3.0 The Tea Room Restaurant 3.0 star review:
Ate here with my dining club. I found the service awful. It was for the most part unsmiling with the exception of a really pleasant guy who brought me a cranberry juice and a pleasant supervisor who topped up my water. The guy who took our order was toatally unfriendly and unsmiling. Food did come at satisfactory intervals. However tea and coffee did not come for at least a half an hour after desert and only then after one of the group had asked twice for it. Some tables never got any at all. The young guy who brought the tea and coffee was clueless about service randomly leaving down cups without teaspoons. I feel there was an overall lack of proper management presence in the dining room. Foodwise was the only saving grace whilst here. I had a decent size portion of deep fried brie starter followed by a vegetarian gnocchi main. I finished with an apricot tart. The food was excellent. I would have preferred the desert to be hot but this is a personal taste thing. The atmosphere was fine. From a value for money point of view I felt a tad short changed as even though we had drinks included I only had a cranberry juice and for the level of poor service recieved I think the meal was overpriced. On reflection despite great food the dining experience overall was let down by the lack of value for money and the poor service hence I won't be returning here again.

4.5 The Tea Room Restaurant 4.5 star review:
This is the 2nd year in a row that our group of seven picked the Tea Rooms as our Christmas get together venue. We were not disappointed. We had reserved a space for pre-dinner drinks in the Octagon bar the atmosphere was wonderful. Dinner was the set menu three courses, we had the house wine. The value for money was fantastic. We were shown to a round table which is much better if you have a group of ladies that all love to talk. The service was excellent. Looking forward to next year already.

Went here lastnight for a friends birthday, there was about 18 of us. Very small menu to choose from as it was a group booking. 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. I had salmon for starter, a cold lump of salmon in the middle of the plate, a bit tasteless. For main I had lamb and it was awful, very very fatty and chewy, not nice at all. The side dishes which we ordered were nice, mash, fries, salad, green beans. Dessert for me was brulee, disappointing, tiny little dessert, not much taste. A few others had the lamb and theirs was fatty too, but we didn't complain as it was a birthday so didn't want to spoil it. Service was very good. I would not return to this restaurant and would not recommend it. Overpriced and food is not nice at all.

Visited this restaurant yesterday for a family lunch after a graduation at the Four Courts. There was a party of 6 and was chosen because it was an accessible location for my 86 year old grandmother who was with us. When arriving at 1.30 there was noone else in the restaurant just us. When initially looking at the lunch menu it seemed quite limited but we continued to order. A number of the party ordered the duck starter - this arrived on hard bread and was mushed together and was cold like it was just out of the fridge it was ineditable. Also the bread that was put on the table was hard like it had been sitting there overnight and not freshly baked as you would expect from such a venue. We exchanged the starters for the soup and salad. The salad was very basic and just a few leaves with the ingredients seated on top. The soup was ok but seemed very thick. For the mains we had burgers x 3, the fish and chips x 2 and the mushroom pasta dish. We had to send the pasta dish back as it was just like the cheese had just been melted on top of the pasta and was all stringy and the member of the party just ended up having a portion of chips. We had asked for the burgers to be well done but were received pink. The food at the Tea Room really ruined a day that was supposed to be a family celebration. We would have got better food in any gastro type pub. The staff were friendly and tried to help but obviously it wasnt their fault and the issue was in the kitchen. Definately not what you would expect in a four star hotel.

Excellent value 2 course lunch for €12+ or 3 for €15+. Starters of smokies and Caesar salad were absolutely fab, soup of the day potato & leek was fine but not very tasty and required lots of seasoning. My main of chicken breast and risotto could not be faulted, delicious as was the special fish pie. The only disappointment was the fries - described as hand cut, but that was not what was served up. Tried the brownie to finish off the average meal, it was ok, But that could be a preference taste, for me this brownie was a little too dry and hard - I prefer it moist, more 'chocolatie' tasting and a few nuts. The service was good. We finished off our evening with a few cocktails in the fab cocktail bar. They are really good, and from 5 - 7 they are €5 so overall not a bad day out

Went for lunch here one day and was delighted with the fantastic quality and service for the price. At €12 for 2 courses, I wasn't expecting much but they really outdid themselves. Beautiful chicken caesar salad to start, the O/H had soup which he declared to be very tasty. I had the goatscheese tartlet for main which was again wonderful, very light and tasty. He had the steak sandwich, which despite the bread being a little tough, was a winner. Service was attentive, if not quite friendly. I wouldn't find fault with that though, the style of the place lends itself to a more professional manner. Will be back.

Went for late lunch with 7 work colleagures. Excellent value 2 course lunch for €12+ or 3 for €15+. Starters of smokies and Caesar salad were absolutely fab, soup of hte day potatoe & leek was fine but not very tasty and required lots of sesaoning. The soda bread served with was delicious and jsut out of hte oven My main of chicken breast and risotto could not be faulted, delicious as was the special fish pie. The only disappointment was the fries - described as hand cut, but that was not what was served up. Tried the brownie to finish off the fab meal, it was ok, But that could be a preference taste, for me this brownie was a little too dry and hard - I prefer it moist, more 'chocolatie' tasting and a few nuts please. The service was really excellent and we had a very pleasurable experience overall. We finished off our early evening with a few cocktails in the fab cocktail bar. They are really good, and from 5 - 7 they are €5 - and they do put alcohol in them!!! One slight complaint in the restaurant, the airconditioning was quite blowy and cold - but everything else lead to a really enjoyable late afternoon treat.

Went here for afternoon tea, asked for the latest booking (4.45). When we arrived they actually advised us to sit in the Lounge rather than the restaurant itself. This turned out to be a much better option, more comfortable. The background music was soothing and it wasn't busy so it was very relaxing. When the food arrived there were a few issues - the coffee was not as hot as I would have liked but a good strong blend. Some of the sandwiches were made on slightly stale bread (the end of the day obviously). The brown bread with smoked salmon was great; the scones were lovely, the brownie and apple cake delicious. Best thing about this was the service by far. Every member of staff was extremely courteous without being overbearing. Will definitely go back here to try out their main menu and some of the cocktails!

I had the crab for starters, which had a layer of what looked like lard ontop. There was 2 slices of carrot as a side salad. I had the sea bass for my main course which was under cooked and full of bones. It came served on beans which tasted more like baked beans. I expected better quality food for the price we paid. The service is good but the food is not up to much at all
