My partner and I ate in La Perla on a recent weekend away in Lyrath. The food was certainly not the standard of a 5 star hotel restuarant. When we sat down we asked for a jug of water. They poured the water into the white wine glasses and when we ordered white wine, they served it in the red wine glasses. I had the risotto to start which was quite nice. My partner had the piri piri prawns which in his opinion, were ordinary. For our main we had the sirloinsteak and I can't remember if he had veal or venison... anyway... when the dishes came out, they were just 2 plates of brown food. No presentation or flair. It was just the meat with the sauce on top (the steak had a mushroom and onions on top but they were also brown). The side vegetable dish was poor - baby potatoes and carrots & mange tout. The dessert menu completely lacked variety and was uninspiring. Nearly everything on it consisted of fruit or berries. There was no chocolate dessert! We were left waiting long times between courses. When we asked for the bill, we had to ask again 25 mins later as it never arrived. We asked the same waitress again and it never dawned on her that we had asked for it nearly half an hour earlier. The deal was €50 for 3 courses or €55 for 4 courses which seemed reasonable but after we'd eaten there it seemed poor value. Our experience in La Perla was a very frustrating one.

Stayed at this hotel for few days while here we had dinner at La Perla. From the moment we were brought to our seat staff looked after us very well. The menu has good choices. I had goat cheese for starters it was lovely also my chicken mains and dessert was delicious. Would recommend this place for food.

My husband and I ate at La Perla while enjoying a fabulous break at Lyrath Estate recently. I'm often skeptical about hotel restaurants, particularly if dinner is included as part of the overall deal, La Perla thankfully changed my opinion. The crisp white linen tablecloths and napkins and attentive service gave it the feel of a top class restaurant and the food matched that. I had the chicken, mushroom and leek in a filo pastry parcel starter which I reluctantly let my husband try. He chose the Piri Piri spiced prawns with a red pepper coulis which he declared just as good. For mains I opted for the pan fried fillet of sea bass with mixed peppers, an excellent choice on my part. My husband chose the fillet of Angus beef, he thought the gravy a little gloopy but not so that it took away from the melt in the mouth beef. We didn't manage to eat all of the new potatoes or carrots and green beans which were served on the side but only because we were leaving room for dessert. I went for the lemon citrus tart and my husband the trio of home-made ice cream, both were deliciously fresh tasting and flavorsome. For wine, we went for a half bottle each of the Le Rime Chardonay/Pinot Grigio which complemented my meal perfectly, my husband had the Sacred Hill Shiraz/Cabernet which was also considered an excellent companion for the chosen courses. Followed by two freshly brewed strong black coffees, it was an excellent evening and certainly a restaurant to change your opinion on hotel dining for evening meals.

I cannot say enough about this place - absolutely magic from the minute you enter the estate. I have eaten in this restaurant 4 times since it opened and each time - more impressed than the last - something that's hard to achieve. It's a beautiful place and the atmosphere is second to none. I would highly recommend anything from the menu!

This was my second time going to la perla. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This time it was even better. My friend and I had decided to share the starters. We ordered the portabello mushrooms and the goats cheese tartlet. They were both very nice and beautifully presented. We really enjoyed the two of them. For my main I ordered the shellfish saffron risotto. My god it was amazing! Definately one of my favourite dishes I'v ever had. I couldn't say a bad word about it. Oh and the portion was very generious. Some how I managed to order a third course - dessert, mainly throught curiosity but when It came you'd think I'd never been fed! The pavlova was light and airy with a wonderful chew inside. The staff were friendly and happily offered their recommendations. I look forward to my return.

Great meal here with my partner. The decor is rather dull but the dull atmosphere is more than compensated by the excellent food and professional service, I had the halibut for main and it was excellent and beautifully presented. My partner had the venison which she said was the best she ever tasted. Full marks for the service which was friendly and professional.

Dined here with my mother and we decided to push the boat out and go for the 4 courses. The starters were fresh and tasty and the soup was lovely and homey. My mother's steak was cooked to perfection and my chicken was juicy. Desserts were also fantastic. All this was accompanied with excellent service and lovely wine made for a really enjoyable evening.

Wonderful. I would have no problem recommending this hotel to any of my friends for an evening meal, My father called in about 2 months ago and is still talking about it. My partner and I went in for a quick bite on a Wednesday or Thursday evening. She had the antipasto as a main meal which was very well presented, I had the fillet which was cooked perfectly and we shared a cheese board to finish it off. The staff were very polite but did come over to the table to check a bit too often. This is not the cheapest please to eat in Kilkenny but it is good value if you’re looking for good food. I will be returning.

We had dinner here on Saturday night and it really was excellent. Great service, good attention to detail both on and off the plate. Good portion control but decent portions for all that. The menu is not large but what they do, they do really well. We particularly enjoyed the sea bass with smoked salmon risotto, the duck confit in filo parcel, the mushroom "spriing roll" which accompanied the sirloin. The deserts were also excellent with the bailey's brulee and the champagne jelly with summer berries being both winners. I definately will be back.

this is a must, we went there when it first opened, fell in love... we ended up booking our wedding there, of 180 guests and oh my god if we tried to pick a fault we couldn't nor could any of our guests, we have been to the bar on numerous occasions for lunch always excellent, depending sometimes if u get a bad waiter/waitress... the restaurant is fantastic... the thai restaurant is superb, we also had our daughters communion there last year for 40 people and lyrath could not have done any more us... i would HIGHLY reccommend this hotel, and know that we will be dining there for many years to come.... LOVE IT

Been here a few times before and always found it great..This time however the service was not up to scratch..My order arriving and my three companions delayed ..It finally took forty five minutes for their food to land on the table..Also staff seemed clumsy today..Food as usual top class (if a little pricey) but I'll continue to visit..

I found the Lyrath a little pricey but great service and quality food. I had the Linguini of crabmeat to start and it was delicious. Followed by the steak which was superb and cooked to perfection. The chocolate pyramid is definitely for chocolate lovers a little heavy maybe. A lovely dining experience, would highly recommend.

I was here a couple of months ago for my sister's confirmation. There was around 50 of us and we had most of the restaurant to ourselves. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. I had the smoked chicken ceaser salad for starter. I couldn't fault it. I choose the seabass for mains which was delicous. Even the kids menu was not your usually chicken nuggets and chips. They had lots of choice but the portions were really too big for kids. I can't wait to go back and sample the full menu!
