Things did not bode well for us when we were handed laminated sheets of paper as menus, but we plowed on anyway, willing to give it a go. It won't be something I'll be doing again in a hurry! Found the fish soggy with grease, almost inedible, and had to send the chips back to be cooked properly. The only saving grace was the poor waitress, Very busy and harrassed looking, she was extremely apologetic and quick with fresh chips. Just being in Temple Bar does not justify serving what barely qualifies as pub grub at these prices

Went here over the weekend with a Citydeal voucher. I had eaten here a long time ago on a group night out and the food was great however this time I was a little disappointed. The portions sizes are big but the food is lacking the gastro pub standard. Starters were fine. I had the fish 'n' chips for mains which consisted off a plate full of frozen chips and well over cooked fish. The service was good considering there only appeared to be one waitress looking after all of the tables. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon!

I went here with a Citydeal voucher last Sunday. The pub is quite grubby. The menu is limited - everything appeared to have been frozen and then deep fried. We were really disappointed with the food. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and will never return. The only thing the place it had going for it was the service!

Came here with the citideal voucher. 2 courses and a drink for 12,50. Very cheap. But would not return even if I had another one of these vouchers. Although service was quite friendly, food was just not nice. Had the mussels, that were definately not fresh. I couldn't get them out of their shell in one piece, they just got torn into rubbery bands. I only tried a few and then decided to leave it, as they just didn't taste nice at all. Fishpie was so extremely salty, almost inedible. May be I just ordered the wrong items, but I am usually not a very picky eater and hardly ever not finish what is put in front of me. Apart from that, we left the place smelling like a chipper as we were seated close to the kitchen, we constantly sat in fryingpan fumes. I know this is a pub, and you can't expect haute cuisine. But looking at the prices on the menu it is a lot more expensive than theusual pubgrub.

My wife and I ate here on night before Patricks Day: Admittedly it was on a city deal offer (which worked out cheaper than paying the full amount from the menu), but that was no excuse for the sorry standard of food that was put in front of us. I ordered sea food chowder - which wasnt to bad (although it was a quite runny consistency for a chowder - and could have been mass cooked in advance and inturn just microwaved). My wife went for Prawn pil pil - which we have had on a number of occasions while in Spain/Portugal. What came out was nothing like this dish: It was a bowl of luke warm mussels with 3 animec looking prawns and a couple of processed crab sticks (cut in half). For a start this dish should be sizzling in garlic/oil. What she received was dry, and very suspicious looking - taking into account the vast amount of (fresh??) mussels. When the waitress appeared to remove the plates we pointed this out: There was no offer of apoligy or offer to select something else. For the main; i ordered chicken wrapped in parma ham (with a wine jus). My wife ordered the fish and chunky chips: The chicken arrived without any ham: I managed finally to get the attention of the waitress - and pointed this out: She wandered off to the kitchen and duly returned advising me that the chef "had run out of ham". The chicken wasn't great, and the jus - could very well have been a smothering of bisto gravy with a drop of red wine to add some flavour!! Extremely poor standard. My wife indicated that the fish wasnt what you would expect for €15 - and also could have been cooked in the oven striaght out of a frozen packet. It also came with mushy peas - which left a lot to be desired. The only saving grace were the chunky chips. After the intial remark about the missing ham, the waitress did reappear and offered us a complimentary drink each. Please avoid this bar at all costs - if you plan on eating from (the limited) menu. I'm a bloke...and the toilets are disgusting!

Went three times, all had good live music and band. Very pleasant place to hang out with friends there. The food was good too. Just wish they had more healthy choices on the menu. The service were very slow, and the toilets are kinda disgusting.

Went here in a group of four quite early on a Friday evening. It was still very quite when we ordered, but it took our starters 45 minutes to arrive. And one of them, the mussels, was cold! We also weren't given knives or forks until we asked for them. The other starters, crab claws and prawn pil pil were quite good. There was another very long gap between our starter and main, and again they brought the food to the table before the cutlery. However, the seafood skillet, fish pie and fish and chips were all very tasty, in particular I really enjoyed my fish and chips. The steak was a little tough and overcooked, and they forgot to bring out the pepper sauce. When we asked for it, the waiter returned with a little pot of what i would have to call gravy, with some peppercorns floating on the top. It was not like any pepper sauce I had had before. The wait staff were friendly enough but didn't seem to have had much training, and it was hard to get their attention. As this is a "pub grub" spot perhaps we were just expecting too much of them? I had a voucher for this place, and could not fault any of the food i personally received or the value for money. The atmosphere and band playing later were also very good. On a similar offer to what we had (two courses and a drink for two people, 24 euro) I would definitely return. My boyfriend, who got the cold mussels, tough steak, and strange gravy, would not.

One of the chefs was sick. I booked the table that day and was not advised of this. The remaining chef was expected to provide the catering for the 15 or so tables that were seated. Unfortunately the starter took 1.5 hours to arrive and the mains arrived a little over 2 hours after we ordered. We were not told of the problem in the kitchen until we had been waiting for 1.25 hours, we would have left if we had been told earlier and returned at a later date as I had a voucher to use. The food was mediocre and little cold. I liked the Purty Kitchen decor but the atmosphere was unfortunate due to the numbers of tables waiting extreme lengths of time to eat and the extremely loud band which wasn't needed to be so loud as there wasn't enough people in the bar. I could go on about sticky tables and the flat coke in our drinks but I think it is evident that the night was a complete disaster. The only saving point being the absolutely excellent waitress who ended up serving us after our initial waitress disappeared. Poor management is the main reason why the evening was ruined. There's so many chefs out of work presently, they could have found someone to give the poor chef a hand.

Bit disappointing, only because I checked out menupages before going and my mouth was watering at the menu, potatoe skins and chowder! Yum! But when we got there the only menu available was a seriously reduced one! I asked the waitress was it the only menu and alas she said yes! What we ordered was very tasty pub grub, but unfortunately not what I was hoping for! Atmosphere was dark and moody, with a seriously loud jazz band playing, great if that's what you're into! I'd just come from a stressful days work, so not really for me! Not that I mentioned that to anyone, the band had some serious groupies that looked like they'd lynch any protesters, all in all, tasty pub food, but not the menu you would expect from looking at their listing on menupages!

For what it is this place is great, its really good value for money for both food and drink (€3 pints in the middle of temple bar are not easy to find) the atmosphere is great at the weekends and the staff are friendly, the chicken wings are definitely worth trying.

Went here for a quick lunch with one of my friends. We both ordered the chicken sandwich but asked for chips on the side rather then salad. We were very impressed when we saw we werent charged extra for this like you wold in most places. The food was outstanding. Chicken was so tender and fresh. The price was great too, €6.95 for that is unbeatable. So happy we tried here an always have a place to go for a quick bite. Will be back to try for dinner sometime. Staff were lovely too. Great all round place.

went there for a match and ordered the chicken plattter, which was lovely. The chicken was beautiful, very flavourful, and the stuffing was delicious. it came with a lovely rocket salad. I also ordered a side of chips, which were really nice. Overall, I was very impressed with the food, as it was something I would expect from a good restaurant, not a pub. By far the nicest pub food I have found in Dublin. I also thought there was a great atmosphere for the match. The only downside was really slow service, I think the bartender and servers thought they were on holiday,,,but applause to the chef for making up for it with fab food!

A Nice place to go for some decent food. The atmosphere in here was lovely when we went for lunch with friends. The service wasn't the best (a little bit slow to be honest because it didn't really look that busy) The food was lovely! I had the steak sandwich while my boyfriend got the platter, our friends ordered club sandwiches and fries. The food was lovely....and you cannot argue with the value...what you get for the price you pay is brilliant. Would definitely go back...theycould do with working on the service a bit though!

I can't believe how this restaurant will continue to keep going. Eight of us booked for the 9pm sitting (we had come from the Leinster match) so were cold and hungry. It started badly, there was an air duct over the table we were allocated with very cold air coming in, causing a draft. We asked for the duct to be either turned off or sealed but were told it was not possible, resulting in one of our members having to sit with his coat on all through the meal. The meal - six of us ordered the mixed platter starter. About 5 minutes later we were told that the platters were off. We could not believe it. I can understand that they may not have some of the mixed platter items but no platters at all? With the result nobody had a starter (which is a loss of about €100 to the Purty) Amazing. When the main course arrived, we ordered house wine, it took nearly 10 minutes for the wine to arrive, needless to say most of us had finished our food by then. It was our mistake, we should have ordered before the food came, we just didn't expect the wine to take so long to arrive. We did complain to the manager about the slow service, no starters and the cold air and he did give us the bottle of wine on the house. With so much good competition in the Monkstown area, the Purty will need to get their act together. We will not be back.

Have been here before on three occasions. Had fish and chips on the first visit. I have had better Donegal Catch. On the second occasion I had the Fish Broth and it was great (which is now taken from the menu). Third time I had the chowder and again it was good. So when it was up to me to recommend a place for a work lunch, I said The Purty Kitchen. It was shameful. The food was terrible, cold, tasteless, and even the Seafood Chowder had bacon in it (which I recommended to one of my colleagues who is a vegetarian). Not one out of eight of us was remotely satisfied

Went there with a few friends a few weeks ago and was not very impressed. My fish and chips was very nice, but two of my friends ordered different curries and they both said it was extremely bland and flavourless! It's not the most inviting place to have a beer either and they really didn't use their space well. The one good thing is the live music. Not going back anytime soon.

It was a difficult brief to fit. The boys wouldn't eat somewhere without a large screen for the football and the girls didn't want to eat awful food. After trawling around for half an hour we happened upon the Purty Kitchen. Although the food in Dun laoghaire is of much higher quality, everyone was happy enough. We shared a big plate of nachos and had steak, fish and chips, club sambo and portobello burger. There were no healthy options...lots of grease all round but the price was reasonable. There was a very annoying leak right beside our table but the staff were very nice and around four of them told us a plumber was on his way. There were some very noisy Romanian supporters screaming the roof off but, quiet and candlelit? - that wasn't the brief.

I had heard good things about Purty Kitchen in Dun Laoighre so I decided to give their Temple Bar venue a go. I wish I didn't now! I had the Surf n' Turf, the prawns (all 3 of them!!!) were tasty but the steak was terrible and over cooked (I asked for medium rare it came out well done) Another gripe I had was that was that we were waiting nearly half an hour to have our order taken and nearly an hour for the meals to arrive after that! They did give us home made bread while we waited but it wasn't baked right through. Tiny portions and large prices. Plus the band that were playing were terrible!!! Bring back Bad Bobs!

Went here for our work Christmas lunch - large group of 45, which required wheelchair access, so we reckoned it was ideal. Menu looked good, if a little "fancy", but was quite pricey at €51 a head. We had the entire upper floor which was grand, but it was obvious they had decided to cash in on the Christmas party season - fold up chairs etc. Sparkling wine reception was fine, starters weren't. Ordered venison terrine, got what looked like spam from a can on a slice of brown bread. Dreadful. And we were waiting about 40 mins for it. Coworker got mussels in cider which were on the cold side - not a good sign. And not much cider. Main course followed about half an hour later in parts. Portions were very small, but Wicklow lamb was tasty and mash wasn't bad either. No other vegetables were provided, despite being included in the price until we asked. And we asked several times, much to the annoyance of the staff. And when they did arrive, we had all finished our main course. And baby potatoes reheated in the microwave don't count as vegetables at €51 a head. Other mains weren't great either according to my colleagues. Desserts arrived about 30 mins later - we'd been here about 2 hours at this stage. Pear and cranberry tart - fruit was not cooked enough, and the puff/filo pastry was heated in the microwave and was inedible. But the final touch was priceless - tea was served about 20 mins later. Teabags were placed in the individual cups and left there while the water was added, and cups were then given out. Leaving us to put the teabags on the saucer.. Classy. Staff were not very pleasant with the exception of one waitress who was. Do not book this place for a group/Christmas/work do - overpriced, very bad value for money, and generally poor service. Kitchen and staffed not trained or equipped to deal with large numbers, and the quality of food left a lot to be desired, at any price. A very poor Christmas lunch.

Wasn't too impressed with the staff here! The food was lovely, great place for a bit of pub grub, and very reasonable, but there were stones in the spinach (and not just mine either). Inedible! I complained to the waitress, who didn't take the complaint seriously at all, and came back to tell me it was garlic. Garlic (soft) vs Stones (gritty and hard). I've been eating garlic for years now, think I would have recognised it! The chicken was lovely and the chips and roasted vege yum. The wine by the glass list was great, the shiraz went down well.

Thought this place was great. Went in midweek with the work crowd, it's the type of place you visit for a meal and just one drink, but end up leaving the car to stay and enjoy the atmosphere! Had a great night, would highly recommend the place. It has certainly enticed me back into Temple Bar, a place that I thought was reserved for tourists. The food was great. I had the prawns pil pil, and would also give the artichoke dip the thumbs up. Service was good, but not great, but all in all I would highly recommend the Purty Kitchen!

This is glorified bar-food, but this is reflected in the price. Went for lunch with the office team and we all availed of the lunch menu - 3 courses for €10 - although your cup of tea is one of the three. My colleagues reported that the chicken burger was very dry. My mushroom burger was tasty and filling, though it was a bit light on the mushrooms. 'Twas a grand cup of tea though.

My friends and I were there last night for drinks and dinner. The menu is good and sounds delish. The staff were great and friendly but the food wasn't. My friend got the crab cake starter which was too salty and bland. I got the chicken ciabatta which was tasteless. Then the band came on and our conversation ended. We couldn't hear ourselves think. We were disappointed with the place.

The fish soup was to die for! Perfect consistency, beautiful flavour, not an overpowering fish flavour, and a great variety of seafood cooked to perfection. The Purty Kitchen just keeps improving in leaps & bounds.

Has a long, long way to go in terms of food, could be a little gem in Temple Bar if they raise their game in terms of the freshness and quality of their ingredients. It's a great menu on paper but what you get is a let down, stale bread, suspect seafood and a portion of 9 of the scabbiest looking crab claws you've ever seen for 13 euro. The service was excellent though, very friendly.

Four of us dined here on Saturday night, for pub grub the food is outstanding. The Purty is trying to be everything (restaurant, pub, music venue & night club upstairs) in my opinion it fails, it should be one or the other. There was a one man band performing (who was very good) but because of the noise level you could not talk to your friends, you had to shout to be heard. Back to the food, I ordered chicken liver pate and a medium fillet steak; the steak was cooked to perfection. My friends enjoyed what they ordered. This is not a venue for an intimate dinner, go in a group for the music and beer or the food when there is no one playing music and if you have the energy and money finish off with the night club.

We ate here at the weekend and it was very nice, the restaurant is on the ground floor bar level and there was live music on the night which was very good but not the place to go if you fancy a chat. The food was very nice and tasty, spicy crab cakes and calamari both went down very well as did the steak and tacklebox. The paella was not as popular and the portion was quite small for a main course.

Recently 4 of us came here for dinner on a Saturday night for 8pm sitting. 2had the calamari for starters, one had the fish cakes and one the fish pate. All were so tasty& they came out real quick. For mains we had 1 surf & turf, 1Barbary duck, 2 Prawn & Cray fish pil pil (sizzling dish), these were all served with potatoes or chips, but we ordered baby boiled potatoes for the table, again these were really good portion size and well presented. We had a bottle of house wine, the bill was reasonable and we left a respectable tip. We will certainly go back. There was live music on the night we were there.

This has to be one the best bars that serves restaurant quality food in the city centre, if not in the whole city. 4 of us went and we spent most of the meal, tasting each others food. It was early on Friday but we ended up staying there for the live music later and then even more drinks. This place really sucks you in can tell you. The goats cheese was sublime, and as for the divine chowder..well! Lots of great mains, I had a bite of my pals burger and reckons its the best burger he has ever had!! I love when chefs get the duck right.. This was melt in the mouth stuff.. Crispy on the outside, and pink in the middle, the way duck should be but so rarely isn’t. The staff are well cool I have to say.. We had a south African (I think) waitress who knew here stuff and was a good laugh to be honest. Its a very mixed crowd of course being in temple bar, but I have to say it certainly isn’t the usual temple bar prices, our bill for 4 mains and four starters, a bottle of red, and a few drinks and coffees came in at under €150.00. We couldn’t really believe.... we’ve been back twice since bringing in new people to share this new hidden gem!! Bravo we say!! Bravo!!

Found the Purty Kitchen whilst trying to get out of the rain, the smell of seafood as I walked in made me instantly hungry. Started with the home made soup which was divine, chose the surf and turf for my main, the beef was cooked to perfection as well as the juicy bbq prawns yummy, cant wait to go back.

I went for the Early Bird Menu at The Purty Kitchen last Tuesday. Arriving at 6pm and the place was empty. I had the calamari and fish and chips and it was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had the prawn cocktail and crab claws. Both were great also. While I found it to be lacking in atmosphere the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend The Purty Kitchen.
