Have eaten here before a few times and always found the food and service excellent. However, on this occasion the food wasn't as great as usual. We ordered mussels for starters which were tiny when they arrived out from the kitchen, looked like they had too much heat. No side plates were given for the bread which was annoying and no finger bowls after the mussels. The mains were much better, my partner ordered the steak which was cooked perfectly ( medium- rare) and I ordered the duck which was slightly over cooked but it came with lovely stuffing and vegtables. The dessert menu didn't leave much to the imagination so we both skipped it.

Had a great experience here, the service is one of the friendliest and relaxed I have come across. We shared the crostini with cheese and pesto to start - this was just ok, nothing special to be honest. For mains, I had the seafood with linguini and really enjoyed it, perfect portion and lovely big juicy prawns and plenty of mussels. We had 3 glasses of wine each and a coffee and bill came to €63 which we were happy with for peak sat night dining. Will definitely go back when next in Galway!

My wife and I visited Gemelles last night without booking in advance. We were brought upstairs and attended to by a very helpful waitress. We both had the goats cheese parcels as starters. A perfect choice. I went for the Fillet steak with home fries, beautifully cooked and well presented. She went for Carbonara Fetuccine Verde. This was washed down with Ljalba, Rioja Reserva. Dessert was the uniquely presented Cheese Cake with icecream. We finished with 2 coffees. A very enjoyable meal at a good price.

My girlfriend and I were in Galway on Tuesday night for her HDip Graduation and visited Gemelles for a pre-ceremony meal. Lovely interior, intimate feel with the low ceilings and little nooks. The 2 courses for €20 from the A la Carte is excellent value with a good choice on offer. For starter I had the duck liver pate which was very tasty and presented beautifully. My only quibble of the whole evening (only a minor one) was that my girlfriend asked for the crostini to start without the cheese, we were informed that this was not possible because they were already made up, in my opinion a request that should be easily met by a restaturant of Gemelles' quality). Instead she had the soup which wa nice, a massive portion! Both mains were outstanding- mine was gunea fowl cooked perfectly as it was very moist and tasty, accompanying sauce was excellent. She had the lamb shank which fell from the bone as a good lamb shank should do, the dish was gorgeous and even though I was extremely happy with my guinea fowl I was slightly envious looking at that lamb! 1 dessert (really good shortbread with mascarpone and strawberries), 1 espresso and a bottle of house red the bill came to €61. Excellent value for money as the quality of the food and cooking shone through. Excellent service (apart from my minor quibble), friendly and attentive.

We were there for a meal on Monday night. Service was good. No long waits between courses. All happy with starters. Three of us went for fillet steak and all were cooked as ordered! The other two went for Fish and Fajihitas and were very happy with their meal. We had two deserts and ended up having four bottles of wine. Overall bill was 180 euros which I felt was very reasonable for a meal for five with wine.. We will definitely return.

Wonderful yet again!!! Can heartily recommend this restaurant and especially their 2 courses for €20 offer at the moment...you can have rib eye steak...prawns..duck...these are €20 on their own!!! Would recommend the rib eye...so soft you barely need a knife to cut it :) Helpful and friendly staff and other than whingey woman customer who complained that her food got cold too quickly- stop talking and eat so!!! we had a fab night :) Didn't even go near desserts mind u have tasted their triple choc mousse is to die for!!!

Had dinner her last monday night - there was good few people in the place so made the atmosphere pleasent for a monday night. We went for the 2 for 2 menu - I had crostini which was tasty but my partner had duck liver which was outstanding. For mains I went for duck which I have to say was lovely and crispy and stuffing was fab. It came with baby potatoes and veg which I thought i would have to order seperatly but came with dish. My partner had fajita - which where also so tasty as spices on meat where perfect. We shared a dessert but i was so full that could hardly eat it. House bottle of wine was €15 and it was nice. Had really nice evening and will go again on next trip to Galway.

I had a really enjoyable eating experience here the weekend before last. The food was really delicious and the only bad thing I can say about it was that the chips with the steak were not homemade (very fussy!!). We both had the goats cheese parcel with the pepper relish for starters and it was absolutely to die for, very very tasty and I'm a big goats cheese fan. We both also went for the rib eye steak for mains with mushroom sauce which was again delicious. I wasn't expecting too much with the rib eye but it was of good quality and we both really enjoyed it. We shared a dessert which was a chocolate mousse type thing which was again really good. We also had a caraffe of red for 22 euro which was lovely. The early bird menu is really good value with E19 for 2 courses and and E24 for 3 courses. I will definitely be returning here for some good grub.

We had dinner here on Tuesday night and it was nice. I had thai fish cakes to start, my partner had the crostini and we both had steak. Food was nice, wine good and staff friendly. The restaurant itself was quaint, not my personal style but I'd say the tourists love it! Enjoyed the evening and I would return.

ate in Gemelles on sat night and have to say we were so disappointed, starter was cold, had thai red vegetarian curry and it couldn't have had any coconut milk in it, it was so spicy it took my breath away, not like any I have tasted before, had to smother it in loads of yogurt to get a few mouth fulls, we were also sat under an arch with heat beating down over our heads, not to mention any dust also coming out from the heater, we ordered the sauvignon blanc at just over €20 and later when I visited the ladies I was disappointed to see on the specials board a bottle of Sauvignon blanc for €15.50, we could not have seen the specials board from where we were sat, we were annoyed that had we had seen it we could have saved ourselves €6, also one of the waitresses we had kept smacking our tea cups, menus etc on our table which was quiet annoying, was let down big time this time, I wont be back

Although we did not booked the table we were lucky to find a place. Staff were friendly and helpful but the food was a little bit disappointing. My garlic bread which was served with pasta was cold and my husband's chicken was overcooked. The place is nice and cosy but they could pay more attention to their food.

This place is /ok/, nothing spectacular. Staff were attentive and friendly. Despite the poor dessert option, they actually managed to make a proper (and yummy) brownie (as opposed to a chocolate cake masquerading as a brownie). Starters were ok, but nothing special. Mains were the same; tasty but nothing to write home about. Portion sizes for some items are huge, and for others, just average. No imagination in catering for lactose-intolerant or gluten-intolerant amongst the group, because everything seems to be pre-prepared, which is poor in this day and age. House wine is more than drinkable, and the litre carafe is good value too. Not a bad place for a crowd, if you want average food and there are no fussy eaters, but I wouldn't go there if it were a special occasion.

Loved this restaurant, didnt look much from outside but was really atmospheric and had a lot of character. Food was delicious, skipped the starters but my husband had crostini and said it was delicious. I had fillet steak with mash and pepper sauce for main, it was cooked (medium) to perfection and melt in the mouth tasty. Was disappointed they hadnt got my 1st choice dessert but had the ice cream instead which was lovely. Service was excellent, attentive but not rushed. Hadnt booked and were accomodated and lingered a good 2+ hrs. The house wine (1 litre) is good value too.

I visited here with a friend on Tuesday night. It was busy and they found us a great table without having booked ahead. The service was second to none. It was possibly the best meal I've ever had and my friend felt the same way. Big, tasty portions. Excellent value for money. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be going back when I'm in Galway next.

Have eaten here on two occasions and both impressed. One of the more reasonably priced restaurants down the Quay St area of the city. The chicken tagliatelle is wondefully seasoned in a creamy sauce with tender chicken pieces and tasty veg - an excellent mid week choice at a very reasonable price. Service is swift and efficient. Will definetly be back!

Dined here with my girlfriend, had not made a booking but the waitress did her best to get us a table as quick as possible, had the Tiger Prawns in Filo pastry to start with were really good, then had the Cod for mains while my gorlfriend had the mussels and clams which were amazing. The service was top notch and the food was faultless

We visited the restaurant on a busy Saturday evening and even though it was really busy the service and the food was perfect. We had the crostinis to start with, they were very nice and the portion size was very good. For the main course all 4 of us had the fillet steaks, and they were absolutely fantastic. Cooked to perfection and the steaks were very big. The meal was very good value for money as we had the starters, steaks for maincourse, bottle of wine with the meal and Irish coffees for dessert, the meal cost about 50 euros per head. I would recommend this place for everyone who loves good food :-)

We had a gorgeous dinner here last Sunday night- we got huge portions of really nice fresh fish, and a nice side of veggies and potato gratin. Really good value at arround €15. My salmon was cooked perfectly and the butter sauce- which I usually find pretty bland- complimented it perfectly. House wine was excellent- we could have drunk a second bottle! Service was fine with nice friendly staff, but a broken credit card machine left us counting up our pennies and struggling to pay the bill. The restaurant itself is nice, with a cosy wood burning stove adding to the pleasentness, and perfectly located on Quay Street. I'd definitely go back!

Had a pleasant evening here- warm and cosy on a horrible evening. Food was grand- duck a bit dry and fajita's a little overcooked, but overall good value on the early bird menu. Nothing to rave about but not a disappointment either. Service average too

I had the cod and the fish was a little overcooked and dry. The waiter spilt drinks on 2 ocassions and was less than apologetic, infact he laughed at what had happened and didnt offer to replace the drinks. The early bird menu works out the same price as Al La Carte and is not good value. The beer selection is very limited, only serving Heineken or an Italian beer. The restaurant was freezing too. Not a cosy atmosphere at all.

Had dinner at Gemelles with my mother. Not being a Galway local, it was recommended to me by a friend so we took a chance. we weren't disappointed. my goat's cheese parcel for starters was amazing. huge portion of cheese, warm and melt in the mouth, served with a delicious red pepper chutney and basil coulis.my mother's crostini was delicious and again a very big portion. For main course we went for organic sirloin steak and fillet of cod with basil mash, as well as sauteed mushrooms, onions, garlic potatoes and vegetables. everything was delicious and cooked to perfection.the portions were huge!!only half was finished but not for want of trying.along with a half caraffe of house red wine, the entire meal came to a very reasonable 67euro.well worth it.if any downside it was the service which was a little slow but that is definitely better than being rushed out!!i'll be back on my next visit to Galway!

I went here for dinner with my boyfriend on Monday. Food was ok, nothing too special. I had chicken fajitas and my boyfriend had the smoked chicken pasta, partly because there was very little else available on the menu "due to the busy weekend". Service wasn’t great.

We visited Galway for my Boyfriends Birthday. Gemelles was the location for our romantic Saturday evening meal. Both pretty full from a late lunch so we only needed a Main course and perhaps a sneaky dessert. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I ordered Stuffed Aubergine and a side order of duchess potatoes and my other half a rack of lamb. Ragu sauce and vegetables is something I would expect as a student and the lamb was meant to be cooked medium - five separate cutlets and all with varying degrees of cooking (Medium, very well done, burnt....)and to top it all...everything was cold. Needless to say we didn't bother with dessert. I wouldn't recommend.....

I had an amazing time at this resturant. I went with 3 others and sat at the window. The food was amazing, the wine was great and we had one of the best meals we had in a long time. Another great reason to go to Galway.
