I've visited La Cala five times now, once at lunch time, twice in early afternoon, and twice in the evening. This restaurant is good overall, the menu is wide-ranging and suits all palates, and Spanish food is always vegetarian-friendly. Service has been good on each occasion: friendly and efficient. Opening hours are unusual though, for example, they are closed all day Sunday, and on Saturday they only open at 4.30pm. However, go to La Cala for a rough and ready experience of tapas, and the specials are always worth a look. I've had the calamari once or twice, unfortunately it was rubbery both times, whitebait was good, salty and delicious, patatas bravas were hot and plentiful, with a nice piquant sauce. Despite the apparently strange combination, spanish sausage works well with red wine sauce, so try them if you can. Albondigas (meatballs) were a little bland, maybe more seasoning would have helped. Same for Spanish tortilla, this was bland and tasteless. Salads are wonderful however, authentic too. Desserts are fantastic (brownies, tiramisu, etc) and are generous considering the cheap price (3.50euros). While the decor and layout is rudimentary (and can be a little cold on a bad day), the food and service make La Cala a little gem.

We love La Cala, They serve spanish food the way it tastes in spain, prices are great and the staff welcoming. The place is uncomplicated and perfect for a visit with friends sharing a few plates of gorgeous tapas. Our favourites are the goat cheese salad, the chorizo in red wine sauce, potatoes with egg and ham and the lamb cutlets. Oh and the pinxos with mushroom and garlic are amazing. Enjoy this gem!

Went on a Thursday night with two girlfriends who recommended it. I didn't know what to expect after reading a few of the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. They had an early bird deal of 3 small tapa's for €10 so we went for 6 small tapa's + the lamb cutlets and some patatas bravas. The overall standard was really good, I'm not an expert on Tapa's so I can't say how authentic it was but I really enjoyed my choices of the Calamari (a good generous portion) and the huevos estrellados and I couldn't stay away from the sauce on the meatballs. The service and the atmosphere were both fine, faded into the background really. We shared a lovely bottle of red and managed to finish most of the tapa's (we vowed not to order the patatas bravas next time). The bill came in very reasonably at just under €60. Will be back for sure.
