On a cold Sunday evening facing into a long week in work, I fancied some Italian food so I persuaded my husband and a friend of ours to go along here for their Early Bird. We rang ahead and enquired about the early bird and availability and they said no problem. We arrived and we were just given the normal menus, so when we asked for early bird menus there was a distinct and obvious tone of annoyance, to be shortly followed by a spiel that the early bird menu had ben redone on Friday and wasn't going to be available until Monday. perfectly acceptable but not a great tone and no suggestion of an alternative solution - bizarre. Anyhoo, the food. We ordered baby squid, mixed bruschetta and a tomato one. All very good except the mixed brushetta which came with a very raw garlic option and also 6 pieces of bread - a lot for a starter. Ordered the gnocchi, seafood linguine and the caprese salad for mains - all very, very tasty. Its true what other reviewers have said - the menu is limited but the raw ingredients are excellent. We just ordered a 1/2ltr of the house red which is perfectly acceptable red wine that you'd get in a lot of restaurants in Italy or France as part of your set menu. I would visit again but just FYI if you are planning on going for the early bird maybe get solid confirmation over the phone that the menu exists and is being offered on the evening you are booking for. All in all a great experience and not bad value.

Good Italian in the centre of Temple Bar....house wine is lovely and fairly priced...the fish is excellent....a real Italian restaurant....just a note that the mains come without poatoes or vegtables so you have to pay for sides....does not serve chips which I don't mind...deserts could do with some work ...overall not bad at all hoever a little pricey

My first time trying here and I am so glad I did.The service was very good most friendly indeed. For starters I had a minestrone soup. My sister had a baby squid salad whilst the third person in our party chose a starter of olives. For mains I had a perfectly cooked fillet steak. My sister had a pasta dish and our friend had sea bass. We declined deserts as we were rushing to a world premier. We all loved our food. The atmosphere was great in this beautiful establishment. Another touch I liked was the hand written bill. Based on todays visit I will return very soon and I would highly recommend Il Baccaro.

This is a little gem of a restaurant in Temple Bar. It's a small intimate place, divide into two parts. The first part, as one enters the restaurant, was quite busy, and we were offered the choice of either a table there, or in the other part. We opted for the other part, it was quiet - in fact we had it to ourselves. Service was very good and there was a lovely 'feel' to the place. Don't know anything about its history, but seems that it might have been a wine vault at some stage. The Pan Fried Chicken Breast was an absolutely deliciously succulent meal that came with roast potatoes. Had a nice bottle of red wine to compliment our meal and, not able to face dessert, finished off the evening with two coffees. Then along came the waiter with two Grappas on the house - very nice touch. We'll be back.

This is a lovely restaurant hidden in the heart of Temple Bar. On first glance, the menu doesn't seem that exciting, but it's the quality of the food that's offered and not an exhaustive list of different dishes, that matters. The Bruschetta starter was deliciously refreshing and light, served on crusty warm bread. I had the Italian style pork for mains and was served up three large, thick slices of pork in a mouth-watering sauce. Didn't think I'd finish it as the portion was so huge, but eventually managed to clean the plate. A side salad order had enough for two people. Service was very prompt and courteous. This is the best Italian meal I've had in the city centre in years - it's authentic Italian fare, and not a sign of chips on the menu - great! Will definitely go back again.

Visited here amidst all the snow and chaos! We were seated just inside the door, so felt a little chill each time the door was opened, but the restaurant was well heated, so it was OK. The portions were very large, we felt that tow starters between the three of us would have been enough. We each had chicken dishes for mains and again the portions were very big. Very tasty. The service was very good and we were not rushed between courses. We ended up not having dessert but again we were not rushed into making our minds up. Would definitely come again.

Went here for dinner on a Wednesday evening. The place was nearly empty unfortunately, but what a lovely spot! Very warm and cozy. The menu is different than what is mentioned here on menupages plus on their website. It was quite small unfortunately. We shared a platter of different meat/ cheese. Very tasty. Then I had Seabream as a main which was delicious. Service was very good. We even got a complimentary glass of Grappa – very nice gesture.

I was very happy with this restaurant. The menu was authentic with primi and secondi courses. We didn't quite trust it so we ended up ordering much more food than we needed. Each of the courses were tasty, I had the Bresaola for a starter and the Farfalle Al Salmone Affumicato (salmon in a vodka sauce pasta) for my primi. I ordered the salad for my secondi and was unable to finish it. I have never seen a salad so large. My partner had the steak for his secondi which was perfectly cooked. Overall the portion sizes were large and the food was delicious. They also had authentic lemoncello apertifs which I have not seen outside of Italy, and a lot of Italian customers. The staff were very friendly. After the meal they brought us the wrong bill by accident. We corrected them and they gave us a free apertif each for the mistake. We hadn't expected this nor had we been upset by the incorrect bill so this was a nice touch. I would definitely go here again, but I'd skip the starter because it was just too much food!

Great setting! I hadn't been there in ages so decided last Friday to celebrate a friends birthday there. Food is still lovely and they now offer their house wine for 17.50 Euro. So value for money has definitely increased in this place! Service staff is nice, although they never came back to ask us for a desert order...it was pretty late though. Nice Vegetarian meals on offer.

Finally an Italian restaurant deserving of its name. For starters their bread is not the usual soft roll but proper oil bread. One of the very, very few genuine Italian restaurants in Dublin.

This is one of those restaurants I’ve walked past countless times over the years and never tried, recently after a movie in the IFI we stopped in and it was a real revelation. It is situated on meeting house square and from the minute you walk in the door it has an authentic continental feeling. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. We had the Farfalle Al Salmone which was farafalle pasta with salmon in a cream sauce, which was absolutely delicious and the Risotto Ai Funghi, the Risotto was cooked to perfection unlike a lot of restaurants where the rice in undercooked. Both dishes were the best Italian cooking I’ve had in Dublin for quite a while. We finished with a huge portion of tiramisu and some excellent coffees. There is a nice cosy atmosphere about here and the food is reasonably priced considering the high standard. I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

We went here for a Valentine's weekend meal and were not impressed. We arrived to a cosy restaurant filled with Italian customers and staff - good sign. We waited for 20 minutes to see a menu and had to ask twice for one. Service was as slow for the rest of the night, the staff just didnt seem interested in us at all and just spent their time speaking to the Italian customers - us outsiders obviously werent worth their while. We were also laughed at rudely when declined black peper which was 'recommended if eating italian'. I ordered steak and wanted the potatoes with rosemary to go with it but they had finished with them by this time (9pm), so had to do with a big slab of meat for dinner with no side! Other food was fine but very expensive for what it was. Will certainly not return.

great restaurant - very authentic italian - with friendly (and good looking) italian staff and great atmosphere. the open brick work and low ceilings make it a cosy intimate space. I had bruschetta, pork with muchroom sauce and side dishes of rosemary & garlic roasted new potatoes and french beans in garlic and tomato. It was all fabulous - the brocoli in garlic & chili was a bit over done, but overall the food was really tasty and the wine was very good. They've a reasonably priced but very short wine list. The tiramisu was a delight - light, fluffy and loads of coffee flavour. This was my third visit and I'll definitely be back.

I went there for dinner last Saturday night. In spite of the busy night the service was excellent. It's a real Italian restaurant (NO chicken and cream carbonara and NO traditional beef lasagna!) where the menu is organized the Italian way (antipasti, primi, secondi). The food is also the one you would find in a good Italian trattoria. The first course was the best part of my meal. I had pappardelle (a kind of tagliatelle, but thicker) with venison ragú: delicious. The restaurant offers good quality food for very reasonable prices and it's definitely run by someone who knows what proper Italian food is and doesn't like to compromise just to please the locals. I would definitely go back.

I went here for dinner on a friday night. The atmosphere was lovely but the service was very slow. The food was ok but i wouldn't rave about it.I had the pork and it was a bit dry and generally not very interesting. My friend got the steak and it looked nice and was a good sized portion. It's a pity they don't do smaller primi dishes so you could have the full italian experience including the pasta course. It was a bit overpriced for what we got

I went here on a Saturday night with a group of people. It was ok, took quite a while to bring menu's, take orders, etc but that could have been because we were a large group i suppose. The food was nice...not anything to rave about. I had the bruschetta which was nicer than the last time i'd had it there (when it was almost inedible). I also had a very nice pasta dish, though when i asked if i could have a taglieteli instead of penne pasta the waiter almost laughed in my face....i was quite embarrased, as most restaurants have no problem doing this! Anyway it was nice pasta, though quite a small portion. My friends ordered gnocchi which was gorgeous but too filling to finish. The desserts were lovely...but they forgot to bring 2 of them...after 20 minutes they brought one and we told them to just forget the last dessert as we were sick of waiting. All in all it was...ok.

I have to say that I was not impressed with this place at all. The food was freezing when it arrived and very overpriced. The rocket salad was just that, pieces of rocket, no dressing or anything, the setting of the restaurant is very cramped and the staff seem to just want to get dealing with you over and done with. I would not be in a hurry to go back here

Went here last Friday and had a lovely meal. The staff were very good and the standard of the food was excellent. The restaurant has a great atmosphere especially for couples. Would have no problems recommending it as a place to eat, drink or while away a couple of hours. One small complaint, we were waiting quite a while before we received menus, water etc.. at the start of the evening, but they were busy and we were in no hurry........

Please do not go here. My boyfriend and I went here on Friday night and did not enjoy our overpriced meal at all. When the waiter came to take away our plates and asked us if we enjoyed our food, I told him that we had not and the waiter started laughing! I make a better bruschetta myself and the spinach and feta cheese canelloni was like something from a ready made meal from Tesco.

This is a great little place, it is in a vault like setting in Meeting House Square Temple Bar. However, there is plenty of light coming in so it never feels claustraphobic. It is such an authentic italian experience. You really feel cooconed in this restaurant. I often meet friends here for a bruschetta and a glass of wine, fabulous place.

Went here with a very large group of people one Saturday. The setting is lovely and would be romantic on a less packed evening. But as far as I am concerned "stuffed peppers" for a main dish should consist of more than one pepper. If the menu had omitted the s I would've ordered a side dish. The food is alright but mostly nothing better than I could do myself at home and while it is cheap enough it is still more expensive than it should be. For such a large group the service remained good however.

This is a great restaurant and I love that they change their menu regularly. It shows that they are using seasonal produce. The food is always excellent, I love the Bresaola, always perfect. The menu is varied and I always have difficulty choosing. The service is good but a little erratic if the place is busy, they work hard. I love bring friends here and now its not unusual to meet them there ?

I adore this restaurant! The food is amazing, we booked for 8pm and we stayed the whole night relaxing eating & drinking! the waiters are friendly and chatty, the prices are great! I will always be one to return here! If you go try their lemoncelli liqeur for dessert, its so so tasty. The only thing I would say is the menu on "menupages" does not actually match the current menu. I stupidly picked what I wanted before hand and then was dissapointed when I found it was not on the menu! (but not disspointed in the food I chose in the end!). This place is a must!!

I couldn't fault Il Baccaro. I went with three girlfriends for a birthday night out and we had a ball in this restaurant. The atmosphere is really relaxed yet lively. The food was really delicious and so reasonably priced. The staff were lovely and really paid special attention to the birthday girl which was nice. The live music adds a real sense of authentic Italy.

I ate here in friday night with my boyfriend before we attended a gig. I had heard great reviews about the restaurant before booking so I was really looking forward to it. I have to say it is a lovely authentic restaurant but the menu leaves a lot to be desired. I eat out quite regularly and I have never encountered a menu where I was stuck to pick a main course. There was no chicken and no regular fish or pasta dishes on the menu which is strange for an italian restaurant. The choices they did have were quite unusual and very pricey compared to other italian restaurants. I chose a vegetarian dish which was rather tasty but left me feeling a little dissapointed. I will not be returning unless the menu improves.

I ate at Il Baccarro (with Gigi below!) last week and had the turkey for main course. It was quite dry and I wasn't very impressed by that part of the meal. The starters were generous and tasty and having spoken to other friends who have eaten here we reckon the best thing is to have a few starters to share and skip the main. Ten out of ten for atmosphere though, I would definitely go back for this alone.

This is a nice, reasonably priced restaurant. The food is good but not amazing but the surroundings are lovely. I had the squid and, although it was ok, it wasn't especially hot so it had gone a bit rubbery. It would have been much nicer if it had been served fresh from the pan.

went here a couple of weeks ago with a group of friends. I found the menu really unusual for an Italian - mainly because there was no pizza on it but also there were very few pasta dishes so I had to go away from what i would usually order in an Italian restaurant. i had the prawns for starters and they were divine! for the main course i had the stuffed squid which was amazing as well. I had a side salad but i think it would have been nicer if i ordered a side of potatoes. I shared a desert which was also amazing. the restaurant was not cheap but it was very resaonable for the quality of the food. I will definatly go back here and i will recomend it to a friend.

Situated in a cosy little cellar in a corner. Very very cool. We booked half the restaurant for a birthday celebration and the food came more or less at the same time, which was great. The appetizers were tasty, but the stuffed squid main course was not very filling. They also forgot the courgettes on the linguini vongole I ordered. The squid ink risotto is also only average. The coffee, however, is from good quality italian beans. Nice ambience and good service, but I'm not sure that it's the best/ most authentic italian food in Dublin.

Very atuthentique Italian restaurant. I shared the Parma ham to start and it was delicious. I followed that with a ravioli stuffed with cep mushrooms with a tomato-based sauce - it didn't look great but tasted wonderful. All of our group seemed pleased with their food and the desserts were to die for. The staff were very friendly and efficient, but not in your face all the time - just right. I'll definitely be back.

Authentic Italian (virtually all the people eating here are Italian) with a great ambience, situated as it is in a cellar/cave! If booking ask for the main room (with the dome shaped roof) as the other tables are near the loos and not that great. The food is gorgeous. We've never had a bad meal here and we've eaten here quite a bit. A real find.

A little bit of Itlay right here in Dublin. Sausage and beans dish a huge protion of porchetta for main - so yummy. Vino santo and biscuits for dessert, it doesnt get much better than this. Lovely atmosphere too!!

Dined here recently on a Friday night with my girlfriend. We had been recommended this restaurant by a friend, and it didn't let us down! The food was really enjoyable and the service was efficient and discreet. We both also felt that it was very good value for money...

I have been here a few times now and have never been dissapointed. Even though they are an Italian restaurant they do not do Pizza, so if that is what you are looking for this place is not for you. It is a lovely little restaurant tucked away in a quaint little corner. Lovely atmosphere, and staff are very friendly. Definitely recommended.

A group of us went there after work, and all were impressed. We shared starters, which worked out very well, and the staff kindly ensured that portion sizes were suitable for sharing. Mains all were well received, and all of us were impressed with the flavours, portion sizes and yumminess of it all, including one Italican guest who assured us all of the authenticity. Atmosphere is nice and relaxed, staff are friendly & helpful. Will go back.

my bruschetta al pomodoro to start was one of the best i have ever eaten. Two of us ordered Orecchiette con Salsicce e Brocoli, a pasta dish with italian sausage, brocolli and sundried tomatoes, for our main courses. We were both thrilled with it,it was really really tasty. Our other friend who is veggie was a bit disappointed with the range of vegetarian options but really enjoyed her Putanesca Pasta. The staff were great and didnt hurry us out-we lingered there for 3 hrs!we're looking forward to returning for more authentic italian cooking

We went early on a Wednesday evening so the atmosphere wasn't great. But that's understandable. We shared the starter which was a selection of Italian meats and cheeses. Quite good. I had the sausage and broccoli pasta dish which was quite disappointing. The sausage looked quite bland and the sauce was watery. More like stock water than a sauce. Wife had the roman pork dish which was good. I thought the wine was quite expensive. We had a quarter bottle of wine which was not cheap! Nice setting and location, but I wouldn't bother coming here again. Also we were overcharged initially (1 extra dish we didn't order), but luckily I spotted the mistake.

This was the fourth time I ate at Il Baccaro and I have to say I was particularly impressed this time. I had the tomato bruscetta (sp?) to start, very fresh and tasty. And a very big portion! For a main I had a mushroom filled ravioli-like pasta (except bigger) with a creamy tomato sauce. The pasta was absolutely excellent. Very very strong mushroom flavour, I really enjoyed it. Guitar player added to general ambiance. A very enjoyable experience!

I ate here on a Sunday afternoon although it was between times 3/4pm, there was still a nice atmosphere and a few tables in. Anti pasta is fantastic, we shared speck risotto for mains. Food was very good even though it was a little salty, but this is to be expected with Italian food. Service was quite slack as not many tables were in, we found it difficult to find someone for extra bread, condiments etc. Overall it's very authentically Italian and I'd recommend it for an infomal meal

I went here with 2 friends based on the reviews here. We were all disappointed, the food is very average and the prices are not. The starters were ok but it went downhill from there, the mains were quite bland and portions weren't overly big. It was enough to fill us but I think if I were there with a male he would be looking for a slightly more generous portion. It was quiet too when we were there so we didn't have too much of an atmosphere. All in all it wasn't a dreadful experience but I did think we would have been better off with pub grub rather than paying the price for a very average meal. We won't be rushing back.

I decided to go to Il Baccaro last night for a relaxing meal to catch up with a friend. The white wine list was quite limited but the house wine is good. The food was fairly mediocre. However, what really ruined the night was "the entertainment" - a guy with a guitar and a girl singling (very badly) Edith Piaf numbers - unfortunatley it started after we had ordered or we would not have stayed. After our starter we asked to move to the side room as it was impossible to speak to each other and the staff kindly accommodated us. However 10 minutes later the singers arrived into the side room. We quickly ate our main meal and when the girl started her "air guitar" moves we asked for the bill and made a quick exit. A table of drunken guys seemed to be enjoying the show but we were certainly unimpressed. I thought Meeting House Square and Il Baccaro had escaped the tackiness of Temple Bar but obviously not.

After reading the great reviews here I went there for dinner last week. I was very disappointed with the food, I had chicken and it was only barely warm and bland. My dining partner was also disappointed with the lack of flavour in their dish. Cannot fault the service and the atmosphere though but was quite embarrassed as I had suggested the place.

Really enjoyed my meal here...simple, genuine Italian food at good prices. I had a lovely caprese salad to start, a very generous portion and ravioli to follow...also good, my only complaint is that it was a little on the cool side. Tasted the mushroom risotto - gorgeous! There were 3 of us, all having starters, mains, coffees and some amaretti biscuits, a bottle of wine, 1 amaretto...all for just over 100 euro. The waiters were great and recommended a lovely wine. I definitely recommend it and will return soon

Ate here on Saturday with three friends and all diners were very happy with their meals. I would definitely recommend the bresaola to start - just delicious and I followed that with a very tasty rigatoni dish. The dessert (panna cotta) was a bit disappointing but other than that a great meal - although might I suggest being a bit more generous with the main meal portions? Will definitely be going back. Very reasonable.

Bank Holiday Visit: asked whether booked (not) but seats for 2 obtained OK but still busy (good sign). Authentic atmosphere. Great house litre wine (Value). Nice authentic starters, main fantastic, dessert excellent. Not rushed to finish (nice romantic). No hesitation to recommend for "Authentic Italian experience". One note - easily missed! Once small boarding and a stair down to (looks like) nowhere. Turn Left and go in!

Went here last night for a birthday dinner and although the staff were very nice and helpful, the food was extremely disappointing. I had the flat mushroom starter and the prawn risotto for my main. Both were awful. I only give it 1 star for food because the tiramisu was ok and the others in the party (not having the risotto) had ok food. I would definitely not recommend this to others.

This is the most authentic Italian I've ever been to, you'd just have to love it. The dishes are beyond a doubt put together by Italians. The mushroom risotto is the best and the garlic bread is great. I recommend tiramisu to finish! The atmosphere is cosy and would be great for a romantic meal - we went there for valentines day and it was perfect.

I have been here quite a few times and never left disappointed. The menu is constantly changing so you won't always be able to get what you enjoyed last time, but there's always something for everyone. I recently learned that the wonderful chef Paolo has returned after 6 months abroad so I'll be rushing back! Sometimes its difficult to grab the attention of the waiters but once you do they're fairly friendly and helpful. Also, good, cheap jugs of wine.

I recently went here and was very very disappointed. Going out with an Italian for over 6 years and he & his friends never want to go, so he reluctantly came with me. I am a vegetarian so sometimes hard to find decent food, but with Italian menus I'm usually very lucky. Anyway I ordered olives for start just to pick at they tasted like cheap olives! My main dish was Piatto Vegetariano - it was desperate. The aubergine was raw! My boyfriend & friend had Salsicce Fagioli they loved the Salsicce but not the beans, beans were under cooked, which ain't good for the tummy.... When our bill came it was €127 including one bottle of wine! We calculated our bill to be about €97 and asked the waiter to check it. They came back to us with another bill which then read €109! Obviously we weren't impressed at all. We just paid and said we will never go back! I think honestly it is a tourist trap because it is in Temple Bar and I'm sure lots of people do not double check their bills.

Another Italian, It seems that I only review Italians; I really have to branch out! But if i was to choose an italian to eat in, this would be the one...very nice food cooked and presented in an authentic manner...nice salad dressing (which is a difficult thing to do) and great starters and main courses...thoroughly enjoyed by both parties at the dinner table and good value for money too..Recommended

I have been to this restaurant many many times and whereas it is Italian there is no pasta and pizza place. All the meals are authentic Italian ranging in Piedmontese to Sicilian dishes, which are not the norm. Great place for romantic dinner or with a group to drink wine. If you your Italians to be pizza and pasta only you might not like this place.

Il Baccaro is a special place in Dublin. The staff are friendly and helpful the food, although basic, is done well and with an authentic taste of Italy. The environment is classic. It feels like it has been a part of the square forever; quite a unique location there in Diceman's corner. I really appreciate the organic wines they feature, especially the house red.

I have been going to this place for years, I love the food here especially the mussels with spaghetti. I had not eaten here in six months. When I went with my boyfriend and his parents for dinner on Saturday night we were surprised that they did not serve any bottles of beer. My boyfriend’s mother does not drink wine, and they not even have an Italian brand. This is the only drawback that we found, people who do not drink wine should have a choice, it is after all an Osteria. Food and coffees here is always good though and the service is excellent and the staff are very friendly.

Came here for the occasion of my parents meeting my boyfriend for the first time. They had just travelled from Hong Kong and were also their first time in Dublin so the setting already was very tense. But this was the perfect place (suggested by my boyfriend) so cosy and warm with exceptionally friendly staff. We shared a selection of 3 delicious starters and my fish gambo was gorgeous. Loved the authentic handwritten menu, and the experience was matched with our wonderful trip to Firenze last year. Parents had a great time.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. Not even the small mix up with our reservation could take away from the fact that this is a fantastic restaurant. Served real Italian food by Italian waiters and waitresses is had to come by in Dublin. The feeling that you're in Italy is confirmed when everyone around you is speaking Italian. Bruschetta was fantastic, followed the fillet of Irish beef and tiramisu for dessert. The only downside to the whole thing was walking out the door and realising you're back in Dublin again. Well worth every penny.

Was there with 11 other people 2 weeks ago and I have to say that I was not all that impressed - I enjoyed the food I had ordered, however, when we arrived for a 9 o’clock sitting we were informed that they had run out of white wine from the barrel - it was a Sat nite. The place is very atmospheric but very cramped, also the service was a little haphazard - don’t think I will go back.

Top quality Italian in the heart of temple bar. The prices wont cripple your wallet and the portions are quite generous. The staff are friendly and helpful. The setting is great for a date or romantic evening with the curved roof and candles. In the summer its good to get one of the outside tables.

Second best Italian restaurant in Dublin. The atmosphere is superb set in a cellar - you could be in Firenze, lovely perfume of fragrant herbs and cooking when you come in the door. Wonderful rich Italian food, good salami, good cheeses, authentic Tuscan menu but the grappa was only average. If they offered a good moscato grappa, it would have completed a fine meal. They have a range of good Italian wine though. The service could be a bit better, but the food is excellent.

Really good food, Real Italian experience here. You almost get a surprise as you leave because you forget you are in Dublin and expect to emerge into a noisy Italian square.

I rate today an experience of a few years ago, so things may have changed. However, I used to be a regular there when I had an office in Temple Bar, and I could never fault this place: excellent service, superb food, sympathetic bills ... what else do you want?
