I can't recommend the White Gables enough, from the moment that we walked in the door, the how evening was magnificent. The atmosphere is relaxed and warm and we relaxed with a drink before our meal,we opted for the set 4 course menu which is excellent value. The wine list is also very good. For starters I had the chicken liver pate which was homemade and very tasty, this was followed by a soup, for main I chose the duck and it was beautiful, the orange sauce was to die for. Finally, for dessert I had the cheesecake which was lovely but by that stage I had eaten more than enough. The service was excellent, very attentive but not overly so. We will definitely be back again.

We recently spent a weekend away in Galway at the Glenlo Abbey. The White Gables was suggested to us by the hotel as their own restaurant was only available for early bookings. The White Gables restaurant was a fabulous experience from the minute we stepped inside the door. The service and food was outstanding. We both had pate for starter and I had duck and my partner had the steak, both were gorgeous. It was so refreshing to visit an establishment where the owners really care about their food and service.

On a recent weekend away in Galway, we visited somewhere abit out from the city. the food was excellant, especially my beef wellington. the prawns for starters were very juicy, my only disappointment was i didn't order them!! service was excellant, portions were massive which went some way to justifying the high prices. our only complaint was we felt a little rushed towards the end of the meal. for a big meal, we wanted some space between the courses but the staff wanted to clear tables quickly for waiting customers.

We had our staff night out here last week and we all really enjoyed ourselves. We all ordered from the four course menu which cost 40 euro. The food was delicious, I had the deep fried brie for starters, the tomato soup, rib-eye steak for main and poached pear for dessert. My steak was more cooked than I had ordered but it was still very nice and I enjoyed it. The only thing I was a bit disappointed with was the dessert selection. While there was a good choice there wasn't anything on it that particularly excited me and I probably would not have ordered one only for that it was included in the price. A few of my friends/colleagues felt the same. I tasted a few of the other things on the menu which were also very good : the paté and the garlic mushrooms!I really liked that when you are waiting for your table they seat you beside the fire and give you a few nibblies. Wine was lovely and the champagne cocktail was lovely too. Will definitely go back :)

I had heard about the fantastic food here for years from various people but I never ate there. Maybe I was waiting for a special occasion or something, but last night I took the plunge! The White Gables is in Moycullen village. We were greeted at the door and told that our table would be ready in a few minutes. We were seated in a really nice area just inside the door, given a few nibbles and a menu by the owner. She took our order and after a couple of minutes we were shown to our table-our bottle of wine waiting for us. We had the 40 Euro 4 course special. The choice was really amazing! We had deep fried brie, pork and veg spring rolls, potato and leek soup, duckling with orange sauce and veg and chocolate mousse and assorted ice-cream. The food was really fabulous! The service was great and they were not in your face and false. like some places can be. It was very professional and I liked that the owner was about and mingling with the customers. I would highly recommend this restaurant. My only criticism is that I have to go all the way to Moycullen! I wish there was another one in Galway city! Thanks for a lovely night! I will definitely go again!

This is where we used to go for special occasions as it was our favourite restaurant in Galway for years, especially because of the unbelievable steaks they served. The service is outstanding, with a lovely welcome on arrival, the opportunity to have a drink and nibbles whilst waiting for your table and, on the one occasion when I had to send food back (med-rare steak was well-done), it was dealt with graciously and efficiently. The one thing we loved about the restaurant was its consistency but our last visit (probably due to the overdone steak!) left us a little disappointed. The price list also hasn't changed in a downward direction and overall it's an expensive night out, especially if you've left the car at home and taking a taxi there and back to town.

Food very nice anytime I eat here - although the bang to buck ratio leaves a lot to be desired.

Go here for a treat couple times a year and im yet to be dissapointed. Crab claws and duck are always amazing and the duck is so big that i usually end up bringing half of it home! The staff have always been really friendly and attentive any time ive been there. Its a very cosy restaurant and id definatly recommend it.

I ate here on 15/2/09 It's a lovely place with a nice atmosphere, cosy and comfortable. I ordered fillet of beef and this along with striploin was 32.50 which is pretty steep in my opinion when you have to pay an extra 3.50 for veg. A main course should consist of meat, veg and potatoes in my opinion and this policy of charging extra stinks in my opinion. The food was near perfect tho and altho the fillet (well done) was slightly burnt around some of the edges it was still near perfect. My wife was less impressed with this being an ex chef. I only had main course and dessert which was cheesecake and this was as good as you could possibly expect. The service was ok overall. The owner/manageress was very attentive to all our needs but i did have to ask the waitress twice for something on two occasions ( the tea and the bill). It may have been her first or second day there tho so ill forgive that even if her head was elsewhere. So, for 101eu we got 2 fillets 2 desserts 1martini+7up + 1 corrs lite 2 teas

This is one of my favourite restaurants. It is consistently reliable with very pleasant and competent staff. The portions are huge (The duck in particular!) everything is well executed and prepared. Service is very efficient and friendly. There is a very good selection on the well priced Table D'ote menu. The only complaint I would have is that the menus never change. It would be nice to see some variety with some new additions on the menu, or perhaps some specials every now and then.

Extremely overrated. Incredible that when a place gains a good reputation then people who visit jump on the bandwagon because they go with the expectation of having a wonderful experience. My opinion - food is average and overpriced. Had a seafood cocktail for starter. LOTS of lettuce, some crab meat, small and frozen prawns topped with a crab claw(best part)and sun dried tomato and drizzled with an inadequate amount of Marie rose sauce. Fellow diners had an average onion soup, and crab claws which are impossible to get wrong because you buy them in fresh and prepare an adequate sauce to accompany them. One of my fellow diners asked was the sole on the main course black sole. This was confirmed however when delivered she received lemon sole which was still the best of the three main courses. Avoid the duck. Looks well on arrival with crispy exterior but very chewy with a flavourless stuffing. Didn't try deserts but at over 6 euro they should be exceptional! Interior drab. Service adequate. Won't be rushing back.

Traditional, dependable, no bull. Excellent flatfish and lamb in particular, focus on good ingredients, homely and attentive service. Not flash, but well executed, and a solid recommendation. Lots of Galway foodies in regular attendance. I had one of the best, and simplest, turbot dishes I ever had here, very classic, butter/lemon sauce, new potatoes, green beans, faultless. Good cheesecake by memory, and a decent wine list.

Best restaurant I have been to in Galway - make that Ireland. Go here numerous times a year and nobody I have ever gone with has been disappointed. Huge portions as well I do not know how anyone could ever manage to get through the set menu - sharing a starter and a main course of steak is nearly too much. A must if you re visiting Galway.

Simply the best restaurant in Galway city/environs. The food is always excellent and consistent and it is particularly good for fresh fish. The atmosphere is ideal for a romantic or family occasion. A family run business at its best. Worth the taxi trip to Moycullen if you're in Galway just for the weekend. Make sure to book in advance.

A great evening all round! The welcome was inviting and warm, the staff were attentive, very helpful, pleasant & cheerful. The food was close to divine, best crab claws I've tasted, ever! The monk-fish was too great not to finish! If there was any critique then it would have been the desserts, while they were good they were not as remarkable as the rest of the food! We will be back...

This is a great restaurant. It's just outside the city but definitely worth a visit. They do a great early bird menu. Starters were a little disappointing, but overall it was a very tasty dinner.

This is the most outstanding restaurant in my opinion. The food is always fantastic and the atmosphere so relaxing. From fish dishes, duck to steaks it's second to none.
