This was the second time in a month at Campagne: fantastic food and great value (early bird menu). The service was brilliant, the hostess knows wines like few and made perfect recommendations. The venison (slow cooked for 23 hours!) can't be beaten and the whole experience is very high class, yet laid back. Staff were extremely pleasant even when we stayed on after the meal was finished to chat amongst ourselves, they continued to bring water to the table. We'll definitely return on a regular basis.

This is, hands down, the best restaurant I have been to in Ireland. The menu is simple, and the food is cooked absolutely perfectly. The service is the right mix of attentiveness without intrusion. The restaurant itself has terrific acoustics so that even if it is full, you wouldn't know that there was anyone else in the house. The prices are on the higher end, but are eminently reasonable considering the very high quality of the food. If you are in Kilkenny you MUST visit this establishment.

I was surprised at the location of this fantastic restaurant. It's on the bottom floor of a small block of apartments which are in dire need of a lick of paint. From the outside the whole area looks pretty run down and even the awnings of the restaurant are faded and drab. There's a serious lack of appeal on first impressions. However once inside, it's a different story altogether. The staff are friendly, the room is pleasant and airy. The tables are just a little closer than I'd like but not much different than every other restaurant in that respect. The early bird menu gives a surprisingly generous 5 choices for each course. All courses were excellent and of a very high standard. The only complaint I would have is that the pork belly was a little dry, but with the sauce it was still very tasty. I was surprised, given the standard of cooking and service this restaurant offers, that we had to pour own own wine throughout the meal, but overall excellent value. I would definitely return.

One of the best meals I have ever had. I could not fault it. I believe the chef came from one of the top Dublin Restuarants and if so he brought every quality from it and more. Really friendly staff and great atmosphere. The menu was very good and for the quality was reasonably priced. I have Chicken Raviolo for starters and Duck in a cherry sauce for mains and the tastes were incrediable. The people I was with had a mixture of steak, lamb and pasta dishes and theirs was equally good. I really cant say more than 5 stars and will be back as soon as I get an opportunity to head back tom Kilkenny.

We had a lovely dinner here last night and it deserves 5 stars all round! The welcome was warm and friendly and the atmosphere buzzing! We ate off the earlybird menu and everything we had (chicken liver parfait starter, cod main and cappuccino mousse dessert for me, beef salad starter, rabbit main and rhubarb trifle for him) was really tasty, very well presented and served with a smile! Our final bill was €79.60, great value for 3 courses each, 2 coffees, 2 glasses of wine and 2 soft drinks. Well worth a detour if you find yourself in this part of the country!

Had lunch here with a friend and it was delicious. Have been here before so knew what to expect. The breads are amazing although I wished the butter had been at room temperature so it was spreadable. Had the haddock for starter which was delicious but was underwhelmed by the presentation - it was just sitting on the plate with an soft egg beside it- no garnish or colour - might have been a mistake. Had the chicken for the main course and it was so juicy as always. The staff are excellent and the dining room is very sophisticated and plush compared to most places in Kilkenny.

Ate here with 3 friends, we found the dining room spacious, comfortable and the service delightful. I had the smoked haddock to start and the seabass as a main. The starter was really delicious and the seabass was a fillet just a little on the dry side. I am a fan of fish on the bone for this reason but there was no option on the menu. All flavours came together beautifully. I will definitely be back, for a good standard of food I thought it was very well priced.

Absolutely gorgeous restaurant but pricey. The food is lovely but not for the big eaters. What you get is lovely. The staf are very friendly and helpful. Would go back on a voucher

I have visited Campagne a few times and have always enjoyed the whole experience from the warm welcome and the attentive service. The chacuterie plate was amazing with a taste explosion in every bite, and the veal cutlet was tender and juicy as should be expected.... I really love the home made Bread. I also went for the cheese plate and found the selection to be good, my only slight niggle would be cheese was served cold, H&S issue I know but I do like chese at room temp to bring out the flavours.... a good selection of wine at resonable prices. I would highly recommend a visit.

Frenchducky is nuts. This place is fantastic. We're lucky enough to live close by and eat there regularly. Staff get friendly vs professional balance just right. The only negative comment is that Campagne has ruined eating out in other restaurants for us as we're constantly comparing the food and service in other establishments negatively with what is on offer in Gashouse Lane.

I had heard a lot about this award winning restaurant and it definitely lived up to it's title. The person dining with me was ceoliac. The staff in this restaurant couldn't do enough. The dietary requirement was met from all angles. It was this level of dedication and service that impressed me. The food was exceptional and divine.

my wife qnd myself were in kilkenny a few weeks ago and decided to go to campagne.Having read previous reviews i thought it would be a top notch restaurant. I am glad to say we were both delighted. The early bird is well priced and the food was delicious. My wife had the haddock and I had the chicken liver - so deilcate I am salivating again just thinking about it. Our mains consisted of lamb and pork belly and again all was very much to our liking. One thing we both agreed on is that the meal size was perfect (none of your beauty but lacking in substance). I bowed out for desert and my wife had a lemon parfait -slightly too sour, but still devoued. I would have no hesitation in recomending this restaurant and most especially the early bird which I think is great value for such a quality restaurant

I was really looking forward to Campagne having heard all the Michelin associated hype but was sadly dissapointed. The wine list and menu seemed really promising but it wasn't the night we had envisaged. We opted for the early bird menu, my boyfriend's goats cheese salad was oily, over salted and lacking any kind of finesse. My haddock fish cake was smoked (not mentioned on the menu) and the spring onion hollandaise a gloopy addition to the overpowering smokieness, coupled with the poached egg it was far too rich for a starter. My lamb was tough and appart from some nice vegtables reminded me of pub carvery fair, my boyfriend's suckling pig faired better. Possibly I should have gone for the safe bet and had the chicken. Dessert was a redeeming feature, my raspberry was well executed and well presented, my boyfriend seemed to enjoy his lemon cherry sponge. Unfortunately the meal on the whole did not sit well with me, the over richness of the hollandaise and toughness of my lamb leaving me with a slightly queasy feeling as we paid the bill. The waiters over attentive to the point of annoyance, kept refilling our glasses every 5 minutes and interrupting our conversation every time asking us how the meal was, unfortuneatly they did eventually leave us alone when we finished eating, so much so that we had to go to the front desk to get anyone to let us pay the bill. Not a bad restaraunt but really does not live up to the hype.

Great variety in the food. Very unusual starter of smoked hake with poached egg - sound strange but would definitely recommend it - really good. Beef also great. Ideal for a special night out. I attended with a large group and everyone was very happy with the restaurant

Campagne is certainly the jewel in the Marble City’s crown. The food and service is stunning, refreshingly reminding you that you need not stay in the capital city for high quality dining. I visited Campagne on a Friday evening and availed of the Early Bird Menu which runs until 7pm. The selection of food on this menu is excellently balanced and extensive – definitely not a punishment for availing of the better value option. Each of our party of six had starters which ranged from smoked haddock sausage, to veal, scallops and goats cheese, among others. For mains we chose the rabbit, slow cooked veal, chicken and duck dishes, each of which was superb in terms of presentation and taste. (A few words on the veal……melt in your mouth fabulous!) The side order of extra creamy buttery mash also went down a treat. Not all of us had the dessert but for those of us willing to make the extra effort to create some space, the Crème Brule and Passion Fruit Soufle were both fantastic. Light, flavoursome and ample enough to share. The house wines here are excellent too – we had both red and white and again neither was a compromise when it came to quality. The Early Bird is €24 for two courses and €28 for three courses. Service was efficient, warm and attentive, yet unobtrusive. We were allowed to sip up the last of our wine and water at our leisure long after our plates had been mopped! Having made a reservation to go back in two weeks time I am thoroughly looking forward to revisiting this little gem again.

2 of us ate here on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is well laid out and even though it was full to bursting the atmosphere or excellent service didn't suffer. While we perused our menus we nibbled on some beautiful bread. I hoped this was a sign of good things to come as I had been really looking forward to this meal. To start I had the goats cheese and beetroot salad and my partner had the scallops and chicken wings. Both dishes were excellent. A very young goats cheese just melted in the mouth and all the flavours of the dish including rocket, apple and hazelnut worked really well. My partner was amazed to find his wings deboned but still holding their shape and he loved the lightly spiced pumpkin puree that came with the dish. For main course we both ordered the fillet steak. Upon taking his first mouthful my partner declared this to be the best meal of his life, I had to agree. Both steaks were perfectly cooked and came with a staggering array of vegetables including a mushroom duxelle, celeriac, carrot, cabbage and pomme puree. For dessert we both had the cheese board and 2 very good coffees. In total we paid €128 for all of this and a bottle of house red. Fantastic value! If you've been meaning to try this place then I'd urge you to book a table now, it's amazing.

Tucked away in a quiet part of Kilkenny. Had lunch here on Sunday & was very impressed. Good menu, lovely food & good service. The menu for me was perfect but could be limiting for some people – artichoke soup, shin of beef, venison. My mother had pretty much no option for starter or main course as a process of elimination from what she wouldn’t eat. The venison was wonderful, tender & gamey enough to be rich without being overpowering. Pork Belly for mains was lovely, a little bit more fat than meat but wonderfully crispy. However the portion was tiny, too small I felt for main course. Portions was just about adequate. Mum settled on Hake with poached egg for starter, which was nice but she wouldn’t have opted for this given other choices on the starter menu. She had chicken for mains which she declared lovely – juicy & moist. There was a good wine list that had some very competitive prices to choice from. Service was second to know – text book perfect. Overall okay value for money.

4 people dined on a thursday evening. We all ate off the early bird menu. Goats cheese, pigs trotter, venison and fish cakes were the starters (but only after the delicious homemade bread) All were very good, the fish cakes taking the top prize. Main course of beef, venison, pork belly and john dory. All the dishes were tasty. The chef has (as in many restaurants at the moment) chosen to use cheap cuts of meat. But they were all perpared excellently. The deserts were creme brulle, tirimasu and pavlova. All again very good. Campagne is a top restaurant with all aspects covered. It is hard to find fault with the food, service and surroundings.

My partner and I booked this on a weekend from Dublin, as we'd heard great things about it. It's tucked away near a shopoing centre in Kilkenny, and I did not find the decor and ambience all that attractive. However, the food was outstanding - as good and better than any Michelin Star stuff in Dublin. I won't go into a lot of detail - just to say that the ingredients of all the dishes we tried were perfect. Everything was perfectly cooked, and presented in a modern, "cheffywithoutbeingoverthetop" way. We had starters and mains, and a decent bottle of wine - total bill was €106, which is very good value compared to this standard of food in Dublin. It's worth booking Camapgne if you are in Kilkenny.

Had Sunday lunch here last weekend and was very impressed. The lunch menu is brilliant value. I cannot recommend highly enough the smoked haddock and poached egg starter. A little unusual but works so well. Had the lamb for main course. The meat was so tender, really melt in your mouth. Food is great, and such good value. Would love to go back and try their dinner menu.

The food is amazing however quite pricey unless your going for an early bird etc. I would def go back for every special occasion in the future but it wouldnt be a weekend haunt. Service very professional the only downfall is that I felt I was sitting on top of the people beside me, certainly could have joined in on their conversation...

We have eaten here 4 or 5 times since it opened and we can recommend it highly. The food is divine, the service is excellent and it is a joy to eat here. It is in fact so good you have to be quick to book a table as it regularly sells out. The Sunday lunch is a great menu and exceptional value for the standard of food that can only be classed as Michelin quality.
