We were seated in a nice dining rooom on the first level which though it was August was uncomfortably chilly as the evening wore on. We had Kir for aperatifs as we chose from a very interesting menu. Then peculiarly the waiter arrived to ask whay wine we wanted - we hadn't yet ordered our food. The wine I chose was not available. In fact we were told the shipment of that chardonnay had been sent back as it wasn't good! I asked him to recommend an alternative which he reluctantly did and finally he proposed a chardonnay from Languedoc which was very good. Hard work though. The food was great though the constant filling of our wine glasses became irritating and when by the end of our main course the last of the wine was poured and we were asked if we wanted a second bottle! Instead we had a glass of dessert wine to accompany what was probably the best cheesecake I've had in years. What a pity the excellent meal was overshadowed by over-zealous and frankly not very professional service. One last oddity. The menu item of cola bottles & chocolate mice was not some Heston Blumenthal inspired petit-fours but actually the stuff you ate as a kid. Quirky but hardly very original. I'll give the Pig's Ear a second chance and hope the waiters have sharpened their act. So four stars for the food and one lost for the service

Quirky little features to the place like serving soup in a saucepan, sugar 'bowl' is a small packet of suicra. Food was really really good for all three of us dining. We had lunch and had the two course for 15.95 offer. Starters were the crab, melon and soup all good. For mains we ordered the chicken and two sausage and mash. All plates cleaned and it was very very tasty. I would recommend this restaurant and the staff are very attentive and pleasant. Only thing is because of the wooden floors and relatively small space if there's a lot of people in, or a group, it can get really noisy.

I really enjoyied lunch in the pig's ear, which i found great value at €15 for two courses. The food was very good, especially the herb-crusted fillet of cod, best one I've had in a while. A little down note is the decor, which I found a little plain with some tacky elements (plastic table cloths, stuffed animals!!). I'll be back soon to try their dinner menu.

Yum yum yum... yet again The Pig's Ear didn't fail to amaze us for its quality of food and excellent service. We had friends visiting from the UK so pre-booked through Menupages. The staff were very attentive at all times and our guests commented on this too. We were dining early so took advantage of the Early-Bird menu, which is great value. I had items I wouldn't normally try for example a pork brawn terrine for starter, sea trout for main and lemon rice pudding-style dessert. I have to say it was sooooooooooo delicious. Each course is beautifully presented often in quirky jars, plates etc. A huge 'Thumbs- up' to this fabulous little restaurant.

I went to the Pigs Ear for the first time on th 11th June with a group of 7. The staff were friendly when we arrived but we were seated at a table that should have been for 6 and not 7 so one side of the table was cramped with 4 people and one person had to balance their dish on an uneven surface as one of the joined tables was higher than the other. I ordered the potted crab which had been recommended to me. When the dish was served it was very cold and had obviously just been taken out of the fridge. It was so cold in fact that all I could really taste was something cold with little flavour. I had the shepards pie for main course which was delicious but should only be eaten during the winter and was to much for a summers evening. I think that the prices are a little to high for what was actually served to us. I won't be rushing back to the Pigs Ear any time soon.

We booked for a special family occasion and unfortunately we were left disappointed. The table we had was fine and the first impression was good however the service and the food did not match up to our expectations. The presentation of the food was excellent but the main course portions were small and side portions had to be ordered. The service was a bit rushed and we had to ask a couple of times for different items. The menu reads well but doesn't show up on the plate. We won't be returning

Went to the Pig's Ear last night with the girlfriend after hearing some great reviews on the place from friends and here on Menupages. Upon walking into the restaurant we were shown to our seats by the window on the first floor looking over the street and Trinity. For starters we had the crab and the goats cheese. Both were stunning and enjoyed every bite. For mains i had the rabbit and i have to say i was delighted with my choice. It was delicious to say the least. The rabbit, black pudding, potato and veggies went so well together i had my plate clean in no time at all. My otherhalf got the beef ribeye which was a bit of a dissappointment. The skeak itself was lovely but the thyme potato cake was so overpowering it ruined the whole plate. For desserts we had the cheesecake and the lemon rice pudding both were delicious with no complaints bar being so full leaving the place. Staff were friendly and polite without being over attentive. All in all i would certainly go back but the dissapointment of that one dish left a bitter taste

The dining room in the pigs ear is beautiful, bright and airy and full of light on an early summer evening, and although the floor is a little on the small side and all the tables were full, you feel it is quite spacious. The starters we had were the goats cheese, which was served with melba toast and a feta cheese and beetroot salad both good in taste and value, but its only cheese and does not show the chefs cooking skills only his combination of flavours which was spot on. The mains on the other hand is where the chef really showed off his cooking skills, my wife had the pork belly, she loved it but could not finish her plate of which i was only too happy to, i would of liked it to be more crispy, buy thats just my taste. I had the saddle of rabbit, but the star of the show was the hot pot which came with the dish, i would of eaten a large one as a main alone, it was excellent. Home made ice cream with our desserts rounded of a lovley meal, the staff some of the most plesent i have come across in a long time, we left into the evening very happy indeed.
