Food Works 2.0 star review: With a reservation for Saturday night, we arrived on time & were seated immediately. We were hoping to order from the set menu. When I asked if we could have that menu I was told abruptly – that finished at 7pm. We had checked it out earlier during the day where it is displayed on the door without any time specifications. Not so friendly a start.
The menu we were given had limited choice of 6 starters and 7 main courses – not the same as the ones listed on the website. Picky eaters or those with dietary restrictions could find it difficult to find suitable food.
The crab starter was tasty as was the pear & feta salad. 3 of the group had hake and the fish portion sizes varied a lot with one being at least 50% bigger than the other 2. A good sized lean sirloin steak was cooked as requested. 2 small dishes of baby potatoes were brought and there were no options to order vegetables as sides.
Desserts Tart tatin & Chocolate terrine desserts were sweet. Although we requested tea & coffee to be brought with the desserts, the ice cream had completely melted before these were brought.

The restaurant was busy & extremely noisy, we had difficulty hearing our conversation at a small table of 4. Service was functional not friendly. So although the food is good, there were too many niggles for us to return.

Food Works 3.0 star review: I came down to meet two friends in Kilkenny and they took me here. I was deeply disappointed with both the service and my main course. Firstly the service for the most part was provided an unsmiling young woman. I chose lamb for my main as did one of my friends the other opting for fish and chips. My companions did enjoy their mains whilst mine was extremely tough and chewy. Needless to say I left it unfinished. When I mentioned this to the above server on clearing I recieved no answer whatsoever and that was that. The only saving grace was the baked alaska desert which was very nice indeed. Atmosphere was buzzy in a bright airy dining room. Based on todays visit I will not be returning oweing to the lack of recognition of my complaint.

Food Works 4.0 star review: We visited Food Works early on the Saturday of the bank holiday weekend because of a recommendation from a friend that lives in Kilkenny
And to be honest we are delighted we decided to try it as this restaurant is off the beat and track of most tourists which is a bit of a pity because the atmosphere suffers a bit because the restaurant is not that busy but i have to say that if this restaurant was in a better location you would not be able to get a table.
There specials at the moment include a 3 course meal with a bottle of wine for two for 50 euro , its simply fantastic value as there is steak, scallops and plenty more that you would expect to see on more expensive menu's around town.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant is bright and if anything a little under decorated but the real story here is the food and the value.
If you live or are just visiting Kilkenny give it a go you won't be disappointed.

Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
