An excellent restaurant with friendly and very helpful service. Particularly helpful with wine selection, supplying us with a number of wines to try before we chose. Steaks were cooked to our exact requirements, which were all different. There were a couple of things on the menu which thy had run out of for the second sitting but where one item on a starter was not available and a member of our party ordered another starter, they sent out the original starter as well free, a nice touch I thought.

This ismy first menupages review and has been motivated by a really satisfactory dining experience at Maximillian's. My wife and I went here last Monday night , 14th Mat 12, with our recently purchased menu pages voucher. The voucher was for a 3 course a la carte meal for two with a glass of wine each to boot. There was no difficulty when we requested a bottle of beer each rather than the glass of wine and the two cold beers arrived immediately. We ordered a bottle of Mendoza Malbec to accompany our meal which was more than satisfactory for the price. We shared starters, prawns pil pil and mussels in white wine and cream sauce. The prawns were excellent, really fresh and crunchy and the dish well presented. The mussels were large and fresh and were served with two little Garlic bread toasties on the side, which mopped up the really tasty wine sauce nicely. Most places get the wine sauce wrong, it is usually too salty, but this was really good. We were both hungry so we both ordered the surf n Turf mains. We don't usually enjoy our steaks char-grilled, preferring to ask to have it pan roasted. Our waiter, Adrian, who didn't miss a beat all night and who's obvious experience has allowed him find that perfect balance of banter and 'back off', had no difficulty with our request. However, he did sings the praises of Maximillian's char grilled fillet and I deferred to his better knowledge ordering one char grilled and the other pan roasted. My aversoin to char grilled steak is because quite often it gets dried out even when cooked med rare and the flavour of the meat can be overwhelmed by that charred flavour, if the grill has been too busy. I was not disappointed however and can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed my first juicy char grilled steak in a long time. The meat was excellent in itself and both were cooked perfectly to order. The two large chargrilled unshelled tiger prawns that topped the fillet tower set the look of the dish off very well and we were not left wanting for a finger bowl.
