The food was great, there was no atmosphere to speak of and although the place was pratically empty the service wasn't good. I'd go back for the grub but not for a special meal.

Ate here on a Monday evening on the way home from a shopping trip. Have to say I wasn't too impressed. The place was extremely cold. Although the girl waiting on us couldn't have been nicer! I had cod and chips for my main, chips were nice and homemade but the cod was practically dripping in grease and not very appetising. My boyfriend had lasagne and it was fairly likely that it had been made at least a day before and reheated as it was very dry. Quite disappointed as the staff are lovely and the place itself is nice (if a little icy) but we won't be returning due to the food.

Today my family had lunch in the Gallops. My husband had eaten there pre Christmas and recommended the food - he was not wrong the food was really good. We started with Spring Roll, Cheese and Onion tartlet and Calamari - all great and well presented. Mains were Steak Sandwich, Cod & Chips and a special Stuffed Chicken - great flavour and proper chips too. Only draw back being the cold - it was VERY cold (like eating outside). When we enquired we were told that there is not central heating system! Most diners were wearing their coats and scarves! Such a pity that the welcome was not warm - we will go back but not until the summer. YOU WERE WARNED - WEAR YOUR THERMALS!

Great place to eat. Good food, big portions, comfy sofas to seat. Staff are nice too. Great value for money - it's just what you should expect in any other place like this.

Have eaten here a few times in the restaurant area and the pub area. Food is very good pub grub. Big portions at decent prices. The decor in the lounge is great. Big compfy sofas and a fire in the middle. If you look up to the ceiling it has old and unusual artifacts hanging from it (watering cans, saws etc...) Very old worldy. Have also eaten in the restaurant area when it is busy and its a quite romantic setting, though most people would book it out for a funcion. Would reccomend this place for good pub grub and the unusal setting. Good place to start if you are going to the Bellewstown races/Laytown races, or just stopping off in the area.

Ended up here after a long search for lunch in the Bettystown/ Laytown/ Julianstown area on Sunday. They were serving a dinner menu with a few items of the menu that would do as starters so we were limited in terms of having something for "lunch" so we both opted for the soup. It wasn' great, the soup lacked seasoning and the bread was well on the way to being stale. Service was good however and the restaurant/ bar might appeal to tourists as it is very old-fashioned with lots of Irish antiques
