I've eaten here for lunch on numerous occasions (never for dinner). As a venue for lunch I think it is really good. The last time I went I was with two friends. I went for the Vol au Vents, which were served with generous servings of chips and salad and is my favourite. I once tried something else and was disappointed so I always stick to the vol au vents. One of my friends had the shepherd's pie and the other chose fish and chips. Both of my friends really enjoyed their food. Although we were rather full we were tempted by the desserts! We ordered a death by chocolate, an apple pie and a banoffi pie. I thought the death by chocolate was a little bit dry and therefore needed the cream and ice-cream that came with it. The apple pie was perfect! Nice quantity of apple and not too much pastry – just the right amount. I'm not an expert in banoffi pie so I can't judge it but my friend really liked it. All desserts came with cream and/or ice-cream which was great. The food is simple but good and served reasonably quickly. The dishes are not too adventurous, just simple good pub-food. Service was good and the were staff friendly. The main negative is the price of the food. Unfortunately, over the years the prices have gone up and are a bit pricey considering how they are just simple dishes. However, they are very filling so they are (just about) worth it!! I would definitely recommend this place for lunch (especially the vol au vents!!).

Our last trip here both my wife and I went for the Vol au Vents, which were served with generous servings of chips and salad. Ate here on a Saturday afternoon during the Arts Festival. The place was relatively busy and popular for food. Good atmosphere with live music. When we arrived (group of 5), the main lounge area was full so we tried to look for a seat in the beer garden, this was full too so we found ourselves a seat in the empty cave/tavern part of the premises. No staff member greeted us or offered to seat us, we had to help ourselves. After waiting a few minutes no member of staff (despite 3 or 4 having seen us) gave us menus..we went and got them ourselves. Eventually we managed to order our food and drinks. The food was very quick arriving to our table which was great because we were starving. Staff member wasn't very friendly..literally took the order and left! Most dishes were identical - portion of skinny fried chips, side salad mix chopped up tiny (!), then the individual meat/fish dish added onto it. We ordered fish cakes, chicken breat, lasange and vol-au-vent. The portion size was decent, plenty big. It wasn't anything special but decent pub grub, we all liked the taste anyway! Each dish cost on average €11, perhaps a bit steep. Another staff member cleared our dishes and we asked for dessert menus which eventually came. This staff member was verging on rude, no greeting, no smile or any concept of good service. Literally 2 minutes later, she returned to take our orders so we hurried into picking something (€5 each, again expensive for what came out), nothing spectacular and one member of our group got the wrong dessert but we decided to eat it anyway and leave once we settle our bill. Overall, a good atmosphere in the place, impressive building, food was decent although bordering on the expensive side for what is was. Service was incredibly poor and unfriendly and this is the main deterrent for me returning to Kytelers in the future. Very disappoing overall.

Had meal here yesterday evening. It was busy for food and there was a good vibe in the bar. I had beef for mains and she had chicken. Both were delicous and cooked to perfection. Good homecooked food. No complaints amd will call back when in the area again.

We ate here for lunch on a Saturday. It was pretty empty compared to the place across the road which was jointed. I wasn't too hungry so ordered a toasted special and himself had the chicken vol-au-vents. His meal was tasty and for €11.50 wasn't bad value. My sandwich was just okay, not very tasty and at €5.95 a bit on the expensive side. Service was fast and friendly.

Four of us went to Kytelers for food the last Saturday in March I have been there a few times for a few pints but had never eaten there. We all ordered soup which was find but there was no bread with it, so I asked for it and it came just as the main courses was delivered. I got the steak and chips (rare – medium) but it came out black some of the other dinners looked like they were sitting under a hot plate for the past 2 hours, Price wise it was cheep but I think they could do so much more. In short Kytelers is a nice place for soup and a great pub for a few pints.

I have been in the Kytelers Inn 3 times in the last few weeks. The first two times i was really disappointed, the food was dry and i didn`t really like the taste. It seemed kind of overheated. I thought i give it one last try and i couldn`t have made a better decision. The food was really great when i went there last time. I was so impressed, i even asked for the chef on that night. So for me it`s obviously, u should only visit that restaurant when that chef is working. He knows how to deal with food and he creates magical food out of an boring menu. Usually they say u should stop when you reach the top, in this case... I will go there again and enjoy another food celebration.

the restaurant itself is lovely to be honest the food hasnt been great in a while.. fairly decent size portions but the food is really just slopped on the plate, i had the vol-au-vant and it was all dripping down the side of the plate and onto the table, not very appealing... the kids chips were not cooked right thru and the waitress seemed unimpressed at the sheere chore of bringing it back 2 the kitchen, really needs to get back 2 the old standard

Kyteler's Inn is a nice place to stop and have a late lunch, because it's very crowded during lunch and dinner hours. It's usually packed full of tourists, who are usually very nice and the live traditional music is actually very fun! We both ordered the steak and chips and it was good. My steak was a little overdone (I did ask for 'well done'), but it was very dry. It's not very expensive and they have a well-stocked bar. If you visit Kilkenny city, I would highly recommend visiting here for at least one dinner, because the atmosphere is lively and exciting; it's kinda corny at times because they cater to tourists so often, but it's fun if you take it for what it is.
