to 2 AA rosettes. Head Chef Robert Read has created an exciting menu with innovative and creative dishes. Their midweek 6 course tasting menu has proven to be very popular and at €27.50 is an affordable treat. Dining is at a leisurely pace - you have your table for the whole evening - but it is advisable to book in advance!

Ghan House & James Nicholson Wine Merchant are delighted to host an evening with Sami Ghosn ~ 2nd generation owner of the Massaya Estate. Bekka Valley.
The Romans chose the Bekaa Valley as the site to build the temple of Bacchus in homage to their God of wine and grapes.
Forced to leave it in 1975 during the raging civil war Sami, along with his brother returned 17 years later to restart their family estate winery that 1st began growing wines in the early 70’s.
Sami revived the distillation of homemade Arak and entrusted marketing to his brother Ramzi who was at that time settled in France, managing his own restaurant company.
The famous blue bottles of Arak turned into an instant success.
The Tanail Estate was reborn from its’ ashes but Sami Ghosn had still greater ambitions.

Following on from John Forrest’s visit to Ghan House last year, Dan Taylor will enlighten us through tasting their wines matched wine 4 course dinner cooked by Ghan House AA Rosette head chef Rob Read.
The classic Marlborough "terrior" is a geologically young, alluvial (stoney), free draining, infertile soil and are perfect for premium grape growing. Each vineyard is managed by John and his team.
