Befor I begin, I have to say I have eaten here before about a year ago and it was lovely. But I visited the pub yesterday evening with a friend of mine. The pub was fairly empty which as ok with us as we knew we'd get served quicker. There was an awful breeze blowing through the place though so we were quite cold. My friend ordered the garlic bread for starters and half roast chicken wrapped in bacon and chips while I orded the texas burger. His starter came pretty quickly and the waitress was lovely. My friend did notice a weird taste from his milk and I ordered a DCoke (No complaints!) He enjoyed the Garlic bread his only complant was there wasn't enough Garlic on it and the bread was very hard. But very big portion! Our main came fairly soon after... This was bad. My burger came out. The chicken fillet was so dry I nearly choked I also had to out about 5 pkts of ketchup on it to actually eat it. They had an onion ring on it which had grease pouring out of it. The half chicken on a plate and eh "wrapped in bacon?" no no... more like a rasher thrown on the plate beside the pathetic chickn. What really annoyed us was the bowl of "chips" they left... THey were very obviously refired needless to say we did not eat them ... The management didnt even notice our half full plates when they collected them instead asked us did we want desert . I decided not to have any as I noticed most of the cooking staff had gone home and didnt know whet to exepct from the desert menu. I like swifts as a pub but I have to say they have seriously come down in their food... They used to hve gorgeous food on offer. even their menu's were tatty. I also had lunch here a while back and I got a wrap and chips. The wrap was burned and we got 5 chips each yea FIVE !!! I would avoid this pace until they go back to their old standard .

It was a Sunday evening around half five and we decided to pop into Swifts for our evening meal. We ordered our drinks and our meals. After about a half hour the food arrived. At this stage we were still waiting on the three soft drinks we ordered. I had the Half Roast Chicken with herb stuffing and gravy. The Chicken was not hot and when I lifted it up to see where the stuffing was to my surprise there wasn't any. we had ordered side orders and they never came we had to ask for them a couple of times and when the Onion rings arrived they were in soggy batter and the grease was visible on the dish. We got four on the dish and I returned them and asked for fresh ones but they said that was the last of them. my Husband ordered the pick of plenty it is nine euro and all it is for it is two very small chicken wings two miniature spring rolls two small breaded Mushrooms and one onion ring all Deep Fried with chips and wedges. that was also disgraceful. My Mother ordered the Lasagna and it was hot at least but burnt. Service is really bad and very frustrating. I don't normally complain but when i approached a member of staff and explained that the chicken was not hot and there was no stuffing his reply was well it is always served with stuffing and if i wanted he could heat it up for me but he could not get another meal for me. I felt he was suggesting that I had eaten the stuffing and was complaining that I got none. I refuse to eat reheated Chicken any where as food can only be reheated once. He eventually removed the Chicken from our Bill but our bill total came to €52 for two adults and one child and there was more food left on the plate that was not edible. I will not be going back to Swifts and none of my Family will be either. Very disappointed with the treatment when we complained.

Recently on a visit to Newbridge after hearing on local radio about breakfast at Swifts we decided to try it out. Two adults and 3 kids. It was 12.30 on Sat afternoon; on arrival the place was empty..."bad Sign". Anyway I ordered the full Irish, a full veggie breakfast, two minis and toasted sausage sandwich. After nearly half an hour, the food arrived, one plate at a time by the same waitress. With 3 other staff walking around. My god what a disappointment. Bacon was cremated, dripping in oil, chipolata sausages deep fried, black & white pudding deep fried, mushrooms, bubbly eggs again deep fried...what a shame. The nicest part of the breakfast was the toast. Sorry but we won’t be returning to Swifts for breakfast or recommending it

I eat here regularly since I've moved down from Dublin and I can see why it's one of the most popular places in Newbridge. The carvery is delicious, the portions are generous and the staff are very welcoming. I also find it's great value for money.
