I've actually eaten in Romanza a few times now and its one of those rare gems that seem to be so few and far between, (especially in Drogheda). The food is superb, the service is top notch and the atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and inviting. The menu choices are excellent also, i'm quite a fussy eater myself so its always good to see a good list of choices. The main thing i found though is the value for money that the restaurant represents is fantastic, €70.00 goes an awful long way in this restaurant. I cant recommend this place enough.

We had a table booked for 5 people. On arrival we were met by a member of staff inside the door who when we told the name of the booking just proceeded to point for us where to sit. I feel normally you should be shown to your table. After we had sitted we had our menus for about 20 minutes before we were asked for a drink. After our wine arrived another 10 minutes past before our order was taken. Finally after almost 35 minutes we were eagerly awaiting our food. The starters arrived and were presented beautifully and tasted as good as they looked. Felt this was going to be a good meal. However on arrival of the mains the evening turned for the worse. One of my companions order paella. Now the rice could have been used to hang wallpaper it was so gluppy. It was returned to be replaced by a Spaghetti Mafioso (meatballs) which one of our other companions was really enjoying. However the replacement meal came out absolutely steaming hot. The meatballs did not taste the same as the other bowl and due to the heat of the dish it sat untouched for over 10 minutes to allow it to cool down. After the time had elapsed it was still too hot. The waiter was called, who if i recall had not delivered a bottle of beer that had been asked for 10 minutes earlier. It was explained to the waiter the meal we felt had been microwaved where he proceeded to argue this and that the restaurant does not have any microwaves in its kitchen( far this hard to believe) when the plate was lifted to show the waiter he proceeded to retort " do not shove the plate in my face" and he stormed off. The bill was asked for immediately. The paella/spaghetti dish was removed from the bill but we requested it be reinstated which it was. 225 euros for this absolute waste of money. The member of staff that greeted us on arrival was still pointing and basically not doing anything at all ( dont even know why he was there). Would not recommend Romanza and we will not be returning.

I spotted the board with earlybird offer, I thought not bad for 2 courses, in fact it was excellent value as the food was excellent. As mentioned by another reviewer I was asked to take whatever table I fancied, the place was empty as it was just before 6pm on a Friday. Took a table for 2, they appear to have 2 different styles of 2 seater tables. I made mistake of going for the type which was to narrow to allow you to pull chair into table. Just a small thing to watch for. I had Salad Nicoise to start and Hake for mains. Both courses can only be described as excellent, both presented very well. The Tuna was beautifully cooked and lovely and pink on the inside. The Hake was lovely and a real pleasant surprise to find on the menu, it was cooked on a cast iron dish which kept the fish nice and hot. It was cooked with olive oil and chunks of lemon and tasted great and not overcooked. I also had a very nice glass of organic white wine. I gave 4 for atmosphere because it was empty and music was bit to high, though I did like selection of music. Total bill was less than €25 including wine, I will certainly be going back.

Very disappointed with our visit. There were 4 adults and 2 children in our party for lunch. The welcome was poor - we had a reservation for 6 including 1 high chair but the waitress just told us to sit wherever we liked, even though there was no table big enough. The waiter was rude - telling my wife she had to move the buggy even though she was still unpacking things for the baby. There was quite a delay in offering us a drink and we were not offered bread. It was a special occassion and I suggested we eat off the main menu rather than the lunch specials (the specials did seem very good value). I was shocked at the expensive bill - 4 pasta dishes, 3 starters, 3 desserts and 3 coffees, 1 childrens pasta + ice cream, 1 bottle of wine came to EURO 150 for lunch! It was my first time eating a "Sicilian" cheesecake - does "Sicilian" mean small and stale? The neighbouring table returned a rice dish which had undercooked rice. At best the staff were charmless and poorly trained. The food was OK but at that price very bad value.

Went here again with friends, had a beautiful experience. Would like to go back with my husband, very intimate atmosphere with excellent choice and excellent food. Service was very good both times and the food lovely again.all at very reasonable prices. Very pleasant smoking area at the back so no need to stand on the street either. A new favourite!

I think this is more than just an Italian restaurant it has a more mediterranean menu, the menu has a lot of fish dishes & as a non-fish eater I think repeat visits will be limited unless the non-fish menu changes regularly. This is not to take away from the excellent starters & mains which we all really enjoyed, the deserts were a let down. Well worth a visit!

Fantastic early bird menu. Got here just in time for the early bird and was well impressed. €16.95 for 2 courses great deal. My date had the minestrone soup - very tasty missing pasta was the only compliant. I had the tuna nicoise salad missing the anchovies but was a good salad. We both had seafood paella which was really good plenty of prawns mussels and cockles, I got one piece of squid and missing the monkfish!!! It was a very well priced and tasty meal 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 coffee's and 2 gls wine all for under €52.00. Would not get it in Dublin for sure. Apart from the few missing ingredients we had a lovely meal and enjoyed the Piano player.

My new favourite restaurant in Drogheda! From arrival to departure we felt like valued customers, mostly thanks to a very proactive and engaging host, who made excellent wine suggestions to suit our food and palates. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Overall the food was very good. We shared a starter of brie and beetroot salad, which was disappointing. The portion of Brie was far too big and it completely overpowered the lovely roasted beetroot and lovely dressing hiding underneath. For mains I had prawn linguini, which looked quite dull when it arrived, but tasted wonderful. It was perfectly seasoned and the prawns were plentiful and fresh. My husband had the special of surf n turf. He found his steak a little tough, but the lobster was amazing and we both loved the stack of home made fries on the side. To finish I had creme brulee, which I couldn't fault, and my husband had their take on tiramisu. We will most certainly be back! (it should be noted that a neighbouring table did not have such luck, there was much confusion with their order and one poor woman in particular had the incorrect dish delivered to her on 3 separate occasions by 3 different waitresses!)

I have been here twice and have to say the service, food and atmosphere is great, The menu choice is good and each dish is big enough to tear and share especially the pitza's. Pasta dishes has great flavour and for the non pasta people with us the fish and chips went down well. The wine choice is fine, our selected wine was not available so the waiter recommended a wine more expensive for the same price, good call, the piano music is much better than some cd playing over and over in the background, people asking for requests etc added to the atmosphere, Good value for a good night out, will be back soon

Our booking was for 7pm and the early bird menu finished at 7 but we were told we could still avail of it. Food was excellent, I had the sirloin steak and it was cooked perfectly. Often with an early bird menu you can feel a little cheated but that certainly wasn't the case in Romanza. Everyone left satisfied and promising to return.

Myself and 8 friends booked a table here for my friends birthdays. We were greeted by very friendly staff from the moment we walked in the door. Our table was perfectly located right beside the piano and the food was excellent. The portions were very generous and the waiting staff were very attentive, even knowing who ordered what dish without having to ask. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant and I would highly recommend it.

4 of us visitied Romanza on Saturday night. Firstly, the table was booked for 8, but they had no record of it at the on their list. Had to wait about 10 minutes, but we were soon sorted out. The menu read beautifully, there were a number of dishes that I would have loved to try, but I plumped for the Chicken Liver pate, the Lamb kebab, and then the sicilian cheesecake. The starters were beautiful. But my main was fairly black, and seemed very overcooked. The lamb, as a result, was very dry. Also, the staff seemed to deliver a drinks order to our table. Then we ordered our desserts and coffees. The coffees were delivered, but we had to wait 30 minutes of the desserts. I don't think that I'll be rushing back.

Decided to try out Romana last weekend after hearing mainly good reviews about it. There were four of us. To start the waitress seemed pretty friendly....that soon changed. When we ordered we were told that two of the four main courses were not available (both fish dishes) so two of us were rushed to choose something else on the spot...waitress was not a bit patient or apologetic at this point which irrattated me slightly, she should have made us aware of unavailable dishes when giving us the menus. When we got our food we could not fault it, it was absolutely fantastic...really different that anywhere else in town. By the end of the night I was FAR FROM HAPPY with the service and some of the "comments" from the waitress, I wont even go into detail!!! All in all we enjoyed the night purely because of the food. We found it slightly expensive for what we got, not somewhere I will be going regularly but deffinately will be for a treat now and then!

We visited Romanza with some French visitors - the welcome we received from George would warm your heart. The athmosphere was very relaxed and the place was very busy for a Sunday. We found the menu to be varied, and tried quail and salmon- clean plates all round!. Although our table was close to the one next to us we did not find it intrusive. Having heard that service can be slow we were delighted to find that it was not like that on that night. The music was not too loud although I would like if it was left off so that people could just chat. Our French visitors loved the experience and the cusine.

after reading all the good and the bad i had to go and try this place, I had eaten in their restaurant in Dublin a few times and had always loved it! and after being to the latest version i have to say i love it even more!!! we were a table of eight people and we all live in the area and i have to say that from start to finish it was prob the best dining experience I've had in Ireland and all the party agreed!! we went for a selection of starters all of which were to die for and i had the 16oz steak! yumm my partner had the monk fish which i tried and we both loved and the couple with us had pasta which they said was Divine and considering they are Italian i reckon it must be good! we had some fab Cocktails to start and a few bottles of vino! the service was great, friendly and fast and to top it all the music was fab! so to all those who did not enjoy i say go back and try again! all the people with me have been there on a second and 3rd time and said it was even better than the last so I'm booked in again next Friday which i cant wait!! yumm

Recently ate in this restaurant, the food was really good but the service was the worst i have ever experienced. The staff must have no experience or training. I don't even know where to start: Booked table for 9pm but it wasn't ready when we arrived, we were directed to the bar where we ordered a bottle of wine, we poured a couple of glasses & girl behind the bar said that she would keep rest of bottle behind the bar as we were standing & had no seats/ table, so no where to put bottle. When we went back for bottle they said that we drank it all!! Eventually, after we insisted that we certainly did not drink the whole bottle, she found our unfinished bottle, no apology given. Was almost 10pm before we got our table. I don't mind waiting a few minutes but a hour is a bit much. When we went to order a second bottle of this wine, we were told that we drank the last one. Now we should have been told when we ordered the first one, that there was only one left as we would have ordered something else. The Menu has a lot of fish so i was delighted but when i went to make my order, i was told that they hadn't got any the fish that i wanted left. Later that night i heard someone else order the fish that i wanted & there was no problem!! Very annoying & disappointing. Then on my way to the ladies, one of the waitresses drop a cup of coffee all over me. Luckily it was cold but still destroyed my dress. She wasn't very apologetic at all. Manager offered to pay for my dry Cleaning. Still have to collect dress from dry cleaners, i hope that they do pay when i go back with the bill or replace dress if stain doesn't come out. By the way, there is only one Ladies toilet, far too little for the size of the restaurant. Food was tasty & atmosphere & singer was good but service ruined the night.

One of the most disappointing restaurants experiences I have had in my life. Went here to try for a friends birthday recently. The table was booked for 8 o'clock and our table of 8 people were all there within 10 minutes. On arriving at 8 o'clock we were promptly sent to the bar as our table was not ready and we were given no apology or explanation. After waiting over half an hour and declining to place a drinks order at the bar several times I asked a member of staff when our table would be ready and was told it would be another 15 minutes at least. On hearing this we decided to leave and were greeted with rude comments from the head waiter on the way out the door and absolutely no sign of an apology. As a resident of Drogheda i have also heard many other poor reports about this restaurant.

I checked this restaurant out recently. Food was good but I thought menu was limited..it was extensive menu... but choices limited unless you are in to pizza. I enjoyed it and would go back. Service was slow but it is a new restaurant so hopefully this will get back on track. I went back a second time to this restaurant. Menu changed a lot more choices on menu now and very good choices I have to say. My husband had the sizzling fish platter which looked lovely but it was not sizzling....he said the fish was lovely but the sauce accompanying it was very boring and more like a fish stock as opposed to a sauce. I had the beef and it was delicious, service was very good and staff were very pleasant and efficient. I am looking forward to going back. Negative: We were put sitting beside a music speaker and it blasted in our ears all the time, plus the music was very 'pop' and not really in fitting with the atmoshere.
