Citron @ Fitzwilliam Hotel, St Stephens Green

Citron Restaurant at The Fitzwilliam Dublin. Chic zest for life at Citron. Why is everyone smiling? There's a buzz in the air and it's coming from the haven above in Citron, our casually stunning restaurant on the mezzanine level above the lobby. It's always been a fun, funky place to eat, as you perch above, observing life below and those familiar faces coming through the hotel doors. But now there's a new excitement - a new chef extraordinaire - a new menu - a new delight on the faces of your fellow diners. Everyone is really enjoying this. That's why they're all smiling. You simply won't believe your palate as the lobster ravioli melts in your mouth. You read that this is an ossobuco veal jus bread mousse and onion baji but your other senses tell you that it's a taste of heaven. Nicely priced, elegant, convenient and, well, simply scrumptious. Citron awaits you.

The Citron Restaurant @ Fitzwilliam Hotel is very centrally located in Dublin City, close to the Stephen's Green Shopping Centre. On entering the large foyer of the hotel we were directed to the "M" floor, which I presume means mezzanine, as the restaurant forms a balcony over the foyer. We were greeted very cordially by the Concierge, who greeted us with friendly comments and took our coats, which he hung at the reception. I offered him our Menupages voucher, which he dismissed as unimportant until the final payment of the bill. I had requested a comfortable, well placed table and reminded him of this. He showed us to a table at the edge of the balcony, where we had a view of all that was going on around us and below us. The furniture was a white wickerwork style and the colours surrounding us were of lemons and limes and very appropriate to the name of the restaurant. Now seated, a very charming waitress supplied our menus and wine list. A choice of about five starters, three at least including fish, about six main courses including meat, game and fish, five desserts and tea or coffee. The deal we had bought included four courses, with €5 supplement for the "Study of Beef". Reading the menu was an experience in itself, with very unusual items included. There were combinations of meat, fish and vegetables, which were not anly mouth-watering, but a real mind test for even the most experienced foodie. We called over our waitress to inquire into quite a number of the dishes and their ingredients. She answered our questions without fault, down to describing the taste and combinations and how they were served. She knew the menu inside out and had tasted the items on it. The concierge explained later, that the chefs meet with the waiting staff and explain the food on the menu, how it is served and allow them to taste it too. We both chose seafood with my husband ordering a smoked mackerel dish and I chose lobster tortellini. Both were served beautifully and cooked to perfection. For the main course my husband chose cracklin

Very good value pre-theatre menu. Had starter and main for €20 each and a delicious glass of wine. The amuse bouche was adorable: tiny little potato chip clothes hung on a tiny line, with tiny pegs and a little laundry basket of dip. Yum! Salmon main had to be sent back as it was raw in the middle (my friend's wasn't). The starters were really good, particularly the leek soup. If you have a bad back or leg or hip avoid the chairs and book a banquette. Overall a great experience and I would definitely like to go back and try a more elaborate menu.

Citron offers fine dining at an affordable price! From first entry to leaving, the service was warm, if a little too relaxed, however this suited our evening. The portions may look dainty, however with the time taken to eat the courses, along with bread and amuse bouche, it would satisfy most appetites. The menu is well balanced, wine is appropriately priced and the service is what you would expect from a top establishment. High point - the Strawberry Soup(excellent). Low point(at a push) - the puree with the scallops - drop the parmesan! It just doesnt work.
