Availed of the early bird which has two courses for €20. Nice selection on the menu, something for everyone. The food was great, could not fault it and our argentinian malbec helped wash it down well. The atmosphere was fine, service was efficient and great value for money. The only thing I would fault is all the stairs! I will return!

Great choice on the menu - something for everyone. Good hearty portions and top quality food at fair prices. Service was friendly and professional and the surroundings pleasant. What more do you want?!

I agree with the previous comments, lived in Galway for three years and this restaurant was my favourite treat! However, from visits made back there within the last two years the service has changed significantly, young students waiters with a lack of understanding on proper service are now the norm. The food portions have decreased and the food is not hot enough to serve in my opinion, how hard is it to ensure that food is placed on a hot plate??? it is such a shame to see this restaurant failing. After my last visit to this restaurant today i can honestly say that i will not be returning. Disappointing visit.

it used be my familys favourite but the service has just went downhill and while other places are decreasing there prices, these are always increasing an the portions seem to get smaller every time. i do like the food as i ordered the duck when i was there this time and it was really gud, just very plain on its own. my mum is a regurlar in here 2 and finds the same problems.

This used to be my favourite restaurant but i think the service has really went downhill, I think because this hotel is quiet popular they dont feel the need to value customers. I have decided not to dine here anymore because of this, We would have used this restaurant for many years for every birthday, anniversary and special occasion but the lack of service and respect to customers has made me stop eating here. The food is quiet nice but again quiet expensive for what you are getting, when you order the steak all you get is the steak and then you have to add on any veg or potato side which can really bring up the price, this is with all main courses. The Atmosphere is quiet busy but sometimes too busy in the sense the service can be really slow.

We visited this resturant on reccomedation of the cab driver from our hotel - He was soooooooooooo right!! the resturant was fairly busy but even so our waiter was lovely & very attentive. the food arrived promptly & was extreemly well presented. I had Monkfish in garlic cream sauce to start (WOW!!!) then Baked Cod (Yummmmmm) for main course & then ice cream. My only complaint was that I was so full I got stomach pains - but the food was too nice to leave! I would reccomend this resturant to anyone who likes good food - just make sure you're really hungry!!!

We were recommended to visit McSwiggans while on a recent trip to Galway, on the basis that it was able to do what so many other places fail at-combining a great pub and a great restaurant. We had booked a week or so in advance, but were still taken to a table for 4, which I find can sometimes be somewhat lazy service-especially as all four settings were still there. I had pate for starters, which was a great flavour and consistency, however, the toast served was not very fresh-tasting. My partner had smoked salmon which was plentiful and of exceptional quality. For main course, I opted for duck, while my partner had monkfish. We also had a side of vegetables. The food was good, but over-heated. It was as if it had been blasted underneath a grill or in a microwave. This was evident by the film of sauce that existed on the monkfish and the dryness of the duck and accompanying potatoes that stuff the duck. Service was polite, courteous and efficient- Overall, quite good, and would recommend, but as a pub restaurant, and not necessarily a restaurant.

went here on Fathers Day as a group of 6, 4 adults and 2 children. Although we hadn't booked we got seated quickly. the staff were friendly and the food was lovely. Even the childrens chicken nuggetts were v. tasty and real chicken. All of our group was impressed and I thought it was very reasonable in the price. Will eat here more often.

We've eaten here a LOT in the last 2 years, especially for family occasions and loved it. This time I don't know whether they were having a BAD night or it has gone down hill but the food was TERRIBLE. It is expensive when you consider you have to pay for your sides, but usually the quality is there. Not this time! I ordered the ribs and rack of lamb Medium Rare. I got fatty fatty ribs with no meat on them and a obviously cooked and re-heated well done rack of lamb. You could see it was all dry on the outside from sitting under a light. The vegetables were microwaved and all crinkled at the edges. I sent it back and asked for steak which was OK and non-microwaved veg (of which I was told there was none!). My partner had the Duck which looked pre-cooked and heated and was dry, dry, dry. He ate it cause he was too hungry, but I refuse to eat and over-apy for seriously sub standard food. Both mains were accompanied by stuffed mash which turned out to be a mix of mash and stuffing, should never be tried. I really hope it was a bad night, as we loved this place. But I am reluctant to go there again!

Went for dinner with my girlfriend on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was quiet - it is a huge place! Staff were v nice seated and served well. Food was very good had chowder which was mild which I enjoy and Chicken ala king which was very tasty. Price wise it was ok. One black mark would definitely be a side is extra to the price of the main which is an unwelcome additional cost. I will go again.

Went here ith a group of 7 - we had friends over from New York. The actual restaurant it's self is so cosy -lovely feel to it - lots of different levels and areas to it. A lovley large tree up the back all light with lights - really nice. Food was fab - our waiter recommened some fab wine and the mojito's were to die for. All in all you should deffo give this place a go!!!

We went to McSwiggan's on the first night of a Stag weekend. The service was excellent and the food was really good too. We were warned that it was a family place and not to come in drunk but we didn't so it wasn't a problem. Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived but they accommodated us at the bar for 15 minutes and then gave us a very nice table for 11 on a mezzanine floor. The starters were good fare and we tried a variety of things. I went with the barbecue ribs myself and they were very tasty. For the main course I went with a steak and they cooked it medium just the way I like it. I finished off with some crumble for desert and it was lovely. I was very happy that they had a good wine list but were also happy to accommodate beer drinkers at the table as well as some shots. Altogether, a very good night!

Had lunch here during the week, very good daytime menu with an excellent selection of both meat and fish. We both had the fish pie which was delicious and had plenty of fish in it! The chocolate brownie was gorgeous too! Would definitely recommend!

We had our office christmas party here (22 of us) and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their night, the food was fab and service was excellent, only draw back was that we were promised we would be seated together and we werent, leaving a group of 6 or so out in the cold I thought. We will be back next year though and hopefully I will pay a couple more visits myself before then. oh and they have taken the chocolate refrigerator cake off the menu, shame on them.....

Went here as a last minute idea, we were worried that we wouldn't get a table as we had been told by friends that it was a busy place!!! The staff were very friendly an gave us a table as soon as possible, i ordered the salmon fish cake to start. one of the nicest starters i have ever had, my boyfriend got the spare ribs an the meat fell off the bone an the sauce was tasty! the main wasn't as nice but still good i had a warm chicken salad an my bf had beef stir fry!! Over all a great meal an the atmosphere was great!!!! :o) Next time i go to galway ill be sure to go back!!

We had a quick bite at McSwiggans bar last weekend, and it was really great, both had a 3D BLT, and were pleasantly surprised. It was more than what I expected from a BLT. I will definitely go back and have a proper meal there.

Have eaten here a few times, twice in the last fortnight. It's above a bar, booking is recommended but you can always have a drink while waiting. Although it's a large, sprawling place, it maintains an intimate atmosphere. Was there during graduation week and was impressed by the bar and waiting staff, esp the girl with at least 5 plates of veg up her arm!! Good food, great service but most of all, you're not rushed out to make room for more diners. Very important in my opinion. Great bar food as well, love the steak sandwich!

Hot meals are served in restaurant while a good selection of sandwiches and bistro type food is served downstairs. At the moment they have a hot plate special and coffee for 7 euro - very good! Nice atmosphere at lunchtime and very popular. Free newspapers.Quiches are an excellent choice.

When I mentioned to friend that I was visiting Galway for the weekend, they all recommended Mc Swiggans as it was a save bet. The food was really nice and the service was excellent. It was a little pricey compared to what I thought it would be for a pub. There was a great atmosphere and it was busy. We weren't rushed to leave though which was good. We were on the top floor with a window seat was nice....all the stairs wasn't great when you wear high heels though. I would defo recommed Mc Swiggans to friends and family.

Nice place to dine, food was lovely and I'll def visit again. I was there for a dinner with thirteen friends and we each had a main course and dessert, no drinks and the price came to over 300 euro and I felt that was a little on the expensive side!

Had Sunday Lunch, the starter was nice but portions was small. Main course was bland, my friend did enjoy his steak though. I really enjoyed my dessert of raspberry tiramisu but my friend's apple pie was disappointing. Service was efficient and our waitress was very friendly. However I don't think I would return again.

have to say, i found the restaurant very nice to dine in. went in a group of three, the atmosphere was lovely, the lightening was perfect for a winters evening. Service was quick and u get value for money, no one was making us feel rushed where we sat back and enjoyed ourselves chatting for an hr. my only dissapointment was the closing by the staff. All in all it was a lovely evening but the staff brought my rating down

went here with a group of 12 on a xmas party, had the surf and turf and it was absolutely gorgeous, as for the bbq spare rib starter, an absolute disaster, there was just 4 bones covered in fat put on my plate, another of the group had the ribs aswell and he thought the exact same, if you cant get proper ribs to serve then take them off the menu!! the mojito is also very poor, everything else was lovely and nobody had any other complaints

Lovely food-Awful service....I went to McSwiggins for a birthday treat this weekend with 5 friends. The place looked fantastic, but the atmosphere was a bit lacking-I had the cajun steak which was DELICIOUS! I was happy with my food overall, but the service was APALLING!!!! The waitress was unprofessional-she was complaining to my friend that she was in bad form because the last table only left her a €4 tip!!! When one of our partty was having difficulty deciding, she was rather abrupt and said I'll have to come back. She carried all six starters in one go-as a result, there was prawn sauce all over the edge and underneath of my plate. we had to ASK for cutlery, and she didn't bring the wine until AFTER the starters. she literally plonked all of the dishes down, and was not even remotely professional or pleasant. Despite the really good food, I won't be going back here-in fact I am debating sending them an email...The other thing that bothered me, was that all side orders were seperate-i though it was a bit mean for a family style restaurant-it is something i would expect from a 5 star !

Thew Food was ok, the service was very poor and the manager had no respect for her customers. I heard her giving out to a group of mature professionals because I believe she had a bad day. Put me off this establishment for life. I believe that customers always comes first, and when they pay their bill, you should thank them and mean it, not give them a hard time and make them feel inferior. Tom Galway

Excellent restaurant, visited it recently with a large group. Everyone was delighted with the quality of the food served. The only slightly negative comment would be that we were far too squashed at the table which had been booked in advamce, when mentioned to the waitress, there were no other tables available. We soon forgot about this when the food arrived. I will surely return when i revisit Galway.

McSwiggans's is an institution in Galway, always the first to be suggested for a good start to a night out. The food is hearty and tasty but the prices have crept up a little bit over the years - I think the one € rating is a bit conservative now. I was there with 4 others on friday night and we all enjoyed our meals immensely, plates were cleared anyway and i think that's a good sign. Three had the monkfish, which by all accounts was fantastic, I had the duck - v tasty but could have been a bit crispier, and there were about 4 fillets in the plaice dish! The lovely, attentive and polite waitress made our experience all the better. Still a firm favourite with me!

The place inside is an amazing labyrinth. From the outside, you'd never think the place was that big! The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff were excellent. The place was mad busy, so the only downside was trying to get the bill....it took a while, but we eventually got it. I would highly recommend this place.

Myself and my boyfriend ate here New Years Day, the staff were lovely, the place itself is lovely and I thought the food was ok. I had spare ribs as starter, and my boyfriend had garlic bread with cheese, both were gorgeous. I had McSwiggans special chicken as a main course, which I wasn't mad about and my boyfriend got a huge steak, but he said the pepper sauce wasn't great. In general I would think it probably is a lovely resteraunt.

I visited this restaurant on a Tuesday as part of a group of 18. Service was good, but the waiter wasn't so friendly. The food was great, no complaints from everyone, and it arrived very quickly. Great value for money, but make sure to book ahead. If you opt for an early sitting (like we did, at 6.30) be aware that you my have to vacate your table by a certain time - which can be difficult with a large group! Very pleased overall.

Everytime I visit Galway I always pay this restaurant a visit. This is an absolute gem of a place but make sure to make a reservation because it's always packed out. The food while a little on the expensive side for some things is definitely worth it. Staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is always great. This is an ideal spot for people from all walks of life, whether you want a romantic meal or big family get together this has everything you need.
