Hadn’t been here for a while and won’t be in a hurry to return. The food & prices are average, the service very mixed. My main course was served & they had forgotten about my starter but still tried to charge me for it. Most of the food is processed/pre packaged, the chips were cold and portion sizes on the meager side. My partner requested his steak medium – it was served extremely well done and barely edible. Coffee was weak and luke warm As a pub it is good but give it a miss as a restaurant

There was a group of 33 of us for dinner on Friday night. We had a three course for 30euro. Having been to The SnailBox before, I knew to opt for the steak, as that's what its famous for! I started with chicken & bacon caesar salad, for the main sirloin steak with pepper steak, chips & veg and for dessert the meringue nest with fresh fruit. This was an absolutely perfect meal, cooked just to my liking even though we were such a big group. Will return here any day, well worth it. They also had a free bus service for us too, which brought us back to the Swords area.

Went to the Snailbox with my mother and 3 sisters a few Saturday nights ago. From beginning to end our whole experience was excellent. Firstly, we were collected from our hotel in Ashbourne, free of charge ( snailbox is a few miles out of town) The restaurant was buzzing when we arrived so glad we booked in advance. The decor is casual and has a quirky collection of hats on the ceiling. We chose the house red and white wine which was brilliant value at 14 euro each. The menu was extensive. A huge starter of deep fried brie, followed by melt in the mouth sirloin steak meant we were too full for dessert. The service was friendly and efficient. We retired into the lounge after dinner some some great fun of live music and singing. Again, we were dropped back to our hotel at the end of the night. Overall, a delicious meal and great fun. I highly recommend the snailbox

This place is a gem! I see lots of people saying that the food is very pricey...but, They have a super deal on at the moment - €100 for 4 course dinner and accommodation, which is amazing for the quality, and as cheap as going to town for dins and paying a taxi home... A few of us booked into have dinner and stay the night one Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised. I thought that as we were on a special deal, that the menu might have been limited... but we could have anything on the extensive a la carte menu. Amazing menu... I had prawns to start, followed by a rare steak... cooked exactly to perfection. The house wine was great value at €14 a bottle as were all the drinks. After an excellent pub meal, with no complaints from anyone, we stumbled into the bar next door. There was a really good trad band playing in the corner and we sat down to watch. We sang, they sang and everyone had good craic. As we were staying in house, there was no problem getting late drinks. The staff were great and atmosphere was excellent. My favourite thing about this place though was breakfast. Breakfast is served from 10 – 12... What a good idea. As we had all late nights it was lovely to enjoy a lie on and not have to worry about missing breakfast, which turned out to be really good. Big compliments for the Snail Box. I would highly recommend it as something different to do. For a birthday or group event – its a great place to have dinner, stay over and not have to worry about anything.

We ate here on the recommendation of friends who said the food was amazing although a little pricey. The food is expensive for what you get. It is pub food done well at restaurant prices. The staff are really good and the place is always packed, so you're better off booking a table even for lunch. The snail box also offers a mini van service to drop you home to your door'. You can't beat this service! Good Spot

We went to the Snailbox as many of our friends had recommended it to us. The first table we were seated at was very small, when the waitress brought our starter out she couldn't find somewhere to put it on the table as there wasn't enough room, so we moved to a different table. On tasting the starter I thought it was very greasy, I tried other things on the plate as it was a platter for two and everything had the same greasy taste off it. It was that bad that we decided to cancel the main course and leave. When I was paying for the starter that we barely touched and the tea which came to €22.15, the man behind the bar never even asked what the problem was and continued to take full payment from me and he never even made eye contact. I was disgusted with it and the behaviour of the staff.

I went here on a Sunday and there was about 10 people in my group. We had not boooked and the waitress very quickly pulled some tables together and got us all seated. As usual in The Snail Box the service was excellent. However the only menu option on the Sunday was the a la carte menu. It was expenxive too. It would of been nice to have had the option of a set sunday lunch price or a slightly cheaper menu. The Snail Box was packed that day and there was a great atmosphere. Despite the price issue, the food as always was excellent. I would highly recommend the Snail Box for food and its location makes it a lovely place to visit.

The food here is nice and the staff are friendly, but the price of the food is outrageous. I only visit here on rare occasions because of this. I had a lovely chicken stir fry with white wine sauce and my wife went for the thai chicken. Neither of us had any complaints about the food. However, it is outrageous to be paying circa €18 each for what is a pub menu. It is not a Michelin starred restaurant

We called into the Snail-Box, just for a quick meal, with the kids. I must say the food was so good, even the picky-eater, left a clean plate. The atmoshere was warm, relaxing and I would recommend The Snail Box to families.

This is my local bar and restaurant. I previously worked here many years ago both in the kitchen, and as a waitress so I can vouch for its clenliness. I had a family meal here last month for Sunday Lunch for the first time in over a year and the quality of food and service remains the same. Service is always efficient and friendly. Food is always tasty with very generous portions. Ordered deep fried brie for starter with a delicious raspberry coulis and garnish of salad. For main had veggie stir fry with rice and an amazing white wine sauce with mushrooms. Could not have dessert as portions huge for main. Desserts no longer homemade however which is disappointing. Negative point is that it is very over priced for what you get. I would much rather smaller portions for a more reasonable price. Atmosphere always busy here especially at the weekends but lovely surroundings and views. Will be back.

The Snail Box was hosting the after math of my niece's confirmation on sunday. There were well over 30 guests and we had a whole section reserved. The location is amazing - gorgeous views. It was v busy inside which was daunting - I was dreading being rushed and the service. I needn't have worried. The staff were fantastic, really on top of their game. There was a set menu but the food was outstanding. I had garlic mushrooms to start. The best I've had - the accompanying sauce was delicious. Then I had the roast cod. Now I would've preferred to know from the menu that it was battered cod but the piece that I got was enough for two. It was a little too oily for my liking and I'm questioning whether it was cod but the fish was well cooked and the batter was crisp. The tartar sauce was lovely. My only quibble was the mushy peas. They were grey and tasteless - yuck! But I had enough fish to share with 3 others. I got a side salad with it and it wasn't your run of the mill butterhead with a few slices of tomato. My other half got a rare steak cooked to perfection. All in all, we'll be back if we're ever in the area.

Me and my boyfriend love coming here. Very warm and welcoming restaurant/bar. The food is amazing so delicious a little on the pricey side but cooked to perfection and it is always hard to choose from the menu because everything sounds so good. The waiters are very friendly and helpful and there is a free bus to take you back to ashbourne which is great as you can leave the car at home and have a few drinks in the bar.

Visited with a friend on Sunday evening, in the middle of a sharp frost. Freezing outside, lovely and toasty inside. Our table was booked and we were seated straight away, right beside the fire, which wasn't ideal but certainly thawed us out. Service was a little slow, but very understandable as the restaurant was packed and the waitresses were friendly and helpful at all times. I chose deep fried bree to start, which turned out to be three decent sized pieces served with a cranberry coulis and small side salad, totally tasty. For my main course I had hicken pasta in a mushroom and garlic sauce which was absolutely lovely. I couldn't finish it all, in fact I probably only managed half of the extremely generaous helping, and my waitress noticed this and checked that I had been happy with my meal, which I appreciated. My companion had pil pil prawns and steak, also excellent. The garlic potatoes which accompanied my dish ensured I had no room for dessert, which was a pity as they all looked lovely Glad to see the place was packed and doing a roaring trade. Would definitely eat here again.

I went here last week for a quick dinner with a friend and was impressed, I had heard plenty of good reviews about the place so wanted to give it a try. Our waitress was great, the food took a while to come out I thought seeing as there was hardly anyone in the place at the time we were there but was nice enough, my friend got a stir fry which they milled into, I got Tiger Prawns with Pasta, the only thing I could say bad is that the pasta was a little bit chewy & stuck together, the sauce was lovely and with a generous amount of prawns unlike some places who give you three or four with a main course (!!!), We got coffees to finish and ended up having more coffee after a while as it was such a relaxing place to be, Will be back for sure.

As a regular visitor to the excellent Snailbox it would be amiss of me not to defend the place. I am a wheelchair user who frequents the place I have found the staff nothing but professional, friendly and above all, willing to go beyond their job description. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal nor met a member of staff who was rude and did not enjoy their work. It tells of a great atmosphere when you see the same staff on all the time and the have a genuine smile on their faces. The owners are nothing short of the perfect hosts and anyone who says otherwise is not use to eating out in a perfect setting with great food. I have no personal gain in this comment and but felt I must defend the Snailbox and its Management and staff and cannot recommend the place enough and anyone who has found the Snailbox to be other than I have described either came with different aspirations or just do not see the hard work carried out by all the Management and Staff to make their visit memorable for the right reasons I am surprised at some of the comments re bad service, rude waitresses etc.. as I believe all the staff are very well trained and nothing is too much trouble for them and I know if either owner encountered their staff with a bad attitude they would not tolerate it as the Snailbox has an excellent name in the area and is usually totally booked out weekends and they will facilitate you even if you have no booking but are willing to have a drink at the bar and enjoy the ambience of the place. As a wheelchair user I can only commend the the owner for the way he has the place totally accessible and this is something a lot of other restaurants could take a lesson in. I always remember the quotation when I hear of people complaining about honest people who try to give a good service: “Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticise them, you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes.”

I was here at the weekend with a few friends on Saturday night and we all had a great night. We started the night with a meal in the restaurant which was very impressive. The staff were very friendly and the food was DELICIOUS!!! We took full avil of the €12 bottles of wine that are on offer!! I also noticed that you could get 4 bottles corona or miller for €14 which is also extremely reasonable! We then decided to head on into the function room where there was a Country and Western night on. Brendan Shine was playing and it was great craic! The staff informed me that every Saturday night is going to be a country n western night with someone different every week. I will definately be back!!!

The night was a disaster with dreadful staff, dreadful service, basic food, and rip off prices. We all agreed we would never go back again. Dont get me wrong the food was ok but totally over priced. The staff were so ignorant. One friend was left short cutlery and it was nearly thrown at her when she requested it. Not one of us was happy with the service. We were in great form meeting up after a year so nothing was going to spoil the night and in fact we laughed at the bad manners it was so extraordinary. These were waitresses who could understand our requests and orders but repeatedly got things wrong and were annoyed when we basically asked them to set things right. At the end of the evening the bill was wrong, we had 3 courses each and we wanted to pay separately. We had also had irish coffees etc but it transpired that we had been overcharged for a couple of beers which no one had. Then the waitress tried to argue with us that we had them. A different waiter agreed we hadn't and they were taken off the bill. We would never go back. Pretty much the same thing happened 3 years ago I went with my husband and we never went back until now. Nothing had changed.

The food here is nice but i have to say i don't get their approach to booking tables! I booked a table for 2, arrived on time and was left sitting there for half an hour. There were plenty of empty tables around and in the end we only got a table because we put our jackets on to go. Parties of more than 2 people were seated immediately but we weren't the only couple left waiting. Its a pity, because if it wasn't for this issue i would go more often.

Went to The Snailbox last Saturday, been here a few times before. Food is always amazing, so tasty. We were greeted at the door by a really friendly waiter, who looked after us the whole evening. Everything from the food, ambience & service was really cosy! Had the prawns pil pil for starters, a bit spicy but still enjoyable & had the new burgers, didnt have dessert was too stuffed!Keep up the good work Snailbox, will be back soon again!

As as person who frequented the original snailbox its just gone from bad to worst, much to a lot of peoples disappointment,it had the potential to be somewhere you could go and have a good family day or in the evening a great sing song with an atmosphere thats rare to find, its unfortunate its lost that.I would have to say the food was not bad when it started out first but just went downhill, not somewhere i would eat again .

I eat here regularly and have to say the food is always great and the portions are hearty. I wouldn't recommend it for a date setting as it is too casual but for a good feed its great and very reasonably price for the size of the dishes. Can't go wrong with anything on the specials board.

Used to go here quite a bit for weekend breakfast but was at The Snail Box twice over the weekend and was very dissatified, which has happened the last 4 or 5 times I've been there. Food was terrible, (deep-fried mushrooms!) and breakfast was awful for everyone. We were also refused an omlette dispite the fact that one of our companions could not eat any thing on the menyu due to allergies. Used to love it here but really wouldn't recommend it now. Would get no stars except the waitress was nice to us. a senior member of staff was quite rude strangely enough. Sorry Snail Box :o(

I have eaten here twice. Once for Sunday lunch which was excellent and once on a weekday evening. The evening menu is more expensive but the restaurant wasn't quite so full so I enjoyed it more. On both occasions the staff were simply fantastic. Genuinely friendly and very helpful. I will definitely be back - the steak is amazing!

I live in Ratoath and have eaten at the snail-box on three occasions. The first time was a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed, lovely atmosphere and great food, if a little pricey for the location and setting. Steaks were great in general. The last time we went for my birthday, the beef stir fry was lacking in something I couldn't put my finger on, as was the beef stroganoff. My boyfriend asked for garlic potatoes with his meal which were raw so he sent them back and the waiter told him that there were none left and brought soggy chips instead. The mushroom sauce was delicious. The bar offers a free taxi service for the locality which is nice as the bar is out of the way and you would find it difficult to get a taxi. Overall, the place is worth a visit. Nice atmosphere, lovely views of the countryside, friendly service and decent food. The portions are huge so I'd skip the starter as even pasta and rice dishes come with a choice of chips, garlic potatoes or mash. A bit pricey if you're looking for Sunday pub grub but nice to go to for a night out - There is usually live music on a Friday night, one time, they had a guy who was brilliant but the last time, on 10th October, they had a band that was absolutely painful and we couldn't wait to leave so it can be a risk.

Just "ok". I had been meaning to try this place for a long time as its well known in the locality for steaks etc. We arrived early evening midweek and the place was empty service was prompt and staff very friendly but food just ok. Garlic bread with cheese to start was the standard fare and a medium steak was cooked to perfection, it was fine but nothing to write home about! There are better steak restaurants in the area. Decor could do with updating.

Called in here whilst on a trip to Meath. It was a Sunday, and the place was packed, a great atmosphere. Didn't have a booking, so was told there would be a 45 minute wait, went to the back bar, and had a stunning pint of Guinness. Was called to our table after 25 minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the 16 oz sirloin, whilst my partner had the 8oz sirloin. The steak was stunning, very tender, cooked exactly as I ordered. Accompanying onions, mushrooms and chips were all fine. Not sure if the chips were homemade. Desserts were alright, nothing spectacular. Service was brilliant, genuinely friendly and obliging staff. I really enjoyed this place, nothing too fancy, just a real buzzing spot for an informal meal. Not expensive for the quality of food, big portions. I will return.

Starter platter is lovely, food is nice but new menu is a bit pricey and food is not near as nice at lunchtimes during the week as it is at weekends!

Sunday afternoon. Fillet steak was very good. Very nice touch was specifically seeking out customers in adjoining bar to let them know their table was ready. And a very good pint of the black stuff it was too.

This was the restaurant I chose for my birthday meal with my family cos it's just fantastic. It has taken "pub grub" to the next level, and the staff are just great and it's just a really nice place. It's always so so busy, so you have to book in advance or risk waiting for ages!

The fillet steak is one of the best around. Nearly always busy whenever I've gone which is always a good sign. I've always had very good meals here.
