Ate on the a la carte menu here for a special event with large group. I'd heard lots of good things about The Pig's Ear so maybe I had hyped it up a bit too much but I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. I had the goats cheese starter which was delicious - couldn't fault that. Rib eye for mains was fine - correctly cooked to order, nicely presented but not as tasty as I hoped for, . Truffle mash was yummy, the remainder of the sides were again fine but nothing amazing. Cheesecake dessert was lovely, really liked the presentation in the jar. Also had a very nice portuguese red wine - possibly a douro, can't remember the detai now but it was delicious! In terms of atmorsphere, the place wasn't anything special there were a number of large groups and was quite noisy at times. On service - it was very good, waiters were very friendly and attentive.

Called with three friends for lunch on Friday and dined off the lunch menu. One had a starter (the crab mayonnaise...really goood) and the rest had the dessert option. A friend and I had the venison for mains and were very pleasantly surprised with it's texture and rich taste. It's presentation also was good. For desert we had the trifle with real fruit..excellent. After my previous slightly disappointing experience here, this visit was a real pleasure and to top it all the service matched the food. Recommended.

I'm giving the Pig's Ear the full 5 stars as I couldn't fault it on any of the categories. It has a lovely warm atmosphere, the food was amazing, the service was top notch and, as we ordered from the early bird menu, it was really great value. The duck with prunes main course was absolutely beautiful.
