I had lunch here and ordered the small pizza. I thought that I had received the wrong order because when my meal arrived it was anything but small. The pizza had the thinnest crust I've ever had, it was scrumptious! And it only cost about €5.50. Very good value for money. The atmosphere was nice, candles on every table, and staff were very friendly. Thumbs up!

We came here for a bite to eat with friends, the food was lovely quality, most opting for Pizzas and Pasta, the wine was lovely, we had the pinot grigio which was such ggod value. The astmosphere was fun and lively. Dispite being very busy the staff we nice and helpful. Overall a fun night with great value, would definately recommend this place for a great night out with a bunch of friends.

We had tried to book a table for 4people earlier in the day but were told they only took bookings for parties of 6 or more and to just drop in and they'd try fit us in. When we got there that evening and asked for a table for 4 we were asked had we made a booking?!?! Anyways they had no table free so the waitress took our number and said she'd ring when a table became available, which she did about 20mins later. The inside is "shabbier" than I remember it being (its been a few years since I was there), it, in my opinion, could do with a bit of brightening up, but I love the candle in the waxy wine bottle on the table. I got the garlic bread with cheese which was really nice except that the underside was quite a bit burnt. I got the spaghetti bolognese for main, the spaghetti was cooked to perfection and the beef was of really good quality, I wasn't too mad about the sauce itself, it tasted a bit like tinned spaghetti sauce to me, but maybe it just wasn't to my taste. Service was very good, we had a really lovely waitress and she was super, flying around serving lots of tables, and refilling water jugs without having to be asked etc. I would probably go again but I'd like to see the interior improved a bit.
Response:
Hello Thank you for taking the time to leave at review. Our interior: We recently had new windows & door fitted. The place also has been recently repainted and new furniture installed. The style of the restaurant is rustic/quirky. It is not a modern style restaurant. It has operated successfully since the late 80's. Modern restaurants come and go as they lack the atmosphere & warmth of an establishment such as ours. Our sauce: Is freshly cooked, I take great exception to your comment "bit like tinned spaghetti sauce".

We ate in there for a late lunch on Monday, it was beautiful day and the sun was shining, but the food, not great, we both had pizzas and so wont have them again, the white wine was nice, the staff all over the place and I think one of them was crying at one stage. Wont be back
Response:
Dear Orcas, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am a bit surprised by your comment "food, not great" & " the staff all over the place". I would like to invite you back for lunch on us, but would like additional feedback from you the negative points you mentioned. Please contact me info@fatfreddys.net . Thank you

The restaurant is very small and the tables are situated quite close to each other. We arrived with no appointment so we had to wait a few mins for a table. Didnt mind this but the waitresses seemed to forget us for a while once we were seated. People who came after us were served before us. The food was quite tasty-had a pizza and a pasta carbonara. Thought the value was ok, considering the portions were large for the pasta. An average of 10-15 for a mains. Foodwise-it was lovely but would only return on a quieter night for service and atmosphere.

Very expensive for quality of food you get. Was here on Sat nite of Arts Week & walked in at 8.30 without reservation. Waitress seemed disinterested. She forgot my starter until I brought it to her attention but as my main was just about to arrive I cancelled it. She wasn't overly apologetic. I had Quesidialla (?), it was edible but at nearly 15 euro should have been better. My partner had caesar salad to start but was just lettuce swimming in, albeit nice, salad dressing. No wine coolers here, wine is just left on table!! On request they will put it into their fridge inside if there's room. My partner had pizza which he said was alright. At 70 euro for 2 ok mains & 1 starter with bottle wine, prob wouldn't go back here. O.k experience.

Expected cheap and cheerful judging by past recommendations and reviews. Sadly I found our waitress quite rude and the food well below par.

It was the second time I ate in Fat Freddys and again I had a very pleasant experience. We were lucky to just walk in without booking the table even thought it was bank holiday Sunday night. I love the atmosphere and surroundings in Fat Freddys, it’s very small place but very cosy. Staff is lovely and very friendly, and even thought there were only two women serving the whole place, the service was very fast and prompt. Our starters arrived very quickly and they were ok, we only had mozzarella garlic bread and they were served in those small little baskets which I didn’t like, I think plate is a better option. The food is good, my pizza was very tasty (loads of fresh ingredients!) and I love the thin base which is not too heavy. Overall a lovely place to go for a casual dinner with the other half and I will definitely go back.

I popped into Fat Freddie's with my friend on a Friday night and we were happy that no reservations were needed. We were seated immediately but that's where it went downhill. Our waitress was so rude that from the start there was a bad taste in our mouths. Each course was delivered with a scowl and grunt. The quality of food wasn't great and I could only recommend the garlic mushroom starter. If you can overlook the importance of good service then maybe Fat Freddie's would be ok.

This restaurant is way over priced for mediocre food.I got spaghetti bolognse which costed €14.50! and it had no vegetables in it.

Been here a few times before and I think it's a safe bet for a nice meal at a good price. however this night it was pretty quiet- only 4 other tables full so there wasn't much of an atmosphere. Service was ok but my partner was offered a free refill of his drink when we ordered, the waitress never actually came round to give it to him. good cheap eats but not for a special occasion

It you want a yummy pizza and cold beer with a cool atmosphere, this is the place on quay st. With chequered table clothes and fat freddy cartoons on the walls, its very easy on the eye. My favourite pizza is the gourmet vegetarian or you can opt for chef's selection of toppings if feeling adventurous. Chilli oil and parmesan cheese provided. It is extremely good value for money. Make sure to visit the ladies toilet ( only if female of course) for a surprise experience!

Went with five of my friends... food was really good and portions were huge. Waitress was ok but she forgot our drinks so had to ask twice. Its pretty small and it was busy when we were there which meant the couple beside us were practically having dinner with us! Would go back just for their pizza

I would walk over hot coals to get to Fat Freddys in Galway. the Nachos are the best in the country, the staff are great (even with kids) and great value for money. Portions terrific - certainly did not leave hungry. Spent Paddy’s week in Galway, Fat Freddys was head and shoulders the best eat out we had. Faultless.

Was visiting Galway with my boyfriend and had to bring him to Fat Freddys as it brings back memories of summers in Galway when I was young. Very happy that it hasn't changed much. We went in at about 9 o'clock on a Monday night and it was pretty busy (beginning of January!) so there was a nice atmosphere. The woman who sat us to our seats was a bit rude but we had a different guy serving us who was pretty friendly. I had garlic bread for starter and my boyfriend had chicken wings. The garlic bread was lovely and moist. Chicken wings had a gorgeous tomato sauce over them, portion was massive! We both ordered pizzas and they were savage! We were really taking our time over our pizzas so we ordered a second bottle of wine. The waiter seemed a bit p*ssed off about this, even though there were about 4 other tables still eating! All-in-all it was a great meal, fantastic value for money, will go again the next time I'm in Galway!

Being a Dub I am probably not qualified to say this place is an institution but from reading the rest of the reviews and talking to friends from Galway I gather the locals love it. I love going to Galway, the craic is always mighty, Fat Freddies is a great place to go get pizza before skulling pints. Its close to all the activity and the food is good. The only problem is that they do not take bookings and you generally have to wait. I would not recommend this place for a romantic evening because if you think its is romantic then you would probably be the sort of person who probably will never have a romantic meal out but is great for a casual grub after shopping or before a night out.

I visited on a Saturday, around 5pm.Place was very quiet but there seemed to be an abundance of staff.Even with all the staff, the waitress had to ask us our order twice(two of us, she didnt write it down), then asked us twice what we wanted to drink, but we never got the drinks until i asked another waitress!!I was annoyed.Food was good though. I got the Vegetarian pizza and my companian got the Veggie Calzone. Both were very nice; pizza base was nice and light, not too doughy, and there was plenty of toppings.Reasonably priced, but far better Italian restaurants in Galway.

Fat Freddys has good pizza. The pizza bianco is delicious as is the gourmet vegetarian. It can be a bit hit and miss though. The quality of their other dishes on the menu isn't too great. Their pizza's are reasonably priced and their carafe of wine is cheap and drinkable, so if you're looking for a cheap evening out, Fat Freddys might be the place.

The summer no.1 all time rip-off restaurant! What a pity..staff was LOVELY, were very obliging in serving children's menu to not-so-hungry seniors (lots of bonus points for that!) but the bill came as a shock...€80+ for a quick (small) bite at lunch???? for 4 (and 2 of those kid sized!) Given the quality we got (price and food) elsewhere over the next few days we wonder how Fat Freddy's still does any business (poor eejit tourists ...homegrown and foreign!) as for the Quesadilla...Céard sa diabhal ???!!!!

Overrated.....is the only word that comes to mind when I hear the name Fat Freddys. I've eaten there a number of times. Mediocre at best. Some bad experiences have been lumps of flour in the chowder, and undercooked veg. I mean sure they do a good pizza, but hey...I do a good pizza too. Nothing fantastic.

The food here is so good! I went there yesterday looking for some lunch and was definitely not disappointed.. I had the Calzoni and my sister had another pizza and they were both delicious! plenty on the plates and more than enough to fill us. My sister actually asked for a doggy bag to bring home her leftovers for later - something she has never done before! Highly rate it for good, no nonsense food in a friendly and fun atmosphere. The service was great and the location is brilliant!

Pricey but decent. 3 of us went to lunch there one sunday on the recommendation of a Galway friend. The meal itself was pretty good. We shared a starter of antipasto, then had a small pizza and a desert each. The food was nice but nothing exceptional. With 2 beers, a glass of wine and 2 minerals the bill came to nearly €100! For lunch! So pretty expensive for pizza. And we found the service to be pretty bleak, once the food was infront of you it was very difficult to get attention.

I was in Galway for the weekend and ate in here one night. I had pizza which was so nice, lovely base on the pizza. The house white wine was very nice too. Everyone in my party really enjoyed their dishes. The only fault would be that the restaurant is very small and the tables are very close together.

I have eaten here numerous times and have always been pleased. The Sweet Chili Chicken Pizza is great and so is the antipasto plate for starters. The room has a good atmosphere and is well decorated. My ex had enchiladas which I wouldn't rate but I wouldn't get anything other than pizza here as they never disappoint with such a lovely crunchy crust and good balance of toppings. Service is always pleasant and efficient.

Nice place, not too fancy, straight forward Pizza etc. I have been here a few times on trips to Galway. This time, our seating was so crammed, I was practically sitting over our small table for two. The wine is reasonably priced, the Montepulciano tasted great. We shared the nachos for starters and both had the pizza with roast chicken and brie. In short, the food was great. Its always difficult to tell if this place is so busy because of its perfect location or if the punters are returning all the time. I like the place, its nice and simple and the staff are pretty cool. Next time I am in Galway I will be back again.

Went here on the 11th of April at about 9pm as that is a good time to eat in Dublin. We found this place and liked the menu, so went in. We could choose a seat, not too many on offer though, and we were fine until another couple sat behind us and then we had no room whatsoever!! I got the chimichanga which was gorgeous, but my b/f got the meatballs and he said they were cold and raw in the middle. Also the garlic bread that came with them was pretty cold too. Not too many drinks on order and when your not used to Gal way you don’t want to have to go to another pub to get a drink and bring it in. Price was reasonable. But the service wasn’t the best. Nobody checked on u after they gave us our food and they didn’t seem to care.

Being a native galwegian I used to think this place was great but after a recent visit it has really gone downhill and I definitely will not be returning! Prices are very expensive for what it is and frankly I feel the place is quite jaded and dirty. I had brought a friend of mine hoping to introduce them to a galway favourite but we were decidedly disappointed. Had garlic bread and chicken wings to start. The garlic bread was dry, burnt and scantly presented and the chicken wings were soggy and disgusting not at all what I expected. We had two pizzas for the main course and again we were unsatisfied. They were burnt and stodgy. It also annoyed me that they try to be too imaginative with their pizzas and don't just do simple toppings like pepperoni or ham and mushroom. This meal cost us nearly 50euros (for lunch!!) and I left wishing I had went to the italian across the road.

Have been eating here for many years when in Galway. When myself and my husband went here last week was a bit disappointed - the place looks jaded and the price for a simple enough Pizza was extortionate we felt at 16euros - nothing very special about it for that price either. We started with nice salsa and guacamole with tortillas, but you wouldn't leave here stuffed on the portion sizes - disappointing. Will be trying another resturant next time we're in Galway and staying away from Fat Freddies unfortunately

I had the seafood chowder for starters, which I highly recommend one of the finest in Galway. For the main course, the spicy meatballs were delicious. My girlfriend was disappointed though. Her lasagne had a puddle of grease on the top of it, which turned her off her whole meal. Nice cosy restaurant and a nice environment.

An absolute must whether you live in Galway or are just visiting. I've been going here for fifteen years...since i was seven!!...and I've loved it everytime. The best pizza anywhere and loads of crazy crap on the walls...what more could you want!

Cheap and cheerful! Diningroom is small, a bit thrown together and cramped. If you're sitting by the door which will open 45 times an hour on a busy Saturday night, you will get frozen. The menu is big with a mix of texican and Ire-talian. Big pizzas and burritos are all very good. Portions are more than generous. The clientelle ranges from young families on a Saturday afternoon to students every other time and a decent mix of tourists, locals and everything in between. Not Michelin star and not marketing itself as that either. Well worth a visit.

Do you like the comic? Fat Freddys Cat? It's a cult thing, the place is covered in comic covers etc. It's a simple pizzaria, small wine list, poor service but that's because the place is always King Street Galway busy. Easy food good place, very enjoyable if you're a comic freak...

I've been a fan of this place for years! It definitely was the place to be 10yrs ago, but things have changed a bit! It is still really popular, but I think that it lacks the atmosphere it once had! Food is still reasonably good, just pity bout the service at times!

About twice a year I visit Galway and everytime I go to Fat Freddys for their fab food and last week was no different. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere on a busy evening is buzzing. Chowder is yummy and pizzas here are top notch, a defo for a casual bite in the heart of Galway city.

Great food, great atmosphere, overall great time. Fat Freddy's had the feel of a Saturday night even thought it was a horrible wet Tues night that we were there. For starters I had the parma ham and rocket bruchetta that could've probably fed a small family! So one starter could be shared. The large pizzas are big enough for two, thus leaves room for the lovely desserts! Yummy!

I have eaten in Fat Freddie’s on several occasions and I always leave the place thoroughly satisfied! The food is excellent, pizzas are cooked to perfection, and the place is very quaint with a relaxed bohemian atmosphere.

I visit Galway regularly and me and my friends LOVE this place!! You cant book a table but the staff are great and if u go to a bar or something for a drink they ring you within 20 mins when a table becomes available. The food here is great, enchiladas are my favourite and the pizzas are great too! The decor is cool, a really nice place, a must for all when in Galway!!

Nice place. The pizzas myself and my boyfriend had there were both excellent, very tasty and perfectly crispy. Recommended.
