This is a fabulous restaurant with a beautiful, airy interior. We decided on the special Wine and Dine option for £50 - a 3- course meal for two with a bottle of wine. We were greeted very warmly on arrival. Starters were Garlic bread with cheese. The waiter added a little pot of pesto to the plate as he thought it would make a nice addition to the dish and it certainly did. The doughballs, which came with tomato sauce were nice. Pasta with smoked salmon in a creamy sauce was lovely as was roasted fillet of pork with a bacon, gorgonzola cheese & spinach stuffing. Desserts were what turned out to be the most delicious home made ice-cream and fabulous tiramisiu which was wrapped up very carefully for me to take away to enjoy later. This was the most enjoyable dining experience that I have had in a while and I will definitely be back. .

Very friendly staff, good value for money on set menus. Not an extensive menu. I had gnocchi for the first time, it was good but I wouldn't choose it again. My two dinner companions choose pizza and duck which they both enjoyed. I would not be in a rush to go back as the menu choices are limited.

got lovely window table which added to the overall atmomsphere. The waiter looking after us was very friendly and helpful. The food was gorgeous and good value. We went for the €50 per couple deal. which was 3 course incl bottle of wine. The only negative was upon ordering the steak was it incl onions and not mushrooms. We wanted mushrooms and the onions and they charged for the mushrooms and gave no onions. Overall it was a good dining experioence and would go again for the E50 deal

Very nice food at a very good price. We ate off the set menu which was great value for a Saturday night - 22.95 for two courses. I would definitely recommend the chicken wrapped in bacon and sage. The staff were very effieicnt and friendly and we needed to cheer ourselves up as it was so cold and icy outside. They seem to do a wide range of special offers but the a la carte menu looks good. I'll be back and next ime I'm going to try one of the pizzaa - they looked great

This restaurant has been recommended by loads of people so I booked it for my partner's surprise 30th on Sat night. The staff were great, food was great, and the it was great value. We ordered off both the main menu and the special Sat night menu, which wasn't a problem. I had the briuschetta to start which were tasty and just the right size. I had the prawn pasta for main - the prawns were fresh not frozen and very tasty. My partner had the mussels and steak, the steak was a little overdone but still tender. Everyone appeared to enjoy their food and most plates were empty. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Kilkenny

What can I say. Ate here with my partner last night and was very impressed. 50eur for 3courses + wine for 2 persons and excellent food right down the line. We hadn't booked and were asked to come back later and a table was readied for us at 9.30pm. Food was of a consistently high standard, especially the tiramisu which is just superb. Quantities were just perfect for 3 courses and the Italian house wine was very palatible. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Really nice layout and good size tables, you don't have to play draughts with wine glasses and dishes. Easily the best meal we had in Kilkenny

I must admit, my expectations were not set too high when we dashed out of the rain and into La Rivista. I had to read the sign on the door at least three times before I believed what it said " 3 courses for 2 AND a bottle of wine 50 quid " . "Ok you get what you pay for" I thought something cheap and cheerful thrown together and washed down with a bottle of vinegar. Well nothing could be further from the truth; this was a very decent meal and showed there was someone who cared in the kitchen. A hearty and Smokey leek and bacon soup was just the thing for a wet night, followed by some very tender loin pork with buttery mash and a white wine and caper sauce My companion had an understandably small but fresh antipasto and then a vegetable lasagne, a dish which is so often done badly, which was surprisingly light with al dente vegetables. A perfectly agreeable bottle of house red rounded it off nicely. For dessert we both chose Tiramisu which I was less enthusiastic about but my companion finished it with gusto. At this price the meal was exceptional value and there was also friendly and efficient service, so the next time I am in Kilkenny I will be sure to drop in again.

Our second outing to La Rivista and I have to say its fastly becomming one of my favourite restaurants! We went for the Sat nite special menu, lots of choice. I had the stuffed portabello mushrooms and they have converted me to olives :). For mains I had pasta in a gorgeous creamy sauce and there was loads of chicken in it! My 3 other diners had the steak which they said was done to a turn! I had the crumble for dessert as I enjoyed it so much the last time but 2 others had "the best tirimisu they ever tasted" :) As usual the most fantastic friendly and attentive staff! Cant wait to return!!

My husband and I went to this restaurant as our first night out since our new son was born. During the meal our sitter rang to come home that our son was ill. The team in the restaurant packed up our meal for us within minutes so that we could still dine at home. Thank you all!

Went to this restaurant with a friend for dinner last week.Have read all the good reveiws and they are in fact right! My only gripe is that on the early bird menu there were no main courses I actaully liked.. When I go italian I dont want steak or fish, so all that was left after that was pastas in creamy sauces , a veg lasagne that sounded really stodgy and pizzas. My friend felt the same so we ordered off the main menu.. The bruscetta and caprese salads were very nice.. I really loved my main course of linguine with prawns. chilli, and rocket in a tamato sauce.. My friend also enjoyed her pasta dish also. With a glass and a half bottle of wine the bill came to 60 euro. The restaurant was nearly full when we were leaving... Really enjoyed the meal but think early bird needs a re-think for those of us who like tamato based sauces!

Dined here first with family and friends on a Sunday evening. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff are extremely helpful and attentive. As I was in town for a few days I actually went back there a few times over the week and enjoyed every visit. The quality of food was superb and the value for money was outstanding - 3 course meal with a bottle of wine for 50 euro - you really can't go wrong with that. And for those not wanting a bottle of wine, there are meal deals for two and three courses available. I must say I will be recommending this eaterie to all that pass through the area.

I had dinner in this fabulous, Italian fine dining eaterie with three female friends on a Friday evening. We reserved our table earlier that day by phone without difficulty. On arrival (we were on time), our table was not quite ready. We volunteered to go for a quick drink down the street, and upon our return everything was ready. The rest of our evening was faultless. The waiting staff were knowledgeable, and very willing to help us choose from the set dinner menu, and she recommended a terrific, recession friendly Malbec for us too! The hostess was equally helpful and charming. We all felt the service was attentive, without being overpowering. The food reflected the ambiance- classy, satisfying and authentically Italian. I will definitely dine there on my next visit to the city. Grazie!

Myself, my husband and my little man (11 months) really enjoyed our meal here today. Firstly, the staff are so professional, friendly, child-friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, I could go on! Secondly, the food. We ate from the value menu and it was all delicious. I had the linguine to start and he had garlic bread. I had a pizza for the main course and he had veg lasagne with chips on the side. For dessert, I had the tiramisu and he had icecream (both presented really well). There were all types of people there, young, old, families etc and it was really busy so the atmosphere was great. We will definitely return.

Service was excellent, very friendly staff who were always there at the right time and very informative about the menu. The kitchen was timed perfectly and our courses came out bang on time. Everything was delicious especially the Chocolate & Walnut cake, it was way too nice! Will definitely be going there again in the short and distant future!

Enjoyed so much we dined here twice in one week! First we dined on a Monday evening with my son, they have an excellent value menu 3 courses and btl of wine for 2 people for 50 euros and a childrens menu available too! For starters i had the the linguini and my boyf and son had garlic bread, both were perfect. For mains i had the chicken and my boyf had the pork, both were good sized portions and unbelievably tasty! My son had chicken tenders and fries-cant really go wrong there, but the childrens menu does offer lasagna, pizza, pasta etc too. Desserts were yummy, i opted for tiramisu while the bf had the crumble and jnr had the sundae suprise. The staff were really good, even taking the time to take photos of us. Our second visit last night didnt fail to impress either, This time we brought my daughter who loved it too! Again we dined from the value menu (wine offer not avail on a sun) and it was just as good as out prior visit-great to see they are consistant! Different staff were working and again they were all friendly and took the time to talk to the children, a nice touch, The restaurant was busy-a good sign, young and old, with and without children. La Rivista is definately a favourite with our family and we will be back again very soon!

I went here on Tuesday as I was drawn in by the "Wine and Dine" special. For €50, myself and my boyfriend got 3 courses each and a bottle of wine between us. As it was so cheap I expected the food to be mediocre. I was pleasantly surprised, it was delicious! I had bruschetta to start and my boyfriend had the soup, both of which were lovely. Then for mains I had vegetarian lasagne and he had a chicken dish, these were delicious, absolutely delicious. We both had ice cream for dessert. The bottle of wine was really nice too and the service was great, the waitress was really friendly. I was really happy with the whole meal and couldn't believe that we got such good food for such a cheap price. Definitely a great choice!!

This restaurant is by far the best in Kilkenny for Italian food! It's a broad menu that doesn't leave you with just pasta or pizza choices. The caesar salad was lovely as were the meatballs! The service was great! We were made feel really comfortable and looked after something thats not always on offer these days! the value was amazin! for 4 of us we had a 3 course meal with 2 bottles of wine for 25 euro each!!I will definitly be returning!

A real good find in Kilkenny! La Rivista is a restaurant we 'happened' upon, and I must say we were very impressed. Our waiter was excellent, friendly and helpful, even recommending a few good bars in Kilkenny! The menu is great, lots of choices! The food was fresh and tasty, and very good on price. A must!

It was so good, I've got to get straight to the best aspect of this dining experience...The service in this restaurant is second to none. It was fantastic. Apart from a night in Gordon Ramsay's in Claridge's of London, I've never been made feel more relaxed in a restaurant. The food is quite good too, the Diavolo pizza lived up to its name - that was one spicy pizza but also very tasty. My partner's pasta dish was very satisfying too. The decor is very very tasteful and the value for money is excellent. This is the perfect spot for a meal before going out for a few drinks in Kilkenny.

Food is lovely. The onion tart to start. Bit cold for my liking but think that was how it was meant to be. had musroom pesto pasta. was lovely although the pasta was too undercooked. my boyfriend loved all his, including an order of the potatoes with chorizo!! One complaint on the coffee menu it says 2€ coffee (coffee with a shot of espresso is how it is described on the menu) and espresso 2.50€ asked the waiter why it was cheaper to get a coffee with espresso then an espresso. we cheekily ordered the 2€ espresso with no coffee!!and the waiter laughed and agreed that it made no sense. As we were paying our bill with another waitress she explained it was really written badly and that she should really take it off the bill. she said this as she was processing the bill, that included 2.50 for the espresso. We left w/o leaving a tip. and very angry!

This restaurant is a must visit for anyone dining out in kilkenny be it residents ,visitors or tourists. The food is fabulous, second to none. Myself and my better half dined there Valentines night for dinner at eight and were seated on the dot of eight even though the retaurant was very busy, service was fast and efficient, great selection on the menu both food and wine. Decor is excellent now as compared to before it's more warmly now if there's such a word. Will definitely be back.

Both of us ate from the 3 course set menu. apx €25 each. Starters were lovely especially the creamed mushrooms with garlic toast. My boyfriends pizza toppings for mains were adjusted to his taste with no hassle or extra charge. My chicken caesar was good with very good quality cheese. The deserts were very well presented and my apple and berry crumble came with a small side dish of cream and custard and was absolutely divine. We ate early in the evening and so it was extremely quite so service was attentive and friendly. Couldn't vouch for whether that would be the same at peak times. All in all for a weeknight we ate very well for very little.
