Les Freres Jacques is easily my favourite restaurant in Dublin. I come here very often and both the food and service are exemplary. Being a traditionally French restaurant, all the waiters are French and friendly and charming. The quality of the fish in this place exceeds any restaurant nearby, the sole being a particualr favourite. I once had a carrot puree brulee with scrambled egg and a parmesan twist as a starter that was just so interesting and tasty. The table d'hote menu for four courses at €35 is beyond reasonable and with half price wines on monday and tuesday, its a firm midweek favourite. I cant stress enough the value of this restaurant and the quality of the food.

Wow, great food and service, I went on a tuesday night with my other half and had a great meal and a lovely bordeaux at half price, a nice surprise. I highly recommend the fish dishes, I had a wonderful black sole, which was cooked to perfection.

My family and Father Q had a really fantastic meal at Christmas Eve. Music band was little bit a problem. We could not enjoy the conversation. But everything else was amazing: food, wine and a service. I hope we can do it next year!

Myself & my wife went there the other evening with big hopes, the menu looked very very promising. However ...... food was really bad, especially considering the prices. Bitter risotto, rubber lobster, tasteless scallops ......... The only part that was really good was a dessert. Huge disappointment, however staff was extremely helpful and very friendly.

Decided to go here to take advantage of their early bird 2 courses €18 and half price wines! (great offer) The 2 staff were very efficient and friendly and we didnt need for anything. Restaurant was very quiet but then it was Tuesday...but a little backround music would be nice. The restaurant itself was very clean and nicely laid out...the type of place to go for a special night. The early bird had lots of choices (only downside was the huge surcharge on most of these) We opted for a €50 bottle of Chablis which we got for €25...fantastic wine. My food was nice, not the best ive ever had but did the job (beetroot spagetti & cheese...Lamb for main). My partner wasnt happy with his courses at all, starter was a cucumber type salad, left a lot of it, he has the mixed meat/fish mains which was just ok. Dessert was delicious though, spiced ice cream and choc. Im not sure if i will be back but i would recommend, might be other peoples cup of tea!

I visited with my wife and parents. I got the scallop starter, so did my wife - both were excellent. My parents ordered the duck confit and veggie salad - both excellent. For mains this is where the problems start. My wife got the monkfish and my mother the sole meuniere both terrific but myself and my father got the lobsters and considering we were paying just under Eur40/lobster I was really dissappointed that each was served with only one claw - presumably our two claws were kept for the lobster salad starter - unforgiveable in my view. The desserts were ok, my parents each got the apple tart (both burnt underneath) and I got ice cream (slightly too icey). We had several G and Ts and a very good bottle of white (number 49 I think). Overall exceptional service, great atmosphere and very expensive (we spent over Eur420 for 4) but let down by the burnt apple tarts and worst of all the MISSING LOBSTER CLAWS !!! I've been to this restaurant on around 4 occasions previously but I would now hesitate about going back.

Response:
While in the tank lobsters may loose a claw and still be perfectly healthy and any such claw would be discarded as it would represent a health hazard particularly being a shellfish . Lobsters are shown to the guest at the table for his or her comments if any before they are given to the kitchen and they are charge by weight so a missing claw would not be charge. There is no lobster salad on offer on our Menus and NEVER was , neither the chefs are in a habit of feeding themselves on claws from guests lobsters . I resent these ill founded , inaccurate , unfair and damaging comments , and rest confident that after 25 years offering lobsters to our patrons in LES FRERES JACQUES these sort of comments can not be taken seriously . I went to this restaurant recommended by a friend. Foodwise the restaurant was good overall, but not as good as I expected for the price on the menu. Service was good and atmosphere ok but you have to be careful with the table they give you, otherwise you'll be sitting in front of the entrance.

Highly disappointed by this restaurant. We heard so much about this restaurant however we can say, that after going there, this restaurant is definitely over rated! The food is good but the atmosphere and the interior design is really bad. The restaurant needs to be refurbished big time! For the price paid, I would definitely recommend others.

Went here for the early bird. The staff were very nice and attentive, and the food was really tasty and good value for money. The only downside I would say was the atmosphere as the place was quite empty and the only noise was coming from our table which made it a bit uncomfortable. Would recommend trying the early bird!

I visited Les Freres Jacques with my family on a Saturday night. We went for the early bird special which we all thought was a bargain for €18 for two courses and €23 for three. I had the game shepherds pie to start which was good but the port sauce had been over reduced so that it overpowered the flavour of game. For my main I had the salmon with rataouile. This flavours in this dish were great but the salmon had been overcooked so that it was a little dry. This didn't ruin the dish but I expected better from a restaurant with such a refined approach (they brought the selection of fish on offer that night to the table for a viewing before we ordered). My mum had the monkfish with lobster bisque risotto which was gorgeous but had a pricey €11 supplement. My sister had the scallops and prawns to start which was faultless but came with a €9.50 supplement which was alot for a starter. The service was great and we had a lovely evening but I the chef needs to pay more attention to the supplementless dishes on the early bird menu.

We ate here for my birthday, it was a special occasion so we were hoping it would be nice, it was beautiful, the food is fabulous and the service is attentive but not too much, we had a Christmas cocktail which was beautiful, the only issue was that it worked out quite expensive, for 2 people, 3 courses each, 1 bottle of wine and 2 cocktails - €180. Still for an occasion it really is worth it. Would recommend it as a treat.

We were last here about 18 months ago. Our visit last night was a celebration - three out of the party of four were marking milestone birthdays and we wanted something special. Our friends were great company, so the food did not get the attention it deserved. The spouse started with oysters (€10 for 7) which he says were good. Two of us had scallops with prawns - not bad, but not memorable. We can't remember the fourth starter. The spouse says the sole he ordered for the main course was overcooked. I had lamb noisettes which were elaborately arranged on the plate, but again they didn't distract me from the conversation. We think our companions had beef. I had some sort of rich fudgy dessert, the spouse liked his apple pie and icecream, and the companions' dessert involved icecream in pretty little pots. I am sorry that I cannot be clearer about what we ate, but either our conversation was too good or the food wasn't good enough! We weren't as impressed with it as on our last visit. That said, the service was friendlier and less haughty than I remember, and certainly not intrusive. Four starters, main courses and desserts, three aperitifs, a bottle of young Sancerre, a bottle of red and two coffees came to about €400. Not bad.

Response:
4/5 stars for food which wasn't memorable and 'not bad'?

To Riomhaire: 4/5 stars overall because the four of us had a great night. As I said a number of times in my review, we were more engrossed in our conversation and were in very good company. When rating using the sliders given by MenuPages I certainly didn't give 4 stars for the food.

Very, very disappointing. Was brought here as a birthday treat as it’s one of the better-known and well-respected establishments in Dublin. For the life of me I can’t understand why. The air was stale and fusty when we entered, the décor and lighting reminiscent of a cheap Chinese restaurant. The poorly-typed menu was a little limited but had adventurous touches – a good sign in an establishment able to carry it off. Les Freres Jacques did not. We were given an amuse-bouche involving prawns which was fine but a bit tired. She had the foie gras and I had the scallops & prawns to start – again, fine, but nothing special – we were expecting much better for the frankly extraordinary price. For main I had the roast duck magret which came with chocolate sauce; I had chocolate sauce with deer previously and it was a fantastic combination so expected much the same here. It was, however, cheaply made and it smothered the duck which, despite being well-cooked itself, I could not taste as it was swimming in the sauce. She has steak which, again, was fine, but nothing special and available elsewhere for much better value. The whole meal was one massive disappointment, especially given the astronomical price. Service was great and the wine good though. This place seems to be riding on the coat-tails of people who must have come here in decades past when it was one of the only fine food eateries in town, and who continue to patronise the place without realising the better food and value to be found elsewhere nowadays. Les Freres Jacques is well past its best and doesn’t deserve the reputation it has. The final cost of your dinner here is better off spent in a Michelin-starred restaurant where you will actually get something for your money. We left the place feeling cheated and robbed.

Our American friends chose this restaurant because it was under 'Fine Dining' and it was - fabulous. It was early so we could choose the 'early bird' but some of us went for the full a la carte, I started with Butter Seared Scallops And Prawns, Crunchy Mangetout Salad, and it was an incredible dish. I followed with Roast Duck Magret, Breadcrumbed Foie Gras & Chocolate Sauce. I feel I got the best meal out of the 4 of us. The others were jealously looking at mine. The lamb was great as was the steak but I think our visitor was not so impressed with his Whole Grilled Black Sole Meuniêre. However, he decided as he was going to be in Dublin for another few days, he would come back and have the duck. Nice atmosphere, with a piano player. The toilets are a bit far away, and impossible for anybody with wheelchair needs. The service was excellent. And when we came to pay, although we didn't think we had the early bird, we were actually charged for 3 early birds which brought the price down quite a lot. Divine fine eating.

Extremely poor service and overpriced food. From the very beginning you are run into rush and the service is not as good as you expect for the money you pay. The menu and a la carte dinner is based on various fancy names with void content. There are only two or three dishes that are worth it, the rest of the dishes are just under elaborated. Definitely not recommended and should be avoided.

I took some business clients to this restaurant. Even though they didn't land until late and we didn't arrive at the restaurant until around 9pm, the staff were completely accomodating and still presented the fish specials of the day, as well as taking the time to select good wines. Although not the cheapest restaurant in Dublin, you really get what you pay for. Definitely worth a visit.

I've been here a few times, both for lunch and dinner, and have to say, its never failed to out do itself. If you want to impress a business associate or an 'out-of-towner', this is the place to go. Don't be put off by the prices, this is French cuisine at its best, you won't regret it. Everything is cooked to perfection and the staff are very attentive, experienced & knowlegable. The wine list is also excellently selected, with half price bottles on Mondays and Tuesdays, you cant go wrong! The food is amazing, ive never had an average meal here, its always been an absolute delight. Highly recommended

My family and I decided to go for the early bird/pre theatre with the half price wine on a Tues evening and had an absolute blast. This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in Dublin and we eat out a lot. The food, wine, service and ambience were all fantastic, I can't praise the place enough. We had a baby with us and were made to feel more than welcome by the staff who were absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to go back to Les Freres Jacques again.

Had a group of 14 for an early evening meal following a meeting -the tables were very well laid - nothing was a problem. We had an absolutely thoroughly enjoyable evening - very attentive waiters - great attention to detail - the food was very well presented, hot and delicious - great choices on the menu and the early bird / dinner menus have great choices and reasonably priced given these recessionary times. We all enjoyed the night and already I have heard of two individuals rebooking to bring along a special friend. Will definitely be back. If I had to find one tiny tiny fault - could improve on the sides of vegetables( garden peas could have been improved with some sweetcorn & carrots & potatoes looks a bit rough& ready but tasted good. because everything else was so great I hate to even mention this !

Me and 2 friends came here to try the early bird. None of us liked our starters - I had smocked fish and risotto - the whole thing just didnt work well together. However, we all loved the mains - I had the beef and altho the portioned seemed a little on the small side, I was very full by the end. We also had a bottle of house wine which was lovely. The service was excellent. Atmosphere was good as everyone was eating there before going to a show in the Olympia. Really enjoyed the experience and will be back.

An all male group of 7 of us ate here (Early Bird) on a Friday night recently. Most of us stuck to the non supplement menu items which were more than adequate. The food was sumptious and the service was classy: We enjoyed our meal immensely and the good humour of the waiters added to our evening. While the menu without supplements is restricted, most people will find something to their liking for the basic 2 course or 3 course early bird price. As in most of these establishments, the wine is pricey unless you stick with the house wine which was quite palatable. Great value for a lovely restaurant and I'll definitely be back again.

First time eating here and thought it ws nice. The restaurant was a bit lifeless, I found myself whispering a lot. I had the sausage to start which was lovely and the sauce was so tasty. For my main course I had the pork which was also vey nice. The house white is lovely.

Went here for the Early Bird on a Monday, didn't realise the time and though it was 7.30, the manager was happy for us to still order off the early bird menu. I had the toulouse sausage starter, it was unusual in that I've never had bread and puree'd potatoes on the same plate, but it was pleasant. I went all out and had the sole meuinere for my main which had a surcharge. It was divine, heaven on a plate. The side of veg were crisp and tasty, I'd definitely go back!

Popped in at about 6pm, good deal on. Starter and mains extremely nice. Confit duck divine and fillet steak was very nice. interestingly they only cook rare, medium or well-done, I love medium rare but steak was lovely all in all.All wine 1/2 price on Mondays and Tuesdays. Fantastic had a bottle of french house red only 11 quid couldn't believe it. waiter displayed the seafod specials on a tray... nice touch.Atmosphere not great, service good and food is up there. Great table d'hote offer also.

We went here for an early bird and it was quite busy even though it was a Tuesday. The early bird menu seemed good value at first glance, with a wide selection of choices. However, on closer inspection we noticed that there were only about 4 choices at the early bird price as the rest all had supplements (some quite substantial). That said the food was good and the service was friendly.

I had heard a lot about this place and was looking forward to a chance to eat here. I got that opportunity and my partner and myself visited on a Thursday evening. The service is excellent and cannot be faulted and the attention to detail was superb. However I had the fillet steak and there needs to be an agreed standard in all restaurants as to what rare and medium mean. My steak to me was to me overcooked yet was very tender but both means were on the small side. We spent more money that we thought and this marked the restaurant down a bit, although I will be back

Like half of Dublin - the less well-heeled half I suppose, Les Freres had been on my wish-list for a while. Thanks to their early bird on Mon-Tues, which has 50% off full bottles of wine, I was able at to move it my hit-list and bring it into focus. The early-bird has 3 dishes in each course without supplement. 2 courses €18, 3 courses €23. Service is very professional, and they seemed to approve of our wine-choice, which was much agonised over. The fish cakes and poached egg starters were simple but well-carried off. I found the hake a tad over-done, and in line with other comments, the risotto served with it adds nothing to the dish, in terms of texture or flavour. But it's a pleasant way to drink great wine without the mark-up

I had been expecting a lot more Les Freres Jacques. I came here with a friend and apart from the awful piano music(!) and one or two things about the food, it was a good dining experience. The service was impeccable and I never once had to call a waiter for anything. I had fish cakes for starters (absolutely tiny) and the hake for mains (the riso pasta accompaniment was, in my opinion, not very nice at all, and far too heavy/rich for fish). My friend had the beef entrecote, which was just delicious. I particularly enjoyed that the waiter showed us what fish was on offer that night, it was of exquisite quality. I ordered from the Table D'Hote menu and although I ordered a tea and passed up on dessert, I was charged for the tea all the same (it's a small thing, but something to note). I found the service fantastic and would tip staff regardless of satisfaction with food, I still find a 12.5% service charge rather steep and quite bothersome, considering it was just a table of two. I might recommened Les Freres Jacques for a romantic meal, if money is no object, and if you are curious to find out for yourself what it's like. However, I have had better food and a more enjoyable dining experience in other restaurants.

I took my friend here for her birthday a few days ago. We were pleasantly surprised by the fact that it was quite full on a midweek night. Staff were very courteous and the service was impeccable. However, we found that the Table d'hote had too few choices on it. The wine offer is great, but the Meursault we hoped for was out of stock and the alternative suggested by the waiter was not that great.Overall very enjoyable and worth a return visit, but I have had better for less.

The early bird special along with half price wines on Mondays and Tuesdays makes it unbelievable value. The definite highlight was the starter of prawns & scallops - delicious! I wanted to give them the full five stars - but as is typical of all restaurants in Dublin my fillet of beef came out medium and not rare as I really tried to insist upon when ordering. But this is a minor and ongoing quibble that I have - I would 100% recommend this place!

I have wanted to try the food here for ages but heard it was expensive so when a friend wanted to meet up and told me there was an early bird I jumped at the chance. We were first to arrive and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more attentive. Before we ordered we were shown all the fish available to order. The problem was what to get as my mouth was watering at oysters, duck and kidneys. As there were three of us we managed to order all three between us for the starters. It is noted that for oysters (Rock or native) there is a supp. charge aswell as for some of the mains. However still very reasonable. The starters were amazing and we tasted each others and none disappointed, I loved the side of dressing for oysters. The lamb kidneys and the sauce were cooked to perfection as was the duck confit. For mains I went with the lamb shank, my friends the duo of lamb and fillet steak. All cooked to perfection and clean plates all round. If I was disappointed it was with the dessert and the selection.I love creme brulee but found the coffee flavoured creme brulee a bit too overpowering for me but my friend loved it. Service charge included but fantastic service and food, will definitely be back.

This is a fabulous place! Fantastic staff, tasty food and quiet place for normal conversations tht doesnt leave your throat sore or voice hoarse! Before I begin, it's expensive, but well worth every cent, especially after a horrible rotten long week. Staff are superb, atmosphere quiet! The duck confit for starters melted in my mouth! Sorry pple, I judge a place when I order the same dish so that it's fair when I make comments on whether to return to eat there. If it's good, of course I'll return!! There's where I'll get to try other dishes =) This restaurant serves unique seafood that is fresh and because of the varied choices offered, I was left wanting to try EVERYTHG! The combinations of sauces with the turbot was fantastic! My other friends ordered the fillet, it was so rich in flavor! French food tasted good here and it'll be good enough reason to return! Bon nuit

Merci beacuop!!Fine dining as it should be!!Had dinner with colleagues last night and we had our fair share of wine pairing with our courses of meal. There were 5 of at dinner. Most of us selected from the ala carte menu and must say they didnt disappoint.Unlike most posh restaurants that serve petite servings as a gimmick to drink more they gave reasonable portions.I had one of the best white wines there.French wine I must advocate though they did have a wine list from Australia.I had vol au ent pastry with scallop and prawn which was light and crispy on the batter and matched tastefully with a creamy sauce.Moving on,for mains I had monkfish with bolognaise sauce. To my surprise, they served complimentary sides like cauliflower gratin, potatoes and broccoli. My other mates ordered fish with chocolate sauce.I tend not to mix savoury with moreish but was told that it was up to mark.Service was most prompt however we were slightly raucous and probably the last of the troops to leave the restaurant. The waiters were most discreet when they flickered and flashed the lights. We took the q promptly!!

I've been hoping to try this restaurant for years but have always been put off by the prices. Thanks to the pre-theatre menu I finally got the chance and wasn't disappointed. My starter of blood sausage crostini with chocolate sauce was sublime and easily the best thing I've eaten all year. Mains of beef and a prune tartlet for dessert were good but paled in comparison to the starter. My partners starter of risotto and prawns was also delicious, with also good mains of venision and mille-feuille for dessert. Both appetisers emerged as our clear favourites, not just in taste but in inventiveness that others courses couldn't match. Service was faultless, unobtrusive but attentive and the room itself was classy, very simply decorated but comfortable and elegant.

This in my opinion is Dublin's finest french restaurant .Food never fails to deliver ,the wine 50% discount on certain nights allows you to sample finer more expensive wines often out of our reach. Lastly the staff have wonderful knowledge and a great sense of humour . 5*

I have become addicted to this place. My first visit was with my boss for a celebration meal. We were seated upstairs and had a lovely meal. More recently myself and my mum have it on our calendar at least once a month, sometimes more. Each time we go the staff are terrific and the food is so fresh it almost swims to your table. We are hoping to go again this weekend and yes it is a bit more expensive but you are being fed well, being looked after well and still in a city centre location so worth every cent.

I went here for a work lunch last week and even though I wasn't paying, I was shocked by the prices! I have been to most of Dublin's top restaurants and I really do not think that this one justifies its prices. The food was ok, but any food tastes good once you cook it with loads of butter. It seemed to me that every dish was literally swimming in butter. The french onion soup was disappointing because it didn't have any cheese on it. The sole was good but it had far too much butter for my liking, it had over an inch of butter on it and certainly not worth the price it cost. The desert was nice and the cheese board looked really good. The restaurant itself is lacking in atmosphere and the toilets are two floors down which is a pain after a lot of wine and water! I really doubt that I would return to this restaurant.

Went here for a special meal for my birthday and I have to admit it was a really lovley experiece, the staff make you feel very welcome. I was a little dissapointed with the food though. Firstly, although we went for the early bird if you want anything anyway fancy there is a suplement on top of the early bird price. I really didnt like my starter at all, however my main - whole sole - was delicious, I couldnt even eat half of it however and it felt like a huge waste, particularly in this current blah blah...We shared a desert which was delicious and the wine that the waiter helped us choose was perfect. All in all I enjoyed it, but I've had better elsewhere and dont think I'll be rushing back.

LFJ is a place to bring someone on a special occasion or when you want to impress them. The food is excellent here. The wine list extensive and there is something for everyone's price range. Watch out for the home-baked bread, you will want to eat lots of it, but you will find yourself stuffed before the starters come out. We went for an all fish meal (of which the menu is predominantly composed)and it was all perfect. Excellently cooked, fabulous presentation and rich flavours. The only little niggle was the length of delay for each course to appear. When the restaurant wasn't that busy, it could have been quicker, but the relaxed atmosphere made up for the wait. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

LFJ is one of my all time favourite Dublin restaurants; it offers beautiful, fresh food, great service and an excellent wine list. To top it all off, LFJ’s pre-theatre offers some of the best value in Dublin. Lately “offers” have sprung up everywhere, which is great but the quality of food/service is sometimes lacking; there is no such problem at LFJ. Admittedly, there is only a choice of three per course at the pre-theatre price (and the supplements for other choices are quite steep) but the food available is fantastic. My personal favourite is the cod- in fact I need to start ordering something else. I can also vouch for the lamb. And, just when you thing things can’t get any better- they offer 50% off all full bottles on wine on Mon/Tue! This means that you can either save the cents or try a bottle that your budget wouldn’t normally allow (I recommend the latter). Obviously, a big thumbs up from me.

We ate here for the Monday evening early bird with 50% off the wine also. Fantastic value for the quality of the food. Place was quiet initially but soon filled up. Really recommend it for the price, couldn't fault it at all. I'll definately be back

This is a lovely restaurant; from the moment you enter you know that it is out of the ordinary. There is a very definite French theme underlying everything, from the welcome to the ambience to the food itself. To eat here is to realise that the owners strive for excellence in the provision of Frence Cuisine, and spare no pains to achieve their aim. I had a Gazpacho, aubergine-based, to start - delicious! Lamb to follow was equally good, but the serving was less than I had expected. Previously I had Sole here, the "signature" dish of the house, and I was fully satisfied with it. Cheeseboard to finish was very, very good. The wine-list offers a wide range of wines, including a Pinot Noir d'Alsace. I always think that to offer a somewhat unusual (for Ireland anyway) wine shows readiness to push out the boundaries in the interest of providing a distinctive dining experience. And Les Freres Jacques succeeds in the attempt.

the pre-theatre menu is excellenat value.although you have to pay extra for some things there is still a very good choice without doing so and for a restaurant of this kind its excellant value for money.the waiters are very french and the atmosphere a little bit stuffy if you are heading out for a fun night on the tiles!a little bit of an older, wealthy crowd i felt.would def go back tho for the food though.

A group of us went here for the early bird. Great value for 18 euro. The waiters were so lovely and helpful. I had main course of pork belly which was very good & a desert. We were seated upstairs which was very nice, but next visit I think I would prefer to sit down stairs as it looked to have more atmosphere. This restaurant is worth a visit.

I love Les Freres Jacques. A little piece of France in the city centre, with professional French waiters and lots of chic. The food is excellent. We went there for a very special birthday dinner and were not disappointed. The lamb was cooked exactly as requested - medium rare - beautifully presented. Fish de-boned as requested, served with lemon in a piece of muslin. We asked for a half bottle of wine but were advised that, as full bottles were half-price, why not avail of the offer and take home any that we didn't drink - we drank the full bottle! The pre-theatre, early bird menu is excellent value. My favourite restaurant!

I've always wanted to try this place after walking by it so many times. After seeing the early bird offer of €18 for two courses I decided to give it a go. A friend and I went after work. The downstairs dining room is casually elegant and comfortable enough. The choices on the early bird are quite limited, with some extra options for additional cost. I had the iceberg wedge with blue cheese dressing and my friend had the chicken carpaccio. Both were excellent. I wasn't overly excited about my choice but ended up really enjoying it. Being a seafood restaurant, we both had the Seafood of the day. It was ok and nicely prepared but nothing too special. Since our meals were only €18 a piece we decided to splurge a bit on the wine and chose a Red Sancerre for €40. It was perfect and worth every penny! Service charge is included and with one espresso the bill came to €88. I enjoyed the diningroom and the service but wasn't wowed by my food as much as I hoped to be but I think that has to do with the limited early bird options. I definetly will go back on a night that I can splurge

I came here on Saturday with visiting family who wanted to bring myself and my partner out to somewhere special. We had been here before and really enjoyed it so we decided that Les Freres Jacques would be a great choice for the occasion. We were all delighted with the food and service that we received and had a brilliant evening.

I arrived well before my friend this evening and was made to feel really welcome and attended to - not a moment of discomfort. Food was delicious, service was impeccable - seem to remember speaking french at several points in the evening although it's not compulsory! This is professional but friendly to perfection, I can't imagine anyone ever having a bad experience. Get dressed up but relax, its not pretentious. The menu and wine offer on Monday / Tuesday also make this really affordable, a real treat.

I went here on a first date with my girlfriend. The food was fantastic, the service was great. The fish was brought out at the start before you choose your dinner to show the freshness of it. Each dish was explained to us my the waiter. The food also matched such wonderful service. It was excellent. I will be returning again.

We brought my parents to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. We had read great reviews of this restaurant and were certainly not disappointed with the food. The seven of us enjoyed a variety of the dishes on the a la carte menu - all of which were sublime. It would definitely be a place to visit for a special celebration. Our only gripe was the service in relation to the drinks. The waiters were not keeping an eye on the wine glasses. This was not a problem for the people drinking red as this bottle was left on the table, however the white wine was left on the opposite side of the room. In addition we had to ask on three separate occasions for water to be brought to the table before it actually arrived. Two irish coffees were ordered at the end of the meal and after 20 minutes of waiting we gave up and asked for the bill. I don't feel this level of service is acceptable when an automatic 12.5% service charge was placed on the bill. It would not put me off returning to the restaurant as the food was excellent but I'd like to see an improvement in the service.

We have been to les Freres Jacques a number of times and we had yet another lovely meal last weekend. The staff are very friendly and efficient. From the lovely fresh bread at the start to the fabulous chocolate fondant at the end , all six of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The scallop and prawn starter and the black sole were highlights. Portions are also very generous. We all ate from the a la carte, which is actually quite expensive, but the table d'hote which offers 4 courses for €38 is very good value.Even in these recessionary times, it is worth saving up for a visit.

Myself and my girlfriend went here for valentines night and were very impressed with the restaurant in general, Food was excellent and staff very professional, a truly french experience. Only gripe is that we were seated at the top of the stairs and it was very busy that night, also the tables were on top of one another but over all a very enjoyable evening

Good food but overall experience negative. We asked for a window seat for a 7pm sitting and were told this would not be possible as those seats were to sit 4 and we were a couple. We were assured the best seat available. When we arrived we were put in a pleasant corner seat. However, the next people to arrive were placed right beside us. For the entirety of our meal there were three tables occupied in the entire upstairs section and we were an elbow away from one of the other two tables. I raised the issue with the manager/owner on leaving (I would have raised it at the start but assumed the room was fully booked and hence the need to squash us in together). The response was unhelpful. Apparently he could have moved us to another table beside the one we were seated at. I queried the fact that the rest of the large room was vacant but he explained this was for the second sitting. We had left before any of these second seatings had arrived. I had been to Freres Jacques before and my partner and I had chosen this for a special occasion. Unfortunately we were let down this time and for reasons that seemed to be entirely preventable i.e. just make sensible use of the lovely upstairs dining room.

Came here for lunch with my girlfriend recently to enjoy the Lunch Special (2 courses for €18). My first time to the restaurant, we were both delighted with it! The food was superb - I had a salmon starter with haddock in seaweed (sort of like sushi), came with a wasabi sauce, really delicious. For main course, the herb crusted cod was equally as good as the starter, cooked to perfection. The staff were very helpful and friendly, will definitely be returning - the lunch was quiet and people were dressed quite casually, very relaxing.

Had high expectations for this acclaimed restaurant. Ordered from the set menu which was singificantly better value than the a la carte while still pricey. Food was exquisite but very much in the style of 'fine dining.' Service from the all-french staff was excellent. Atmosphere was very sterile though and in now way intimate.

It was perfect for our valentine's celebration... the room was intimate, service impeccable and the food was memborable. I loved my black sole and the chocolate fondant, even the petits four were splendid. There is obvious team work in this establishment: when our desired claret was not available in the listed year alternatives were proferred, in addition we were given complementary pudding wine and even the owner came to offer his personal apologies. With this kind of attention, Freres Jacques is the kind of place where you wish you could afford to be a regular.

I know this restaurant has a great reputation but I wasn't impressed when myself and my husband visited last Saturday. First off our table was squashed up beside a rowdy table of eight. My husband loved his food but because I asked for my duck well done it came out dry. The waiting staff are lovely but too overbearing, I went to pick up our bottle of champagne to pour but I was practically pounced on by a waiter who wasn't even our server. I like to eat in peace so people hanging around over my shoulder is not my idea of peaceful. Also I found this restaurant very clique'y if they haven't seen you before your practically ignored.

Visited here with a friend to celebrate a birthday. Whilst at first I was a little on edge (I wore runners and felt a little hobo) but in no time I relaxed. Service was amazing. I had the celery broth and platter of meats and fish. I thought the portions looked small but it turned out they were desceptively large! The food was amazing and I was completely full by the end of my courses. My friend had duck to start and monkfish for mains. Whilst he thoroughly enjoyed the batter on the monkfish, I thought it was too sweet. We drank the Mas Compostelle red wine. Thoroughly enjoyed three courses, coffee and a bottle of wine for 165 euro. I have booked to return with my boyfriend next month as I enjoyed it so much.

Had wanted to go to this restaurant for ages, so for a special occasion we went with friends & was so disappointed. We were put at a very small table for 6 so for a start we were squashed into together. The starters were the best overall but that's not saying alot. The fish plates were overcooked with no taste & the desserts were terrible. The cheese platter had jakobs crackers! For a restaurant that is meant to have such a good name & specialise in seafood & for the price they charge it was extremely disappointing

I have been going to Les Freres Jacques since it opened in 1986 and when I want to enjoy good food in a professional and friendly atmosphere without having to worry about it, this is where I go. The chefs have come and gone but the patron and his staff provide continuity, professionalism and a friendly welcome - especially good for business entertainment but equally satisfying for a lunch with friends or an evening treat 'a deux'. The table d'hote is extremely good value, especially in conjunction wuth the 50% off winelist on Mondays and Tuesdays, but be warned that if you venture onto the carte you're in danger of credit card meltdown. Having said that, the occasional foray is well worth it.

I could not resist anymore. I wanted to try this restaurant. We went on a Tuesday to get the offer of 50% discount on bottles of wine, which is a very good deal. The service level is really high, even though if you are not used to waiters coming to your table and saying every 25 seconds "bon appetiit", the service might result a bit "too much". THe atmosphere is lovely. The food was really good. I took a confit duck leg which was great and a Roast Rack Of Lamb that was tasty, delicate, well cooked and well presented.Hmmm. Really good food. the dessert was not great. It tool quite long to prepare it, they bake it on request, and even though it looked really fancy, it was a bit too dry. we ended up paying 100 euros each, and it was a night with 50% discount on bottles of wine and we did not order seafood or lobster or champagne. Still I would reccomend it if you want to impress your guest and if you want to treat yourself.

Having been on a bit of a lunch time trawl these past few months we decided to try Les Frere last Friday lunch time. My first time here and I really enjoyed it. It offers elegance which is not obvious from its location and it was peaceful and quiet. The service was fantastic and the prices were very sympathetic. We were shown a selection of fish in order to aid selection for the menage a trois which herself ordered and enjoyed. I had the artichoke soup which danced on my tastebuds and was sublime. I then had the lamb shank which was equally delicious with an accompaniment of potatoes which brought me back to a simpler time at my mother's knee. The Pernod ice cream had too much Pernod ut this did not bother me as much as the abysmal coffess we were served. Why would a French restaurant serve Italian coffee? I deducted accordingly for this and for the 12.5% service charge which the sneaked onto the bill at the end. It didnt quite spoil the experience, though. I will be back again.

On a wet and windy Dublin day we took refuge in Les Freres Jacques and were glad we did. Lunch special set menu is 18 Euro for 2 coarses and 23 for 3. I ate plentifully on a menage a toi of amazingly fresh fish while himself partook of the lamb. We left not a morsel on our plates. The soup was a step above the expected and the dessert was plentiful and delectable enough to share. The bread basket was replenished several times. This is a romantic nook in the madness that is down town Dublin and the evening menu is already calling our name. The only blemish on what was a perfect lunch was the cutlery for my place setting of which the fork was clearly not clean with baked food on it. I quietly brought it to the waiter's attention and he removed and replenished the cutlery but did not even say sorry madam. Quelle Dimache. Having said that anyone can have an off day and we cannot wait to return. Lesson to the tempted. The wait staff are all French so if you want to practise your expertise en francais, this would be the very place to do so.

I brought my husband here on Saturday night for his birthday. I had wanted to try this restaurant for years and am delighted that I have. What a treasure. The restaurant is nice and intimate and feels a million miles away from the hustle of Dame St. The service was fantastic. We were really looked after from the minute we walked in. Staff were friendly and attentive. Amuse bouche - delicious salmi roled up stuffed with cream cheese and spring onion - tasted amazing. Husband went for the set menu - artichoke soup then a duck canneloni - really tasty - and unusual! He then had a trio of fish accompanied with veg. I had the poached aspargus with lobster creme fraiche - divine, followed by medallions of fillet beef cooked to perfection. One of the nicest steaks I have ever eaten. We finished off with the cheese board and were able to pick around 8 different cheeses after having a mini presentation of where each came from. Our meals were washed down with a fine red. The price of the food reflects the fine quality and the service was superb. They also have excellent offers for lunch during the week. I will definitely be back!!

Food is amazing, probably the best French fare I have had in Dublin. The service is great, friendly and unobtrusive. Little pricey but definitely worth it for the quality.

Les Freres is in a good location in the city centre. The place really gives you that French-ness to it. As far as I know, most of the waiters there were French. They definitely provide good service and recommendations on their dishes. However as we all know, French cuisine serve small portions. So you're looking to be stuffed, you better bring more cash. Overall a good experience.

French cuisine at its finest. Simple, fresh seafood perfectly cooked. The service is attentive - yet not in your face. The oysters are a must.Truly a delightful experience and quite possibly the nicest restaurant in Dublin.

We had a truly fabulous meal there last week. The food is outstanding and I liked the fact that the waiter came over to the table with a platter of the fresh fish available that day. I particularly enjoyed the beetroot gazpacho with blue cheese, very unusual! The staff were very attentive and yet not too formal. Every aspect of this meal was excellent, we were not rushed betwen courses and although the meal wasn't cheap we spent 3 hours in the restaurant so all told I feel it was value for money.

This has to be my favourite restaurant in Dublin. Understated and a real gem in the city centre. I discovered it a few years ago and certainly has never disappointed time and time again! I LOVE the starter fois gras..so hard to find a restaurant that serves a decent chunk of pan fried fois gras in this city. They also know how to cook a steak "medium rare" as ordered unlike so many other places where it almost certainly comes out well done. The waiters always go through the specials with a tray of fresh live seafood before you order. Real old school charm. Highly recommended restaurant.

Ate here with a group on a Thursday evening. Was excellent from start to finish. Service excellent, top notch but not pompous. Typical French cuisine. Food excellent, the lamb for mains was divine. Would rate this as one of my top 5 restaurants.

My wife booked this for a birthday dinner, so we had fingers and toes crossed. Ratherr unassuming from the outside and when you first arrive, but don't be fooled. Typical French wait service - impeccable, but not over-friendly, which I think helps to create that authentic French atmosphere. Food was absolutely brilliant - i'll go so far as to say the best I've had in the city! Portions are healthy. I marked down the service slightly as our waiter made a mess of opening the wine, which had to be rescued by another waiter. Defintely will be coming back.

Wow is all I can say. The legal term finished up on a Thursday and 8 of us went here for the table d'hote lunch for €18/23 for a 2 or 3 course meal. This is without a doubt the best value lunch I have ever eaten in Dublin! I had a tatin to start and the guinea fowl for my main both were cooked to perfection. The service was just right not overdone but every time you needed anything they were there to get it for you. All I can say is this is one of the best restaurants in Dublin by a mile.

I recently organised a small celebration here for my mam's 6oth birthday. from the moment we stepped inside this lovely restaurant i knew i had picked the right venue for a special occasion. The staff were really friendly, the food delicious and the atmosphere really warm and welcoming. We booked an early table but we stayed chatting and haveing drinks all night without any problem. I had ordered a birthday cake whcih was brought to the table while the pianist played happy birthday on the piano. Everyone agreed it was a superb evening and i cannot recommend Les Freres Jacques enough.

I'd a fantastic lunch in Les Freres Jacques last month, which really represented exceptional value. The service was impeccable and not at all stuffy; the entire group was made to feel very welcome. The food was very good and the sea-food was as fresh as it could possibly be.

This is my favourite restaurant in Dublin. I've been there a couple of times. It is always brilliant. Fabulous monkfish last time. But my favourite part about the place is the staff...and the whole atmosphere they create. Excellent service but totally unpretentious and relaxed (unlike a lot of other Dublin fine dining restaurants!!!). Professional, yet amusing.

I went here on a business dinner with 6 other people. I'm a vegetarian so was a little worried that I wouldn't get much but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a blue cheese soup to start which was yummy and then asparagus, courgette with extra veg and potato gratin for my main it was very tasty. Most of my companions had the Scallops to start they all loved them and for mains they had Sole. Everyone loved the meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Oh and desserts were scrumptious!

What can I say, this restaurant is one of the best French restaurants in city centre. Have no fault with it. If I brought my boyfriend's French mother, she would have a heart attack with the price of the food, but it would be well worth it for quality French food.

Have eaten here twice and really enjoyed it. Food is wonderful, staff are great and it's good value for money when you are getting top rate cuisine. Not at all pretentious for a French restaurant which I appreciated. You can see a lot of return customers, always a good sign. Will definitly go back again.

I love Les Freres Jacques. I try to eat here once at least once month. And I have never had a bad meal or bad service. The staff are very friendly and professional. The wine is always served at a perfect temperature and the wine list is very extensive - a choice for everyone. And for the food - you can just not fault it. Every dish I've had has been cooked to perfection. French food at it's best! I recommend this restaurant to everyone. It is great for a afternoon lunch, to a romantic dinner to night out with friends. My only problem with the place is that it is not nearer where I live!!!

Had a lovely meal here. Food, service, wine, everything was fantastic. Only thing is im a vegetarian and there is nothing on menu for veggies. Boyf was trying to be romantic, and this place was recommended to him, he obv didnt look at the menu before booking. Anyway in spite of that, they rustled up something for me, and we both had a great night. Definitely a place for couples or special occasions, very very French and very very good. more for slightly older people, as its quite fancy but not imtimdating at all. Lovely place..

I was here with the hubbie for a special birthday meal last night. It's my second time here and i have to say it didn't disappoint this time either. Food and service all excellent. We are fish lovers so plenty of choice. Foie Gras and scallop and prawn starters delicious ! I had the sole for my main - just melt in the mouth ! My husband had the monkfish which was really yum too. There is 50% off whole bottles of wine on a Monday and Tuesday - so you can really splash out ! Can't wait to go again !

A wonderful restaurant. The food is mouth watering, the service impeccable. An expensive restaurant but, unlike many other Dublin restuarants, you really do get what you pay for. I went for a family lunch to Les Freres Jacques and was not one bit disappointed. The salmon was the best I have ever tasted and the Creme Brulee was perfect. Recommended!

I love this place! My boyfriend and I tried it first on Bastille Day (I am half French and have to celebrate) and it was fantastic!!! The service was wonderful, our waiters were amazing and very helpful when asked about items on the menu. We have since been back a few times, and now I am taking my French Mother who is visiting this week! She is gonna love it!

I've been here for a few corporate lunches. As long as you're not going to discuss anything very confidential (as the tables are on top of one another) you'll have a very enjoyable traditional French meal - seafood is good, staff have been there for years and are very attentive.

This place has a lovely atmosphere - very romantic. And the waiters were very friendly. The food was great. I had a delicious lobster salad to start and perfectly cooked duck for main. One complaint - my boyfriend ordered the steak, which at €32 was the size of my fist and very thin! He definitely won't be going back! But I would recommend it for couples - just stay away from the steak!

Came here to dinner with my partner and two of our friends. It’s such a lovely restaurant with a real romantic feel to it. Myself and my friend ordered our meals of the set menu, which was great value for money. And my partner and friend went for the a la carte. I had the chorizo salad, which was very nice and then went for the cod, which was a little bland; it was the only thing I was disappointed with for the night. The staff were lovely and we all had a great meal. The value was good but it did help that two of us went for the set menu otherwise it would be somewhere you would go for a very special occasion.

I’ve eaten in Les Freres Jacques once with my girlfriend. I reluctantly went in thinking that there wouldn't be any thing I’d fancy on the menu as I’m a fussy eater and I’ve never ate French before. My first surprise was when I saw the prices. Second surprise was when I realised that the food was worth every penny. Everything was perfect and was definitely the best food I’ve had around Dublin. Perfect for a romantic meal ideal for special occasions, anniversaries etc.. Can’t fault this restaurant

I went here with my boyfriend on a date. By far the best French food in Dublin, maybe even the best restaurant I've eaten at in Dublin. I would highly recommend the veal and cheese selection. The wine list is also fabulous. Even though it is a bit pricey, the food is well worth it!!

I went here with my girlfriend completely by accident. We were out in town and walked in without a booking, but am I glad I did so. The food here is supreme this is without a doubt the finest Irish restaurant I've ever graced. The menu is a little of the more expensive side but you get what you pay for. I can highly recommend the monkfish stuffed with crab meat it was fantastic, and my girlfriend had the lobster which was also cooked perfectly. Also if you want to get somebody a birthday or crimbo present and have no idea what to get they do gift certs for the restaurant as well. It certainly sorted some of my pressies out. Service was ok but not spectacular, but I may well have expected too much given all other aspects of this place.

This is possibly the finest French Restaurants that Dublin has to offer. I eat here as often as I can as all the staff a friendly and knowledgeable. The wine list is a dream. The food is orgasmic. The highlight of the meal is when the manager (Sylvain) presents the fish tray he is funny and very charming. I would recommend Les Freres Jacques to all. It is truly an experience.

This is definitely a fantastic restaurant. Not in the nicest of locations and very deceptive from the outside, as the interior is spacious and private. If you can, definitely request a table upstairs, as it is far better. The food is simply fabulous. The menu is great and the wine list is a French wine lover’s heaven! The service is good, but honestly it felt arrogant, especially when our waited seemed unimpressed when we ordered the house wine as our second bottle. So much so that he didn’t even offer to let us taste it before pouring!! Despite this fact, I would definitely go back, but you better start saving, as our meal for 2 came to ˆ180 before tip!! For special occasions only...

This is the place for a date. It is very romantic and filled with a French atmosphere- French waiters, French chefs, French food, French music, French wine. The food is delicious and the service is very good although they are beginning to border between great/friendly service and that French arrogance that trys to make you feel inferior. Other then this, everything is simply sweet and romantic (although the toilets could do with a face-lift and watch out on the stairs when you have had a few)! There is a hefty price tag though as our meal came to ˆ190 for just two people.
