This is a really nice cafe for lunch, brunch or cake and coffee. They do really good savory tarts and sandwiches. The cakes are amazing and without a doubt they do the best lemon meringue pie in town. Generally the service is very good, however, they do get very busy at times so you may be kept waiting. It's a little be pricey compared to some other cafes around, however the quality of food (especially the cakes!) keeps me going back. P.S. There is a good outside seating area for sunny days.

Got a couple of take away cakes from Here for the weekend! Carrot cake, cheesecake (more like cheese tart) and chocolate cake! All terrible! Would have purchased boxers cakes from aldi's! Chocolate cake was dry, cheesecake was a tart and not a good one ad the carrot cake... Could have bought it in your local shop! Very disappointing!!

I had been in here at Christmas and had a lovely meal with friends so decided to treat my husband to a meal here. The place wasnt busy so we had our pick of seats and the service was quick and friendly. I had the cheese and potato tart which was lovely but my husband wasnt impressed with his ham and cheese sandwich it wasnt great just bland cheese and ham thrown together and the bread didnt seem fresh. the side salad was paltry. If you are looking for a hot meal and dont like savory pastries I wouldnt reccommond here as it really is only a sandwich/tarts and cake cafe. We didnt get cakes but I can vouch that there desserts are delicious I had the most divine Victoria sponge there at Christmas.

Visted here last Saturday for a pre Christmas girls lunch catch up. The place was packed but the staff were so nice and fitted us in after only a few minutes wait. We all tried the savoury tarts which were lovely and came with lovely side salad and breads. To follow we had the desserts which were fab the lemon meringue was to die for and the baked cheesecake and victorian sponge also tasted great too. Definately a great lunch and will definately be going back there again.

after hearing and reading so many great reviews i had high hopes for queen of tarts, un fortunately i had an extremely disappointing experience here. I opted for the ham, cheese and chutney sandwiche. My two friends ordered the sandwich and soup combo. When my sandwich arrived a fly crawled out from under the bread. I called the waitress and told her, she took it back and came back with a new one. I took a bite and it tasted like the sandwiche had been sitting there all day long. The bread was NOT fresh and incredibally chewy, and extremely dry and lacked flavor which was very disapointing as it looked quite tasty. The ham was just average and so was the cheese. Halfway through eating my sandwiche i realized they never even put chutney in it. At that stage i had enough. The side salad consisted of a few leaves not even a salad dressing. The waitress than came over to take away or plates and asked me was it ok. I told her no, that my food was a complete let down, and i pointed out to her that they forgot to put in the chutney. She told me that she would put some chutney in it and i told her not to bother as the sandwiche was muck. The waitress came back and apologized and asked my would i like anything else, and i told her no. Its bad enough finding a fly in your sandwiche, and to get a second sandwiche not up to scratch put me off eating anything in there. When we got the bill they gave us a 2 euro discount on a thrity euro bill. I was outraged, i was not expecting them to charge me 7euro 50 for two faulty sandwiches. It was an absolute disgrace. Considering they have won so many awards i expect 5 star treatment in service and cullinary skills. I would not recommend and will never set foot into this place again. Appalling service.

Had to queue for a cake and a coffee at this delightful establishment on Saturday last, the staff were very pleasant and efficient and I was instantly impressed with that! I had a cappucino, and the Victorian Sponge Cake which was to die for. Fresh cream and strawberries made this light fluffy cake absolutely mouth watering. My boyfriend ordered a cappucino and the chocolate, pear and almond tart. A bit heavy for my tastes, but full of flavour and also very tasty. Love this place, and may become a regular during the Saturday market in Templebar!

Myself and my work colleagues are regular customers here given its city centre location. I have been here a number of times recently and have to say each time I cannot fault the soup. It is always delicious, homely and comforting no matter which flavour it is. I have also started asking for just an accompaniment of brown bread as it is absoloutly delicious. I dined here on Monday however and was disappointed to find that the spinach tart I had been dreaming about all day was not available. I decided upon the potato and cheese tart and have to say I was rather disappointed. It was more like a potato gratin than a tart and was predominantly just potato and nothing else. Also the tarts are usually served with some nice side salads but this time I got 3 florets of brocolli, 4 little cubes of feta and a plate full of not very appetising lettuce leaves. I wouldnt opt for this again if my first option was not available. Also service was very slow. I had to ask twice for my coffee after my food and even then it was another good 10 minutes arriving. This wont stop me returning however.

Had lunch here with my daughter. We both had cheddar and onion tart which came with a nice side salad and Italian bread and was delicious. I had apple and blackberry crumble and she had chocolate pecan tart for desert, both sublime. A pot of tea for two served in a proper teapot and with china cups rounded it off nicely. The atmosphere was very olde worlde tea rooms. My only complaint would be that we were seated beside an open window (too high up for me to reach) on a very cold day and I couldn't get a waitress's attention to ask her to close it, but this is a minor quibble. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I bought some scones and muffins to take home, which were also gorgeous. Overall a great experience and I will be back.

Love Queen of Tarts. I have been here a few times (cows lane) and enjoyed it every time. Last time I had the red onion and cheddar cheese tart and it was sooo good. Love the china cups too. Had the Baileys Choclate chip cheesecake for dessert and it too was really good. They could do with maybe a few more staff but overall im a big fan and will definitely be back!!

I had the pleasure of going to The Queen of Tarts in old Temple Bar(Cow Lane) yesterday for tea and cake. Its very well set out, the cakes look amazing. The cakes aren't over the top and look so fresh, i'd love to be working there making cakes. I had a plum tart , pastry was perfect and the plums were sitting in a jam/syrup that had a hint of vanilla. Joanne my girlfriend had chocolate fudge cake, it looked gorgeous( and tasted so aswell), the cake was covered in a Chocolate ganache(Melted Choc with Cream). To top the cakes off , the tea was beautiful, and served in bone china cups, very lah dee da. :) I cant wait to go back here, may need to go back sooner rather than later to help forget the misery of the budget tomorrow.

A really intimate little café but the food is second to none. I had a spinach, brie and nut tart with hot apple cider for the seaon that's in it!! And the desert was to die for - Warm chocolate pecan tart. It was quite packed, we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated but well worth the wait. The only flaw was the waitress seem to be a little scatty and had to confirm our order a couple of times. Now this was a Sunday afternoon and could be forgiven cause prehaps she may have been out the night before!!! But definitely can not wait for my next visit there it's so refreshing to eat somewhere where all the food is made on the premises.

Love the coffe and cakes! Soups are also lovely! Dont really like to seat inside- very claustrophobic but outside tables are great, even when you seat there you may wait quite a while before someone will take your order. But definitley we need more places like that in Dublin!

A really cosy and lovely place to have a tart/desert or lunch in. It is always packed and busy, however the service has always been good. So far my favourite tart is goat cheese's, yummy. They are not cheap but you get the quality food.

This has to be one of my favourite cafes of all time. Went here on a Saturday a few weeks ago and there was a brilliant atmosphere, with the market in Cow's Lane going on outside. The cafe was busy but not deafening. The range of cakes is second to none and they are totally delicious. They always have at least one gluten free cake now too (there were three on the day I was there) which makes it amazing for the gluten-free dieters among us! The service is great too - not pushy, but very attentive. My husband hates it however - he's convinced it's a place only for chattering women! The only slight downside for me and the price. A bill of almost €8 for a slice of cake and a cup of tea can be a bit too much in my world, but definitely worth it for the occasional treat.

I don't see the big deal about this one, I must admit I was rather disappointed. All hype and no substance me thinks. I also didn't like the fact that I had to que for a seat in a glorified cafe. Granted I don't have the biggest sweet tooth in the world but something just doesn't sit well with me here. The coffee was bland to start with. I love a deep, rich, dark roast and the americano I got here was just weak and lifeless. The laté was just a waste of coffee and steamed milk to be frank. Now I didn't have lunch, just a pastry as I'd heard so many great things. I'd usually demolish any pastry even distantly related to an apple danish, but their apple crumble was just too sweet for me. I'd like to try it again but don't think I'll bother.

i used to be a fan. I am no longer. And believe it when i say that me and my work colleagues used to go here religiously every friday for morning tea. More often than not you will receive a stale scone. Dont believe the 'baked this morning' lark. Not only that but the 'management team' has a lot to learn regarding DECENT customer service. Recently we were treated very badly for somehow 'taking our time' over a couple of coffees (and might i add it was a quiet time of the day) with no demand for tables. Me and my friends wont be back. Certainly NOT good value for money. A bowl of porridge is almost 6euro - in this climate!?!! And Dear Ms Manager have you ever hear of service with a smile?

Had a really nice soup lunch here. It's refreshing to really taste fresh vegetables delicately prepared, the bread was absolutely gorgeous as well and served warm. I went here with a friend for cake & coffee having heard good reports. We sat at a table outside, which was a nice people-watching spot, if a bit chilly in October! I ordered a berry crumble which they didnt have, so settled for a strawberry & rhubarb crumble instead. It was nice - tasty & served warm with a (miniscule) amount of (real!) cream on the side. I thought at over €5 though it could have been a bit more special - it was a pretty modest slice & an extra spoon of cream wouldn't have gone astray! Coffee was good, and our very pleasant waitress was on the ball.

Had the delicious hearty homemade soup here for lunch, which came with two slices of bread fresh from the oven. I found the sandwiches pricey in the past and think it's a bit expensive for lunch time, but the soup was worth it to warm up on a cold November day like today. No room for cakes though!

Went here to cow lane on Sat morning to try the breakfast. We had heard good things so had fairly high expectations. It was very busy, we were given a table right away. I thought that the tables were too close together and my chair was uncomfortable. We ordered two hearty breakfast and coffee. The coffee came first and was cold so we returned it and got fresh one that were hotter. Breakfast came, this consisted of one potato cake, two rashers two tomato halves and one egg and a basket of toast. Not a great breakfast at all. Rashers were a bit too salty for me and potato cake was dry with not much flavor. It was not at all good value at almost 10euro each. With tables being so close together the waitresses bumped my chair every time they passed. Only one toilet working in the entire resteraunt and there was a que for that. We wont be going back for breakfast again.

I treated my ten year old to lunch here today, having heard rave reviews of the cakes at the Dame Street branch. He was very excited about his ham and cheese foccacia bread sandwich (Eu7.95), but was put off it by the mustard. Mustard wasn't mentioned on menu (I checked the menu with the waitress) but he declined a replacement and ate about half of it, avoiding the mustard. I think we should have been given a discount but none was offered or put on the bill, but never mind (in future, it might be wise to check if customers want mustard, especially where it's not mentioned specifically). Anyway, I enjoyed my roast vegetable sandwich with hummus. The child had a generously sized brownie which more than made up for his sandwich - not a crumb of it left. I had shortbread - coconut was mentioned on the menu but I couldn't taste it. I was really pleased that my tea was served in a nice little crockery teapot - all those who still use steel pots take note! There is a pleasant buzz to the place and our waitress was cheery and efficient. Two sandwiches, two puddings, one fresh orange juice and a pot of tea came to Eu29.95.

Very expensive for lunch considering the amount of food you get, this is definately more of a coffee type place as opposed to looking for anything substantial. Buying water with your meal here is a rip off.

This place is nice to stop for a coffee and delicious bakery goods. The atmosphere is lovely - you can sit outside if the weather is nice. The buns etc are delicious, my boyfriend had a toasted sandwich which he said was good. My main problem with this place is that it is very expensive - I paid E2.50 for a biscuit which I thought was a bit much.

My first time visiting here. It was recommended to us. It is a very small cafe so we were lucky to get a table. We were there for breakfast. Had their freshly squeezed orange juice and a chocolate scone. The scones were absolute heaven. Will be going here again, I want to try their cupcakes next time! A tad pricey for the orange juice but everything else is worth it.

Having been a frequent visitor for tea n scones or cakes or lunch I wasn't bowled over by breakfast at the Queen of Tarts. It was quiet enough when we arrived a little after 10.30 on Saturday morning. I couldn't find fault with the 'pricey' pancakes but a ten euro for two pancakes, they were on the expensive side. Throw three coffee into the mix and there wasn't much change out of twenty seven euro. And while the waitress was attentive, I was less than impressed to be given the bill, that I hadn't asked for, while I was still drinking my coffee. It wasn't like there was a rush on tables at that hour of the morning! Even the sight of brightly iced cupcakes couldn't dispel my disappointment as I was leaving.

Came here for lunch with a friend. There's loads more space and a lovely outside area for sitting when it's sunny. The food is great - I had a houmus and roast veg sandwich which was lovely, and they make their own bread but it was quite pricey.I wouldn't be in a major rush to go back...there are many other places as good as that aren't as pricey.

Love the food - but it is so over priced (and was even 18 months ago, let alone now). The cakes are always delicious, as is pretty much everything else - apart from the cooked breakfast: you could hop the rashers off a wall, and they'd leave a dent. And that's not an isolated review - I don't know whether they cook the rashers while still stuck together, and then nuke them to heat them up - but that's what they taste like. Awful. You'd need a fairly sharp steak knife to cut them. A real blight on otherwise yummy - if expensive - food. Sort it out!!

This is a favourite lunch spot for me but it unfortunately has to be a little bit of a treat because as noted by previous reviewers it is quite pricey for what you get. If you find yourself particularly flush some saturday afternoon though it's a great option. The eponymous tarts are delicious, light buttery pastry and generous fillings with a variety of fresh salads. The chicken and stuffing foccacia is also fantastic and if you still have an appetite afterwards the victoria sponge is a winner. On the minus side, as well as cost is the service can be quite flakey (though never unfriendly) and the coffee usually tastes quite bitter and burnt.

Have been here on a number of occasssions for their delicious (if overpriced) cakes. On this occassion we came for breakfast. I tried the hearty breakfast, which was quite tasty but a bit dissapointing and a bit small. Service was very slow, and overall it was a little pricey for what we got.

Came here after church in Christchurch with my family. I must say when I looked at the prices I had a bad feeling, but decided to go ahead anyway, as the whole group were there. I went for the Homely Breakfast, priced at 9.75, I was expecting great things. Sadly this was not to be, The egg had a hard yoke, the sides of the egg were yellow, the rashers were dry. Clearly showing that it had all been pre cooked and had been lying around all morning. The only thing freshly cooked was probably the toast. Even if it had tasted great, the portion was ridiculously small. I actually had breakfast later on to make up for not actually being full, that breakfast I had in a nearby location was considerably cheaper and actually cooked fresh. This place is a disgrace and epitomizes everything bad about the Celtic Tiger.

I love the idea of this place and have been quite a few times. The cakes are very nice and the sandwiches can be quite tasty but the prices are RIDICULOUS. Off the scale silly-they really need to cop themselves on. As far as I can make out most of the guidebooks of Dublin recommend it and so there are often tourists there but I have seen groups of them looking bewildered at the cost of it all-especially the french and italians who can get better coffee and more refined pastries at a fraction of the cost. I must say I agree with the other poster that they want to keep the turnover of tables up and so make it uncomfortable. When we were there the cold air conditioning(in March!) mysteriously came on upstairs and apparently couldn't be turned off despite repeated requests to a waitress who seemed genuinely baffled as to why it couldn't be turned off. That kind of cynicism of those in charge does not sit well with the "homely and comfortable" atmosphere that Queen of Tarts is feted for.

Recommendation: great food, despite being quite pricey, but please try out first the original Queen of Tarts on Dame St for the more authentic character and wonderfully cosy intimate atmosphere!... I had arranged to meet friends in 'Queen of Tarts' and as things often go I went to the original on Dame St and they went to this one on Cow's Lane. The cafe on Dame St had a wonderful atmosphere on this overcast morning, however I moved to meet my friends and was quite disappointed with this sister cafe. Bigger does not always mean better: the music was that much too loud so as to hinder conversation, which may have been intentional as it was also very busy and thus this tactic would be conducive to keep the clientele moving. Upon ordering, we found that two of the courses we wanted were not 'on' that day. We also requested extra mustard which despite asking twice never appeared. Nonetheless, the soup and ham sandwich were delicious; and my friend who ordered the cheesecake refused to share, clearly a positive sign.

If you are a visitor to Dublin, make sure this or it's sister restaurant is on your list of places to visit, it's authentic, honest and very good value for money. It may not be the best food in the country, but it's the sort of food we were all reared on, if we were lucky enough to have a mother who knew how to bake.If you are not a visitor, support the queen of tarts on a regular basis.

I heard good things about this place and it was on my list to check out for some time but I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Inside was a bit busy so me and a friend sat outside. Despite two waitresses seeing us motion to them when they saw us waiting outside, nothing happened for about 12 minutes, until we saw an empty berth inside. Once we got in we were served immediately. I had the brunch and a coffee. The brunch was minimalist, overpriced, and unsatisfying and I was given an espresso by mistake. Wont be going here again.

I ate breakfast here on a Saturday morning and had such a nice experience. The atmosphere in the place is great with a really good selection of music playing that really helps the ambience. The waiting staff are really helpful and friendly and the food is without fault. Everything is served on bone china, which is such a nice touch. I bought a few cakes to take away as I left they look so tempting and well presented at the counter. It is not the cheapest place to try for breakfast but as a treat it is well worth it.

Was in Queen of Tarts for afternoon tea on Sunday. Place was buzzing, had to wait a few minutes for a table. Had a good look at all the cakes on offer and mad the difficult decision on what to have, everything looked really nice. I had tea, in a china cup, and a scone with cream and jam and my mam had coffee and a chocolate croissant. All was really nice, homemade and good quality. Bill was just under €12, which I think is well worth it for good quality cakes and drinks. Have had lunch here before and have also enjoyed that.

I am a huge fan! Not a better place in Dublin or possibly Ireland for cakes. Thank you so much to the owner for opening another, bigger place. Yes, it's on the pricey side but it's really worth it: big portions, good service, good atmosphere, lovely / quaint china. I JUST LOVE IT!

New, even bigger now. This does apply to the new additional location of the Queen of tarts. Same fantastic pies and pastries in a less squeezed environment than the original one. The place to be for all sweet tooth's in Dublin.

2 of my friends and I went here for lunch last week and despite reading a number of good reviews we all left disappointed. It was so expensive especially for a cafe. €5 for a small cake is unacceptable and especially now in a credit crunch. The Management/Staff practically blank you, they think their name is good enough and they don't need to do anything else. I would not consider going there for savoury food and if they decide to reduce their prices, then maybe I would return for a cake.

Went here for breakfast last saturday and was pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere was great, with the cow's lane market bustling outside! Very rustic and country kitchen type feel to the place. The menu isnt very extensive but there is some nice combinations. The staff are nice and friendly. Would definitely return here in the future!

This is the better of the two Queen of Hearts locations in Dublin. It's a bit more spacious, and the staff are a bit more laid back. The food just isn't as nice as it could be and there aren't many choices. There are better places to stop in for coffee and a chat.

A big fan of the old queen of tarts tried this place and have to say it doesnt' dissapoint, its normal to have a few teething issues, the staff still finding their feet and a bit of trial and error but the food and the atmosphere are both so enjoyable you can't help pardoning the rest, not really expensive for town and the quality of food your getting, will go time and time again.

I had a lovely lunch here on Monday. Everything was really tasty and the service was good. The portions could have been a little bigger, if I hadn't had dessert I would have left feeling a quite hungry.

I eat here quite a lot. While the food is quite nice (the granola and scones are lovely) there isn't a particularly big selection and the menu is very hard to read! I like this cafe though, and I often bring friends here if I want to impress them with a nice breakfast! The service is quite poor though, although it does depend on who serves you. One girl in particular is diabolical - from overcharging to getting my order wrong to forgetting I ordered... but as I'm a patient enough person it doesn't bother me too much. :) In summary, it's a lovely spot for breakfast, although it is a bit pricey and the service could do with some fine tuning!

I had breakfast here a few weeks ago and while it was lovely the prices were really a bit much for breakfast. I had the granola with fresh fruit and a very overpriced muffin (yum but it was almost €5). Its a pity its so expensive as it will probably get the tourist footfall but Ill be sticking to somewhere a bit further out of town to get more value for money.

What a beautiful little cafe! I love the new location: it's bright and cosy. My husband and I tried it one Saturday morning and now we go back there every weekend. Nice breakfast and wonderful pastries. My personal favorites are berry berry muffin, madeleines and rasberry cheescake.

The new Q of T in Cow's Lane is beautiful, the food is as good as ever, I always have the chicken stuffing sandwich and a yummy oat bran muffin for afters - how can something that healthy taste so good? I agree that the bigger cafe is a little hectic but it has just opened so hopefully service will settle down. The taste of home cooking is great, the cakes are delicious and virtually everything is made on the premises - made with love!! We need more cafes like this one - three cheers for the Queen!!

Great place for lunch. Bright and roomy with comfy cushions unlike the pokey original.Have had the savoury tarts, soup and sandwiches here. All delicious and hearty. The desserts are divine, not cheap but pretty typical of Dublin cafe prices I would say. Nice outdoor terrace as well.

The standard of the food is excellent, the décor is typical rustic French farmhouse but the prices and service really let the establishment down. I've been eating in the Cow's Lane branch regualarly since it opened, normally for breakfast, and in that time the service has remained consistently poor; sometimes it has been diabolical. Often, I have been standing at the counter waiting to pay whilst waitresses chat to eachother at the coffee machine and ignore/fail to notice me for what seem to be interminable periods. The Hearty Breakfast is great- the rashers are the best I've ever eaten and the potato cake is truly delicious (I must have eaten 30 of them by now and they've never been cold nor lumpy). It would be great if the chef could poach or scramble the eggs rather than just offer them fried. The cakes are also wonderful but are unjustifiably expensive- €4.25 for a take-away brownie is simply unreasonable as is €3.75 for a Danish, no matter how good it tastes. For whatever reason the owners decided to remove several things from the menu; namely the bacon/egg combo & bacon sandwich- they should make a hasty return because they seemed to be very keenly priced. If service improved and prices dropped then I would give it 5* undoubtedly- a real pity.

Have been coming here at least twice a week since this branch opened for either breakfast, lunch or take away cakes. I think the Hearty Breakfast is delicious, the rashers and potato cake especially are amazing! The cakes are delectable and the savoury tarts are great too. But the prices are set a little too high and the service at times can be quite substandard. Tasteful country French style decor and the cute china tea cups and saucers are a nice touch.

I went here for breakfast with a friend, having read a glowing newspaper review of their vegetarian breakfasts in particular. Sorry to report that said review is not remotely accurate (be warned, the breakfast options are very limited). Both of us ordered the vegetarian breakfast; there was no choice of how you'd like your eggs (they assume in 2008 that everyone eats fried eggs still), the chive potato cake was lumpy, undercooked and cold, the cooked tomato was also cold and has barely been shown a pan/grill and it all came with plain, boring sliced white bread toast - in a cafe noted for its baking! Am happy to report that their coffee is at least good. The service was perfunctory. We also came back later for cake and coffee to give it a second go. The cake was fabulous I have to say, both the self-professed 'best in town' carrot cake (interestingly lightly iced with white chocolate icing, a nice change from gloopy cream cheese) and the chocolate fudge cake. I had a green tea this time and it was nicely served and a very fragrant brew. Disappointingly though, the service was slightly worse this time and I agree with the other comments about the till area making it difficult to pay. The savoury tarts looked nice, may well try lunch there to check them out. Overall, I would not recommend this place for breakfast at all but would definitely recommend it for morning or afternoon, with their fabulous tasting cakes (the range is impressive) and good tea and coffee.

It's great to see a larger version of this cafe. The decor is very light, bright and airy and there's a decent outdoor space too. It might be an idea to angle the large mirror slightly so as not to reflect the air vent? Food was just as good as we had expected - the tarts are light and the salads varied and fresh. Desserts are good - too good. The one criticism that I'd have is that the service area for desserts, coffees and the tills is rather small so it can get a bit frenetic during the lunch rush which leads to longer waits than you'd like. All in all though, a great addition to a very nice part of temple bar
