Was in Galway for a conferance and 3 of us went in search of an Indian restaurant and came across Kumars. Its a lovely small place, friendly staff and the food was yummy. The meat Samosas were v tasty & I tried the Makhani Chicken which was also good, but not as mild as they said (for me anyways - Im a wimp), no complaints about the rest of the food either, except that we ordered way too much and rolled out of the place!! Will pop in again next time im in Galway.

I recently went to this restaurant with my girlfriend on a visit to Galway. We arrived in town late in the evening, around 10:00, and were desperately wandering the streets looking for an eatery that was still serving when we happened upon this gem. It was a cold November evening, and the interior was warm and welcoming. We sat for at least an hour chatting and eating. The staff was extremely friendly, and the food was good. On the whole, Kumar's is a great value, and a really nice experience. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Galway.

This is our favourite restaurant in Galway, no other one comes close. This family run restaurant makes you feel welcome as soon as you enter the door. The staff are very helpful and polite. The food is amazing and especially the satay skewers. Any special requests, such as a very hot dish will be spiced to suite your palate. Regular customers are extremely well looked after. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Try it!

I love Kumars. For both take away and eat in. The food is great, but what really brings my opinion of it way up is the service. You get treated very well in there and especially if you're a regular. This should be the norm in every restaurant but unfortunately this is not the case. I've tried a few different things in here and i've never been dissappointed. Good value, good food and excellent service

Really liked this restaurant. Looks really nice from the outside - set in a stone building. Inside the decor hits you immediately - you'll either love it or hate it. I loved it - really kitsch and a real 80's look about it. That was my impression. Considering it was a Monday night, it was quite busy but the service was great. The food was lovely - himself had a vindaloo and it was really hot, just the way he likes it. The waitress noticed he seemed to be getting very hot and came over with a big jug of water. Nice touch. I had a sizzling chicken dish and there was more than enough. Overall I really liked this place and would definitely go back next time I'm in Galway.

Where to begin? Ok, the decor of the restaurant is pretty awful and the decor of the staff isn't much better. If the 'front of house' approaches you wearing a tracksuit top, you know something is not right. Ok, to the food. We were given the popadoms in a filthy, undressed basket. The sauces for this were already on the table when we sat down and were not fresh. The fish cake starter was priced at €7 and I received some unwashed iceberg lettuce garnished with TOMATO KETCHUP. I couldn't believe it. The fish cakes were tiny too, without much taste. Overall a real let down of a starter. Now, to the mains. I have never in my life sent so much as a sausage back to a kitchen in my life, I am typical Irish restaurant go-er and as such, rarely complain. I did however send this main course back to kitchen and also refused to pay for it. I ordered the chilli prawn dish and what a received was 8, yes 8 small overcooked prawns amongst a pile of slop which included some peppers and some onion I think. It was priced at €17 at represent seriously bad value for money. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS!

Had a meal here with my Sister earlier in the week and really enjoyed it. The service was excellent and the food was nice. I got the Chicken Mahini (sp??) and my sister got the very hot vindaloo, the smell of which made me sweat :-) Really enjoyed the food, service and casual atmosphere and will be back again. Very reasonable also, I must add!!

recently had a meal here, restaurant is very badly decorated..there is a bit of everything which is into ur eyes...carpet was terrible..somefoot balls printed on it or so, well we ordered food...papadums arrived in a basket which was not even dressed...the dips we got were few of them..there was some yogurty thing but i noticed as some yellow thing was floating around it,didn't touch it, starters were dressed with ketchup..whats indian about it????i am confused...Mains were so tasteless i am sure it could be done a bit better..sorry loads better....wine was disappointing as i ordered a chardonnay which was so sweet..i do know ,my wines....Well i do think GALWAY can do with a real proper Indian restaurant...Hopefully somebody will take this opportunity.....

Lovely spot ... The service was very friendly, helpful and efficient and our waiter really knew what he was talking about when we asked for a recommendation ... Like others have mentioned, the main course portions are enormous ... we actually ate too much !! Overall, a really nice indian with knowledgable staff and a cosy ambience ...

Very good Indian restaurant. I have eaten here on many occasions and every dish I have tried has been very good. Generally though, I have only gone for chicken based dishes -Excellent mekhani chicken. Service is fine and the staff are friendly. A nice place to go eat on a relaxed Sunday evening.

I have eaten here several times I have to say that it is the best Indian restaurant in Galway. The setting is very warm and cosy and the service is very friendly. The ingredients are generally of good quality and I have always left there feeling satisfied with the experience. I find the portions are quite large so I have never really bothered with the starters and desserts. Usually a main course with naan bread is enough. I would recommend the lamb bhoona but there is also a large selection of speciality dishes.

Had one of the best Indian food ever! Atmosphere is very cosy,in historic surroundings and romantic lights. Waiter really friendly and service quick. The only problem was when paying bill:we ordered a platter of starters,(it was a couple of each)and they charged 5euro for EACH starter!very expensive but worth it I guess

Ate here with my husband on a weekend trip to Galway. We had meat platter for starters and it was delicious. I had Makhani Chicken, and my husband ordered Lamb Korma. The Chicken was great but the Korma was a little disappointing. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are attentive but not pushy. Overall this restaurant is great value and I would visit again. It's not the best Indian I've been to but for the prices I would recommend this restaurant.

What a find! On a weekend trip with 8 people and nowhere booked for Saturday night. Wandered into the usual recommended restaurants but everywhere was booked out solid. Then we came to Kumar's! I asked if they could accommodate 8 of us - No problem. They gave us the back room to ourselves, provided the best and funniest waiter service I've had in a long time and the food was out of this world. When we left, the family Kumar had their coats on ready to go but hadn't bothered us at all. Just brilliant!!!

This is definitley the nicest Indian restaurant i have ever eaten in, the food was incredible. The portions were quite generous and you will be guaranteed to be stuffed when you leave. I would highly recommend the Makhani Chicken.Great value for money also. Service was quite good only fault i found was that the restaurant was a bit cold and portable heaters were used to warm the room.
