FACILITIES

Veggie options available Luscious Dublin Bay prawns, succulent oysters, melt in the mouth mussels, mouth-watering mackerel…just some of the delicious seafood you’ll find on menus around Ireland.

Irish people love to eat seafood when dining out; in fact, unlike our European neighbours, we eat more seafood outside the home. Perhaps this is a testament to the quality of our seafood restaurants. And for many visitors, a trip to Ireland wouldn’t be complete without sampling a few oysters and sinking a pint of the black stuff. Will cater for children Wheelchair Accessible Will accept party bookings Parking available Accept major credit cards

Unfriendly staff that failed to break a smile, bland 'pasta of the day'. Then came the desserts... a curdled creme bruleé that looked like scrambled egg and fruit crumble that was so unbelievably bitter that all 10 of us could not eat it. All of this was sent back to the kitchen, where the waiter returned to tell us that the chef says there is nothing wrong it them. Even the chocolate fondant was like a bland sponge cake, which were also left unfinished. At the end our coffees (which admittedly were the best bit of the meal) were taken off the bill while we were still charged for the curdled creme bruleé and the unbelievably sour crumbles!! The chef should take note that raspberries and red fruits are out of season in winter and should not be on the menu. Do not visit here if you are in a group more than 4, you will not be entertained.

Booked a table for 5.30pm, as tables were only available for 5.30 or 8.30. Four of us dined and had starters, mains and a couple of deserts. Service, for the most part was prompt and the food (starters of fish cakes, cheese etc) pork belly, chicken pasta, cannaloni etc.) was tasty, reasonably well presented, but were not big portions. We had French Muscadet @ €23 a bottle, some deserts and a coffee and @ €136 was neither good value or too expensive. The big dissapointment for us was the rush to get us out. Dishes were removed before all at the table were finished their corse. On one occasion an attempt was made to take a desert dish before it was finished. The bill was presented before we were finished and and altouugh were were there for only 1 and 3/4 hours were were politely asked to vacate our table. When it was pointed out to the management that we felt uncomforable for the duration of the meal because of the rush tactics he apologised...but it seriousely let the restaurant down.

I went here with my mother and two sisters. To be honest my expectations were low however I was very surprised. We all had the main and dessert. I had the hake with chorizo cream sauce it was very tasty and for dessert I had a chocolate fondant which was cooked to perfection, it was slightly bitter but the sweetness of the ice cream complimented it brilliantly. The rest of my family really enjoyed their meals also; there was no complaints which is quiet unusual for us. The atmosphere was nice for such an early sitting and the restaurant was nearly full with almost all females. The serves was good also we had a girl serving us and we found her very friendly with a good sense of humour. It has been a while now since that dinner and I am looking forward to going there again.

I brought my mum and sister here for Sunday lunch to celebrate my mums birthday. I had the roast chicken of the day, as did my mum. I was very disappointed with it. A small chicken breast, on a bed of mash, with a pitiful amount of carrots and veg. When my main arrived, I immediately asked for more gravy, which did not appear for 20 minutes, by which time I had almost finished, after fretfully looking at the waitress every 5 minutes for the duration of the meal. I had to ask again before it was eventually delivered. Very disappointing. And at €13 for a Sunday roast main, it was terrible value. The waitress made an excuse that the chef had not heard her ordering it, however, she should have noticed that I was still waiting on it. I have to say it completely ruined an already disappointing meal.I was annoyed at having to complain on what should have been a relaxing birthday lunch. In addition, my glass of white wine (Chardonnay) tasted very off and I had a suspicion it was corked. When I complained about my main course, the manager offered me a free dessert-I feel that he should have taken my main off the bill. I shared a dessert, a brownie, with my sister. We both agreed it was dry and tasteless. My sister enjoyed her main of chorizo pasta. I wont be rushing back.

Having eaten in sister restaurant Cafe Sol in Killkenny last Sunday my husband and I decided to try Sol Bistro when looking for lunch in Thomastown on Tuesday. As we had a substantial breakfast in our hotel that morning we didn't want anything too heavy and both of us opted for the spicy chicken in warm pitta. This came with chips and salad even though the menu only mentioned the salad and despite the earlier large breakfast we still cleared our plates. We stuck with water and didn't have coffees, the bill came to €19.90 which we considered good value for the quality of the food. The restaurant was pretty quite as it was after 2pm. I expect like Cafe Sol in Killkenny it has a lovely buzz in the evenings or earlier in the day for lunch. Would definitely recommend.

Really enjoyed my first visit to this restaurant, food and wine were very tasty and well presented. Portions were of a reasonable size, although fishcake starter was a little on the small side! The service was very good, efficient and friendly. There was a good choice on the Early Bird menu. Prizewise reasonable. Would recommend;)

Ate here last saturady. We both had the steak which was very tasty and delicious. It was quite busy although it is a small restaurant. The staff were friendly and there was a good atmosphere. The only thing that i didnt really like was that we were sitting near the door which when opeded made us cold. Recommended!

Ended up here by chance Saturday night. Passing by intending to eat elsewhere and realised the early bird now runs until 9.30pm!! €25 euro for 3 courses. Restaurant was very busy but the staff rearranged tables around to fit us in. All I can say is wow! Lovely food! There wasnt a complaint to be had from the 4 of us! Fish cakes, duck, steak and dessert to die for! Great food, great service! A little gem in Thomastown.
