I was here with a few friends I like the Porterhouse in Temple Bar for a few drinks. I was here for food at Christmas and wasnt impressed with the burger but I was hungry and said I would this the food the benefit of the doubt this time. The service was a little slow and the orders were wrong one of my friends got a half Caesar Salad instead of a full and another girl got a wrong drink, I ordered the Porterhouse Pie but they didnt have any so I went with the pasta instead. It was just ok for €11 I would have expected more flavour, the chicken was bland and bacon fatty with a watery cream pasta sauce. I just ate the pasta, some bacon and the mushrooms. I like Porterhouse for the night as the beers are good but wouldnt rush back for the food.

I stopped into the Porterhouse for a late lunch, to sample their Oktoberfest. I had Bratkartoffeln, a tub of roast potatoes, bacon and grilled onion, and a Bratwurst. Whilst filling, these weren't as tasty as what I'm used to from the Porterhouse. The Bratkartoffeln was quite bland, the bacon being overdone and the potatoes under-seasoned. My Bratwurst could have done with more, or stronger, mustard. As I was finished work, and on my way home, I had an Hersbruker Oktoberfest seasonal beer, brewed by the Porterhouse Brewing Company, and this was excellent.

I brought my parents here while they were in town on a week visit. They don't drink, but I insisted that we could go here - with lively music, over 200 different beers on tap and good food they surely could find something of interest. Despite their protests about going to a "pub", they had a great time, enjoyed both the food (the ham sandwich and soup is enormous) for the value - you don't go away hungry - that's for certain. I even managed to get them to try a few of the beers on tap, with their favourite being the locally brewed strawberry beer.

I had 2 friends visiting from overseas and they wanted good Irish pub food so we came here and we weren't disappointed! We had 3 mains and one dessert and all the dishes were very tasty, we all cleaned our plates. We sampled some of the fruit beers and some of their own brewed beers and all of them were very good, especially the fruit beers. There was a great atmosphere in the pub and the service was very good. We got seats at the window so we had prime viewing of both the pub and outside. I would definitely recommend!

This is the original Porterhouse, there is an amazing array of beers on offer and the pub menu is pretty comprehensive. A lot of what is on offer is modern but traditional Irish cuisine!!! Good portabello mushroom burger and chunky chips.

For pub grub it's not a bad spot. Staff are very friendly, slightly pricey but a good spot for a 'quick fix'. Pub wise, great athmosphere. Yeah, would recommend it!!

Had a burger and chips here before the Spain Paraguay match. Decent burger for a hungry man. Not the best pub grub in town but no where near the worst. Also serves aspall cider which imo is one of the best traditional english ciders Not the best layout as most seats have no fews of TV

One of my favourite food serving pubs in the city centre, with a huge choice of beer, good music and atmosphere. Usually very busy so my friends and me ended up eating at the bar, which didn't bother us much. Food is exactly what it says on the menu. Good spot and I recommend it to beer lovers.

Do not get the platter in here. For 24 Euro it was terrible. Have you ever seen ribs deep fat fried? Get this platter and you will, which in turn leaves them dry and horrible tasting. The garlic bread should not be called garlic bread, it was just bread with butter. The chicken wings were not wings, horrible shaped things that didn't taste great either. I don't eat sausages so I can't comment personally, except to say that the people eating them weren't the best. The onion rings were the best on the platter and they weren't the best either. And the chips were just greasy. I will never get a platter in here again. I'm not sure I will even return to this pub as my friends glass had lipstick on it. We tried to complain to the staff but I'm not sure if they even understood us because they certainly didn't do anything about it. In my opinion these platters are left there, reheated and given to people who have had a few too many drinks and think the food is ok. Far from it. And I will not be recommending this pub or its grub to anyone. Tourists must come for the selection of alcohol, certainly not the food.

Had a quick bite to eat while out with a group of friends for a birthday and valentines day combined! Nice casual atmosphere where some people ate and others didn't. Just had some side orders which were hot and tasty. However not homemade. Friendly service. Live music was a bonus. Had previously eaten here a number of times a few years ago, food still same standard.

Had lunch here with my husband and 29month old son. The staff were friednly and very very child friendly which makes a refreshing change!! We ordered the fish and chips, "pint" of prawns and side salad and asked if we could have a small portion of fish finger sandwich for our son....not a problem!! The fish and chips was gorgeous, served with a lovely side salad and minted mushy peas. My pint of prawns was very mean...more a pint of lettece topped with a few tiger prawns, at 9.90 very expensive and not worth it at all. The chef did a special small portion of the fish finger sandwich, which was very generous. With a pint and glass of Porter plain the bill came to 43euro....they charged 8 euro for a side sald, which I consider extortion!!! All in all however, the staff are very friendly helpful and welcome children which is great. The food was lovely but expensive for what we got, nonetheless we will return!!

I have liked the atmosphere in the Porterhouse pubs day or night. Their burgers are good with a varied mix of fillings. A note to everyone the Italian burger, they have on their menu Roquette, this is not the cheese which I mistook it for and got the green salad leaves. Pretty disappointed but next time I will know.I only have ever really seen the salad leaves spelt Rocket. Will return and get something else next time.

Went here with a few friends for after work drinks and food. The decor is nice, if a bit touristy, and it is very handy if you are having a casual gathering and want to have a full drinks menu with the option of food. The food was fine and big portions. The service on the other hand was not good. I had booked a table but they had no record of the booking. Some food was missing and we had to ask 3 times for it to be delivered. It was very hard to get attention for drinks, the bill etc. Overall it is a nice pub with food as an add on but the service would need to improve for it to be at restaurant standard.

Love it, love it, love it! We're fairly regular patrons. Generally on Saturday for lunch or Sunday afternoon pints. Great bar food, beer selection for the man in my life it a great treat. The fact that they have a selection of ales makes his day. Can get a little bit noisy in the evenings, but afternoons are usually lovely. I like the fact that there are 'regulars' and tourists alike. Always a bit of banter with the bar staff. Floor staff are usually very attentive. Toilets can be a teeny bit smelly, but if you can overcome that, everything else is excellent.

This is a review update with my last experience in the Porterhouse, a couple of months ago, being my first bad one. Have to say it seems like last time was a once off. Arrived at about 6pm with two friends for some food and the (in my opinion) best beer in the country. I had the mussels with a Galway Hooker which was a perfect combination. Usually the place is rammed, so arrive early if you want to eat.

The right place for a leaving doe and a bit to eat. We had chicken breast burgers with chunky chips which was great. Served just the way you may expect. Obviously accompanied by plentiful of pints that's not guinness. Something needs to be done about the staff though, hopefully the management will invest in a hospitality training for the waitress.

Popped in on a sunny Tuesday afternoon as a visiting friend was looking for "irish" food in an "irish" pub. She ended up having a smokey burger and loving it however I had the gammon steak with poached eggs and roast potatoes. It was ok. There was something in the taste that I didn't like. I'm quite fussy and I'm not sure what the flavour was but it did somewhat over power the food. That said, it was a good solid meal at a really excellent price. There can't be that many places in the city centre where you can get that much food for under €10. Atmosphere-wise - it was very sunny and the Porterhouse doesn't have an outside area nor is it open like some pubs as it would open onto a busy road... so it was relatively quiet but the music was decent and the staff were very friendly and accomodating, even of a late order change on a main course. All in all, I would go back but I would pick a different dish.

Went in for early burger with friend. It was quite nice and the chips were good. The portion was reasonable. All bog standard really. There was no atmosphere at all and what service there was, was for the most part unsmiling if not downright sullen. Have been reminded of why I didn't want to go back. Won't happen again.

I go to the porterhouse quite often for lunch and the food is usually good though a bit pricey. Stick to the beef burgers though, I had the vegetarian mushroom burger today which was horrible and served with cold chips. Disappointing as their burgers are usually well worth a visit.

WONT BE BACK.....I went here with my boyfriend on Saturday, we had some food which was okay, but I dont think I'll be returning to the Porterhouse any time soon. I ordered a large glass of white wine and to my astonishment it was €7.50, I'm pretty sure the bottle only cost about €5. In the present climate, (actually under any circumstances) this is a complete rip off. I would have gone here on occasion but as I said before, this has put me right off the place! Unless they decide to stop ripping people off, I wont be back

I drink in the porterhouse on quite a regular basis and have always enjoyed the huge selection of beer on offer. My favourite time of day to drop in would be lunchtime til early evening, when it fills up with the after work crowd and you'd have a better chance of winning the lotto than getting a seat. I have also eaten here many times and have never been disappointed so far. I would recommend the fish and chips, any of the burgers or my personal favourite, the Beef 'n' stout pie. There is also a nice lunch menu before 3 with a great pastrami sandwich. For drinks I'd recommend the Porterhouse Plain, a fair match for Guiness any day!

We ate here out of convenience more than being tempted by the menu. This is a great lively pub on three/four floors with house brewed beers and sometimes live music. The food is not exactly pub grub but its pretty generic. Having said that the salads satisfied so I have no complaints. The staff are a bit hectic, that might have something to do with the four floors they have to run up and down.

This is my local pub and I will really miss the unusual beer when I leave Dublin. The Templebrau is excellent and I would have an Oyster Stout over a Guinness any day. The food is good pub grub - shame they don't have the pizza oven in here as they do in Bray and Glasnevin or I'd be in all the time! The steak sandwich is great value and well worth a try.

If you're looking for a different type of pint from the norm, then this is a good place to start. Their own beers are the best thing they have going, try their Weiss beer. Food wise, it is your average pub evening dinner, nothing spectacular, what you expect from a place in temple bar catering to the needs of the tourist industry. Nice atmosphere, good mix of local people and plenty of visitors trying new drinks. Overall for an easy going evening and night out well recommended.

I have been in the Porterhouse many times and just love it. It always suits to everybody's tastes food wise and drink wise. I really liked the tomato bruschetta as starter (beautiful!!!) and then the lamb steak. Good point is that for any steaks or burgers you have the choice between chunky chips, spuds or mash to adjust your taste. Any way that concludes to perfect food and reasonable price. Enjoy this with a refreshing classic mojito on a Thursday night (they do that drink for a cheaper price). Good live music all week long and great bar staff.

Yummy burger for a reasonable price. The stouts are excellent. Just don't expect restaurant service because you won't get it! They are as grumpy and hurried as any floor staff in a pub, only they serve food as well. Oh, and the chunky chips are top notch.

One of my favourite places to go and grab a bite to eat and have a good beer at the same time. The service gets a bit shoddy when they get busy and i dont like that you have to pay before your food is served bt other than that it gets a big thumbs up from me. Try the purple people eater!!

Went for a few drinks here for my flatmate's birthday and we ended ordering some food, as the menu looked appetising and we really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Yes it's pub grub, but accompanied by draught beer it's an altogether amazing experience.

I can't rave enough about the portobello mushroom burger. It's so nice to get something vegetarian that has had a little bit of imagination put into it. Usually we just get regular veggie burgers or a pasta dish. Chunky chips are just what you'd expect and compliment the lashings of mustard and dressing perfectly. Can't wait to go back.

Dropped in here with hubbie and kids on Sunday with the sole purpose of feeding kids and watering ourselves. Kids had chunky chips, which were so delightful, we felt obliged to sample a few. Hubbie and I decided to go for the sample tray of lager, which is basically 3 small lagers for a fiver, thought it was a great idea. The beer tasted so pure, you could definitely feel the lack of chemicals. We will be back.

Last night I went to Porterhouse in Temple Bar with 5 friends. The purpose of this visit was to bring a visiting friend from America to a great Irish bar Unfortunately the visit left my feelings on the Porterhouse very tainted. Firstly it took us half an hour to get any sort of attention from a waitress to order. No one approached as we sat at a table to ask if we wanted to order drinks or anything so we sat there for about 30 minutes trying to get someone over and several times felt like we were blanked. Then when we did order a friend enquired as to what was in one of the day’s specials- a tuna steak salad. The answer he got was “it is a salad” No details on what it contained, dressing on it etc. We placed our order to a waitress who really could not have been any less friendly. Then moments after placing our order we were presented with a bill and asked to pay it. When we asked if we could pay later we were told we could not unless we wanted to give a credit card behind the bar. When we asked why it had to be paid so promptly we were told that it is because people leave without paying and the waitress would have to pay for it herself then. So reluctantly we paid the bill. Then the waitress had the nerve to ask us if we wanted to tip now or later. Then when our meals did arrive two of our party had ordered a chicken and bacon pasta. The smallest-appetizer like sized portion arrived (and it was priced at €12 so we expected something a bit more substantial) with no trace of bacon. When we finally managed to get a waitress over she just tried to pass blame onto whoever served us. Another 5 minutes later she arrived back with a bowl of bacon for them to share- at this stage the pasta had gone cold. This service is completely disgraceful. Never in any restaurant or pub have I had to pay for food before it arrives. It left our visiting friend with a very bad impression of Irish service and hospitality.

Look, it's pub grub. But it's good pub grub! Watched the several of the Euro 2008 matches here and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the burgers! Well actually I always get the mushroom burger. Excellent chips!

I visited the Porter House with my son last Thursday as it is our favourite place to eat in town in recent times. I ordered my usual large glass of Italian wine which was yummy, my son had a strawberry beer - it was delicious. The food has always been fab. but we were very disappointed with the portion size. I always order a warm chicken salad, I was shocked to see how small the portion was when it arrived at our table. I am usually very full after my meal but had loads of room left for dessert. The charge didn't reflect the size of portion, I was very disappointed.

It's a pity the way they have increased their prices at lunch time. Still, the chicken wings are the best in town and their beef stew with a pint of red is a superb combination. Porterhouse is still a good place to eat from time to time but, for being a pub, is getting too pricey.

Yum Yum Yum! Love this pub food - it's really hearty. Go for the warm chicken salad. Always served quick as a flash and with a smile. The food is very reasonably priced and never a disappointment. My other half likes the stew. Also, the chicken wings are great with an unusual beer!

Brought two Americans here as they were keen to have burgers as they hadn't had one for over a week! I had the porterhouse burger, and a few pints of their own red ale (can't recall the name). The beer was a bit flat; the chips weren't hot, and a bit soggy. The burger was a whopper, and quite tasty burger but it would have benefited from a warm toasted bun. The service was funny, my American colleagues were treating me and they expected to run a tab in a bar until there were done. The waitress, who gave good service otherwise, came with the first drinks bill and just kind of stood there for a while as they ignored her, and then slipped the bill on the table and walked off. Then she went off shift around nine and never came to collect for this, she also left without engineering a situation where we could give her a tip, but she was Swedish, maybe they don't there.

Ate here on a Saturday evening just before Xmas. Food was ok, I had the burger and my wife had a chicken pie. Service was awful. We ordered drinks before our meal which didn't arrive until half way through our meal. Then before we were near finished our meal the waitress came over and asked to be paid! I had to stop eating and count out money for her. I was disgusted. Then a live band started up beside us so we upped and left. Food was ok and this place would do for a quick bite and a pint when in town. No more.

The Porterhouse used to be one of my favourite pubs in Dublin, but I'm not so sure now. The quality of the food has gotten very poor and I notice that the salads in particular are getting much smaller. On top of all this, the prices are going up and I can't stand that "diddly-aye" music that gets blared out to attract tourists. I had a byte to eat here recently with my girlfriend - I ordered a classic chicken burger and she had the Moroccan vegetable tagine. Our food arrived about 5 minutes after we ordered - never a good sign! The tagine was dry and bland and the chicken was like leather on the outside - it had obviously been sitting out for a while. Having said all that, they still have probably the best beer in Dublin, which is still reasonably priced - but steer clear of the food!

I've brought friends from abroad here a number of times and it's always a popular choice. The food is excellent and much more than you'd expect from pub grub. I'm not a big beer fan but even I like to try some of the more exotic beers and there is a good selection of cocktails. The problem here is seating. Often a big group of us end up squeezed around a table for two and a few times we've just given up and gone elsewhere. Don't mind standing with a drink in my hand but it gets a bit awkward when you're trying to balance a bowl of chips in one hand and a plate of food in the other. Maybe they could introduce a dedicated restaurant area? The quality of the food would definitely merit it.

The Porterhouse has always been our favourite bar in dublin for both food and drink. We go there quite regularly as my fiance loves their self brewed beer and they have quite nice wine also. Their bar food in the past was always amazing. Recently however things have changed. Recently a group of myself and friends headed out to stay in the Porterhouse Hotel in Bray and the food was just ok but not the usual quality we would expect from the Porterhouse. So then this week when myself and my fiance were in town we decided to go to The Portherhouse and have a drink and while there we decided to have some food. The menu was similar to Bray but we ordered anyway. The food was far from good. The portions have shrunk dramatically. My "main course" salad was more like a side salad, my fiance got very few chips with his burger (9 in total we counted as we were curious there were so few) and his salad had no dressing at all. We also ordered some bread which at 3.50 was very steep. Gone is our favourite starter of bread and houmous which we used to enjoy alot. This bar will remain our favourite due to its lovely drink and lovely atmosphere but food wise we are very disappointed and I can't see us eating there again any time soon as we have been very disappointed.

Very good, posh pub grub. We had burgers and they come with a side of chips – very filling! Good vegetarian choices and the salad menu sounds wonderful! The Porterhouse on Parliament Street is the nicest one of the lot, but a very touristy place and it's difficult to get a seat here, every night of the week.

I only ate here once and even though I like this place for a few drinks, I will not be going here for food again. I love the Porterhouse North and both the service and the food quality in this branch did not live up to my expectations.

This place has a great, dependable reputation. Sometimes I get sick of the mass-produced, heavily marketed, chemical waste that gets traded as beer. That's when I'm at my happiest in the Porterhouse. I've yet to try the other Porterhouses, but can say that the Parliament Street staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They're also quick to pour a great pint or to find you a perfectly chilled bottle. I go back regularly and love the atmosphere, especially later on a Wednesday.

A great place if you like different beers, although don't let it put you off if you're not a fan! The food is fantastic and the portions massive - never quite got round to trying one of their delicious-sounding puddings as I was too full!

I have to say I really liked their chicken wings and I’ve had them several times and they’ve always been adequately cooked. It’s the only place I can find in Dublin that does properly spicy wings. They should do a good blue cheese dip with them to top it off. I recommend you go for the Suicide ones they go really well with one of their brews.

The Porterhouse is a great pub in the wintertime, although any time of year is great for their burgers! Come here if you're heading on a night out in Temple Bar and want to line the stomach - the "Smokey" burger is delicious, and their wings are great. Add their homebrew beer to the mix and it’s the start of a good night!

I went to The Porterhouse for lunch today with three friends. We ate 2 burgers and 2 portions of wings as a group. The burgers were lovely, however the Chicken Wings left a lot to be desired. Some were like they were undercooked and others we like rubber as if they were overcooked. The sauce wasn’t very tasty either. The atmosphere at lunchtimes isn’t great however in the evenings the buzz is great. There only seemed to be one waitress for the whole place and she seemed under pressure and more or less rushed us into ordering our food. The standard of the food is great and the food arrived quickly but it doesn’t cost much for good customer service. I can understand her being like this as it seemed as though she was on her own but even one more waiter/ress could have compensated for this.
