Got deal for this restaurant €50 food and drink for €25 really great deal but menu prices expensive. Staff very friendly and efficent. Food well presented and as described in menu portions small. Loved the brown bread but was disappointed with dessert, chocloate and brandy cake turned out to be what I would discribe as biscuit cake. Would go back if I got another deal.

I must say, I read reviews and wonder do people think they are professionals at this. Do they get a special buzz out of causing Restaurants problems. I am not a Professional at this, I just eat out a lot with my work. I am a customer. No more, No less. I waited for 45 minutes for a table here last night, there was a que out the door, I have not seen that is a long time. The lady on the desk was exceptional, a full restaurant, buzzing and hopping, and she was polite, calm and very friendly, "talk a walk to the pub or go for a stroll for about 40 minutes and Ill have a lovely table for you" she said. We did just that and when we returned, YES she have a lovely table. The Restaurant was hopping, Irish music on in the background, beautiful old wooden walls, interesting bric-a-brac on the shelves. Amazing!! The service was friendly, but genuinely friendly, no false smiles, staff seem to be happy to work here. The food, well, I had Chicken Wings and they were to die for, crisp, well cooked in a beautiful bbq sauce, my partner had pate and was wowwed. I had the Blackened Cajun Chicken which was tasty, moist and cooked to perfection, and my partner had the Beef Ireland which I was told was the best ever tasted. The dressing on my side salad was truely great. The brown bread is amazing, and I was allowed to buy a loaf for a mere 3.50. Here in the middle of Temple Bar is a restaurant I seemed to have missed all this time. Well worth a visit. Great Job.

Randomly walked in with my friend on a Sunday, greeted at the door and seated immediately. The atmosphere is very cozy and the staff are efficient. We went with the fried brie and veg spring roll...bit pricey but quite tasty. I had the monkfish which was devine...served with mash, veg and mustard sauce...yum. My friend had the sirloin but she said it was rather tough...but still ate it. All in all, very nice place, good size portions and will definetely be back!

We went there for a late lunch one Wednesday. There seemed to have a good value lunch at 15euros for 3 courses. We had soup for starters which was nice and the bread too but the rest of the dinner was appalling! The chicken that followed was tasteless and watery and the dessert didnt prove better even though it was just profiterolles! The service was not much better, the waiter ignored us totally and the service was very slow! Will not be going there anytime soon. The only good thing about the place is the toilets, which are spoitless!

Attention all non tourists. What a little gem this is in Temple Bar. It advertises itself as a traditional Irish restaurant and it was fairly quiet for a Sunday afternoon. The service is prompt and polite. Importantly, toilets were spotless. The menu has a good variety of fare from steak to seafood to beef & guinness pie. Wines come by the bottle, half bottle and glass. The lager available is draft Carlsberg. At 4pm we were still in time for the lunch menu which runs til 5pm. I had the open chicken sandwich and my partner had the all day breakfast. Both were delicious. The sandwich was a full breast of grilled chicken with pesto dressing on a thick slice of walnut and raisin brown bread and side salad. Really tasty. I would've been happy with the bread alone. The breakfast was two fried eggs and grilled sausages, bacon, black & white pudding, tomatoes, toast & tea, All this with a side order of chips and a glass of Carlsberg for €22.00. They also do an early bird - 3 courses for €14.95 which we'll definitely be returning to try.

Very impressed with this little gem of a restaurant. Enjoyed a wonderful meal on a bustling Thursday night, served by the most attentive and efficient staff. Started with the smoked salmon which was fresh and flavoured delicately with capers and a delicious salad dressing and came with a generous portion of brown bread. The bread was so good that it was almost like cake! For main course I had the salmon fillet - unfortunately the monkfish was off - and I was able to request that this come without butter. The fact that my specific dietary requirements could be met is the sign of a good eatery where the food is freshly prepared. The house red - a Chilean Cabernet Sauvugnon was very good; warm, rich and with good body. To finish I shared an apple and mixed berry pie; again, the slice was very generous and finished off with some very good coffee to which the waiter very happily added lots of extra marshmallows! It's the little touches like this that make an evening that bit special. Altogether a delightful night. Will be back - if we can get in the door!

Went here the Saturday night of the Valentine's weekend with my partner. We both ordered chicken wings which were the worst I've ever tasted. The sauce was horrible and the chicken wings were wet and slimy and just tasted bad. I couldnt eat mine and it was taken off the bill. I had chicken for mains which was very good. My partner had steak and asked for it medium and it was served rare but he just ate it anyway. The waiting staff werent very friendly and there was no real atmosphere in the place. Overall not very impressed and won't be returning

I've been here twice and won't be going back anytime soon. I didn't want to judge it on just one visit alone, as we may have just arrived on a bad day. The first time I found the service slow and unfriendly and the food mediocre. Unfortunately, the second time was no better. The menu looked interesting, I had the Enchiladas, my boyfriend had a Stew. After a long wait, the food finally arrived and really was nothing to rave about. I finished off my meal with a coffee - another long wait - and really shouldn't have bothered, I have never had such awful coffee. The service was not friendly, the waiter only seemed to light up when it came to paying up time, expecting a tip no doubt. I normally tip, no matter what, but I was so unhappy with this service, I didn't want to waste any more money there. This place has potential, it looks great inside - the decor is homely, I love the bare walls at the stairway and the menu does have a wide range of dishes. However, a lot more effort is needed for this place to live up to its potential.

I ate here with my OH on a freezing cold evening and was delighted with the warm, cosy atmosphere inside. It smelled and sounded like an authentic Irish restaurant The paté and mussels starters were lovely. Unfortuantely some of the toast (for the paté) had mold on it that I didn't notice till I was shovelling it into my gob and it did me no harm so no biggy. The sauce left after the mussels was really tasty and was devoured. The steak & guinness stew was wholesome and full of steak. The sirloin that was asked for rare was indeed rare but wasn't a great cut of meet and had a lot of tough sinew to get through. The side potatoes & veg were perfectly cooked, the veg still had a slight bite. The post-meal Irish Mists with coffee made for a delicious end. I'd definitely eat here again but would probably try the fillet steak rather than sirloin.

This was my first visit to this restaurant. We chose it due to the Early Bird menu. We had the house salad as starter and it had a nice dressing and quite good. Most of us had the steak. It was cooked as required, however the quality of meat wasn't up to scratch. We accepted this, due to the great value of 3 course meal for 16 euro. The dessert of profiterole was delicious!! Our waiter was witty and did a great job. Someone in our group was running late, but he offered to wait even though we ran over a bit over the early bird offering time. He was very attentive. We had a little problem with the bill, when they overcharged us for the wine. We asked for the house wine but they brought us another wine and charged us therefore more. They were a bit disgruntled when we complaint, but corrected the bill. Overall, food was ok, but what do you expect for 16 euro? Additionally, when we arrived there was a big group of young men whistling and making comments at us. The waitress showing us to our table ensured that we got the furthest table away from them.

I have never been in this place before and just liked the décor and their early bird menu seemed as great value. The food was nice, nothing extraordinary but nice. Two of us had soup for a starter and i had a bacon salad. The salad was average while the bread served with the soup was just excellent. For the main course two of us had chicken and one a steak. Both courses were ok. However, it was a dreadful experience due to the service. There were three waiting staff and they were equally rude. The place wasn't very busy but the staff were rushing us all the time. They answered our questions with one word only, never smiled even once. While talking they were not even looking at us but beyond our heads as if they were waiting for somebody or just showing us that we are troubling them. They didn't even stop and stand at our table while taking our orders - they just were taking our order while walking. After that terrible experience we decided not to tip the staff. The bill came to 59.95. We paid 60 euros and left. The waiter ran after us with..10cents in his hand, shouting that we forgot our change. That was the rudest experience ever! Will never go back and will warn our friends against the same.

This was my third visit to The Shack. I came with family this time. We all enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and good food served to us by friendly staff. We ate from the Early Bird menu which offered a variety of dishes that catered for all our tastes at a reasonable price. The selection of beers was a little limited, but our waiter suggested a very nice bottle of red wine as an alternative. We would recommend this restaurant and we will definately return in the future.

I went here for the first time early on a Sunday evening and loved it. The atmosphere was great, good music and lots of people inside but we had no trouble getting a table. The wine was the nicest I've had in a long time and the menu was very varied and a good price. Most of our main courses were under €10! We all got desserts and they were very generous portions and tasted great too. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for tourists and locals alike.

I took my team from work here before Christmas. About a week before dinner when making the reservation, they only allow you to reserve a table before 20:00 and thereafter it would be first come first served etc. So I asked if I booked for 1830, what time would I need to give the table back and I was told 20:30. So I asked if I booked for 18:00 could I keep the table til 20:30 and was told I could. I went ahead and booked for 10 people. A few days later, I got a call from the restaurant to confirm the reservation and ask me to pay a €100 deposit by credit card. I have never been asked to do this before and thought it very odd, but went ahead anyway and was told that on arrival we would be given a €100 voucher. On the night when we got there, the atmosphere was nice enough and the table was decent for a large group. As we perused the menu, I ordered the wine. The staff seemed to be in a bit of a rush to take our food order and when I asked why, I was told that we had to give the table back at 20:00. I politely, but very firmly assured her that it was a condition under which I booked, that I was told we could keep the table until 20:30. I got a sour-puss look from the waitress and was told she would have to check. She went off and spoke to another staff member who gave us the evil eyes and obviously were giving out about us, but came back and confirmed we could stay until 20:30. Some of us had starters and all were ok. Most of us ordered steaks and they were nice enough too, but a bit on the pricey side for a very average restaurant. Side orders were ok too. A few people had desserts and we all had coffee and liquers. A very enjoyable evening was had, but that was more about the company than the restaurant. It's ok, but I wouldn't rush back.

Went to shack the Friday before Christmas, I was expecting the place to be heaving but it was surprisingly quiet although admittedly we ate at 7pm. The service was very friendly and efficient and the food was very reasonable. I was surprised reading through other diners comments that they found the staff rude as we certainly did not have this experience. I would go back to this place for an informal meal and it's in a great location at the heart of temple bar.

I happened upon this restaurant about 9 o'clock on a thursday and we thought we'd try it. We didn't find the staff very friendly at all. The menu seemed quite good so I had the potato skins for starter, they were greasy and soggy, my boyfriend had the chicken wings and they were tasty enough. For main I had the beef and guinness casserole and it was really good and my boyfriend had the green curry, it was a fairly small portion. We weren't overly impressed with our food on the whole and I don't think I would go back again.

Went to the Shack for an early Sunday dinner last Sunday, have been to this restaurant before about a year ago and was very pleased but thought it had gone down badly this time. We ordered seafood chowder and the pate to start, the chowder was very thick but edible and my pate was quite nice but was rather like a moose pate, quite unusual texture but again edible. We ordered for our mains two shack steaks which from the menu came with a tomato, mushroom and cream sauce. When the steaks arrived the sauce was full of onions, now my partner detests onions and only ordered this steak because of the description of the sauce on the menu. When we pointed this out to our waitress (who I'm sure was the manageress) she nearly had a row with us. We asked for the menu again to confirm that it said no onions in the sauce which she gave us but still continued to argue with us saying that there are usually onions in most sauces. This argument went on for a few minutes and we were just about to say forget the whole thing when she then said we could change our steaks. At this point I actually wanted to leave because I was sure that the Chef would just have taken the horrible onion sauce off the steaks but we decided to wait and see what arrived. In fairness two steaks came to the table after about ten minutes with a lovely pepper sauce but we had another waiter at this stage it was like she didn't want to talk about the situation again. We had 2 expresses after our meal and I couldn't wait to leave the place in the end. She returned to our table when we were drinking our coffees and apologised but it was so forced. I didn't like her attitude at all, overall we did not have a nice experience and will not be returning.

Went here for lunch with a friend one day and must say I'd reccommend it, I had the sausage and mash while she had a chicken dish. Both were generous portions and really filled us. Wine was a good selection too and service was friendly, nice cosy place for lunch in traditional irish setting.

Enjoyed a nice lunch here. Menu has a good variety of choices and the restaurant setting is cozy and relaxed. The wine choices were also nice and what really completed the day was that the staff is attentive and friendly. We'd definitely go back again.

This is set as a tradional Irish Restaurant. I found the menu to be quite wide. My friend and I both had different chicken dishes. Bothe very tasty. One thing though to subsitute chips for potatoes cost an extra €2. Saw another table get potatoes. It seemed to give a small portion.

Went in to the Shack on "speck" as my partner is a vegetarian and we are constantly looking for veggie meals that are not run of the mill. The nut & veg stir fry caught my partners eye and I had the duck. My meal I will describe as satisfactory, but wouldn't go beyond that. My partners meal was a different story as it was dry, and the ramekin of soy sauce which she asked for to alleviate this problem arrived cold. Another ramekin of sour cream to accompany a dried up potato cake??!! Was definitely not fresh. This however was not the worst. She then proceeded to place around the edge of her plate, about 8-10 pieces of vegetable which could only be described as cremated! When I asked the very apologetic manageress if I could have a word with the "chef" I was told that he would not speak to me. This is an award winning restaurant and as such should take more care in how it presents food. A Spanish gentleman & his daughter a few tables away had a similar experience, and their words to us upon departure was simply "very bad". I posted a similar review on the Shack website, but they haven't added it to the guest review page!(Surprise surprise!) All in all, a very poor performance from a restaurant which obviously can do better, and very unfair to the floor staff who couldn't have been more apologetic and accommodating, for something out of their control. Vegetarians - be warned!

It was nice to revisit this restaurant after such a long time. The menu is more comprehensive than it used to be. Service is fairly quick, meals reasonable. It's the type of place you know you can rely on for something easy on the system!

We were here for the early bird last night. Some things you have to keep in mind... portions might be smaller, you may be rushed or not paid much attention by the waiters.... but I draw the line at food being unfresh. Pity because under 20 euros for three courses plus coffee is amazing value and the surroundings were actually really nice as were the staff. Starters of soup and potato skins were nothing special. Boyf felt that his steak was several days old and my seafood pancake was not the freshest... I'm giving them a two because, we both felt very queasy afterwards and a glass of wine costs 6.60 (rip off for a glass of plonk).

I've been here a couple of times and both times the food was fantastic. My last visit was on Valentines Day, famously known as one of the worst nights of the year for restaurants. Fearing the worst - overpriced and limited set menus - we booked a table in the Shack restaurant (first come first serve after 7pm). Although the restaurant did have a special Valentine's set menu they did not force it down our throats, we still had a full choice of the regular A la Carte menu. The food was delicious. I had deep fried brie to start and sea bass with fennel for main which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor while my boyfriend had fried shrimp and Cajun chicken for main. Although my boyfriend was slightly disappointed with the size of his starter he was more than happy with his delicious main course (as was I), and the chocolate brownie cake we shared for dessert was to die for!! All in all we had a great time and I kept the red rose and chocolates which were left on our table.

This restaurant is more cozy than trendy, but the staff are friendly and the food is tasty. There's also lots of choice on the menu. If you just want a quiet meal, its a great place to go.

Went to The Shack on Thursday evening last week and had a lovely meal. The restaurant has a gorgeous atmosphere, wit the low lighting and homely decor. There was a huge variety of choice on the menu and the waitresses could not do enough for us. Had the Mussels to start which were delicious and the banoffi for dessert which was lovely. I was slightly disappointed with the tagliatelli dish for mains but overall it was a very enjoyable evening. Will go back again.

I went here for the Early Bird with family last week, as it was recommended to us. The choice on the early bird menu was quite good. The food was really tasty, but portion sizes werent the biggest, so one member of the party was left still hungry after the small bowl of Irish stew! Overall tho the service and atmosphere was very good, and I would recommend this restaurant to others.

I ate here last Saturday night with my husband. We ordered Red Wine which was served chilled as if out of a fridge. I had sirlion steak which was tough and chips which were not cooked. I returned my meal but it did not improve. I had profiteroles for dessert which were frozen inside and had hot chocolate sauce poured over them but they were inedible. Overall I was very unhappy with my meal and I would not go to this restaurant again.

I ate here on Sat night with my mother. We shared the garlic prawns for starters which came with really nice fresh brown bread. The prawns were cooked perfectly. We both had the sea bass with fennel and sambucca sauce. I love sea bass but I was a bit dubious about the sambucca ingredient and rightly so. The sea bass was supposedly pan fried but I could barely see the fish underneath the amount of cream sauce that it was served with. The sambucca flavor was extremely strong and made the dish inedible. It was a really bizarre combination that didn’t work. Service was really good though; the staff were really friendly

I've been to The Shack twice and both times the atmosphere and the service were great. The staff were very attentive and every dish I sampled was delicious, couldn't fault it.

Good experience, apart from grumpy looking waitress! We ate here last Thursday evening, for the first time. I like the decor, I found it cosy, and it was a nice kind of place to shelter from the rain! The food was quite good, we thought it was good value. The service was dine, in that the waitress was prompt etc. - however I found her a bit off-putting as she refused to crack even a tiny fake smile, even though I did my best to be friendly to her. It may sound like a small thing, but in my opinion, if you can't manage something as basic as this then you shouldn't be in a hospitality type of job! She wasn't rude, but still it was bad. I would go back again, but to be honest, if I was served by somebody like this again, then it would be my last visit.

Went here for a meal with three friends to catch up. The food was good and the service was also good. However as soon as we were finished eating and said no to dessert, without asking for the bill, it arrived. They came back several times to ask were we ready to pay. Nice food but rushed service.

Walking through Temple Bar on Thursday, decided to drop in for an Early Bird. Great Service, great food, great prices and a warm cosy and buzzy restaurant. Will be back again.

Luckily the sun was shining when I ate here, we chose to sit outside, although the passing crowds were a little imposing I cant complain about the standard of food and the service. The price was reasonable and the food was very satisfying.

The portions were surprisingly small..we did go at lunch time but choose what looked like full meals...I had the Irish stew as was told this was the only gluten free option and my boyfriend had the sausage and mash. The food was lovely...but I don’t think it’s up to the restaurateur to decide how hungry you’re going to be at particular times of the day!

I've eaten here several times over the past 5 or 6 years and the service is wonderful, the cosiness and atmosphere is brilliant and the food delicious. The menu hasn't changed much however over those 5 or 6 years which I guess is a minor complaint and only relevant to those of us who eat there frequently. Incidentally the Banoffi is the best you'll find in the world!

Terrible. Went here recently and was very disappointed. Decor is dated, music awful, so is the menu. Very unimaginative. Chowder was bland and fish had been boiled for hours. Staff seem to have no sections as we were asked 4 times by 4 different people were we all right. I would not go back here.

Had lunch here today. There was a nice relaxed atmosphere which is rare for lunch time. Food was nice and very good value but the service was slow, considering the restaurant wasn't very busy and the waitress was grumpy, bordering on being rude. I'd eat here again if a saw a different waiter working!!

One word - wow! The location is great and it was only when my partner and I strolled along Temple Bar we stumbled along this great restaurant! I had the deep fried potato skins which I have never tasted nicer! The duck was out of this world and for such good value as well! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

We ate here with a large group of People on a Tuesday nite, we were disappointed to know that they didn’t take booking after 7pm so we had to just chance getting our party of 10 in @ 9pm, but we were delighted to see that they could accommodate us then. The food was great and served promptly, the Duck was divine and I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

I personally had a very bad experience at the Shack. It was unfortunately my friend's farewell dinner. We were first seated promptly, asked to order swiftly by a rude and grumpy waitress and told 5 times that we were given 2 hours to eat. There was nothing exceptional about the meal for the price we paid and we got charged for a bread we had not ordered. Although this became ridiculously funny at the end, I was very disappointed since we intended to spend an easy and relaxed time between friends. I would therefore not recommend this restaurant.

Went here for a birthday meal with 4 friends and had a great time. The restaurant was quiet enough given the location, but the food was well presented and tasty we had a nice bottle of wine with the meal and the staff were very helpful. I would recommend it to friends who wanted a centrally located meal without feeling ripped off.

I was there for lunch with my family a while ago. We ordered several starters to share (all of them very good), and everybody was quite happy with their mains... except me! I ordered the steak and I found it to be sinewy, couldn’t finish it! Fortunately my mother was generous enough to share her massive, delicious bacon pancake. Desserts were just fine, although the apple tart was a major disappointment... All in all, it’s a nice place, wonderful location, very good value. The only thing I really disliked was one of the waiters, I found him terribly vain, dismissive and almost rude! However, I think I might risk it and go back, I might be lucky and find it’s his day off...

Two years ago I was here on holiday and we ate 2 of the 3 nights here...the food, especially the salmon was GREAT.... now 2.5 years later, we moved to Dublin and our first dinner after arriving was here... The atmosphere was still wonderful, nice staff and the food was delicious, it is not really cheap, but it is worth it for a 150%

Food here was delicious and price included veg and potato, which is rare these days. My prawns were v tasty. Our wine was v good and staff were extremely friendly even when we ordered the wrong wine. It was our mistake but staff were v accommodating and made no fuss returning the wine despite the fact that they had already opened it. Dessert menu was a little disappointing. Nothing v exciting on it. I settled for a Baileys Coffee instead which was a bit lacking in Baileys but overall a very pleasant dining experience in a comfortable and cosy restaurant with a reasonable amount of vegetarian options.

Had dinner there yesterday, what a lovely little place in heart of Temple Bar, food was good, yummy mussels, delish chocolate ice cream, lovely creamy cheesy garlic potatoes and the baby fried potatoes. Atmosphere was nice & relaxed, it was very early in the evening and there was a lovely cd with Frank Sinatra style music in the background. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will be going back here!

My boyfriend and I went for dinner in the Shack on Friday night. We were seated promptly, but asked if we were ready to order promptly too! Too promptly..Too many times! The food was good enough and cooked well but nothing, which would have us calling back for more. I had the seafood chowder to start and a stuffed chicken dish as a main. My boyfriend had the chicken liver pate to start followed by a fillet steak. Both starters were nice, but the fillet steak was sinewy in parts and the chicken dish was nothing special! Food was reasonably priced.

Pre-booked the table and had a great position in the window. However, although the food was of good quality it was served warm. Waitress service was good but sometimes too efficient as felt a bit rushed by being asked if we had finished, and plates were taken away before everyone had finished their course.

I visited the Shack last week for the 3rd time in as many months. The atmosphere in the room is so cosy and warm, it’s a real treat. The waiting staff are so friendly and bubbly it makes me want whatever they are on. It’s just a great warm welcoming Restaurant with excellent food and a great wine list. I’ll be back again and again, especially now that I have my Loyalty Discount Card.

I was in the restaurant over the Christmas period. The table was booked in advance as we had a large group of 12. The food was good, however our whole dining experience was ruined by a grumpy waitress and a very quiet, dead atmosphere. The waitress was not helpful in any way and didn’t smile once. I will not be going back here in a rush.

This is an Irish restaurant serving Irish food at its best. The food here is mainly Irish but not exclusively. It attracts a lot of people being in the centre of Temple Bar. I had to book a week in advance just to get a table and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is very small and a little bit cramped but that is about the only negative. The service was first class, the food was quick and exactly how we ordered it. The choice is huge and will easily please everyone. It is definitely value for money and the chef will give you the recipe if you want to know how to cook the meal at home. It is in a perfect location for a night out. Definitely worth a try. (Try the Bacon & Cabbage).
