Went here with my girlfriend and was expecting quality food and service due to the prices. Initially the service was very good as the staff went to find us a seat. We were eventually seated at the entrance which was uncomfotable. We both had steak and my rib eye was tough and of not great quality. By the time we got our main, most of the staff seemed to have gone home, and i waited 20 mins to find someone to get me some salt(yea no salt on the table) but I gave up. To sum up my visit, this place was not value for money.

We visited Martine's Wine Bar on Monday 8th August. The restaurant is very basic with formica like tables and very casual. The food is more expensive than most Dublin restaurants of this type and the menu is very limited. However, the food was good and the service was good. With the location in a street full of restaurants, I would be unlikely to go back.

Stopped in to avail of the early bird menu, two courses for €20. I had the goat's cheese tartlet, which was very tasty. Mr. Mona had the mussels, asian style, was a very generous portion and they were fresh and scrumptous. For main I had tandoori chicken, it was nice but nothing amazing. The other main of chicken supreme was devine, with roasted veg and mash. All in all a lovely meal for €40!

We hadn't made a booking and the waitress seated a couple before us but made up for it by seating us in the main room at a lovely table. My husbands mussel starter was great particularly the sauce and my main of scallops and black pudding was gorgeous. The rack of lamb seemed a little on the small side but was delicious also. We were really impressed with the australian shiraz which @ € 30 seemed very reasonable for such a beautiful wine. The staff really looked after us after the initial error and we would definitely go again.

Went for dinner last Friday. We had no reservation and the place was quite busy but threy accommodated us quite quickly. We both went for the Early Bird which is good value for money. I had the Coq au vin as a starter and having lived in France for a while it was not up to what I expected, but the flavours were there and the portion quite generous. Boyfriend had the chicken goujons and quite liked them. As mains, he went for the steak with fries which was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and came with the sauce on the side (as requested). I had the fish of the day Salmon...which was fresh and lovely. Nice garnish and once again generous size. Service was prompt and friendly.

We had the early bird menu. The food was good and great value. I probably wouldn't pay the full price for it but would go back for the early bird again. Service was very good. The staff were very friendly

Went to this place with a bunch of friends. Atmosphere was very cosy. Food was very nice: for starters, try their soup or chicken goujons, and go for the lamb ribs for mains. Other dishes were also great. Service was fantastic, the staff were very friendly and chatty!

Popped into Martines on Quay Street on the spur of the moment one evening for dinner and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and beautifully presented, the service and atmosphere were fantastic as well. I couldn't recommended it highly enough!

Visiting Galway a few weeks ago, popped into Martines. Have not been here for a few years. Glad to see that the food is still delicious and the atmosphere was good, dare I say cosy even. The starters were very tasty(soup and salmon cakes). We both ordered steak, they were cooked exactly as we requested (mine med rare and well done for my wife). Great to eat somewhere where the staff know what wine to select for you to compliment the meal. We thought the meal was good value for money. Nice to see in these times. The waitress was lovely and very professional, we will definately eat here again and I would recommend it.

I heard about Martines Restaurant from some friends and the last time my girlfriend and I were in Galway we had to call in, it did not disappoint. The service and food were both fantastic in equal amounts. My girlfriend had the halibut, which she reluctantly let me taste, it was impressive to say the least. I had the sirloin steak done medium rare, it was cooked to perfection and I enjoyed every bit of it. There was a good crowd in the restaurant when we were there and the atmosphere was good. I will definitely be calling again the next time I am in Galway.

visited for early bird. Everything was quiet average. the grilled salmon cakes were nice and the sauce was tasty. the sirlion steak was very grizzly. the food presentation of the main courses was poor. a leaf of lettuce, a ring of onion and a quater of tomato or even a sprig of parsely would have dressed the plate a bit with little cost to the restaurant. service was good, but a smile on the waitresses face's would have made it feel more friendly. Good value for money at €20 for two courses, €25 for three. Wouldn't be rushing to return or recommend though.

I just wanted to tell others that I'm really glad to see a restaurant with a half decent early bird menu. A friend and I called in for a quick bite on the way home and were delighted with the choice. She had the duck spring rolls and steak and I had the soup and steak, both steaks cooked perfect and they were lovely. The service was very good and the waitress was a sweetheart. I know every business is having a hard time right now but its about time people are working hards for our cash. We will definetly be back. Thank you.

A few lads at the office told me about Martines early bird a good few times and i'd been meaning to call in and check it out. I found myself on Quay Street on friday oyster festival 5ish and hungry. There in the street was this huge early bird menu tempting me in. €20 for a starter and main. Im a steak man so i ran in. It was quite busy, everyone getting the early bird i suppose but i like a busy spot. They had a lovely table outside selling oysters and champagne and i noticed nobody else made an effort of the street. Good onye Martines!!! Anyway back to my food. I noticed 2 steak options on the menu. €20 for the sirloin and starter or €25 for for a 8oz FILLET + starter? What? I questioned the waitress. Whats wrong the fillet? Nothing she replied. Why is it so cheap? What she told me next shocked me. The suppliers have dropped their prices all over the country so we are passing on the savings! First I heard of it but let me tell you this steak is the real deal. Well done Martines & nice job on the oysters outside! Like Arnie, I'll be back!!!

I have been a customer of Martine's for a few years now and I was surprised to see the reviews that have been posted. I was there last Thursday evening at 6pm and I availed of the early bird menu, which has to be the best I have seen yet. I found that I could have the same delicious food that I have been eating since I started going there for 20EURO and that's including a starter! I expected 'tasters' instead of meals at this price but we were certainly well-fed. My boyfriend had the sirloin steak which was char-grilled and delicious and I had a roasted cod fillet that came with a delicious fennel cream. We also got 2 starters and a bottle of a beautiful Chianti Classico that the waitress recommended and the whole thing came to 65Euro! I couldn't believe it when I got the bill. Yes the service was fast and we were finished everything within an hour and a quarter but for that price we couldn't argue with the speed. Not long before that I spent a wonderful anniversary evening there where we ate from the a la carte menu for the 9pm sitting (Halibut, mouth-watering!) and spent a few hours enjoying half-priced champagne (don't know why it's half-price, don't care!) and another beautiful red, again recommended. All in all I think Martine's is a very good restaurant with delicious resonable food, the best wine list I've seen in Ireland and some of the friendliest staff I've come across. Yes the service early in the evening is fast and furious (but not unfriendly) but it slows down in the evening resulting in a most pleasurable dining experience in a fantastic atmosphere that has yet to be matched in Galway.

We went to Martine's for dinner last Friday night at 7pm. As we arrived the Early Bird promotional details were on display right outside the entrance on Quay St- it was the Early Bird which we wanted to order. We were seated and given menus- I asked for the Early Bird menu and was informed that it finished at 6.30.... I said "Oh. you've still got your promotional board outside on display though"- thinking that they had forgotten to take it inside at 6.30. The waitress told me it was left out there permanently...I find this exceptionally misleading - and on closer inspection this outside display does not have the times the Early Bird is on offer on it anywhere.. We went ahead and ordered from the a la carte- 2* Sirloin Steaks, Medium Rare ..the waitress asked if we'd like starters - we said no thank you just the mains.. to which she replied that the steaks would take up to 35 mins..I don't understand how 2 Medium rare steaks could take that long in a restaurant that was not very busy- To me this seemed like a real ploy to get us to order starters When the steaks did arrive they were over cooked.. In all it was an exceptionally disappointing experience- I felt like this restaurant was really trying to mislead its customers on the value it was offering.I won't be going back

Went here tonight for a meal and will never return. We decided on the early bird and ordered the salmon cakes which the word bland does not even do justice to. Then two of us had the lasagne, when it arrived it was Freezing....not just cold!!! Sent it back with the management and it was returned 5 minutes later having been micorwaved. It was obvious it had been microwaved as the garlic bread with the meal had been thrown in too and was now soggy where as it would have been crisp if placed in an oven as the management insisted. Now it was dry and incinerated with sauce cremated onto the sides. We again told the member of management who rudely said the meal we had been given was perfect and that "mistakes happen" ...not in food they shouldn't. When leaving we again spoke to them when they denied anything was microwaved and with the rudest manner I had come across just demanded that we pay our bill.

Pretty average.... Had dinner here early on a Friday evening. It was about 5:30pm and was pretty packed when we got there (and there was a queue when we were leaving). I had a salmon fishcake to start and cannelioni for mains. Both were ok but a little on the bland side. We after we got our mains, we realised we'd lie a side of chips to share, which we requested. We were so impressed when the waitress arrived back with them about a minute later! - but they were cold and had obviously been sitting in the kitchen for ages. I thought that was very poor and it gave me the impression the waitress just didn't care. We didn't bother saying anything, as we hadn't the time, and the place was so busy with tourists. The location is great, but I'd really rather make an effort to go a little further afield for better food & service. It's not a place for a relaxing evening meal, as it's so noisy and busy. I would only go back if I was really stuck!

I left it a year and a half to go back to Martine's following a disappointing meal the previous time. This restaurant has a great location and can be very atmospheric and we were celebratig a special occasion but, I've given up on it now. Starters were, in fairness, good (seafood) at €12 each but but the mains were pretty awful. The duck was incinerated and the rack of lamb was, well...not a rack of lamb. It was four separate, small, cold and fatty lamb chops lying on the plate. Having a yearning for red meat that evening, I'd decided on the lamb as I couldn't bring myself to pay almost €32 for the fillet steak (is there a more expensive one in Galway??). Perhaps the price is due to the produce being organic but it still seemed excessive. This used to be a great restaurant but since it expanded a few years ago the quantity of tables has diluted the quality of the food. It's a shame.

I haven't been to Martine's in a while but feel the need to inform the previous comment about the serving of wine. I, myself, am also a white wine drinker and am fully aware that I have NEVER been discriminated against, particularly in Martine's, where the staff are fully trained in the serving of their wines. Yes, it is etiquette to serve red wine in a larger glass, but don't be deceived-just because the glass is bigger DOES NOT mean that the serving is bigger too-the official pouring size is 187ml for both white/red/rose or even purple and green polka-dot wine!!! I suggest you size this the next time. You should savour your wine anyway-particulary in the wonderful ambience of Martine's.

This is a nice cosy restaurant serving nice food in a warm atmosphere. Two things I would fault them for though is firstly, they only offered a mandatory SIX couse meal on Valentines night and wanted the table back after an hour and a half ! This is utter madness and not giving any choice to the customer. The second issue I have with this restaurant and a couple of other restaurants is the practice of serving white wine by the glass in a smaller glass than the red wine, so consequently the white wine drinker is dicriminated against and gets less wine !! it may be etiquette to drink white wine from a smaller glass but when one is buying wine by the glass this practise is neither logical or fair and certainly not appreciated by white wine drinkers. I would return to this restaurant again but not at a time when they restrict the menu and I will certainly be interested to see if they start giving equal rights to white wine drinkers.

I've been to Martines a few times - and enjoyed it very much each time. It is great on atmosphere, particularly during the summer months. The food is good, the wine is fine. Service can be a little slow - but so what when one is enjoying oneself?

Ate here on 07/12/08 based on reviews given on Menupages and we were happy with the choice. We skipped starters and went for two maincourses and desserts. I would not recommend this place if you are in a rush as the service was a little slow but the food was worth the wait. We both had the duck which we both loved. One thing is that I think it is a little over-priced for Galway but worth it for a treat!

The staff are happy, well spirited, non intrusive and deliver you fantastic food on time; no unnecesary waiting and everything runs smoothly. The staff contribute to a good atmosphere and you would have to say that the owner or manager has figured out the key to happy customers, great service, devine food and a friendly atmosphere.

We went to Martines and we had a pleasant night. The restaurant has cosy atmosphere and the specials of day were fresh and delicate. fresh handmade brown bread was served to us. we had breaded mussels, salmon and sole. everything balanced and delicate. The list of wines is not brilliant but sufficient. The staff was very kind but not very professional. the desert ad delicious bread and butter was above expectation. Clean toilette. The restaurant does not have licence for spirit, so is not possible to order a after dinner spirit. I would reccomend it

Me and my boyfriend dined here at the weekend and it was so good we went back again on the Sunday! The crab claws to start were smothered in garlic butter and were finger licking good. I had the scallops with black pudding for mains and have to say the accompaniments worked extremely well to bring all the flavours together. On my second visit I opted for the chocolate torte which was to die for and definitely recommended for chocolate lovers. Really enjoyed this restaurant.

I absolutley love this restaurant. It is very cosy and romantic. I had never seen such a choice on a menu before - it covered all tastes from steak to lasagne to seafood and as for the wine selection... I was very impressed. I would nearly go as far as saying it is my favourite restaurant. I can't wait to go back again!!

I was in Galway for the races and was looking for a restaurant with a menu a little bit more imaginative than the regular garlic bread/steak burger type menu, so was delighted to come across this restaurant. The menu choice was great, unfortunately the special for race week, crab claws, they had all run out of (and this was at 7.30pm!)but there was plenty of other dishes to choose from. I had the pate very tasty (perhaps could do with less fruit coulis on top), and then came my main course of Rack/loin of lamb - with a portion size enough to feed 3!! The creamed peas and garlic potatoes were a nice accompaniment. My friend had the soup and a Caesar salad, and it made a nice change for the salad (as a main) to be a decent size. There was no room for desert, which is a shame as I was dying to try the bread and butter pudding which looked very appetising. Waiting staff were courteous and friendly, and well dressed/presented, it was very reasonably priced (€60 for 2 starters/2 mains & 3 glasses wine, tea & coffee) - so overall a very enjoyable experience. I'll be back next time I'm in Galway :-)

We chose this restaurant for dinner for our fifth anniversary largely based upon the reviews on MenuPages. What a disappointment. When my partner booked the restaurant she was assured that because it was our first visit we would be 'looked after' and given a nicely situated table. If one considers a small table for two jammed awkwardly in between two tables of six as "nicely situated" then it must have been as promised. Quite frankly we felt like we were a pair of sardines squashed into a match box. In general the restaurant is far too crowded. As we stepped through the front door on arrival we were virtually on top of other seemingly hapless diners trying to enjoy their evening out. We certainly felt very uncomfortable for ourselves and felt sorry for those poor unfortunates perched almost in the doorway. Our greeting also left much to be desired. The service was the worst I have experienced in a restaurant for some time. An example being that despite many requests of different staff members a side-order of fried onions (ordered at the same time as our main course) did not arrive until we were almost finished our main course. The staff were not particularly friendly and the Maitre D' was very curt and somewhat dismissive. She was positively rude to one very young couple who may not have been experienced enough or confident enough to stand up for themselves. The food was probably fine but our experience of the poor service almost certainly tainted our view of it. All-in-all I found nothing worth recommending about Martines' and we certainly will not be going back.

Can't really add any more than previous reviewers. One of my favourite restaurants anywhere. Any time I'm in Galway I always make sure I come here. Had most of the menu and its all lovely. Scallops, lamb and bread & butter pudding especially. Really nice cosy atmosphere, excellent service. Even came here one Saturday night at 10pm and were accommodated with a big smile and full menu. Amazing.

What a find. This is a peachy restaurant. Great food, super staff and fantastic value. I had chicken liver pate which was served with loads of toast and a yummy plum sauce. My husband and I fought over the last little bit. The grilled salmon cakes were superb. For main course I indulged in escalope of pork in a creamy mushroom sauce (but it was much more than just that!) and my better half went for the Rib-eye Steak Special. Two G&T's and the gluttony of a fantastic bread and butter pudding and an indulgent chocolate dessert and we "rolled out" completely shocked that it was less than €100. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return when back in Galway again. Don't miss this gem.

I recently recommended Martine's to a couple for a second date which is praise indeed. I like the way you can have a drink at the bar before being brought to your table. the food has always been good and the service efficient and unobtrusive. Only thing that i don't like is that there are no tablecloths. For a restaurant of this class, i think it would be a nice touch. You could put glass over them so they dont get dirty. P.S. the couple are still going strong. I can't attribute it all to Martine's but if the meal was disastrous, who knows?!?

This was my first visit to Galway in several years. We went to Martines just off the street having looked at menus in several places. We loved it - food was great - bruschetta, canelloni and scallopps all fab - wine and price good also. Would definitely recommend and will visit next time I am in Galway

I love Martine's, it is a very popular Galway spot and though i have lived here for years, I only discovered it last year with my boyfriend. We have been back several times since then, the lamb shank and the duck are delicious and the bottle of Prosecco is great value. A lovely place for a date.

For me, being a Galway person, Martines is the best place to eat in the city. Beautiful setting, nice wine menu and great food (and I'm very fussy). Staff are great. And it's not too expensive, even though it is in the heart of Galway's latin quarter. This is a gem of a restaurant. I'd eat here at least once every 2 months.

I have eaten in Martine's Winebar on two occasions and found that everything was perfect. It is a lovely, quaint restaurant on Quay St. in Galway. The cozy atmospehere is greatly enhanced by the delicious food. On my first visit I had the Thai mussels, which are delicious and the scallops with risotto for main course, they were mouthwatering! My second visit was for the Galway Oyster Festival. My friends and I oredered natural oysters with a gorgeous Guinness sorbet and baked oysters with spinach, Roquefort cheese and fennel. (I would go back for these alone) The wine list is also one of the best I've seen.

I would recommend this restaurant on the basis of their wine list! Their selection is fantastic and every palate is catered for. We ordered a prosecco to sip on while you pondered the menu. The food was great but pricey, however the romantic atmosphere was lacking. Due to our nice little table for two being surrounded by groups of 4 and 10.
