The Anglers Rest is one of those lovely countryside pubs with amazing food and just a stones-throw from the city. I have been a couple of times, last time was on a date after spending one of the only really nice days so far this year in the Phoenix Park. Despite being late afternoon getting there, it was quite busy. Being able to site outside in the sun and enjoy good food is great (at night time they do have heaters outside too). We had starters and mains. For starters we shared the Duck Liver parfait which was not only beautifully presented but tasted devine! Main course, given the abundant sunshine, I selected the seafood salad. After the starter I should have ordered a starter portion as it was a great portion of very well cooked fish. Squid is one of those hard-to-get-right fish and it was cooked to perfection. Very tasty and filling salad (only thing that let it down a little was the dressing with looked like a cheap marie-rose out of a bottle). My dining partner had the fish and chips - beautiful chunky chips and really great fish, served with a nice tartare sauce. Overall, a great place. Wine glasses definately need polishing (they were very dirty at the base and had watermarks) but aside from that and the sauce served with the salad - the whole experience was amazing as always! Service is great, the manager (or owner, not too sure?) is very plesant to deal with and I will definitely be back with some more new diners. If you have not tried it, they I suggest you do, I hear there are some great nights out there too - its a big venue and lots of fun! Easy parking across the road, great food, great service you cant go wrong!

Had a beautiful three course meal with my husband and sister in law & her husband. The girls shared the chicken wings which were a generous portion and delicious. The boys had the black pudding starter and the crab starter, both equally good but the portion size of the crab was disappointing. For mains was two sea bass which went down a treat as well as a warm seafood salad which was so-so and delicious Beer battered Fish & Chips. Good selection of desserts and staff were pleasant & attentive. Great value overall, I will be back.

My daughter brought me here for birthday treat,as she loves it here, I have passed by many times but never visited. I was surprised how busy place was as it's very out of the way. I had the chicken main which was very tasty and I decided on Eton Mess for dessert, I make this myself at home and my family love it. It is quite a lovely dessert packed with fresh fruit and fresh cream and mixed with broken pieces of meringue. When it arrived it looked lovely, but I was disappointed with it, there was NO fruit in it just had juice at end of glass also only two small lumps of meringue. Whoever makes dessert look at my version of how to make Eton mess it is quite Yummy

This place is just fantastic ! The service is amazing, staff always here to help you and ready to advise you on meals. The value is also perfect, the quality of food is great! I love the atmosphere, always the fire places on and typical bands playing in a corner. I would DEFINITELY recommend this restaurant to anybody for a real Irish experience!

I have been to the Anglers rest several times, mainly during the day. We booked for a table of four for 08.30pm on a Thursday night. The table became ready at 09.05 pm and it went downhill from there. I started with the Clonakilty pudding which was cold , my main of traditional fish and chips was served with dried up peas, the chips were more aptly described as skins ,the fish was small with a lot of batter. The desert of creame brule was ice cold and tastless. One of my fellow dinners ordered the steak well done, it arrived very bloddy. To be fair the others enjoyed their pork belly and sea bass. The bill of €160.00 would be reasonable if the food had been up to standard. The venue is great its a pity to see standards slip

Stopped by this restaurant after a busy day Christmas shopping, and was delighted to get a table near the open fire. The interiors are very traditional and cosy. I had the chicken breast for main, which was delicious. The only downside was that there wasn't much veg with it, and the prices are a little too high. Otherwise a really good experience though.

Visited on a Sunday evening with a family party. We really liked the setting and atmosphere with a lovely open fire and some traditional musicians. The service was friendly but a little bit slow. Most of our party opted for the fish and chips for main course. This was generally well received and the chips came in for special praise. I had pan fried cod which I found delicious. I had bread and butter pudding for desert which I love to see on a menu but this one was only average. My biggest gripe was that for a seafood restaurant there wasn't enough choice of seafood on the menu. For mains you could have pan fried cod, fish and chips (I presume cod again) or a fish pie. There was a monkfish dish on the specials but at €28.95 for one course I don't think too many people would be opting for it. This was disappointing as I was looking forward to a nice selection of seafood.

Meeting a friend in the Anglers Rest for lunch we were greeted by friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. We both settled on chowder for starters which didn't disappoint although the brown bread that was served with it was quite tasteless and processed. When ordering our mains I asked if the prawns used were fresh or frozen. The server was quite reluctant to be specific but eventually when pressed told us that they were frozen. Knowing this I still proceeded to order the open prawn sandwich while my companion ordered Calamari. When the orders arrived, my friend tucked in with relish and pronounced them delicious while I was forced to send back my order as the prawns were still frozen on the inside. I declined another dish although I was offered one. This is the second time that I have been served frozen prawns in this restaurant and it has spoiled the venue for me. I will not be going back.

there was few communion dinner party when we went so the menu choices were very limited, including starter and dessert. this was slightly disappointing as we have brought our friend from overseas wanting to try their food. dishes on menu were mainly of carvery type, which you can easily get in a pub. no fish & chips or lots of nice dishes we used to have.. our friend like the setting ,but there were lots of kids running around.service was a bit slow. overall ok experience, maybe we just went on the wrong day.

Ate here after golf one evening, had the intention of just a pint and some bar food however upon entering we were treated to more of restaurant experience. Fantastic setting both inside and out and also the bar, chicken wings and calamari were very good to start and so were the mains, we had a slight problem with one of the main courses however this was dealt with exceptionally well by the manager which added to the charm of the place. Log fire burning while we ate and chatted, some nice wine and pints added this to be a little gem of a place and a very enjoyable evening

Greetings. I had heard nice things about this place from friends so I decided to pop along, on arrival it seemed like a nice place, real old skool, and traditional Irish style. Unfortunately the day we went was a communion day so they had a special menu running, I was looking forward to having a choice of some seafood I heard good things about, but this would not be the case. The food we got was ok, nice, but O was a bit disappointed I could not try the food I went there for. Would I go back? Yes.

I went for dinner on Sunday the weekend before St Patrick's week with a friend. Normally i love this restaurant & always recommend it to my friends but i must say it was a big let down this time. I don't know whether it was because it was a Sunday but all the staff seemed to be on a major go slow. We were left waiting for a table for too long, left waiting for our order to be taken for over 20 minutes, left waiting for dessert menu for 15 minutes, left waiting for our dessert order to be taken for over 20 minutes and we weren't even offered a drink when our main course was served even though both our glasses were empty. At one stage i counted 6 staff behind the counter & only 1 on the floor. Another couple who got much the same service got up and left and so did we as the waiting was getting ridiculous & the restaurant was not particularly busy for the amount of staff that were on. Also it might be an idea to put a door at the stairs as there was a loud party going on upstairs & it was putting alot of customers off their dinner with all the tipsy & extremely loud customers running up & down the stairs, roaring & shouting at one another. I normally love this place but my last visit has left a bad taste & i wont be in a rush to go back.

I've been a couple of times recently. Last time I had pan fried salmon, this was served with the skin crispy and was beautiful. The crushed baby potaoes, slow roasted cherry tomatoes and black olives were the perfect compliment to the dish. My husband had the chicken wings and while they were exactly as he likes them, the portion could do with being bigger ;-)

Went here on Sunday for some lunch. I had the spicy chicken wings and a side of chips while my boyfriend had the fish and chips. Wings were lovely and spicy, and the dip on the side was also really nice. Had a taste of my boyfriends fish and it was cooked perfectly. Chips in this place are to die for! Service was quite good, you could see they were run off their feet but they made sure we were all right. Had two musicians playing traditional music which added to the atmosphere.Only gripe would be the water jug could have been a bit cleaner.

First time here for lunch on Sunday. We requested a table with side space to accommodate our buggy and the friendly waiter quickly got us one with no problem. The restaurant has a casual yet comfortable & elegant ambient. We were presented with the lunch menu. didn't see the 2/3 courses lunch as advertised on their website-perhaps that was for year 2010 gone. anyway, there were good selection on the menu. i had seafood chowder as starter and fish & chips for main. other half had friend calamari and braised shoulder of lamb. Chowder was very filling with lots of big fish chunks. the homemade chips were so crispy-one of the tastiest i'd in ages. my partner's braised lamb was very tender and nicely marinated. the calamari was a bit soggy though. total bill for 2 starters and 2 mains came close to 50. would recommend

I went to the Anglers for Sunday lunch recently and I was very pleasantly surprised! The menu was surprisingly good value and the food was excellent quality. There was traditional music live and the atmosphere was really great. We had children with us and the staff were very attentive with children's menus and seats, etc. Overall, really enjoyed it and will definitely be back for a long Sunday lunch!

Comfort food, served by competent staff. The fish pie got the big thumbs up. The waiter who was more than friendly gave us free desserts due to an extended wait for our starters. Thinking on his feet and was well received. Don't expect Michelin stars and you wont be dissapointed . One small gripe portions are a bit on the small side.

Finally ate here for dinner - had the fish & chips and I don't think I've ever had tastier chips & a lighter batter on the fish. it was such a good meal. Had the Baileys cheesecake for desert which was very nice indeed. Lovely spot on a summer's evening. Felt the service could have been a little more attentive though but wouldn't fault it in a major way.

Was here twice in last month. First time was weekday lunchtime, food was unbelievable. I had chicken caesar salad to start & cod & fish for main. Loved it, nicest food I'd eaten out in a while. As a result, went back last Bank Holiday Sunday in the evening. Had been dying to go back for delicious food & atmosphere. Disappointed with food. Shared caesar salad for starters which was good. Ordered cod & fish again but was horrified at what I got. Fish & chips tasted like they had been cooked earlier in the day & had been thrown into the microwave to be heated up. Fish was hot on outside & cold on inside & chips were tired & reheated. Service was excellent & atmosphere lovely, pity about the food second time around. Would go back but maybe just at lunch time as food probably cooked fresh then. This place has such potential. Lovely trad music in bar night we were there.

Atmosphere: Cosy Food: Fish and Chips in a seafood restaurant was very poor. Thick and hard batter on the fish and frozen chips. Not good enough. Service was slow Value: Would be okay if the food was up to scratch, but nothing is good value if what you are getting is bad.

I ate here last night with 3 others. They are seafood aficionados, and I am no slouch myself. We shared 2 platters (about €35 per platter and they are for 2 people) The platter had potted herring lobster crab claws dressed crab meat smoked salmon salad prawns in a garilc pink sauce mussles caper berries The seafood got an 8 out of 10. The mussles were overcooked and a few were still closed = dangerous. We shared 1 bread and butter pudding and one choc gateaux. Both were superb! 9+ out of 10 Service slipped a bit. Sloppy service of coffee, had to ask for sourdough 3 times and when it came it was way too hard. But the food and atmosphere were so good easy to forgive it. I am often critical but very strong performance and fully recommend it. good job! PS we tipped accordingly - about 17.5%

I have not visited this place for four years and i heard it had a re vamp. They seriously need to look up the word revamp, it is one of the dirtiest and uncomfotable places i have ever eaten. Food was average and expensive. Took 40 minutes for one soup to be served. Smoke coming from outdoor chimney chocked everyone passing by. Dull and dreary. Will not be going back.

I hadn't been here for two or three years so was pleasantly surprised by the new fresh décor . We had the cod which was one of the specials ,excellent dill sauce and vegetables and the steak and chips on next table looked good. When we arrived we were not greeted with the best of greetings but that improved as the service went on.Great wine list ,two musicians playing whilst we ate ,all in all made a great atmosphere .Nice experience so we will be returning .Improve the customer service and you have a gem .

Angler’s rest is a really nice restaurant, the environment; especially if you are upstairs with the piano playing is phenomenal. The food is at a good standard, it is a little bit expensive for what you getting on the plate, but I take it that I am paying for location. The staff isn’t the quickest but it friendly enough. It’s a good place for taking your parents to dinner. I love the location, because I love Chapelizod.

Visited on Bank Holiday Monday - they had Sunday menu available however had run out of the majority of dishes (alternatives were available) Shared the crab claws which were very tasty and quite meaty. I had swordfish, but it came on a curry flavoured sauce with baby boiled potato. Overpowered the fish a bit. Other half had the fish pie - looked great but he couldn't touch it for 10mins as it was boiling hot. 69 including bottle of aussie chardonnay...bit on the pricey side given it's still got a pub grub feel to it.

Went here for lunch on Easter Monday with a couple of friends. The place wasn't overly busy so we expected the food to be served without too much delay. We were disappointed. Our starters came out after about 30 minutes and half of the order was incorrect. Food was tasty and staff did their best to remedy the lateness. But the most surprising part was the price! Not good value for money at all. There are far better places to eat in Dublin 15 which are much more economical. At the end of the day this is just a pub serving food.

Went here on a Sunday (were there is a set Sunday menu) with my partner and I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, although the food is more expensive for what you recieve the presentation of the food was excellent. So I would have to say that it is a little gem tucked away and is well worth a visit.

very disappointed with the food, value and service. Sunday lunch menu overpriced and food not up to scratch. staff unfriendly, did not even say thank you when processing payment, front of house staff really in need of training. the only thing going for this restaurant is the open fire, location, and old bar decor. will not be going back.

An improvement on our last visit, but still a way to go. Went to lunch, space a bit open & tables close together, nice open fire, new furniture. Food ok, pub grub, but not excessively priced, you wouldn't be running back licking your lips. Wait staff unprofessional & brusque or over familiar, asked about dinner menu no info given. I like this place as it has nostalgia for me, I await good management who can successfully run the dining end, so far all have been pretty dismal, & I have been coming here for about 30 years. Come on guys, put a bit of effort in, it will pay off.

Havent been to the Anglers for a number of years and went last Sunday afternoon with a toddler in tow Very disappointed with the entire experience not very welcoming - when we enquired about a high chair the response was"There might be one down the back!!" Had to request a children's menu when they came to take our order - when food arrived it was lukewarm (from the lunch menu) and no-one came to check - would not be back!

I ate here with a group for Thanksgiving. I am a regular and have shared some of the negative experiences shared by other reviewers, including most frustratingly a lack of feed-back from complaints, but will confine this review to my recent visit. I had the €14 special of the Mussels, Chips & Paulaner Beer. The beer was excellent, served ice cold and to perfection. The mussels too were good, but the chips were of the frozen & run of the mill variety. I noticed this because my friends who'd ordered steak sandwiches had huge chunky & delicious looking home-made chips. I finished off with a strong espresso, served with half a flake, a nice touch. The Angler's Rest can't be faulted for atmosphere, and the staff are refreshingly down to earth and friendly. I hope this restaurent takes reasonable criticism on board now so it can flourish in the future.

Have to agree with a couple of the past reviewers - this place talks the talk but can't walk the walk. Lovely setting and lovely surroundings but that is kind of where the lovely ends. Had Sunday lunch here with the in-laws (it's popular for that kind of thing) We were a largish party - nine of us but there was no excuse for the amount of time it took for food to get to the table. It was a full half hour before we saw starters after ordering - the most complicated of which was a seafood chowder. You do the maths on how long it should take to put together a few bowls of chowder. Anyways, that would have been fine if it hadn't been the same story with getting the mains. Another 35/40 minutes before we saw more food after our starter plates had been taken. Unacceptable. The food itself was pleasant enough, although my own battered cod had been overdone so it was all I could do to get to the fish inside the batter! Only one dessert was gotten at the end of it all - a sickly sweet bread and butter pudding that was left for the waiter's dog - having informed us earlier that anything we didn't eat, the dog would be getting. Unsuitable table talk for a waiter? You decide! The bill was totally unacceptable for what is effectively pub grub. The wine list is over-priced and needs a review. Might go back for a quiet drink at some stage but will not be gracing the restaurant doors again I'm afraid.

If you want a great Sunday lunch - forget about this place. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Brought the in-laws last Sunday and despite the fact that it was busy enough I was not impressed. The ceasar salad was limp and the dressing was an affront to that great New York chef who introduced it to our palet. As for the sole - there was none if you know what I mean. Just some overcooked concoction of white mass that crumbled on the fork and tasted of hospital food. My mother in law is a great cook and I wish that I had paid her and saved the Anglers Rest the bother. Delays in service, bad food and downright cheeky bills. Do yourself a favor and test the water before you do what I did - take a party of six somewhere you wish you hadn't! Needless to say I will not be back.

We had lunch here recently and I was very disappointed. I have eaten here on a few occasions, but the service has gone downhill. When we arrived we were shown to our table very quickly, which was great. The waitress was wonderful, a very pleasant & helpful girl who worked hard. The trouble was she was on her own!!!! At one o'clock on a Friday!!!!! There were two other men (owners/managers?) but they didn't seem to be very active on the floor. The food was ok, but it took 25 minutes for the starters to arrive (Pate & Chicken Wings) and a further 30 minutes after that for two main course (Fish & Chips and Morrocan Salad). We finally got two cups of coffee almost two hours after we first sat down. The food was reasonable but the delay in service was appaling. I felt sorry for the waitress who was doing her best with very little help.

I like this place and more since they brightened it up a while back. It has excellent decor and the tables are well spaced out. Had the Cajun Mackerel which was tasty and meaty just as an oily fish should be. The club sandwich was just the right size for my partner and easy to manage not to mention delicious. Service was very prompt and informative. The pint of Guinness was perfect (slightly biased as we were just back from holidays). Desert was cheesecake which was good although I cannot see why the "baked" variety cannot be more available for restaurants not just this one.

We had an unfortunate experience here- were coming home from shopping at lunchtime and decided to stop off. Looked at menu and decided, as we would be eating out later, we'd try the open sandwich and soup. Supposedly 7.95 euro per menu, but we were charged almost 30 euro for 2 of us! The offer only applies monday-friday, but this is not stated on menu. When we returned home, we also notice same offer on their website! Rather unfortunate, but almost a month later, the restaurant/ pub will not make amends.

My family LOVE this restaurant. We saw the ad on the road one day which said it had a fish menu and that's what grabbed our attention. There are no fish restaurants in the area. We were delighted. We go for all our family occasions and take all our visitors there. I love to check out the specials and try something different every time. Then we just swap around and taste each others' dinners. I love the spuds. But my favourite is the tuna. A humungous steak of that and my mouth is watering. The service is friendly. Yes, you do have to wait a while but it's worth it. We don't go on Sundays because it's so busy, we give them the business during the week.

Second time visiting here. The venue itself is decorated briliinatly combining old pub charm with modern clean looks and is a very inviting space to eat. I had the burger and it was good while my girlfriend had the fish and chips (cod). The cod came in two pieces and one was excelletn while the other was overcooked and dry which was a shame. We avoided dessert as they were very dissapointing on our last visit (not made in their kitchen i would suspect). The service has improved since our last service and all in all i would recommend it as a nice spot to stop off and enjoy some decent casual pub grub in nice surroundings. The upstairs piano bar/restaurant looks excelletn again and may well be worth a visit next time.

myself and my fiancee ate here lst night - last minute decision to go out for food and this place was handy and i was there before so we went again. Both of us had the steak and it was yum. so tasty. Also served with mushrooms and onions and chips all included for €21 each which i thought was good. We had a dessert each also, bread and butter pudding and the apple and berry crumble - very tasty. The staff were fabulous - very attentive but not overly and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.. will def go back.. Keep up the good work guys.

Paulo Tullio's face on the door is definitely not a guarantee of good food, which is such a pity as I really like the decor and atmosphere of this pub. I have been here twice recently once on a Saturday afternoon and had some average calamari and seafood chowder. Our waiter was very pleasant, the same cannot be said for the front of house manager who couldn't manage a smile. On my next visit we went for Sunday lunch, I had mackerel which was tasteless which is a difficult way for mackerel to be unless it had been frozen and then cooked. Mackerel does not take kindly to being frozen. The others had the beef which was very tough. When asked by the waiter if everything was ok we told him the beef was very tough, he didn't even acknowledge the point so why ask if he didn't actually want to know!!

Initial impressions were mixed. The restaurant itself is lovely in appearance but when we were seated, our group was given one menu between the four of us! There was one other couple in the restaurant so hardly a menu shortage. After asking for extra menus and being disappointed to be told that many of the lighter options that are on the website menu are not available on a Sunday, things picked up a bit. The seafood chowder and soup were both lovely. There was a bit of a lag before our main courses arrived but they were worth waiting for. Top quality food. We had several different waiting staff. Some staff were incredibly helpful and efficient. Where as others were rather dour and unhelpful. That aside, the afternoon was a reasonably enjoyable dining experience.

This is a place with a long established and deserved reputation for good food. Starter was very well done, main course was off the specials board and we finished with a sinful desert. Coffee wasn't good but let's not get picky. All in all, great value and surroundings. Only problem is getting there and back - no way to enjoy a drink as it is off the main road so taxi required.

Used to live in the area and have eaten there regularly in the past but it was my first time there since it was done up. This time i had the worst fish chowder i've ever eaten due to the lumpy and tasteless soup. The fish platter for main course was as nice as ever though i'd still prefer if even one of the fish portions on it was hot. Girlfriend had salad to start and steak main course, which she said were ok. Overall it was disappointing, and the rating reflects how bad the chowder really was!!

2nd time in a month. Not dissappointed. We were a group of 6 (incl. 2 kids). I hadn't realised it was communion day but we were lucky they were able to accommodate us ( it was around 4pm). We all really enjoyed our meals, the fish was excellent. My sister was very please with the kids options too. Will be making it a regular for us from now on !

Took my son here for his communion dinner and was EXTREMELY disappointed with the service. Two groups that came in after us were served first. It was almost like our meal was forgotton. I ordered fish cakes and an hour later they came out and were both burnt. I used to LOVE DOOLANS and the OLD Anglers Rest. This is the second time I have eaten here since the change of ownership and the 4 of us were NOT impressed!!!

I visited The Anglers Rest for the second time yesterday evening and i thought that it was excellent. the food was tasty and very well presented. Portions are well sized. I had the Apple and berry crumble for dessert, while it was delicious the crumble on the top was a little bit soggy. Overall though it was a very enjoyable evening. i willl definetly be back.

Promotes itself as a family friendly restaurant?? On our most recent visit our 2 year old son was laughing at the table and the matradee told us to keep him quiet as the couple directly behind us had made a complaint. The music was so loud I'm surprised the couple could even hear our son let alone their own conversation. A professional matradee would have advised it’s a family friendly restaurant and moved the couple to an alternative table or upstairs but unfortunately I don’t believe there is a professional member of staff to be found in this restaurant. We were completely outraged and felt we were left with no other alternative but to leave immediately. Food is good but avoid if you have a young family or your children have a tendency to laugh!!

My family and I dined at the Anglers Rest Piano Bar last Friday evening we had a fabulous meal. I started off with the warm goats cheese bruchetta which was delicious and the best I have tasted, for the main course I had the fillet of beef which was cooked to perfection, my friend had the special Dover Sole and I could not help but steal some as it looked lovely, for desert I had the rhubarb and mixed berry crumble this was amazing and so fresh. I would highly recommend the Anglers Rest the atmosphere was very relaxed and the music in the background was realy nice and not to overbearing. The service was brilliant and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I will most certinally return to the Anglers Rest and think it would also be lovely for a Sunday afternoon.

We went for lunch on a Tuesday and were pleasantly suprised by the decor and menu. I had the brushetta and my partner had the fish cakes followed by the bread and butter pudding. The food was tasty and well presented and we loved the open fire and the fish tank on the wall was a nice touch! it was quiet but we felt very comfortable and really enjoyed our meal. Will recommend to our friends.

Sunday lunch at the Angler's Rest means good food and chaotic service. I think it is the best restaurant in the Castleknock area - and I am not alone in that opinion. Every Sunday, it is stuffed to its (fishy) gills - even in these straitened times. We have been there many times and last Sunday we had the sea bass and the ray. Both were delicious. Our order was taken promptly but then we had to wait....and wait.... We were served by 4 people at different stages. This was not intentional on their part or ours. It was just that we had to remind someone that we were waiting .....for our drinks.....for our mains.....for water.....for the dessert menu. The bar and waiting staff do their best but they just cannot cope with the numbers at peak times. They are run off their feet. But the atmosphere is buzzing, the food is good and it has a full bar. So we will be back.

My boyfriend and I went here for the second time last night and really enjoyed it. The early bird menu is short but there is very little price difference in ordering a main course and dessert from the a la carte menu so went for that. I would highly recommend the fish pie. The room is nicely decorated and is very warm and inviting and the staff are all very friendly. My only gripe is being charged €1.50 for 2 Digestive biscuiits with my coffee, when my boyfriend got a free Flake with his tea! Would gladly return though and think it would be really nice for a good night out with friends.

I haven't eaten in The Angler's Rest since they re-opened but the food was always great before that. Wright's seafood is fab. They double booked a party we had organised though which left us stranded last year but I'll be giving it another try. It's a lovely building with very friendly staff and a lovely warm atmosphere.

We used to go to The Anglers a lot when it was more of a Pub. This was the first time I went since it has been Trendified. 4 of us ate there the other day. I had the Fish Pie which was excellent. One of us had a beef special which was also excellent. My Wife had Fish and Chips which was well above standard. They had run out of Crab Claws which was really annoying. Overall the food was really good though. One thing I must mention was the music, it was terrible. Elkie Brooks and Abba. They have done a great job doing up the place, the staff were nice, the place is simple but looks good and the food is excellent and decent value for the quality. Sort out the Music, usually I dont even think of Music in a Rest' but when it's that bad it just gets to you.

Went yesterday with 3 friends. It was the first time I had been since it got taken over by Wrights. I had the fish cakes for starters and there were quite nice, followed by the seafood pasta, which a bit too greasy but overall very nice. One of my friends had the battered cod with chips and mushy peas, the cod tasted a bit bland, the chips were hard and the peas werent mushy! My vegetarian friend had the gorgonzola pasta which didnt seem like anything to write home about but in fairness I guess it is a seafood restaurant. And my other friend had one of the daily specials swordfish which was probably the best of the lot. For dessert we shared the rhubarb crumble and the bread and butter pudding, both were superb. What got to me was the service in this place. It constantly felt like we were inconveniencing the wait staff it we asked for a drink or the menu even! we had three different wait staff and there was not a smile out of one of them. We waited a 30-40 mins after the main meal and no sign of a dessert menu or would you like a coffee even! When we went to pay the bill we again waited and waited for them to come with it and then to actually take my friends laser, again it seemed we were being an inconvenience for interrupting them, and it was not the busy even. Its a very cosy restaurant, great for a rainy day, but it just seems like they really need to try a little harder.

Ate here for a family dinner and really enjoyed it. The food was delicious. I had the goats cheese for starter and penne for main. Others went for the swordfish, which was a special that day and thought it was great. The service was great. As it was a birthday, we had brought a cake, which the waitress brought out. Definitely be back here.

I really liked the Anglers Rest - lovely location in the country, great atmosphere for dinner for 2 or to take the whole family and i thought it was great value for money. Eventhough its a seafood restaurant the menu was most appealing for all tastes and the beef burger i had was yummy! The seafood was so fresh also, a delight. I will defo be going back...a cosy table by the open fire is a must for the couples out there looking for romance!!

The restaurant is situated in a lovely scenic area and looks as cosy on the outside as it it on the inside! THe food is absolutely delicious! Between us we had the chowder, ceaser salad, tiger prawns with noodles and the Fishcakes. These dishes were prepared and cooked to perfection and with the food teaming up with a homely, warm atmosphere, I spent a comfortable, relaxing 1hr and 30 minutes here! And the excellent value made it even more comfortable! I'd recommend it strongly! They also have an amazing function room upstairs...Check it out!

The food here is fantastic!!!! Although it is a fish restaurant there are many other dishes for all tastes. The service was efficient but not the friendliest I have come across but the food will having me coming back again and again. We had 3 main courses, 2 desserts, 2 pints, 2 glasses of wine and 2 coffees for €88, brilliant value.

i booked ar for sunday lunch, and i was really looking forward to going.there were five of us.starters were grand ,four soups for the rest and one chowder for me.along came the mains and the disapointment .my husband and my brother ordered the special.,striplion of beef.honestly you wouldnt believe how small the portions were, two skinny slices of beef that looked like rashers lying over a scoop of mash and carrot, but apart from the tiny amount the beef was like leather.my fish pie was just a bowl of the chowder with mash on top.while i was happy just to eat my brother called the waiter down.she seemed quite shocked that they wernt happy with the beef and said somtimes it can come in like that!!! my brother who is a chef remarked that the portions were the size of a hospital dinner and asked was the beef not cooked inhouse, she didnt comment, but did offer another meal so they both had a "cheeseburger".lovely old world pub but these days customers want value for money.i wont be going back!

I went to the AR on Saturday night. They have a nice log fire which is cosy but if you sit too close to it your clothes end up stinking by the end of the night. Menu wasn't very exciting and there wasn't much to choose from on the starters menu. I had mussels to start and they were quite nice. However, i ordered the Anglers rest fish pie which as described as having lovely creamy mash potato. However, what I was served was a disgrace. It came out with full layer of melted butter resting on the top (along with a long black hair). When I cut into the pie. the fish was literally swimming in melted butter and what ever mashed potato was in there had began to separate. Id say there was at least 3 table spoonfuls of liquid butter sitting on top of the fish. Any decent chef would not have let that dish leave the kitchen. The rest of the dishes at the table didn't look anything special and both the cod and the swordfish were quit bland. Our waitress was very good though. I wont be going back and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It ain't cheap either.

A large group of us ate here on Saturday at lunchtime. With the restaurant quite empty we would have expected decent service. The service however was terrible. Having been seated in a part of the restaurant away from the main dining area (God knows why?) we found that we were totally forgotten about and one of us had to go to the main restaurant area and request a member of staff to come and take our order, also to let us know the specials and to request the bill. The only time we saw any staff members who came over to us without being asked was when our food came out. The food was OK, had we not requested to see the specials board we would have been quite limited in our choice of seafood which is strange for a seafood restaurant. Perhaps it was teething problems considering the pleace has just reopened but I won't be returning until I hear some better reports!

A group of us went here after it had been shut for a long time. When I came in the place looked a lot better, its been painted and got new chairs. The place was fairly quiet. Last year I came here I would be lucky to get a seat. Despite its emptiness we were asked for reservations. So if you are going with a group of more than 4 I think you may have to ring in advance. We were seated anyway. The service was quite slow. It was about fifteen minutes before someone came to serve us. The food was nice but for the quality did not match the price, it just tasted bland. We were all disappointed after eating here so many times before. I would not come back again and nor would any of my friends.

I was disappointed overall by Wright's Anglers Rest. Though the place has been brightned up and has a good old pub atmosphere the service is very inconsistent, I felt I was doing them a favour by spending my money there. Returning a dish that was not ordered the waiter gave a grouchy look. The restaurant is coldish and draughty and needs to be warmed up. It was taken as an imposition when I asked them to turn up the heat. It has much potential, some fish dishes were good and if the staff were trained properly in customer service to be welcoming I might come back. PS Parking on the narrow pavement outside forces people onto the road, and into the path of traffic.

I strolled down to the Anglers not so long ago and was pleasantly surprised. I hadn't been there in a few months and wow what a difference. The whole place has had a make over and is great! The Old menu has gone (TG) and been replaced a concise, interesting and tasty menu. The price - reasonable, the staff - very attentive without going over the top! Good atmosphere. It is not often that I write these things, but I felt it was a must. Good luck to the new management team as you are certainly doing a great job!

My first time to The Anglers Rest and I can safely say I'll be back again! It was a cold rainy day and the sight of several open turf fires (the real thing!) made a great first impression. We didn't book a table but they were great and fitted us in as it was busy. The staff really looked after us and service through out the meal was fantastic. But the food was outstanding. I had fish cakes and if you get the opportunity to try them, do! Other dishes that got praise at our table were the chicken liver pate and the mussels not to mention the seafood pasta. The Anglers Rest is a place that I'll be back to again with no hesitation.

I have had occasion to bring clients to the newly renovated restaurant. Service was terrific, ambiance first class and the food delicious. Given it's location at a mid way point between Dublin 15 and South Dublin - it is a perfect location to schedule meetings.

We went to the Anglers last Sunday, the place was really busy. We were greeted very warmly by a friendly and efficient hostess and seated very quickly even though we had no booking. My partner ordered chowder and battered cod, which he said were as good as he had ever eaten. I had Caesar salad and fish pie, which again were both delicious. We had a lovely waitress looking after us, she was friendly and efficient. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely return.

Called in for some Saturday lunch with my partner. New menu was on offer which was not half as good as the last time we were here. Even though the menu was limited the food was quite good but the service was not. The starter i ordered never came. Had to ask for the sauce that should be on the table already and drinks service was slow. At the end asked for plain vanilla ice cream and got a selection of ice-creams. The place was not even busy.

Ate here recently for Sunday lunch. While the food was nice it was nothing special. I had the fish cakes & fish pie & my boyfriend had the seafood chowder and beef (which was a special of the day). The fish pie was exceptionally hot and i had to leave it for a while before i could eat it. The fish cakes were nice but I have tasted much nicer. Its not a restaurant i would be rushing back to.

went there on sat night having previously booked. Food was delicious but the atmosphere lacked something. We were served within an appropriate time but we did notice other groups who came a little later had to wait an unreasonable amount of time for food - one couple just got up and left! I would go back and give it another try as the food was very tasty but none of the staff actually 'spoke' to us in any friendy way so it was like quite impersonal. Howeve I love the 'old world' atmosphere about it so hope it gets its act together.

I went here for a quick bite one evening very recently and it was dreadful. Yes, it´s been done up and it´s very impressive but the menu isn´t as good as it used to, it´s been ´dressed up´ ie more expensive and a lot of the fish dishes are gone. The worst part of my experience was the service. We waited 45 mins for main courses and when we enquired about how much longer we would have to wait we received a very snooty reply from the manager. In the end we walked out and I´ll never go back. The one nice thing about the Anglers Rest was the friendly staff and the reasonable food at very reasonable prices. Both are gone from what I could see. Very disappointing.

Ate there on Sunday evening. It’s been done up recently and looks really nice. Chose the seafood chowder for a starter and it was not a creamy seafood chowder. Nice brown bread was served with the chowder. It was ok but I wouldn’t recommend it again. I chose off the daily specials and had the monkmonk fish. It was very nice, not a big portion but perfect for me. Partner chose the fish cakes as a main course. 2 big fish cakes arrived looking very nice. There was nothing amazing about them. They do a monthly wine special which is a good idea, because it means that they can have a seasonal wine.

A fish-lovers delight!!! My first visit and what a treat it was. Where fish is concerned, my palate is very discerning but I would certainly give this restaurant 101%. Monkfish on Basil Mash with Ratatouille and Fisherman's Pie were both so fresh, so plentiful and SO.O.O.O very tasty. Booked a return visit for two weeks time! Friendly staff, lovely decor and warm atmosphere. Thrilled to have discovered this wonderful place.

Second time here since it opened, a menu with 6 different choices of fish, never mind the seafood and steak, two of us had red snapper, one friend had the sea bass, another had the tuna steak, every dinner was really tasty and interesting, perfectly cooked and the portions were big enough to fill four very hungry people. Desserts were lovely too but we really shouldn't have eaten them. Service was great, was a little over the top last time but I think they've calmed down after been opened a while!

I was really looking forward to the re-opening of the Angler's Rest, I live in the area and places to eat out locally are very limited. I was in a group of eight adults and we all had our food delivered at various stages, the fish and chips looked amazing but was tasteless, dried out and obviously reheated (it arrived about two minutes after being ordered), the burgers were OK although they arrived twenty minutes later. The mussels were half the portion they used to be and served with one heel of brown bread and no butter. I'm not one to complain but I just had to say something about my three-leaf Caesar Salad and it was returned apologetically seconds later with two extra leaves (I actually looked around for the camera). The waiting staff couldn't have been more pleasant but unfortunately the kitchen was a big let down and sadly we left pretty disappointed. We wondered why the place had been so empty at lunchtime on a Sunday and noticed they had a sign on the main road stating that it was "opening soon" and describing the place as thread-bare, no wonder it was quiet! Lots of room to improve on the food quality and quantity!

If you are into seafood a very good place to go. Not much choice if you are not.
