What can I say that has not already been said. Its reputation speaks for itself. Apart from the most delicious seafood I have ever had in any part of the world |I have travelled. Truly excellent and well deserving of its awards. The nicest seafood and nicest chips ever and not as expensive as I had thought bearing in mind its world renound. We ate here for lunch but to be honest we did not eat for the rest of the day it was so filling and tasty. I will definitely be back on my next visit to the city.

I'm a bit of a chip-fiend, and McDonagh's serves some of the nicest chips I've ever had. On a sunny day in Galway there is nothing nicer than getting chips from McDonagh's and enjoying them by the Spanish Arch with the locals who are quite possibly doing the same thing. If you're not a big seafood fan I recommend the fried chicken. I can't say that this place didn't have an influence on my moving to Galway.

If you like seafood this is one of the best around. Nice restaurant, great location, friendly staff and good service. The food was delicious and while not the cheapest in town it's not the most expensive either and definitely offers value for the few extra euro.

I called in here on the way for some lunch I was dying for some of McDonagh's chips having studied and worked in Galway I miss the chips since I moved away. As I approached at midday they were opening up and there was a queue outside already to get in a mix of locals and tourists. I got a takeaway portion of chips to eat down by the Claddagh the chips are amazing real proper chipper chips with loads of salt and vinegar the chips are proper fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Service is prompt and friendly I would recommend McDonagh's as it is a well established Galway landmark

I first visited McDonagh's of Galway back in 1986 and would try to go there on the rare occasions when I am in the city. Last night I called in on spec with two colleagues (J and S). It was a rainy Monday night and the place was busy enough but not full. I wasn't hungry enough for a starter, but J and S managed. J had mussels (I think) and S had prawns. My main course was scallops with black pudding. Very simple but delicious. J couldn't resist the scampi for her main course and I cannot remember what S had, except for her portion of proper chipper chips. J enjoyed her scampi but wasn't overly impressed by the portion of mushy peas. The menu is quite impressive overall. There were two specials on last night - hake and silver bream, which would have been grilled. Two starters, three main courses and a bottle of a French Languedoc white wine came to under €90. The waitresses were cheerful, friendly and helpful. McDonagh's is a great Galway institution.

came here straight from Ladies day at Ballybrit, as is usual during race week the queue was out the door, been here several times, even when the place is jammers its still the best fish & chip shop I've ever been to, standards never slip and the counter staff are great, the batter is amazing, would come here for the mushy peas and tartar sauce alone!!Fish is of amazing quality. Can't wait to go back again.

This was our second visit to MacDonaghs. We came across it last year and swore we would return on our next visit to Galway. We ate in the restaurant side which opens at 5pm. Slightly more expensive than the takeaway side but massive portions. Definitely the best fish and chips in Ireland complete with Mushy peas, side salad and a wedge of lemon. Great to be able to eat your fish and chips with a nice pot of tea too! The kids shared a bowl of mussels off the main menu and devoured them - they insisted on counting the shells afterwards and there were 44 in total. Pity the kids menu doesn't include mussels and other seafood. There is always a great buzz in the place and usually a queue out the door. Can't wait for my next visit to Galway now.

Fish and Chips to die for. Was recently in Galway for a few days and had heard about McDonaghs. The smoked fish was superb and as for the amount chips. My friend had the cod and it was delicious. Great value and well worth a visit.

Come for the chips! YUMMY! A huge portion of chips and nice wooden tables to sit at, great atmospherere overlooking quay st. Can also sit outside during the summer. Avoid seafood plate! Also serve chicken, but fish is definitely the best. Its a pity they dont have french bread/sliced bread for the ultimate chip butty!! Service is very quick.

Comfort food at it's very best. McDonagh's have the best chips in Ireland and although they're famous for their fish, they also do the tastiest chicken. You won't be dissapointed here.

What can i add that has not already been said, have eaten here so many times i cant count them. Either the take away side or the restaurant, and both are faultless. Just wish they would open a branch over the east side of town, so my take out would remain warm - although they do wrap and double wrap when i say am in car for take away. The restaurant side can be classy or relaxed, you can dress up or dress down and feel at home and very well catered for. Brilliant every time

The best fish and chips in Galway, if not Ireland. Fantastic food and the communal benches add to the atmosphere. The chicken is gorgeous too. I always recommend it to anyone travelling down to Galway and everyone agrees with me. It should be a staple of every trip there.

McDonagh's, without a doubt, serve the best fish and chips in Galway! The fish always tastes fresh and juicy, while the chips are always perfectly cooked. They also have a more extensive menu than this for the more adventurous, along with a huge amount of condoments for the less traditional. A must!

I went here after a long day of shopping and with the reputation it has I thought it would be the prefect end to the day. The chips were not nice at all , made worse when I discovered they didnt put any salt or vinegar on them and the service was really slow.

I can't remember a visit to Galway where I didn't eat at McDonagh's so why should my most recent visit be any different. The staff were very accommodating of our two young children and the cod and chips were once again amazing. On a cold and wet day in Dublin you might almost be able to convince me of the drive to Galway for this place.

It's hard to walk by a place that's clearly so popular. In we went! We were seated quickly by a welcoming waitress and drinks were brought over whilst we selected from the menu. I had the cod and chips; a classic served fresh and crispy. Himself had the Sole with oysters to start. He wolfed down both and is still raving about McDonah's. I would definelty recomend this place and will certainly go back.

McDonaghs has a great reputation but the quality of food is very poor. the fish just simply isn't good. the chips are far too greasy. You do get big portions and its worth getting the chips once in a while but this is a highly overrated establishment.

My sister lived in Galway for several years while I was living in America so I heard loads about the famous McDonagh's chips before I managed to make the trip to Galway. I'm now practically a McDonagh's regular - I stop in every time I'm in Galway from Dublin.

Very overrated place. Fish and chips are pretty expensive for what you get and yes the fish is fresh but that's about it. Bland otherwise. Can't see what the hype is about unfortunately.

One of the best Fish and Chip shops in Galway. The food is freshly cooked, tasty and cheap as chips (pardon the pun!). Definitely a favourite.
