I was part of a large family group that visited The Motte yesterday. We were seated in a separate conservatory section, which I hoped meant we did not disturb other diners too much. The seven under 12s in our party were seated at their own table within the conservatory. The kitchen could not have been more helpful supplying them with their own kids' menu. Judging by the empty plates leaving their table they either really enjoyed the food or we are starving them! The adults ate from the table d'hote menu. The menu has something to please all palates. The homemade bread served before the meal was outstanding and a good indication of what was to come, as was the salmon 'amuse bouche'. The Indian Spiced Chicken starter was a particular favourite, but so was the soup and the gratin of haddock. My fillet of beef was cooked exactly as I ordered it and no-one was displeased with their main course. The accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked and plentiful and the wine we chose was served perfectly. To finish it off, the restaurant had made a birthday pavlova, much to the delight of my mother. A lovely evening in a lovely restaurant - I just wish it was closer to Dublin.
