Had our evening meal in Shimla and was a very enjoyable experience. It was the first time I ate in an indian restaurant where dishes described as mild on the menu were actually mild. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and efficient.......only negative is the customers for the takeaway needed to wait in the dining area which was slightly disruptive to the overall atmosphere. definitely a return trip planned.

Got the early bird which was great value, the food was good we have had better indian though, however for that price of €12.50 for two course we couldn't complain. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was not bad but the meal was very rushed we had barely finished our poppadoms when our starters arrived and when we had just finshed them and the mains arrived, I would have understood if the restaurant was busy but we were the only people in the place at the time. At the end of the meal we got hot towels which was a nice touch.

Very impressed with the restaurant. The food was very tasty and great value. We got the 2 course menu for E12.50 and enjoyed every bit of it. The surroundings was very cosy and comfortable, and the Indian music playing in the background was relaxing and set the overall atmosphere. The staff were very efficient and would recommend Shimla.

Atmosphere was only/barely alright. The staff were a bit rude, I had asked to keep the dips on the to have with our main course and naan. This request was ignored. I felt we were waiting unnecessarily for the main. It was very nice though

Went here for dinner yesterday. It was very quiet but recieved a nice welcome from the waiter. The restaurant was nice and warm and is cosy in size. I had the tandoori chicken to start which was freshly cooked and very tasty. Ihad the lamb balti for main with naan bread and rice. It was very tasty and fruity. The restaurant was quite busy with take away orders while iwas there. The best thing about the restaurant was the service.

My experience at Shimla was overall at positive one. They currently offer a great value early bird menu. Myself and my boyfriend's family decided to venture in and for many of us it was a first experience with Indian cuisine. The waiters were extremely helpful patiently explaining each course and its level of spiceiness to us. While we decided, fresh popadoms and various delicious sauces were left on our table which we all enjoyed. My starter was a spicy mimosa which was great as was my tomato & coriander based main course all served with a generous helping of pilau rice. My fellow diners enjoyed teriakis, byranis and kormas and everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. House wine was very keenly priced and so two bottles were enjoyed. Finally the waiters served us a complementary baby guiness each which was very much appreciated. I will definitely be returning. Only negative point was the heating in the restaurant wasn't great and it was a very cold winters night. Thank God for the spices!!!

We had planned to eat here tonight but as the weather was so bad we ordered from the take out menu and were delighted with what we got. The service was excellent with polite and friendly staff. The food was extremely tasty and traditional spices- we had the special tandoori mixed grill and the lamb jalfrezi and both did not disappoint. We will definately not only visit this restaurant again but will also order again from the take away menu. We are also very excited about their Sunday special which is 9.99 for a 3 course meal excellent value in a recession!! This is the only Indian cuisine in Kilkenny to visit.

We order take-away from Shimla a few times, but it's never been consistent. They have changed owners a few times and although the food is usually good, it always tastes very different from the last time we ordered. I order the chicken korma, which is very mild and the peshwari naan bread, which is full of sultanas. The portions tend to be large and the staff are friendly. It's very basic indian food, but they never mind if you bring your own wine along when dining in. The tables are very crowded and we had to ask other guests to move if someone had to leave the table. The tables are small, but the servers bring elaborate serving dishes with tea-light candles underneath to keep the food warm, but the tables just aren't big enough to hold them.
